We keep talking about wrestlers jumping other brands but has there even been mention or announcement of a draft this year?
-
From the observer website..... JBL vs. Rey Kidman vs. London Plus, just from the report, it looks like an entertaining show. I'll get the VCR running.
-
I'll elaborate more (I am supposed to be enlighening young minds after all) but I think it is insane to reward a "clusterf***" because it set out to be one and succeeded. Take the Scramble Cage from ROH in 2003. Insane spots. Holy S*** moments yet there is no way I would call it a ***-**** match but I enjoy it more than the TLC matches. It is entertaining to me but I don't even call that crap wrestling. There is zero suspension of disbelief. If the goal is to be a crapfest then why should it be rewarded at all? Plenty of matches succed at what they set out to do but that doesn't mean they were good matches.

I understand your reasoning, even repsect it, but I have never liked interference in big time matches. I really need to see the Southern Boys-MX match to see the Cornette-referre spot you werew telling me. Even then, I just like matches between the partipants to be the main focus.... not the guys on the outside.

I'm not sold. I'll really have to watch some of his singles matches because I have never seen a solo Christian match I have ever liked. Please tell me you are not saying that Angle is one of the greatest of all-time and are only repeating what the Angle fanboys have tried to sell us. yeah, really, the show may have been a well-booked show but it just may be the most overrated show this side of Canadian Stampede. I would hardly call the interference a plus. Also, what homage spots are you talking about? Elaborate.

The Torch is released weekly and theinterviews usually span several issues. We'll prolly be finished with the interview in a month's time.

I don't want to say you are alone on this but I wouldn't know where to start. Hell, you mentioned Mark Henry-Booker T and I had no idea they even fought. Maybe, you should start making a list of all of the matches you saw that you want and post them in the wishlist thread or continue doing the year-by-year reviews for companies so we can get an idea of what matches we missed out on.
-
I have been so out of touch with WWE tv that i didn't even know Booker and Mark Henry faced each other.
-
Actually, I'll have to look but most of the good ROH matches have been pimped to death by someone. It is also much easier to keep track of those matches since they are all on home release DVD. For WWE, if you miss the television and don't tape it , you prolly will never see that match again.
-
Manm, I watched zero WWE TV in 2004 so I don't know what hasn't been pimped countless times so I nominate Joe-PunkII.

Wrestlemania XV- This show actually made me watch wrestling on tv again. Since '98, I always tried to catch Wrestlemania. I had stopped watching wrestling for three months when I ordered Mania. The last show I watched prior to this was Starrcade 98. For the smart fan, this show sucked. For someone looking for a reason to watch wresling again, it did its job.I watched Austin-Rock a few months back and I still enjoy it. I can't even remember the rest of the card. Wrestlemania 2000- History shows that this is a bad card. I haven't seen it since it aired so I can't call it. At the time, I was actually just a few months into being on the internet and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I do think the ladder match was better than the subsequent TLC matches (except 3) and maybe I feel that way because it was the first time I saw that kind of reckless behavior in the ring. Since then, I have seen so much shit that this seems lame. I remember being disappointed with the 3-way even though people still rave about that match. Wrestlemania X7 - This is not a great top-to-bottom show. The main event rules it. The Benoit-Angle match was ok. I could do without the rest. The hardcoe match was crap. Eddie fighting Test was a valiant effort but one I never need to see again. Nostalgia for the Legends battle royale but zero redeeming qualities. HHH-Taker is the most overrated match ever... I think. Just horrible, horrible match. Wait, I spoke too soon... TLC2 was the most overrated match ever. An overbooked spotfest whose appeal had already dissolved. Jericho-Regal was sad to watch because I expected so much more. Wrestlemania X8 - The first Wrestlemania I watched that I remember being disappointed with. I had also been on the internet for awhile and was completely corrupted... or enlightened. I enjoyed the atmosphere o Rock-Hogan and am still stunned with the reaction those guys recieved. During the mian event, I was too busy putting together a bench for my wife to notice. I remember the TV being deadly silent at the time. How sad is that? Wrestlemania XIX - I watched this at a bar. I was inebriated so I think I enjoyed it more than I should have. Lesnar-Angle is such a medicre match that I am shocked when I hear people praise it. I still like Rock-Austin but for nostalgia purposes and not for the match quality. i'll admit it... iWas entertained by Hogan-Vince. I was also pretty gone by this ime. I think I woas hoping one of them would shoot on the other. HBK-Y2J was the best match as everyone eadily admits. Wrestlemania XX - I marked out for Benoit like everyone else. I enjoyed Eddie-Angle. I enjoyed Rock and Foley. Everything else was a waste of ime. I bought the DVD on a whim and regret the decision. I should have let time pass because I can't even watch the show anymore. Maybe I'll give it some love in a few years when the rose-colored glasses come back on.

I am 2/3 of the way through the Heenan-Cornette shoot. This isn't constructed like a regular interview. It is basically two guys sitting down reminiscing about the business. So many stories and tangents that I wouldn't know where to begin to summarize. It is times like these that I miss teke's shoot recaps since I could probably save some nice coin and just read the stories. Some of the stories were alredy covered in previous shoots but the real treat is the reaction of the other guy when one of them are retelling a story. Cornette was mentioning Mantaur and Heenan had no clue what he was talking about. His facial expressions were priceless. This is def. a DVD you want to pick up.

I didn't blame Viacom so much as I was criticizing the era. The fact the product has sucked since the switch is probably just a coincidence but there really has been very few positives... even on the business side since everything has been a bust. Hell, I am not even diving into the wrestling blunders. If we look at it from the wrestling side, Eddie and Benoit became World champs and you can always call out certain matches as good. I am talking strictly in terms of the company growing asn prospering.

OK, there are enough conflicting opinions of the show that will entice me to grab this on netflix but not enough to actually buy the disc. It certainly doesn't sound like it was worth $50.
-
It could have used a preemption. Maybe that would have cleared their head and they would have thought about all of their mistakes.
-
Yeah, if you look back at the Viacom era as I like to call it, I think it was a huge failure. Really, what good has come from it? How did going to viacom benefit the company? I don't know the money situation but I know the XFL took a hit. Ratings took a dive. I think Vince was a billionaire before the switch and now he isn't. The product has been completely stagnant. Is there any good to come from the Viacom era?

MOre Meltzer results... spoilers.....

I agree with you but I think it exposes HHH too since he usually only has good matches that last long with quality opponents. he simply can't carry the marginal workers the way guys like Austin and Rock could. He is a sorry excuse for a human being. I was also saddened that Taker beat Orton. I don't really care for Orton but have no use for Taker... at all. Now, I'll get to see HBK beat Angle.. .YIPPEEE!!!

VIII - I guess this is the time where I really start feeling differently abvout the Manias then you guys. I stopped watching/ordering Mania after V (I don't recall seeing 6) and all of the Manias I saw after, were either rented or seen when I bought the Mania boxset. With that said, I liked Piper-Hart but was underwhelmed by it. I liked Savage-Flair mainly for Flair's performance. The rest was crap as far as I can remember. I didn't mark out for Warrior coming out because I already knew the results from the net. NO magic here for me. IX - I don't think I have seen the entire show all the way through. I watched it in the WM boxset and pushed fastforward through nearly everything. X - My thoughts on this show are in another thread while i was arguing with Some Guy. When I first saw Bret-Owen I thought it was the best WWF match I had ever seen. Then I have seen others that I like more (Austin-Bret SS96, Steiners vs Harts) but I still called it ****+. After being exposed to so many matches, I don't think I like it that much anymore. Wine really doesn't improve with age. I am going to review the aldder match so people will stop calling it a **** match or so I will give it the creidt it is due. I think it will wind up being the former. XI - call me silly but I really enjoyed this show... even the trash. I remember channel surfing one night and seeing LT on WWF tv and I hadn't watched wrestling in forever. Then I get on the net half a decade later and people were raving about this match. I liked the Shawn-Diesel match when I saw it a few years back but haven't seen it since. XII - It took me about three days to get through the Ironman. I kept falling asleep on the damn thing. The Piper-Goldust stuff was entertaining to me. Sue me. XIII - I liked Austin-Hart but not nearly as much as their Survivor Series 96 match. I don't know if I would call this show better than WM3. Then again, maybe you(Loss) have the same personal connection with this show that I have with 3. I saw this 4 years after it happened. I experienced 3 live. actually thought the tag match was fun but maybe because Owen was already dead and I was just happy to see him. Who knows? as for the Street Fight, I thought it was a garbage match then and still don't see any need to rewatch it. And the Adonis-Piper angle so rules over everything on this show that isn't Hart-Austin. XIV - I loved it when I watched it live. On reviewing, I didn't like it as much but I still love Rock's interview with Gennifer Flowers. That made the Rock in my eyes. Before hat, I had no use for him. After that, I was a fan of a heel... something I had never done up to that point.

So far... from Meltzer Spoilers warning if you haven't seen the show..... Go back now don't go forward....

the one thing I love about this match is the ending. Not just the execution but WCW finally got it right for once. The original plan was for Eddie to go over and Rey to lose his mask but the powers-to-be actually listened to the wrestlers and allowed Rey to win. Eddie dominates the match with Rey getting in his hope spots but Eddie is such a dick that you end up cheering for Rey midway through no matter what your preference may be.
