  1. This was a great angle and I'd really love to see the match this is building to. It's good TV and edgy for the product, the sort of angle that would fit in with the best of the MNW stuff in that regard, but at the same time does a fantastic job specifically building up to one match. The performances from everyone were great, the layout was great, it all made sense and was exciting. Definitely one of the best angles and TV segments of the year.
  2. Nice match with some good spots and a good dynamic. I liked Corino in the beginning too, good snivelling heel work and makes Taz look like a killer.
  3. This match is definitely bloated. Although I liked the arm work and especially Misawa's later selling of it -- especially his selling of it while going for a tiger driver later in the match -- a lot of the opening stuff didn't really draw me in. In a way I feel like this match needed to be condensed but at the same time the big time epic feel that this does benefit from at the end sort of necessitates the length and the sort of gradual build they were going for. The amount of overkill didn't really bother me so much other than Kobashi kicking out of the TD91. That Tiger Driver spot had been so well built to at that point in the match that a regular one would have sufficed for a big near fall without making everything feel excessive -- and really after kicking out of a TD91 it's hard for anything that comes after that not to feel excessive. I can still forgive that a good bit though thanks to Kobashi's great selling. From that point on it was academic: Kobashi's fire had burned itself out and he'd been hit by a bomb he couldn't fully recover from, Misawa was just waiting til all the lights were off. This is a match where the best parts of it make you feel like it should be a lot better than it turns out in whole. Like I said, bloated is a word that jumps to me about this match. The best stuff here is just incredible and even if they go overboard the bomb throwing in the end stretch is very well done and makes this feel like a huge war.
  4. Another great outing from Battlearts. Love the dynamic here, a team of gaijin brothers vs. the top two natives. Opening stuff is awesome, Joe brings a real explosive athleticism and does some cool amateur stuff. This feels maybe a little bit more to the shoot style side of things than most of the other Battlearts matches so far on the set. There's a great spot where Ishikawa is doing those drop downs while in a reverse indian deathlock and Joe comes into the ring and kicks him but Ishikawa falls down with it still locked in like he had done the drop down himself and turns to Ikeda and laughs. Some really great exchanges toward the end and the actually ending is pretty neat too, Carl hits a move that wouldn't look out of place in a 2014 too-much-offense indie match and turns it into a submission for the win.
  5. This is one hell of a match up and this is a slugfest that lives up to it. Hashimoto's kick while perched on the top rope was a great spot. Really impressive how these guys are able to work such a satisfying and consistently entertaining match around strikes. Ending is cool too.
  6. Alright, so this is the first RAW I watched in full. Lots of memories are starting to come back now. When Austin mentioned Triple H crippling Foley the week before I now remember that was the first segment that hooked me while flipping channels. I don't think I stayed up to see the main event but that segment at least hooked me enough to where I wanted to watch next week, and I remember seeing all the replays of the higher power coming out, and ended up watching this in full and I was a big time fan from then on. Pretty lame reveal but at least they quickly placate fans by giving them Austin as CEO. Austin was instantly my favorite thanks to this segment. Well actually, my favorite until for some reason I became a huge Test mark.
  7. This is a weird segment. Bagwell will be "given the ball" if Piper wins. Basicall this segment is outright saying "Hey guys, Buff Bagwell is about to be pushed." It's like a dirtsheet as a TV segment.
  8. This feud is getting more 2014 WWE by the week! This time they even added the phony, overbearing laugh from commentary!
  9. This doesn't have the narrative or dynamic that take the better AJPW to the next level, or even action on QUITE the same level, but this was still really great. The bizarro pairing was cool I thought and Kawada and Kobashi actually worked great as a team. Loved their transition into controlling Misawa and the end was really worked great too. They really gelled as a team. Another great team moment of theirs was raining down repeated leg drops and knee drops on Misawa which the crowd responded huge for and really hot them behind Misawa. The early Kawada/Taue and Kawada/Misawa segments were great and really heated.
  10. Good sort of old school match. Lots of stock Flair spots but without quite the structure that makes it feel like a real 80s Flair match. Felt like more emphasis on back and forth action which made it feel a little more at home in 1999.
  11. Holy shit this match is incredible. This definitely has similarities with their classic 96 match as early on Samurai goes for the arm and Ohtani goes for the leg and they actually make it mean something. The opening mat stuff is fantastic and once they target in on the body parts they start busting out some big submission spots and this match feels like a hard fought war before they even start throwing bombs. The selling from both guys is great here too. Ohtani seems to get more mileage out of the leg than Samurai does out of the arm, Samurai sells a bit more and for a bit longer, and Ohtani goes back to the leg later in the match in a way Samurai doesn't. Once they start throwing bombs they don't forget to sell and this match really goes to another level. Some amazing spots and Ohtani's out of it selling is really fantastic. This isn't a go-go-go kind of match at all as they're always selling the fatigue but from a workrate prosective it's still as good and exciting as any of the great juniors matches. There are some real heart stopping near falls at the end. Ohtani also hits just about the nasties boot scrape of all time. Kind of bummed about the draw ending because this was a match I really wanted to have a real finish but damn this was one of the best juniors matches ever. My new MOTY.

    Updated for May.
  13. This feud reminds me of 2014 WWE.
  14. There's an obvious racial undercurrent, given what the feud is it could hardly be any other way. I don't have any problem with that though. This was a fun segment and I really liked Konan on the mic.
  15. Really good clip here. Really liked Kanemoto ducking the shotei to get into an ankle lock. The very opening stuff was great too and I liked the ending. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing this in full.
  16. Good match with an especially hot opening couple minutes. WCW must have had at least 10 matches in 1999 better than WWF's best match.
  17. Incredible match. Really had a sense of progression here with the stand up getting more and more intense and the grappling ending up with progressively more dangerous submission predicaments. The grappling was great and there were some really awesome moments. The stand up was great too, there was a really good moment where Kohsaka just blasts Yammamoto with a flurry of strikes and Yammamoto gets a count for being out on his feet. By around the 10 minute mark this started to feel like a really grueling fight. Yammamoto is in a lot of trouble at the end, taking some knockdowns and having to grab some rope breaks, but comes back for the win with a huge flurry of palm strikes.
  18. Alright match. Definitely felt like a big deal for Triple H, the short trunks really are a much better look for him.

It's lame that the Authority is back but that was the first time Seth's been good on the mic.

Oh God is this shitty scripted promo is going to damage Ryback's heat?
  21. Feels like a terribly lazy and unnatrual face turn.
  22. Talk about exceeding expectation. This was a very good ECW style brawl. They kept it moving and worked some cool spots and had some good heat. I was never even bothered by Storm, the chair shot that busted Dreamer open was really good even, I thought. It wasn't the most aggressive of brawls sure but matches like this are more about weapons spots than violence and aggression, and by that standard I thought this was very good.
  23. This disk is finishing off super strong. Another great match, like their house show match but with more energy and basically everything being better. Matwork was good, the outside/ramp stuff was good, Tajiri does just about the best tarantula ever. Their styles match up incredibly well to produce a unique and extremely entertaining match.
  24. Another awesome match/segment. Super hot and not only well done as an angle-advancing segment but damn well worked as a match too. They keep things moving and work in some cool stuff. Ending is great. RAW had two really dynamite segments tonight.
