I would watch some WoS if Childs ever returned my DVDs

I think Parv has it right. Prioritize in the styles you are most interested in. I mean really, is Joe going to waste his time watching Bill Dundee matches? He'd rather light his face on fire or something. I know I am not going to waste my time on watching footage of people if I don't enjoy that wrestling style. Now, at the same time, if somebody comes along and says "Will, I know you are a huge Dick Murdoch fan. You should check out this Indy guy who works the mat like Dick, has punches almost as good as Dick and has amazing facial expressions like Dick. Oh, and by the way, he has some amazing matches that remind me of Dick's best". I would probably check that guy out. For Parv, I would say, "Parv, I know you like boring old guys with horseshoe haircuts. You should check out this indy guy who is boring as piss, always looks like he is on meds and has a really bad hairline." I think Parv would definitely check that guy out.

I never compared MSG to the Superdome. Don't look my way. Ask Kris. Having said that, was New Orleans part of the regular loop using a smaller arena on a weekly basis?- 201 replies

Agreed. Part of that isn't his fault. Too many other greats have been discovered.

To add to that, and I brought this up on the podcast, it is a crying shame that we don't have more footage from the 70s -early 80s from more places because I think guys get shafted for not being part of the cable boom or past their peak when that happens. Hell, even for as much Murdoch that is available, it is still primarily 1980s footage with some 70s stuff sprinkled in.- 201 replies

That is all Bix - Kris territory. Yeah, that wasn't my point. My goal was to point out the towns Parv selectively used to make his argument. He didn't say "Are you really going to compare New York to New Orleans or OKC?" I have no problem comparing the major centers of a promotion even if one of those is New York. He deliberately pointed to one of the smallest markets to make his argument and that irked me. I think Boricua really made a valuable point when comparing towns ran on a weekly loop vs. towns who got one shot a month. Different beasts with different goals. I won't hide the fact that I don't think highly of Slater in the big scheme of things but really, in running the podcast, I didn't want to get sidetracked with Slater. To be honest, I don't think he is exciting to watch or talk about. That's my personal bias and I was trying to steer the conversation away from Slater. I admit that. This line bothers me a little because I think you of all people know the work and effort it takes to work on a DVDVR project or goodhelmet project. As much work as you did for AWA, Portland, Puerto Rico, SMW and ECW... Phil, Kris, myself etc. did the same amount of homework and viewing for Mid South. In fact, you use those experiences as someone who has seen all that footage to strengthen your argument in many posts and podcasts littered throughout the internet and I agree with you!!!! When you watch nearly all available footage (not just from youtube or DM) from a promotion you get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of all the performers in that territory. You really do become an expert on what makes that place tick. You weren't part of the Mid South project and I think that is part of the disconnect. You may think we are romanticizing Mid South but we really did do the work in evaluating that place. We should do a podcast on this.- 201 replies

I like Race way more than Phil Schneider but way less than Jerry VK. I think he may have been high on my Smarkschoice list but he won't be that high this time around.

I really need to research Honda. I may do a personalized Tamon Honda set just to collect as much of his stuff as possible.

I don't care what he did after BattlArts. After that run, he would make my list anyway.

A lock for my list. Loved him nearly every single time in BattlArts.

I think I need a match by match run down for Hase.

OK, I took it as you calling Kris a liar or making shit up. Just standing up for the integrity of my buddy. On the point of ammo, I told Kris before we did the show that he needed data for the show. I thought he brought it. You thought otherwise.- 201 replies

I need to think long and hard about this. He could sneak on. I am not ruling him out yet.
-
I am with Dylan on this one. After watching the ECW and SMW footage, I can put him on without much hesitation. He won't be high on the list but he is safe.

Man, Sarge is a hard one. Clearly a great wrestler with several awesome performances but I don't know. A guy I can see going on easily or falling off.
-
He is in one of my favorite matches of all time... The Traumas vs. Navarro & Terry. I thyink his twilight years have been pretty spectacular. Just curious, what do we have from his from the 90s?

Put me in the "Wish we had more footage" camp.

I will let Kris or Bix jump on this because they know the history of the trends and I don't. Still, be consistent. Unless you were being completely facetious, you will take Kris's word when it suits you or you won't when it doesn't.- 201 replies

You can demonstrate that he was touring all over the country headlining and co-headlining multiple territories and put in main event slots.- 201 replies

I have to add that this is unbelievably huge at the time. Mark Maguire was a mega-star before the steroids scandal dropped him to scum status. This would be like LeBron James hanging out with John Cena and I don't even think that is a fit comparison.

I agree but it says more about the flaws in the way the ballot is set up than it does about a HOF candidacy. There are lots of Hall of Famers that are being left off or being inducted because of the category they are put in.- 201 replies

I actually don't count it as a big feather. My point is you can't randomly pick what cities you want to use in your shitty examples like Parv was doing. I am also looking at his runs else were, and he was wrestling big fucking cities throughout the entire United States on or near the top but not THE biggest cities in the whole wide world. Also, did you ignore that he was wrestling world championship matches since the 1960s through the 1980s? All those world champs were working the same tiny towns Parv was talking about. Also, he did work Mid Atlantic on and off throughout the 70s.- 201 replies
