  1. I always find Patterson to be unintentionally comedic during these things. Like when he claimed that the only Canadians to have a great career outside of Canada were Bret and himself.
  2. He didn't need to "lay into him" with it. The sheer size and weight of the chair was more than enough to put Sheamus down, without Show having to look like he was trying to test his strength at the county fair.
  3. The new one about "Hardcore" is pretty good. Patterson talks about how much he hates hat style of wrestling and Hayes calls him out for how proud he is of that Alley Fight he and Slaughter had in '81.
  4. Did anyone else notice Rollins hit his head on the table bump? One of the guys I was watching with noticed the first time, and after the numerous replays we all started wincing at is.
  5. It would have been four years too late, but I think Barry finally getting the big win over Flair would have been a great moment.
  6. Finally watching this 1980 Timeline with Larry. The bullshit is astounding. "I inspired Angle to be come a wrestler!"
  7. An update on it from one of the puroresufan boards states that the plan seems to be for Mutoh and AJPW to produce the Kobashi retirement show and then have Kobashi move into the PWF Chairman role.
  8. I don't think they have much choice but to start another company. Both All Japan and New Japan have spent the last few years focusing on their homegrown talent. What does a guy like Kanemaru have to offer either company, outside of working the annual junior tourny and putting over their junior champion?
  9. According to both the Death of WCW book, and the Monday Night Wars episode of the Legends Roundtable, Hogan didn't want to turn. He only came around to it when he lost leverage in getting a bigger contract because Nitro ratings were way up after the NBA playoffs, and he couldn't claim ratings were down because he wasn't on TV.
  10. The first two that came to mind when seeing this thread were the '04 Foley match and the '07 LMS match with HHH. The problem with Orton is that he's been around for such a long time that there's almost nothing to do with him that won't seem like been there done that. He's done extended runs as both a babyface and a heel and feuded with pretty much every top name on the roster: Cena, HHH, Undertaker, Edge, Punk, Sheamus, Mysterio, and now Del Rio. I think it'd probably benefit his career in the long run to take a few years off anbd go work some indies or in Japan to broaden his own horizons and come back later on with some new names to work with.
  11. Something I've always been curious about, that I actually just asked Bill on FB. The Road Warriors/Fabs match is from the Mid South Coliseum. But I don't recall the Roadies being Memphis regulars? Was this just a one-shot while they were AWA Champions, or was this part of Pro Wrestling USA?
  12. You think Dusty's huge ego would let happen? Lex wasn't considered main event level until he left the Horsemen in early '88. This I can see happening. Magnum and Tully had plenty of history together, although I don't think Tully was considered a World Title threat. Barry was only brought in because of Magnum's accident. He'd been in Florida before that, he'd have probably come in to JCP in '87 when Florida got bought out. But I don't see him coming in as a heel, he'd always been considered Dusty's understudy. If JCP was willing to do a big angle with the UWF boys, then yes.
  13. It's been said before, that the plan for Starrcade '86 wasn't Magnum over Flair, it was Magnum over Nikita in an I Quit match, I'd imagine for the U.S. Title, but I guess it'd be possible to make it non-title since it was such a personal rivalry between them. I do think that Magnum would have eventually gotten the title from Flair, at Starrcade '87 at the latest, but where do they go from there? JCP didn't have a lot of main event level heels, so I don't think TA would have had a whole lot to do with the strap once he got it. Rematches around the circuit with Flair, rekindle the feud with Nikita over the World Title, and what else?
  14. I think that the blown suplex hurt Brodus and his elimination was an audible so he could get checked out. It's way too random to have him be the only one to take a fall on the team.
  15. Cornette says he came up with it as a half joke to his friend Norm Dooley who was doing a newsletter and simply saying things like good match, terrific match, excellent match, etc. So he suggested that Norm do star ratings like TV guide did for movies.
  16. Do the new classic house shows (I think this month is an LA one) on Classics also feature the original initials?
  17. The new Legends Roundtable is all about RAW, and interestingly enough features the famous Mankind Title win, complete with scratch logo and unmuted mentions of "WWF."
  18. The more Greg/Tito matches I see, the more I love the feud. The October '84 MSG show was dullsville, until Tito and Greg had about a five minute match with Greg juicing. I'm getting a couple of '81 MSGs with Backlund/Valentine, including the one where Greg gets announced as new champ.
  19. Loss just described me at age 17
  20. The guys and I cracked up at JBL namedropping various WCCW names, like Steve Simpson. I was half expecting a Bill Mercer or Marc Lowrance mention.
  21. That's funny because Verne Gagne used to namedrop him all the time on AWA TV. Edit: Wow, I had no idea that he was the wrestling coach at my old High School.
  22. Found the exact quote from his review of that show.
  23. Scott once claimed that Dusty wanted to put the title on Steiner at Clash XIV and that Flair actually signed off on it, which was one of the very few times that both of them agreed on something.
  24. The TNA PPV was lots of fun, although the crowd didn't seem that into anything. You'd think that Hernandez/Chavo winning would get a huge pop, but it wasn't anything special. I think the biggest pop of the night was when Chavo namedroped Eddie. Also, Devon being the Aces and Eights guy got a big "Holy shit" from the guys I was watching with, and the "This is awkward" chant afterward had us rolling.
  25. Another one.
