  1. Where is the fun in that?
  2. I know it was deceptive. That is why I called you out. I couldn't let you get away with that.
  3. So where is the star rating?
  4. Damn... 2:00am... I don't know if I can commit to watching that on a weekly basis.
  5. If it helps, I get Fox Sports Southwest
  6. Does Impact come on at different times for different Fox Sports affiliates?
  7. Man, I just can't see myself investing the money to buy the shows. I would prefer to get the shows after-the-fact or on DVD at a later time if it gets enough praise. Since I have so much stuff in my collection I haven't seen, I am in no rush to add more wrestling to my viewing.
  8. I never said Meltz was god. In fact, I think most of his star ratings are laughable... but when it comes to wrestling history and trends, he is usually right on.
  9. According to Meltz, when you do something this drastic to generate interest, you are truly on your last legs.
  10. Hey Loss, I know you said you watched those All-Japan classics I gave you including Funk-Jumbo. Hurry up and get your thoughts down.
  11. I think the only problem I would have with that assertion Tim is that I haven't seen nearly enough Rey from Mexico to decide what I think his best matches are. If you meant stateside, I don't know if I would have a problem with that.
  12. Damn, Tim, now I have to start throwing this match on every comp I make as well. Also, for clarification, you are talking about the GAB match, not the No Way Out match, correct? Would we have to pay Friedlander prices to get it? If it helps, I have the Lawler-Idol cage match on DVD from Ginnetty. Loss... NOw, the burning question... which one is better... JBL-Eddie or Savage-Warrior? I know you gave the same rating to both matches and I also know which one I would pick
  13. Yeah, there isn't much for me to add that until you break the match down and defend the rating.. it is simply that, a rating. Take Tim cooke's dissection of SK's review of JBL-Eddy from Judgment Day. Tim didn't rate it. He didn't give it a star rating, but by the end of his point, I felt more confident in his explanation of the match than SK's. If you use star ratings, you can always say that a match is ***** or DUD or *** or whatever. The main thing is what criteria are you using when giving star ratings? At one time, SK clearly said that his star ratings are based on the criteria est. by Jim Cornette. Unfortuantley, the hack rarely ever defends his ratings OR explains the strengths and weaknesses of the matches. His ratings, in effect, are meaningless. When Loss writes a beautiful write-up on JBL-Eddy and gives it a star rating, even using the same criteria SK uses, his star rating has more weight because he has defended his position better. Personally, I prefer not to use star ratings when reviewing a match (see my thread in the What Are You Watching thread for explanation). But, I can argue when a match deserves more than ** (JBL-Eddy) or is not ***** (Owen-Bret) even though someone said those were the ratings for those matches. Also, look at threads on any given board after a PPV. Common posts have titles like "What was the rating for the matches on the show?" or "My ratings for this show". There is hardly ever any analysis or support to the things they say. That is meaningless. It is the justification behind the rating that holds weight, not the stars. Also, I am very interested in your thoughts on DK-Tm when we start the Tiger Mask-Dynamite Kid thread because I have never heard anyone who has seen Kawada-Misawa and the Dk-TM series ever say that the latter was better. You better have good explanation!!!!!
  14. OK, as far as I know, it wasn't... but Loss was telling me that Phil Schneider and tomk from DVDVR were pimping it right after it happened. Incidentally, Loss and I were chatting and talking about how we wanted to see the match... mainly to see Eddie carry JBL. Then, Tim Cooke posted a breakdown of SK's rant on the show (he gave the match **1/2) and dismantled SK's shitty review. The blog entry can be found here... http://www.livejournal.com/users/rspwfaq/142690.html After that, I hunted the match down and somehow the match ended up in Some Guy's and Loss's hands.
  15. To be honest, I have never put a star rating to a match... ever (at least that I know of). I think they are a valuable commodity when trying to quantify matches but I can't tell the difference between a **** match and a ****1/4 match. However, There is a certain breaking point at which I would put a **** match over a ***1/2 or even a ***3/4 match. Then again, I have also not seen all the matches I want to be able to undoubtedly say what is the pinnacle of wrestling. 6-9-95, to this day, is my favorite match of all-time. Plenty of people have called it ***** and I would agree. However, some say 12-6-96 is the best and I wouldn't argue that either. To me, 6-11-76 is a match that holds up remarkable well for being 30 fucking years old. Yet, when we get to all of the matches below the top handful, there are a ton of awesome matches that just aren't quite at that level. And to be honest, I don't fel like doling out the stars to something that isn't number one. With that said, I think there is a clear line between a great macth and a good match, a good match and a mediocre match, a mediocre match and a bad match etc. Word. Now if you want this match, you can always PM me. I can tell you where to find it.
  16. I'm just sad that my comments and Some Guy's weren't enough for you to pick it up.
  17. The bullrope match isn't even in the same league. The pacing, the BS ending, the light malfunction.... a fun match but not a great one.
  18. Oh man, I was just joking. Thanks for the head-up though. I'll be sure to comment on it after I read it.
  19. What page number is the error on? I have been meaning to pick it up for awhile but I'm too behind on other projects. I may pick it up sometime in May.
  20. It's one DVD. It is about two hours long.
  21. You have them. They are part of the 40 DVDs I sent you Look at the match listings.
  22. That is exactly my point. If I can get 5 people to pick up this set, I'll go ahead and start. I know Loss, teke, Some Guy and (I think) Nik Johns have the matches. A few more people and we can have a real spirited discussion about their worth.
  23. Wow.... I am in shock that someone could undertake this task. Now, I have to break out the pen and paper and start on a new wishlist.
  24. I have a DVD comp I made of the Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid series. I placed the matches in order and thought it would be a good starting point for match discussions. Loss was talking about discussing matches everyone has seen and this series is infamous for the praise AND criticism it receives. The matches on the disc are as follows... 4-23-81 1-1-82 1-28-82 7-23-82 8-5-82 8-30-82 4-21-83 Is anyone interested? If I can get several orders, I'll start pumping out the discs and send them all off at the same time. I figure $7 a disc is fair. I wouldn't really make any profit since shipping for each individual would be about $4 plus purchase of the mailing package and the cost of the DVD. This is purely one way to genreate discussion for this board. Tell me what you think.
  25. Let us not forget that it also delivered one of the best intro video packages the Fed has ever done.
