  1. I like that Aries spot, and he does a good job with it. But if I'm remembering correctly, doesn't Aries usually drive forward with his shoulder as the impact point as opposed to the head? It seems like no one in America actually drives forward with their head as the point of impact.
  2. Does any American pro wrestler have a good execution of the tope? After seeing Punk's tope tonight, it got me thinking how I can't remember ever seeing a good tope from an American pro wrestler. It seems like they don't get the move at all, and it always looks awful.
  3. I remember reading an interview with El Hijo Del Santo discussing his son and the Santo gimmick. If I remember correctly, Santo stated that if his son isn't good enough (or lives up to the Santo standard) then the Santo gimmick would be retired with El Hijo Del Santo. So Santo really expects a certain level of quality/standard from everything I've heard or read. It's not a guarantee that his son will be getting the gimmick. If his son isn't good by Santito's standards, then he's not getting the gimmick. El Hijo Del Santo is very protective of his father's legacy. I think this was even briefly mentioned in the Observer once.
  4. If one were to make a list of the most charismatic pro wrestlers ever, very few people would be ahead of Cien Caras. Just in terms of charisma, he might be the most under-appreciated star of the last 30 years. Reyes has a star quality that is seldom seen in pro wrestling. He's a great natural performer, he could have been an iconic villain in narco-cinema b-movies.
  5. Sims has also talked in the past about how much drug cartels are involved in lucha shows. Anyways, here's a recent pic of Volk Han shaking hands with Maeda.
  6. A handheld of Lawler-Benoit was posted in DVDVR (I think it might have been Bix who uploaded it). It was a good Lawler performance. Negro Casas vs Fuerza Guerrera (EMLL - September 1980). It's a match that Casas has talked about in interviews before and about how it's supposely supposed to be one of the greatest matches ever. Perro Aguayo vs Marty Jones (Hair vs Hair Match). This looks like it was fucking awesome.
  7. Nope, Meltzer is not going to be on today and I don't think he passed the gig on Alvarez. I am assuming this is due to Sherdog's Jordan Breen being on an F4W/WON podcast recently and probably just being nice enough to send Alvarez an invitation.
  8. So tomorrow, Bryan Alvarez is going to be making his first appearance ever on the Sherdog roundtable for a UFC PPV breakdown. Meltzer has come out on that before numerous times, he's friendly with those guys and some of those guys grew up reading him. So Meltzer's fine in that since he'll just give some fight predictions and some business thoughts if someone in that crew asks him about it. If Alvarez acts on this Sherdog show the way he acts on his F4W podcasts, it will be really embarrassing.
  9. When did Pat Patterson stop being involved in laying out the Rumble?
  10. If I am remembering correctly, I think it was around 1995 or 1996, one of the WCW commentators mentioned it on WCW television that they were abandoning that rule.
  11. Sherdog.com editor Jordan Breen's version of the story: McCall seems to confirm that it was all rushed rather quickly and he was signed just a few days before the announcement. So I guess it was something done rather quickly on totally short notice. Yeah, considering they are now going to have events on both FX and Fuel TV, makes sense to have another division to fill up those events. Yeah it's awesome that they are doing a flyweight division, Ian McCall is one of the most fun and charismatic fighters around, and it finally gives Mighty Mouse and Benavidez the right division to compete in. I've been waiting for years for Zuffa to finally do this. Yamaguchi is another great fighter with a lot of personality (and a great afro) and Formiga's grappling is amazing (his back control is beautiful stuff). John Dodson will probably drop back down to compete at flyweight, and I could see a few other guys that are currently bantamweights that might drop down too.
  12. A week ago Meltzer said that we weren't going to see a UFC flyweight division in 2012, then on Saturday night, Dana announces a four man tournament for the new UFC flyweight crown. So UFC had to have had a deal with the TPF champ Ian McCall and Shooto champ Yasuhiro Urushitani before Saturday, so work towards that was being done probably when Meltzer was denying such a division. Did Meltzer address this reporting of bad information on any podcast or message board post? Or did Dana or Joe Silva change their mind at the last minute?
  13. Tito Santana's telling the truth, even Bret Hart confirmed that Santana was in consideration for the title but the company ended up picking Hart over Santana. Also, while they did respect each other as workers, Hart and Santana were not tight, so I don't think Hart is just saying that to go along with Santana's story. Seems legit.
  14. Why does Dave Meltzer keep saying that Randy Couture (along with other fighters like Miletich) participated in professional wrestling, when he goes on to admit that he was never in a worked match? This whole bit confuses me, why bother putting Couture on "a history of fighters who have appeared in UFC and have also been pro wrestlers" list with such lame criteria? Also, this isn't the first time he's counted Randy Couture as participating in professional wrestling even though he really hasn't. I wonder how Pat Miletich feels about being on such a weird list just because he fought in RINGS, after it became a shoot.
  15. Luke Thomas just asked Meltzer on their Sunday night interview, "what's it going to take to get you on twitter?". Meltzer admitted that he should be on twitter and that its inevitable, but that he's way too busy to be on twitter.
  16. WWF also aired the Undertaker vs King Mabel casket match on WWF Superstars a few weeks after In Your House 5. So they aired three big matches from that same PPV a few weeks after it aired. I never heard about them wanting to air the entire Royal Rumble match, where did you hear that?
  17. I really wish there was more Negro Casas footage from the 1980's, he was fantastic in his match with Santo in 1987 and a trios where he teams up with Charles and Blue Panther against Dantes, Ciclon Ramirez, and Super Astro. Hearing Kurt Brown talk about Casas in the 80's makes me wish I had a time machine. Santo has three classic bouts which include two with Espanto and one with Casas. He also had some fun stuff like the tag team match where he teamed with Atlantis to face Fuerza Guerrera and Lobo Rubio in 1984. I don't think he would be a best worker in the world candidate, but I feel like if we had more footage of Emilio Charles Jr. in the 1980's, he would be more appreciated and respected.
  18. The shots to the post that Savage eats are absolutely brutal. Good match, but I wish it was longer
  19. So would guys from Mexico who toured the U.S. be in consideration for this topic? Someone like El Hijo Del Santo worked here in AAA shows and for hundreds of Hispanic-populated cities for regional U.S. promoters.
  20. Who else but Meltzer has seen that Magee match? I remember someone on DVDVR claiming to have seen it, but I can't recall who. Apparently, Bret really wanted to put it on his DVD set that WWE put out, but they didn't like the idea.
  21. I actually heard Dave say on an f3w show that he loved wtching Bret's matches between 1994-1996 in a way that he liked noone else's, that he brought an intensity to them that maybe only Misawa had so I' say that he is also a pretty big Bret fan. Meltzer has also praised Bret Hart's ability to carry workers, saying it was very different to the way Michaels or Flair would carry lesser workers. I remember during the whole Hart/Flair internet feud, Meltzer writing a long piece in the Observer, that basically ended with Meltzer saying that he felt that Hart was able to make you think a guy he was working with was actually better than he was as opposed to Flair (or Michaels) putting on their show and getting in their spots to "make up" for the lesser worker. I remember Meltzer using a corny line about Bret "being a magician in the ring" in regards to him being able to craft matches with lesser workers
  22. A few years ago, Lance Storm also got injured working with Mark Henry and Henry got the same bullshit blame from online fans as being a careless worker. On a F4W podcast, Storm went out of his way to say it was just an accident and Henry wasn't a careless/dangerous worker, it was just a case of bad luck. He wrote about how guilty and bad Mark felt and how much of a nice guy Mark actually is:
  23. Ah ok, thanks, my mistake.
  24. Wasn't this added to the WrestleMania X video that was played before the Bret Hart vs Yokozuna bout?
  25. I don't think it was mentioned here yet, but Shawn Michaels tearing the WWF Magazine (that features The Rockers) in half is such a great pro wrestling visual. Awesome angle. I want to show this to my older brother when I see him again, he'll dig this so much.
