Most of the matches tonight felt like the greatest hits. The US shows are definitely designed to be a showcase which is perfectly fine, especially considering most matches deliver tonight. Loved Okada vs Tanahashi, my MOTN.

[1984-02-23-AJPW] Nick Bockwinkel vs Jumbo Tsuruta
Makai Club #1 replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in February 1984
Great match on all facets aside from Jumbo's selling which was pretty much non-existent once he was out of Bock's holds. Other than that, I loved the match. Bockwinkle trying to get a quick win with the cross body early on, him trying to ground Jumbo with his superior at skills, knowing when his bread and better lies and knowing where Jumbo is best. The struggle for the holds is great, at least. Then Jumbo works on the back once he learns how to escape Bock's holds and goes to town on it with stomps and brutal clubs. The finish came out of nowhere for me tbh but that's not to say that I didn't like that either. The crowd were stunned and I don't think they expected Jumbo to actually win. . Great match. ****- 8 replies

I think that the match suffered from missing its peak and falling victim to the usual annoying tropes that most LMS matches have in the end. The AA through the table got the biggest pop of the match and should've ended the match but it didn't. Batista got up from that which annoyed me a ton. The finish that the match had was good though, so it wasn't a total let down. I dug the rest of the match as it had some great Cena selling, not too much damage that it'll cause them to not sell them properly, great work on the leg by Batista too. Great use of the STF by Cena to try and causing Batista to pass out. There was tons of goodness in this, stuff that far outweighs the bad. Great match. ****

[2010-04-25-WWE-Extreme Rules] CM Punk vs Rey Misterio (Hair Match)
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in April 2010
This was a pretty great match, in my opinion. Punk and Rey worked so well together, the synergy was off the charts. Punk did some superb work on Rey’s back, although it could've sold better. Rey flying around, sneaking offence in was great to watch. Great match. **** -
[2010-03-28-WWE-Wrestlemania XXVI] Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in March 2010
I thought this was a great match. HBK constantly going after the leg, brutally at times. Taker selling the leg greatly as well. HBK not going down after big move after big moves just clawing to stay alive. Nice start and end to the match with the throat slash by Michales. Just below the first match, in my opinion. ****1/4 -
[2019-06-23-OTT-WrestleRama 3] WALTER vs David Starr
Makai Club #1 replied to SmartMark15's topic in June 2019
The work on the leg was great and the selling was upto par. And they made great use of the false Starr win. I thought Starr went a bit over the top after the match by shouting at the ref. Just too corny for me although I get why they did it. I'm not sure how I'd compare it to their other matches but I did think it was far better than their earlier 16 Caret Gold match. ***3/4 -
[2019-06-26-WWE-NXT TV] Shayna Baszler vs Io Shirai (Cage)
Makai Club #1 replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in June 2019
I really, really dug the finish to the match. It wasn't a bullshit "kick or punch your opponent into the door allowing them to win, although it was in that mold. Baszler had the Kirifuda Clutch and the only think Io could do is use the cage to get out of it leading to Baszler falling out the ring. It wasn't done as contrived as it usually it. The match was pretty violent early on, teasing being rammed into the cage and building to escapes pretty well. I couldn't care less about the interference spots, not really needed at the extent it was used. Great match. ***3/4 -
I imagine the drama and emotion of the crowd will carry it. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch Blue Demon Jr matches but I'm definitely pumped for it so I say they built the feud well.

[2000-09-02-AJPW-Summer Action Series II] Masa Chono vs Masa Fuchi
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in September 2000
Maybe it's just me but this gave me Attitude Era vibes. Even though it's not a brawl, it's very shenanigans based and built upon the emotion and charisma of Chono. Chono's stalling at the start was great. I loved him trying to piss Fuchi off, with maybe an idea of wanting him to bait Fuchi into coming into the crowd, Chono's game but Fuchi staying calm until the second Chono touches the ropes. The only thing I would add from that spot is Kawada coming from the back and causing Chono not to go back into the crowd again but I suppose that's not really All Japan's thing. There wasn't much to this in terms of depth but that's okay, it was still enthralling to watch. Sometimes you don't need to do a bunch of moves. The biggest/most dramatic parts of the match was Fuchi locking on a sleeper/rare naked choke variation. The atmosphere was great with the crowd fully behind Fuchi and more or less against Chono, although they didn't boo him until he started to cheat. Great match. ****- 9 replies

Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff named to Executive Positions in WWE
Makai Club #1 replied to Stiva's topic in WWE
Well that's certainly something big. Not sure how much change it'll bring to the shows given Vince McMahon will still be in charge of everything. I guess we can appreciate the sentiment. Now just because they were a success in the past, doesn't mean that they will be be a success now. Bischoff in TNA proved that. It'll be an interesting few weeks for sure -
Electrifying match. One of the better US multi-man tags I've ever seen. Everyone was on point, itching to win Fry's Match of the Night bonus, clearly. Everything played their role to perfection and them-some. The Dangerous Alliance in that first part of the match were just great. The bumping from all, the stooging , the constant struggle to gain control only for it to be turned back on them. I particularly enjoyed the sequence from Rude taking Sting into the corner and he fights his way out of it, powerslams Eaton and Larry on after the other and Arn feigns going in. Great stretch of wrestling. Dustin's FIP section of the match was so good - his selling, like always, was really good, slipping and flopping around, needing the ropes to get back up. Ricky and his karate offence was both hilarious and thrilling to watch. And the DA being totally afraid of it puts it over so much. Poor Eaton, who got his ass kicked for most of it but if you want a heel to get his ass kicked, Beautiful Bobby is the one to do it. Rude goading Sting in when the rest of the DA didn't want Sting in was great. It put over the pure arrogance of Rude, the dangerous of Sting and made for a hell of a moment when Sting kicked the hell out of Rude! Arn was the MVP of this whole thing. Turning from a stooge to a cold killer with ease. Just watch Arn. Great match. ****1/2

[1996-02-18-WWF-In Your House VI] Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Call me nit-picky but the commentary is very annoying. Vince’s love for Michals on commentary makes me sick. Not even JR praises Austin to the extent that Vince does. It was very distracting. Thankfully, Lawler is on game. My favourite part of the match was Jim Cornette inches away of kicking Michaels before the ref sees him and he stops just in time. The timing of it was great, as way Cornette’s reaction. A few things I liked about the match: I dug Michaels’ sell of the enziguri, a call back to the angle. And Owen’s work on top is pretty solid though. Nothing outstanding but he gets heat on Michaels and builds to the eventual comeback well. There were a few spots that were poorly set up like the initial moonsault to Owen on the outside with Owen seeing Michaels whilst taking his time walking into the spot. The match really doesn’t have a ton of animosity that the feud and angle was built upon. Michaels says he wants revenge but it more that happy to dance and play with Owen instead of actually getting revenge. Just poor from him. From someone who is acclaimed for “storytelling” basic things like this seem lost on him in this match. In saying that, Michaels had a fun comeback to end the match. ***1/2- 17 replies

[1996-02-18-WWF-In Your House VI] Bret Hart vs Diesel (Cage)
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
I wasn’t digging this at all. Totally low energy from start to finish. The match was worked fine, as most Hart matches are but this wasn’t very fun or engaging to watch. It wasn’t exactly slow but it felt very off. Not a good match. The finish was a good way to further Diesel vs Taker. **1/4 -
WWE TV 24/06 - 30/06 Is Ricochet a better version of Ospreay
Makai Club #1 replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Barring Ambrose not being in WWE, this sounds very much like WWE 2015. It's scary similar. I thought it was established already that Seth is a BTEC Triple H without having the best parts of Triple H. -
[1994-02-20-WCW-Superbrawl IV] Arn Anderson vs Steven Regal
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
Most people like to say certain matches are 70's style type matches with zero cause to say so but this was totally that. The slow, deliberate pace they set out, the structure of the match, the style they wrestled, the way they transitioned from move to move (kinda like ZSJ tries to do now but they do it much, much better). The match itself was excellent. I think the lack of heat from the crowd was a problem, not a big one but it was very jarring to watch a match that's virtually done in near silence. Arn's work on the leg and arm was very good, as was Regal's work on the neck and arm of Arn. Tons of fight and struggle to earn every hold they got. The stiff shots by Regal met with the explosive, high impact moves by Arn. I dug the finish too. Great, underrated match. ****1/4- 29 replies

This was a good rumble, for the first half of the match. There was tons of great stuff. Everything involving Lawler, Razor chasing the 1-2-3 Kid. Vader potatoing everyone and going face to face with Gorilla Monsoon. All that ruled, then the match fell into a noticeable lull after that and never got good again until the finish which was great. Michaels having to super kick Diesel before he could realize what’s happening was a good finish. It just needed a better second half. ***3/4

[1996-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Goldust vs Razor Ramon
Makai Club #1 replied to Loss's topic in January 1996
It's pretty wild that when WWE signed the son of Dusty Rhodes, they gave him the Goldust gimmick. Just the idea of giving a famous wrestler's son a gimmick like that, it's odd. It'd be like giving Randy Orton the gimmick when he first joined. Now I love the Goldust gimmick. It got hate at the time due to connotations, sadly, but I dug the ambiguity of the gimmick, when it stayed that way, at least. The match ruled, too. Some excellent character work by Goldust that was blended into the match very well. Razor showed tremendous fire and aggression in his offence and held his own with Goldust technically. Goldust sold and bumped well. Great performances all round. The finish didn’t make Goldust look all that great as he needed interference to win. It did do a great job of allowing Razor to move on for the meanwhile. ***3/4 -

Makai Club #1 posted a topic in June 2019
Tokyo Princess Cup – Round 2 Very good little match build around Yuka working over Miu's arm in pretty Yuka fashion, unique techniques and all. Miu's selling is fine for the most part but she is a great underdog and puts up a hell of a struggle. ***1/2- 1 reply

[2019-05-19-WWE-Money in the Bank] Seth Rollins vs A.J. Styles
Makai Club #1 replied to paul sosnowski's topic in May 2019
The early part of the match was fine, the obligatory standoffish stuff. But once they began actually trying to win, it got better. I loved Seth actually throwing himself into his topes rather than the usual push suicide dives that he does, which usually look awful. Seth doing the Kawada kicks surprised me. They didn't look good but I appreciate the effort took to try something different, at least. Then the match turned into the usual Seth match match which doesn't do anything for me but AJ's great selling keeps me into it. The counter into the Styles clash was slick like butter, but of course, it doesn't finish the match. But one thing that stands out is both guys great chemistry together. Fully expect more matches from this pair. And I kinda like that idea. Good match but it really doesn't scream out GREAT to me. ***1/4 -
[2019-06-09-NJPW-Dominion] Dragon Lee vs Will Ospreay
Makai Club #1 replied to paul sosnowski's topic in June 2019
The match brought out some of the worst aspects of both guys game. The no selling/dramatically stopping spots can only be done so much in a match but they had some great sequences. Dragon Lee's tope was crazy, the speed and velocity behind it was incredible. Fun finish too. ***1/2 -
[2019-06-09-NJPW-Dominion] Kota Ibushi vs Tetsuya Naito
Makai Club #1 replied to paul sosnowski's topic in June 2019
A great start to the match. Naito going all heel on the Osaka crowd was excellent. Then the fans cheered him and that was the end of that. It's clear that they didn't really get what was good about their last few matches and decided to keep the neck bumps and none of the work in between them. Lacked substance, in my opinion. I desperately tried to get into it but nope, was either bored out of my mind or wincing. Not a good match. **
