They also did some Orton stuff with Brie Bella in the Fall of 2013, that played up the relationship with Bryan big.

I liked that when they started using the tag rope again in 2002, that Eddy Guerrero started using it for a comedic spot in his matches in 2003.

Yep, as Loss said, I was referring to the mock tribute show they did. I don't know if this is the thread for this, but Mike Benoit said then WWE Canada President Carl DeMarco gave him a call hours before the show. Meltzer also received a call before the RAW show telling him Benoit was the killer. I don't know about Vince, I don't remember any details there (if anyone has any, please inform me), but there was definitely executive(s) and people who knew.

As far as Styles goes, wasn't Heyman consistently feeding him lines throughout ECW's run? I remember hearing that in the past. From what I understand, Heyman played a big role in Styles' commentary.

I don't see them ever doing Owen & Eddy type tribute shows again. They parodied the aesthetics of those tributes in June 2007, and if someone on the roster dies at some point, I assume they'll have a new format to work with.

I went to a WWE house show last night. It was a legitimate sell out, but that's been the trend in Hidalgo since 2003. Meltzer told me it has the longest streak of sell outs of any market WWE currently tours. I've been to live shows and seen Perro Aguayo, El Hijo Del Santo, Marco Antonio Solis, Canelo Alvarez, Eddy Guerrero, Hulk Hogan and John Cena's pop and reception was probably more impressive, and positive than all those guys. The Shield, Big Show, Sheamus, and The Usos all got great receptions too, but Cena was at another level. Big E. vs Swagger, The Usos vs Rhodes Brothers vs Rybaxel, Sheamus vs O'Neil, and Cena & The Shield vs The Wyatts & Kane were good to really good matches. I think Dylan and some of you would have really dug Sheamus-O'Neil. Really physical match, you could loudly hear a significant amount of the forearms, slaps, and body shots. O'Neil had three really impressive power spots where he tossed Sheamus around like a rag doll. At one point, Sheamus jumped off the top, and O'Neil caught him easily, and then just threw him around the ring. They got a good amount of time out there, felt like the longest match of the night, and it was a really strong effort from both guys. Really good stuff.

Cena-Umaga from New Years Revolution 2007. Almost everyone just talks about their match a few weeks later, but I think this is on the same level of greatness as that "I Quit" match. I think fans of Lawler-Blackwell would probably dig it.

Triple H just announced that the Ultimate Warrior passed away

This reminds me of when Bret Hart was on WOR when Eddy Guerrero died. -

There was a great video with HHH working out to prepare for Bryan, saying he needed to work on his speed and cardio, as opposed to working on his strength like in previous years. -
[2014-04-08-WWE-Network] Journey To Wrestlemania: Daniel Bryan
Eduardo replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
I remember Meltzer writing on the WON, on July 2004, about his thoughts on the Benoit-HHH Ironman match and Joe-Punk I (60 minute draw). I forgot exactly how he phrased it, but he mentioned how people within WWE knew about Joe and his reputation for being one of the best in the world (at that time). There was more to it than that but I don't remember the details so I don't want to say something and have it be wrong.- 16 replies

[2014-04-08-WWE-Network] Journey To Wrestlemania: Daniel Bryan
Eduardo replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
A thing to consider, Danielson had worked a few dark matches in the year leading up to his WWE NXT debut. Even before that year, many years before actually, he had worked spots on c-shows, including a match with John Cena. So at the very least, he had to have been known to even some guys who were just insulated within the WWE.- 16 replies

[2014-04-08-WWE-Network] Journey To Wrestlemania: Daniel Bryan
Eduardo replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
I liked this and thought it was a neat half-kayfabe profile on Daniel Bryan. Maybe he was just saying this for this program, but is it really possible that The Miz had no idea who Daniel Bryan was before they got paired up on NXT?- 16 replies

This profile on Daniel Bryan that's currently airing on the WWE Network is really neat and cool.

Crowd cheers raging homophobe and racist but boos genuine Mexican-American/Chican@ legend in pro wrestling.

I wish he would do a promo like this - Was just sad to see him last night. It reminded me of seeing a totally shot fighter or boxer, who had just stuck around way too long. I hope he retires. I'm glad I got to see him at two house shows these past few years. I was surprised because at one of the house shows I went to a few years ago, he took a superplex.

Not that I'm complaining, but it appears that this is going to be longer than Bela Tarr's 7 1/2 hour Sátántangó. Lita's speech was great.

I was trying to watch the Main Event stream on Monday, and it was really low quality on my PS3. VOD has worked good today, but really worried about Sunday.

Was just watching WrestleWar 90, and a ringside fan had a "We Have Herd Enough" sign.

[2012-04-01-WWE-Wrestlemania XXVIII] CM Punk vs Chris Jericho
Eduardo replied to Loss's topic in April 2012
I really thought the early part of this was sooo awful. Having the camera and mic perfectly pick up Jericho's corny lines and having Punk react to them made me feel embarrassed watching this. It made Jericho and Punk look like terrible actors, reciting terrible lines. The match picked up right after the suplex to the outside and thought the work was solid from that point on. It had some good moments towards the end but the first half was really bad. I thought Orton-Christian did the "chicken shit heel tries to get DQ'ed to win the title" bit a whole lot better since those guys didn't do any hammy acting or line readings that wouldn't cut it in a high school stage production.- 9 replies

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Eduardo replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I don't have my Wrestling Gold DVD's anymore, but didn't Jim Cornette tell the same fucked up, transphobic story in the commentary? -
Found this from the WON, after the match aired: There was one major bit of controversy, which was the piledriver that Cena kicked out of just before the finish. The piledriver in that form is banned in WWE (the tombstone is allowed under special dispensation from Vince and usually only for Undertaker, or a reverse by Undertaker’s opponent in a Mania match). Vince was livid even though the match was great, at seeing the move. Cena, since he’s bullet proof, was the one who, after the match, said that it was his fault and said it was a miscommunication. I don’t know that Cena is the one who called the spot, or if an agent okayed it, but Cena took full responsibility for it and said it was all his fault.
-
This is my favorite match of theirs. Loved the piledriver, and the final desperation finish of Cena doing the hurricarana to set-up the AA. I see this as the blow off or climax of their series. EDIT: Also, didn't both Cena and Punk get in trouble after the match for the piledriver?
-
I was digging the whole dancing thing and the shtick but I had to watch the baby fora brief second. I saw them crumple to the mat, Fandango does a suplex and then missed the leg drop. Then the finish and Goldust visibly pissed off. What did I miss? Fandango fucked up Goldust's hurricarana, and dropped him on his head. Then the suplex thing happened right after. Looked bad.

What do CM Punk and Daniel Bryan identify as?
