Cactus Jack IWA Japan, January 8, 1995 pre match post match: looks like it was removed The most intense and believable promos Foley ever cut, completely in character. Pre-match sets up Cactus breaking away to surpass his mentor and it's the looniest shit imaginable. Funk is what the sport is all about and Cactus is going to prove the world he's at that level. Foley was great at drifting away into seemingly nonsense and the bringing it back in circle 8 fashion later during his ECW run, but this is more direct. Funk was his friend but tonight fire and barbed wire are his friends. Uses not just weapons but his injuries as a kind of prop to show he has nothing more to lose. Starts speaking in broken English for the Japanese. Just nutty and every other sentence he's just dropping bombs. "You can't take my heart because it's too big for you to carry." Post-match Cactus is back in the locker room with blood puddling on the floor. He collapses and smears it with his hands. Cactus looks up and tells the camera he only knows two words in Japanese: Itsu Demo (Anytime). When he points to the press taking pictures the tape hanging off his fingers looks like shredded flesh. The entire scene is absurd. Tells everyone he can be beaten but never stopped and smiles at the camera. There's no other feud you currently want to see more of before and after. And he's wearing a Funk shirt the whole time.

Also the most Meltzer paragraph in the entire thread.

Well the question was should she be in the HOF, and he was trying to put it as nicely as possible that while she deserves to be in, they can't because because let's say some kid who doesn't know who she is looks her up online they're gonna find porn and overdoses. Wouldn't the same happen with Sunny though? Sunny had never done porn movies. No but was a big part of Missy Hyatt's ViXXXens site. Recently she was offering skype chats for money. I never got a skype chat with her, but I'd assume she was naked. Not to mention her stalking of her ex. Trainwreck Sunny was not nearly as visible as trainwreck Chyna. If it was just the drugs or if she was ever say, a murder suspect, it might be a different story but specifically to HHH's point, you can't google Sunny fucking a HHH lookalike.

It was a good point, but revealed more about his ego than anything since that knowledge has rarely made any difference because RVD matches are about "showing off" and not "telling a story." Think that's the first time I've heard someone blow off tag wrestling, too because ah jeez, you gotta stand there on the apron. Also weird to hear that a lot people hold the Hayabusa/Shinzaki PPV tag in high regard since it's such an awkward match of miscues and table malfunctions. I remember them having much better spotfests with The Eliminators a few years before that. This was almost but not quite as bad as the last New Jack timeline for not being able to remembering anything well at all. He does great impersonations though.

Yeah, I don't think so but it would keep Reigns interesting wether or not he wins or loses by showing what he's willing to do for a title shot. Seems like another waste not to exploit Bryan's neck somehow, even if it's just so he can play possum or something to that effect.
-
Would be cool if they turned Reigns by having him go after Bryan's neck during the Rumble, at least.

Taker and Brock should under no circumstances have another match after how terrible the last one was. Best thing would've been for Brock to face someone else at Mania and during that match the lights go out, bell tolls, Taker interferes and costs him the match. Everyone's happy to see Taker one more time. Brock goes on to do whatever. But since they're turning him face...

Nakamura / Ibushi were the shit, most heated in-ring exhanges I've seen in the last year. This note about the entrance is cool, too: http://tapla.tumblr.com/post/107131246555/the-concept-of-shinsuke-nakamuras-entrance-at Sounded like a long night for Ross, but him and Striker did okay having to explain and sell the show with making exciting calls for the most part. One "car crash" line too many, maybe and the "Wrestle Kingdom moment" Striker tried to get over was lame but Ross's final swipe at Vince about never being ashamed of being a pro wrestling fan was perfect.

Not sure if it's the writing or just guys not being guided right or taking bad cues from Foley or HBK but watching Neville's opening promo on NXT... I would love for their to be a moratorium on wrestlers referring to their "performances" and "great matches." At least while on the show. He should be calling what they had a fight at the least. A battle, we went to war etc. No gravity behind it.

you should definitely check out the SCSA from a week back or so with the commentary for that match, too. -

The wrestling portion: Austin walking Vince through how the writing has mangled Cesaro in the eyes of the viewer and then getting hit with the "Listen to the audience" line was brutal Vince turning a question about why everything on his show is so convoluted now with some bullshit swimming pool stories and then getting Austin to follow his lead was masterful. Never felt jaded about Jake Roberts until after he came back from WCW washed up so what Vince said didn't really make sense to me. Was interesting that was the analogy though considering Stone Cold was "born" after finally burying Roberts. From there, you could imagine JR asking a lot of the same questions but it would be terrible to watch. -

What I thought was it would be interesting to hear Austin give his reasons for not going in to that on a future podcast. Okay, so everyone will keep giving Vince props for not dodging questions... -

As someone who probably wouldn't have passed a wellness test when wrestling, do you really think Austin was going to go down that road? Nah but I'm not gonna get all misty cuz Randy Savage's name was brought up instead either. i don't think anyone here got misty eyed about Savage but Austin's reaction was priceless. Anyway what else would you have asked him about? I would have asked for a live comment on the accusation that the concussion tests were a joke, that the medical staff is negligent. Not in those words. Gently, but something that would provoke something more human than the cut and paste style response sent to Yahoo. It's wrestling though so yeah, "good facial expressions." -

So hopefully Austin will talk about his reasons why he didn't bring up the fact an ex-superstar blew a hole through the Wellness Policy on a future podcast. -

wha? Did I miss something something at the start of the podcast because I have no idea why you assume Punk didn't come to him first when he was ready? Unless you just have a hard-on about Cabana. -

Willing to bet there was a lot of exaggeration throughout all of it as far as timing/communciation. Getting called back two weeks later, asking about the check for 2 months etc. -

No, I'm not "digging to find a story" - there's no "story" here because the veteran Mick quickly defused it - but Colt was kind of harsh IMO. Seemed unnecessary to me. I thought the exchange was worth pointing out because everyone always wonders why "asshole Punk" is best friends with "funny nice guy Colt." Well, at least in this instance, Colt seems like kind of self-righteous douche too. (I like Punk and Colt, but no need to nominate them for sainthood.) You don't "land" an interview with your own friend, which was the exact point being made at the end of the show about other wrestling personalities contacting Punk for their benefit. Foley didn't "difuse" anything, he owned up to mischaracterizing their relationship. The end. -

The funniest part about the Mayweather/boxing thing, which Meltzer mentioned on the show, was that no one even acknowledged who HHH was on air (a nobody compared to 50 Cent and Bieber) so it was pretty much pointless compared to the pop / hip factor Punk would have likely got for the company if they let him do it. -

Calling out Hunter on the piss test. That's great. -
Finally some good dirt.

Nope, he said Bam Bam was the one being negative, always saying that this and that guy had to go but everyone at the meeting had him on their list as a guy that should stay because he was a top guy and could go in the ring.

The Shane Helms YouShoot was horrible. Totally the wrong format to have him in. Really enjoyed Bret's, which was entertaining as much for the insight into match planning as it was for the eye-rolling moments. The worst probably when they got into the ladder match with Shawn and Razor. "It's the idea that's great, not the match."
