  1. I was making discs for the up coming Y2J set and I still could not watch the Benoit matches that were on there. I had to time the segments or tune away from the TV until the match was over. However, when doing times for my Eddy set, I watched a Black Tiger vs. Wild Pegasus match, and even though I knew both guys were dead, it did not affect my viewing. I don't know if it is the WWE ring, or the younger looking Benoit, but I was able to sit through a Benoit match. Wierd.

  4. As a father first and a wrestling fan second, I have found it hard to watch his matches since this happened. When I was in Dallas, I brought along some DVDs to check out and Benoit was all over them. I had to skip the matches. I just kept thinking about what he did to his kid. With that said, I am also a history teacher who has no problem watching Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin every year so I may be able to watch his matches at a later time without feeling too torn up.

  7. As a father of two, I agree completely. I just found out about 2 hours ago from my wife. I am reading all of the posts and reports and trying to make sense of it all in a strange city away from my family and kids. Ultimately, I keep picturing his kid and I don't feel sadness for anyone but him.
  8. I am the last person to defend HHH but I wouldn't call this offensive. The Iron Cross is more of a German Army distinction similar to our Medal of Honor, and not a Nazi symbol that could be seen as offensive like the swastika or the SS lightning bolts. It was awarded long before Hitler and if HHH uses it as a symbol, it doesn't equate to being a Nazi supporter.

  11. Anyone have an Amazon link?
  12. I have never looked at the COD that way but it is a completely valid point. I don't know if I would enjoy it as much the next time around with that on my mind.
  13. The comparison to the Sporting News could not be more accurate.
  14. The wierd thing is that he matches you mentioned (except the Jumbo match which I have not seen) aren't really brawls. The Funks tag was a traditional tag until Hansen's interference. The Flair match had some brawling but was usually in the ring with attempts at holds. It also does not help that everyone mentioned in the above matches have had better mathes with so many other opponents (except mayabe Snuka although he has had better brawls than Brody) it doesn't really make Brody better in my eyes.
  15. Gord is right about PWI covering him more when he was alive. I probably stopped reading it around the same time Brody died as well. Also, while jdw is a Brody-hater, he isn't the only one in this thread that has criticized his ability.
  16. I have both but I think they are just Observer articles put into book form. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the older Observers that would confirm this.
  17. The one thing about the Monday night Wars is that WCW would pick guys up if they even thought WWF might have been interested. Brody might have picked up one of those Lanny Poffo contracts where WCW never intends to use him but didn't want the competition to have him either.
  18. I think that it isn't really a matter of judging Brody's matches to NJ spotfests. Part of it is a reflection of my youth where I eagerly awaited for a Brody match (watching him in WCCW as a kid) only to be let down afterwards. Also, keep in mind that most of the time, we are comparing Brody to people from his own era. Most of my list and most fo the matches I would roll out are from the 70s and 80s. Brody was being smoked in matches by people all around him. I will admit he was a great self-promoter who was hyped up by wrestling mouthpieces.
  19. Just for reference, was this the ROH or NOAH match you are talking about?
  20. I enjoyed the recaps since I am really tired of reading Meltzer and his formula but my only concern is how much info do you get from Meltz? Are you intentionally trying to avoid using Meltzer as a source? When you do future interviews from your podcast, these would be great vehicles for post-interview commentary. Also, do you plan on doing any recaps or reviews of the tons and tons of older footage we are collecting?
  21. I am disappointed you didn't do it Saturday when I talked to you.
  22. Loss told me he was going to start up a list of wrestlers he thought were better brawlers but I guess he got sidetracked. Anyway, here is a list of about 50 wrestlers I have seen in better brawls than I have ever seen Brody in... Jim Duggan (multiple against Dibiase; Buzz Sawyer) Ted Dibiase (multiple against Duggan; Murdoch; Flair bloodbath angle) Dick Murdoch (Numerous) Stan Hansen (Numerous) Jerry Lawler (vs. Mantel; Dundee; Terry Funk) Terry Funk (Numerous) Dusty Rhodes (Numerous) Ric Flair (Numerous) Butch Reed (vs. Buzz Sawyer; JYD) Eddie Gilbert (Battle of New Orleans; Concession Stand Brawl) Buzz Sawyer (vs. Duggan; vs. Reed) Buddy Rose (vs. Matt Borne; Rip Oliver; vs. Rockers) El Dandy (Buy my set) Fantastics (x2) (vs. Sheepherders; MX) Sheepherders (x2) (Buy Bix Comp) Terry Gordy (Duggan; Von Erichs; Killer Khan) Michael Hayes (Von Erichs) Buddy Roberts (Von Erichs; Iceman Parsons) Von Erichs (x3) (Freebirds; Dynamic Duo; One Man Gang) Sgt. Slaughter (Iron Shiek; Backlund; Steamboat & Youngblood) Randy Savage (Lawler; Steamboat; Austin Idol) Killer Khan (Gordy; Choshu) Bob Backlund (Slaughter; Hansen; Patera) RNR Express (x2) (Concession Stand; Flair; MX; Dibiase & Doc) Dutch Mantel (Savage; Fans; Lawler; Dundee & Landel) MX (Condrey & Eaton) (x2) (Fans; RNR; Road Warriors) La Parka (Dandy) Magnum TA (Dibiase; Nikita; Tully) Wahoo McDaniel (Magnum; Rick Rude; Slaughter) Tully Blanchard (Ron Garvin; Dusty; Magnum) Moondogs (x2) (Buy Bix comp) MS 1 (Sangre Chicana) Vader (vs. Sting; Cactus) Cactus Jack (Numerous) Roddy Piper (Greg Valentine; Buddy Rose; Paul Orndorff) Jushin Liger (vs. Samurai) Andre the Giant (Hansen; Studd) Chavo Guerrero (Steve Keirn; Fabulous Ones) Dick Slater (Numerous) Pat O Conner (Murdoch) Brett Sawyer (Rose; Oliver; Assassin) Bob Sweetan (Dibiase; Lawler) Dr. Death (Buzz Sawyer; Terry Gordy; Dick Murdoch) I am not saying all of these guys are without a doubt a better brawler than Brody. At the same time, I have never seen Brody in a better brawl than the guys I have listed including with guys I have listed. Every Brody opponent I can think of has been involved in a better brawl with other opponents. If you can give me some examples or specific matches where Brody trumps these guys, I would watch it.
  23. Oh fuck...
  24. Which is what makes it even more disappointing that he wasn't a good wrestler. I used to see those pics in the wrestling mags with Brody carryng the chain and blood covering his face and thought this guy is a must see. Then you see him operate in the ring and feel let down. Brody had a natural charisma and was "believable" but it didn't translate in the ring.
