Garvin & Hito beating the tar out of each other sounds like a solid opener. Pillman adds a win over Chavo Classic to his already impressive resume. TDT & The Sheepherders should probably meet in a stipulation match soon. Eddie once again impresses in defeat. Bubba grounds Steamboat to retain the TV Title. The Odd Couple take the MXE to the limit. A rematch is definitely in order. I think we can say that Cannonball passed his test with flying colors.

Doomsday Missle Dropkick! Now that's a Dynamic finisher. Spivey & Bad News pick up some quality wins. A fine debut for Steiner. Garvin vs Adams will definitely get eyes on WCPW. Race overcomes a 2-1 handicap to cement his place as a top challenger to Idol. The Nasty Boys win a brief but competitive tournament to become the inaugural WCPW tag team champions! They've already got some tough challengers lined up. Idol retains against Taylor, but with Bad News waiting in Rockford & Race clearly on the hunt, he can't afford to rest on his laurels.

Cactus may have just saved himself a spot in the army. Steel may have gotten a win tonight but matters still aren't settled with Orton. I really don't think Dingo would fit in with Backlund's boys. Henning scores one for the Brigade but Miller & Pringle aren't gonna take this sitting down. Barr & Eddie seem drawn to each other, to their mutual detriment. The show closes with a mass brawl & the announcement of a no dq six man in Portland! This is gonna get nuts.

NWA Live @ Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville FL 2/2/87 Good & Plenty (Ray Candy & Sweet Brown Sugar) defeat Fire & Flame with the "Tootsie Roll" on Flame. "Wild" Bill Irwin & Big Daddy Ritter fought to a double DQ. Of note is that Ritter was accompanied by the same man who accompanied Whatley & Conway on Power Hour who was introduced as Slick. NWA World Television Title "British Magician" Steve Wright defeats "Prince of Australia" George Barnes with the "Octopus Hold" NWA World Tag Team Titles The Minnesota Wrecking Crew(c) (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon defeat The Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong & Tracy Smothers) with a double Gordbuster on Smothers. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan & The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering defeat The Red Tide (Vladimir Petrov & The Koloffs) with the "Doomsday Device" on Ivan. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes defeats "Nature Boy" Ric Flair w/JJ Dillon by pulling Flair into a inside cradle as he was going for the Figure Four. There seemseemed to be some miscommunication between Flair & Dillon before the finish. Dillon tried to pass his shoe to Flair but Flair didn't seem to be expecting it & allowed the referee to return it to Dillon.

NWA Live @ The Omni in Atlanta GA 2/1/87 "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada wins a battle royal last eliminating Big Daddy Ritter. Yamada will now challenge for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Tom "Megaman" McGee defeats "Dandy" Don Bass with a slingshot legdrop. The debuting "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms Linda defeats "Young Pistol" Steve Armstrong with a Sleeper Hold following a distraction by Ms Linda. NWA World Television Title "British Magician" Steve Wright(c) defeats "Superstar" Bill Dundee by rolling through "Bombs Away" & turning it into a cover. Elimination Match The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jagers & Dutch Mantel) vs The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart) Order of elimination Ron Bass eliminates Bobby Jagers with the "Texas Gordbuster" Dutch Mantel eliminates Ron Bass with the "Tennessee Chainsaw" Dutch Mantel & Black Bart fight to a double c.o. The match is ruled a draw. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeat The Red Tide (Ivan Koloff & Vladimir Petrov) by dq when Petrov snaps & hits Duggan with the "Russian chain" NWA United States Tag Team Titles The Renegade Warriors(c) defeat Radiance (Doug Somers & Jimmy Del Ray) by sending Del Ray to the ropes & flooring him with a double knife edge chop. NWA World Heavyweight Title Tully Blanchard(c) w/JJ Dillon defeats "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada when Dillon crotches Yamada on the top rope as he's going for the "Shooting Star Press" leaving him in position for the slingshot suplex.

NWA Live @ Civic Center in Charleston WV 1/31/87 The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jagers & Dutch Mantel) defeat 2 local talents with a running elbowdrop from Jagers. "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi defeats "Gorgeous" Gary Royal with a jumping headbutt. The Red Tide (Ivan Koloff & Vladimir Petrov) defeat The War Party (Billy Two Eagles & Joe Lightfoot) when Ivan pinned Lightfoot with the "Russian Sickle" NWA World Television Title "British Magician" Steve Wright(c) defeats Baron Von Raschke with the "Octopus Hold" NWA World Tag Team Titles The Minnesota Wrecking Crew(c) (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon defeat The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering by dq. During a pier-six brawl, referee Theodore Long is attempting to escort Ole & Animal out of the ring. JJ takes the chance to pass Arn a chair, he goes to hit Hawk with it but pauses. Then with a devious grin on his face, he smacks the chair against the matt. Before Long can turn to expect the noise, Arn quickly tosses the chair to Hawk before falling backwards to the matt. On instinct Hawk catches the chair just as Long turns around & calls for the bell despite Hawk, Ellering & many fans trying to explain what happened. The Horsemen were smiling the entire time Ole & JJ "helped" Arn to the back.

McIntyre's failure to capture the world title nearly costs her the TV Title. She better shake this funk soon. Singh & Bennett prove they don't need a stable to be Monsters! The Trios titles are decided in a bloody cage match on free TV! A pair of brass knuckles & a triple powerbomb make for a successful defense.

From the Winthrop Coluseam in Rock Hill SC it's... NWA POWER HOUR! Previously Recorded/Airing on 1/28/87 Commentary:Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone Ring Announcer:David Crockett (The NWA opening video slams on screen with quick clips of the top stars set to "Rock Warrior" by The Rods. We close on a shot of NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tully Blanchard before cutting to Caudle & Schiavone at ringside) BC:Wrestling fans welcome to another episode of NWA Power Hour, professional wrestling's most exciting hour. I'm Bob Caudle alongside Tony Schiavone. We've got a incredible hour of wrestling for you tonight with the long awaited debut of one of professional wrestling's most dangerous men, I'm talking about the Bad Man from Borger, Texas Stan "The Lariat" Hansen. TS:We've been seeing those videos for weeks and finally, we can see what Stan Hansen can do in person. Folks if you've never seen him in action, I promise you it's not something you're going to forget. Speaking of things not easily forgotten, I'm sure our great fans in Norfolk won't soon forget the night they saw "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes return to the NWA (HUGE POP) well fans i can report that Dusty Rhodes is here & will be making his first appearance on NWA Power Hour later this broadcast. (Somehow louder pop) BC:Stan Hansen & Dusty Rhodes in the same broadcast? Only on the Power Hour! Now let's send it to the ring for our opening contest & the debut of a entertaining new Tag Team. Match #1 The debuting Good & Plenty (Ray Candy & Sweet Brown Sugar) defeat Cruel Connection (1&2) when Sugar hit a Candy assisted Senton from the top rope on CC#2 that a clearly amused Schiavone informed fans was called the "Tootsie Roll" Commercial-Bob Caudle runs down the NWA house shows for the coming week. (We return to footage from the recent house show in Richmond VA. We see Paul Jones wrapping his hands around Ms Elizabeth's throat leading to the chaotic finish to the U.S title match. Caudle & Schiavone state that the NWA has a zero tolerance policy against man on woman violence. As such Mr Jones has been stripped of his managerial license meaning he no longer has any right to appear at NWA events. They also inform the audience that the NWA Championship Commetie is working to schedule a rematch between Randy Savage & Matt Borne in order to settle their differences) Match #2 "Maniac" Matt Borne defeats George South with the "Stump Puller" (Post match an incensed Borne grabs the mic & declares that the NWA has made a huge mistake stripping Jones' license because Jones was the only one holding him back! He declares all future injuries are on their heads. Then to illustrate his point, he grabs South & hits a completely unnecessary piledriver) Match #3 "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi defeats Mitch Snow with a jumping headbutt. Commercial break-Promo for "Christmas Chaos" now available on NWA Home Video. Match #4 Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway Jr) defeat The Interns (1&2) with a double DDT on Intern #1. Whatley & Conway were accompanied by a man never before seen in this area. Whomever he is, he quickly got on the nerves of many fans due to a combination of his association with Whatley & Conway & generally giving off the vibe of a used car salesman. BC:Wrestling fans we promised it & here it is, please welcome back to the NWA, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes! (Rhodes struts into the interview area while the crowd loses its collective mind) BC:Dusty Rhodes it's great to see you back in the NWA. What brings you back to these parts? DR:Well let me tell ya, Bob Caudle. You & everybody knows that 1986 didn't end on a high note for Dusty Rhodes the American Dream. First my good personal friend Magnum T.A suffers a terrible automobile accident, & let me say on his behalf, he is so thankful to anyone that sent in a letter, a thought or a prayer. He told me to tell y'all that the love you sent him helped him through what had been the toughest time of his life baybay. (Rhodes pauses while the crowd erupts in a "Magnum" chant) then while I was away helping my friend & his family in their time of need, the N dubya A, the most historic, most prestig-e-us governing body in the histery of professional rasslin seems to disappear in a puff a smoke. And to top off, the icing on the cake if you will, Continental Championship rasslin goes up in smoke just as we it was bout to launch a whole new era for itself. When ya get that much coming at ya at a same time, sometimes the best thing you can do is take a step back, sometimes ya gotta go, in the words of one of my favorite songs "where everybody knows your name & they're always glad ya came" and for Dusty Rhodes the American Dream 2 time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, there ain't no place i feel more at home than in front of an N dubya A audience daddy! And ya know somethin'? Of all that I've done in that ring, there's nothin' I'm as proud of as my two reigns as the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. But as the Dream thought about it i realized somethin' The only thing that sounds better than Dusty Rhodes, The American Dream, 2 time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion is Dusty Rhodes, The American Dream, 3 time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion! So Tully Blanchard! Listen up & listen ta me good brutha! I don't know where, I don't know when but I promise ya, you & I are gonna meet in that ring & when that day comes, I WILL become NWA World Heavyweight Champion for the 3rd time BABAY! (Rhodes leaves to thunderous applause) Commercial-Promo for "St Valentines Day Massacre" (Before the main event, Caudle & Schiavone officially announce the return of "Worldwide" the Sunday after "St Valentines Day Massacre" & excitedly announce the show will be hosted by none other than Gordon Solie!) Main event Stan "The Lariat" Hansen defeats Earthquake Ferris after damn near decapitating the big man with his world famous Lariat.

Yatsu with a warm-up win the opener. RPMs & Southern pull off a nice trick but it's gonna take more than that to beat Cabin Fever come Big Brawl. Kirby inadvertently costs Golden against Mulligan. Team Gagne decide to conserve their energy. Kirby rebounds from his earlier goof to help Dream Machine & Brown score a tag win. Tsuruta & Fujinami fend off the Teamsters on their road to Big Brawl. Armstrong & Fuller goes to a no contest? Who could have seen this coming?
-
If this keeps up, Missy Hyatt could be UWF's most over face! Ladd makes a fair point but I doubt Watts is in any hurry to oblige him. The Freebirds/RnR feud is off to a hot start. Roberts is halfway to his goal & halfway through the tag Champs. Sullivan shows Vader what's expected of him... MURDER! A 4 corner elimination match for the TV Title & 5k! Bring it on. Steve Cox is certainly jumping into the deep end. Lawler clearly feels that only HE can beat Reed for the UWF Title.
-
We get the official announcement of Aloha Spectacular 87 and a pair of big time main events.
-
The younger Steamboat impresses with a win in the opener. Cannonball Crushes Blackman! Eddie's aggression costs him & Hector. The Knights Templer & The British Invasion break even. Though points to Black Tiger for beating the Light Heavyweight Champion again. The Odd Couple prove they have the MXE's number and certainly have a title match coming now.
-
Tournament to battle royal is such a fun concept. McIntyre gets her long awaited chance to become a double champion. Richter looks to top her by become a triple champ. Simmes & Morgan's meteoric rise to the top of the Tag ranks is complete. Moretti entered the battle royal with nothing to lose but left with the richest prize in women's wrestling.
-
Lightning Strike is on a roll but Perez & Zybyszko don't seem impressed. Even Tommy Rich should know you don't talk shit about the Mad Dog without having to answer for it. Ustinov's rehabilitation is proceeding nicely. Snuka is determined but I'm not sure anyone can beat Colon in a Caribbean Death Match. The Teamsters are becoming a true unit. The teams are complete! Slater & Rotunda are the perfect men to round off their respective teams. As if the Olympians & the Bombers weren't heated enough, throw in Gama & Putski and we've got a real explosion. A no dq 3-2 handicap match is on for Big Brawl. This is gonna be good. Royal may have bitten off more than he can handle with Scorpio. What a way to close the show with the arrival of the Bullet! Looks like another amazing Spaldoni supercard.
-
Backlund teaches Douglas a valuable lesson. Henning continues his roll with a win over Mando. Adams fights hard but there's no getting up from the Bull Hammer. Red vs Sabu sounds like my kind of crazy. OMG gets another win over Burke but the big story is the return of Ronnie Garvin. The PCW Heavyweight Champion brings victory home for the Brigade in the official main event. Lights Out matches were made for violent psychos like The Sheepherders.
-
NWA places Baron Von Raschke, Earthquake Ferris, Jonathan Boyd & George Barnes on the block. Ideally Boyd & Barnes would be traded for a tag team though this isn't a deal breaker.
-
Cactus Jack seems to have found a home in PCW. Finley is being a surprisingly good sport recently. Nice touch having Red be tempted to use the heart punch. DW has found a nice rhythm. Show up...smash some goober...reject the advances of some manager....start over next week. Pringle may not have made headway with DW but Payne & Humongous show that the Crazy Gang already has plenty of firepower. Well I was right about Rose being involved with Grizzly going after Oliver but the exact reason surprised me. Let's see what the big man's try out intales. "Cool" Curt makes a successful return to the northwest. Tenta with a statement making singles win over one half of PCW's most dominant team.
-
Really loving these retro posters you make. As you may have guessed from reading my works, I'm something of a fan of one night tournaments, so I'm looking forward to seeing who emerges as tag champs.
-
McIntyre's stellar run as tv champ continues. Moretti has a successful return to the ring & a brawl with the World champion in the same night. McIntyre may be right to worry about getting pushed down the line. I can just imagine the pop the Simmes hot-tag got.

NWA Live @ Richmond Coluseam in Richmond VA 1/24/87 "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada defeats "Prince of Australia" George Barnes w/JR Foley with the "Shooting Star Press" NWA World Tag Team Champion Arn Anderson w/JJ Dillon defeats El Santo Negro after Dillon pushed Santo off the top rope into a Spinebuster. NWA World Television Title "British Magician" Steve Wright(c) defeats "The Russian Assassin" Vladimir Petrov by dq when Ivan Koloff stormed the ring and attacked Wright as he had Petrov in the "Octopus Hold" Elimination Match The Posse (Bill Irwin, Bobby Jagers & Dutch Mantel) vs Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley, Tiger Conway Jr & Big Daddy Ritter) order of elimination Bobby Jagers eliminated Tiger Conway Jr with a running elbowdrop. Shaska Whatley eliminated Bobby Jagers with a trunks assisted schoolboy. BIf Daddy Ritter eliminated Bill Irwin with a powerslam. Dutch Mantel eliminated Shaska Whatley with the "Tennessee Chainsaw" Big Daddy Ritter eliminated Dutch Mantel with a powerslam following a distraction from Whatley to be the sole survivor. The Koloffs (Ivan & Nikita) defeat The S&S Express (Joe Savoldi & Shaun Simpson) when Nikita pinned Simpson with the "Russian Sickle" "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeats "Lord" Jonathan Boyd w/JR Foley with a three point stance clothesline. NWA United States Tag Team Titles The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood)(c) defeat The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart) w/"Number One" Paul Jones by dq when Jones was caught tripping Mark. NWA United States Title "Macho Man" Randy Savage w/Ms Elizabeth vs "Maniac" Matt Borne w/"Number One" Paul Jones ended in a double c.o. Chaotic finish saw Jones get on the apron to dustract Savage. When Elizabeth tried to pull him down he instead pulled her up the stairs by her throat! Savage bolted across the ring and nailed Jones with a right hand sending the manager to the floor, then after checking on his valet, he went to the floor to pursue Jones. Borne followed to save his manager & they ended up brawling up the aisle.

NWA Live @ Norfolk Scope in Norfolk VA 1/23/87 Tom "Megaman" McGee defeats Scorpion with a slingshot legdrop. 'The Natural" Mark Fleming defeats "Wild" Bill Irwin when Irwin passed out to the rear naked choke. "Dandy" Don Bass defeats Earthquake Ferris after loading something into his elbowpad & hitting Ferris with it. Tracy Smothers defeats "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala w/JR Foley & Friday by c.o when Kamala tried to splash Smothers against the guardrail but Smothers ducked out of the way & beat the count. The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart) w/"Number One" Paul Jones vs The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jagers & Dutch Mantel) ended in a double DQ. "The Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff defeats Chris Youngblood with the "Russian Sickle" (The main event was promoted as the Road Warriors & a partner of their choosing vs the Horsemen trio of Tully Blanchard & the Andersons. Most of the competitors are in the ring waiting for the RW's partner. As the wait drags on the Horsemen begin taunting the Warriors for not being able to find anyone. Just as Tommy Young is about to make a decision, unfamiliar music blares over the pa system and everyone turns to the entrance way. A variety of reactions follow...the crowd ERUPTS in applause, Ellering looks like the cat that ate the canary, Dillon, Blanchard & Arn are in shock, but the most powerful reaction is from Ole...face contorted in RAGE...turning a almost startling shade of red... as DUSTY RHODES makes his way into the ring. He's no sooner through the ropes before a livid Ole dashes across the ring and intercepts him. This rouses the others to action & the opening bell is nearly drown out as the crowd voices their excitement at the pier-six brawl brawl that breaks out) The debuting "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes & The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering defeat The Four Horsemen (Tully Blanchard & the Andersons) when Rhodes hits a "Bionic Elbow"/running elbowdrop combo on Arn.

NWA Live @ Dorton Arena in Raleigh NC 1/22/87 Brickhouse Brown defeats Punisher with a swinging neckbreaker. The debuting "Adorable" Adrian Adonis defeats Shaun Simpson with "Goodnight Irene" "Superstar" Bill Dundee w/JR Foley defeats "Jumping" Joe Savoldi with "Bombs Away" NWA World Television Title "British Magician" Steve Wright defeats Baron Von Raschke w/"Number One" Paul Jones by dq when the Baron refused to break the Claw despite Wright being in the ropes. NWA World Tag Team Titles The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson)(c) w/JJ Dillon defeat The War Party (Billy Two Eagles & Joe Lightfoot) with a double Gordbuster on Two Eagles. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair w/JJ Dillon defeats "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada with the Figure Four. Yamada offered a handshake after the bell that Dillon scoffed at but Flair accepted.

NWA announcannounces the return of Worldwide! When the then Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling returned from a six month hiatus in September of last year, it was announced that the promotion would be discontinuing its second TV show "Worldwide". Now after a corporate restructure & a decision to take the NWA brand as the companies own, the decision has been made to resurrect the discontinued program. Notably "Worldwide" will not be broadcast over the WTBS superstation but, like UWF's "Power Pro" it will be broadcast on syndication throughout the country. Also in an attempt to create a separate atmosphere from the NWA'S main show "Power Hour", each episode of"Worldwide" will be taped from the Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia. This is meant to make the show more cost effective & provide it with a more intimate feel. Furthermore, while each episode of "Power Hour" is taped individually, "Worldwide" will have episodes taped back-to-back.The first episode of "NWA Worldwide" air on Sunday February 19th. Is the NWA looking for a new home? It's no secret that WTBS head honcho Ted Turner is a huge wrestling fan. Over the past few years his superstation has hosted the TV content of four separate territories. Mid-South/UWF, Continental Championship Wrestling, the short lived Western States Wrestling & Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling/NWA. However WTBS, days as the go-to superstation for professional wrestling may be numbered. Ever since the sudden & very public collapse as a governing body late last year, as well as the sudden shutdown of CCW as it was on the verge of a rebrand, there have been reports of ever increasing friction between UWF president "Cowboy" Bill Watts and his successor as President of the NWA Jim Crockett Jr. For his part, Mr Turner is reportedly ordering his employees to treat the two companies as equally as possible, seemingly determined to keep both on his channel. Nevertheless, unsubstantiated rumors abound that the Crockett's have sent out feelers to rival superstations to see if any would be interested to get in on the pro wrestling craze. CBS, WGN, HBO & the USA network have all been brought up as possible destinations but so far NWA officials have refused to even address the rumors. We'll keep an eye on the situation in case anything develops.

Gagne & Graham show promise as a team. I would've loved to see Sawyer powerslam Warlord. Lighting Strike building the momentum ahead of their big opportunity. Vin Man & The Rocket screw over Powerhouse. El Kabong strikes again! He may have needed help from a couple of friends but Dream Machine is headed to the pay window baybay! Morgan shows just what a beast he is by hanging Hayes with the chain. I agree with Bloomington, I'm amazed Hayes walked out on his own. Nothing guarantees ending a 80's wrestling show on a high note as a pair of proud Americans beating snobby foreigners.
