  1. Wow, THAT'S good heeling. Did he learn that from Roddy Piper?
  2. I normally do too, but that one through the table looked sick. I enjoyed the match a ton. I'm not saying it's Magnum/ Tully "I Quit"... but both guys worked hard and it was a ton of fun.
  3. I have no desire to electioneer. But I assume the major candidates are: 1) Some variation on stand up for the WWE. This is a year where Linda Mcmahon said "I might have met him once, but the WWE can be held no more accountable than the studio should be held accountable for Heath Ledger's death, who kows what causes people to have addictions?" Plus whatever other BS was being sold as part of the promotion's stand up for the WWE promotional propaganda... 2) Tna ran several concussion-sploitation angles. 3)The UFC told the PPV fans that Josh Koschek acting like a dick was just an act. I could see any of these three winning and will claim that a non-vote is a vote for #3. I was thinking "promotional tactic" as something to promote a match or fued, so the shitty McMahon/ Support WWE stuff doesn't work in that line of thinking. The TNA Concussion stuff is just sorta dumb, but it is being used to set up a match...so there's that. It's just that I don't find it "disgusting". To be truthful, it's the term "disgusting" that throws me off. Nothing in wrestling has ever made me go, "Oh my, that's just disgusting and terrible, I'm offended." I've rolled my eyes a million times, said to myself, "Wow, that's dumb or is dumb to say/ do.", but nothing has ever made me "disgusted". And yeah, the DVD Award is for commercial releases, but screw it.
  4. Going on about how awesome Dustin Rhodes was/is has been done, as far as just Goldust goes..I remember seeing the first vignette and saying to myself, "I think that's Dustin Rhodes...what the fuck is this?". I wasn't following wrestling as much as I had/ would at the time, and hadn't watched WCW in over a year or two outside of a Saturday Night show here and there. I hadn't seen an Observer in years, and was way out of any loop. At first I had the typical, "So Vince is making a guy do this stupid shit" reaction, but within a few more vignettes and then his debut, I thought Goldust was so awesome. The only thing I hated was his tights at first. For a glowing guy who was suppossed to look like a living Oscar statue they were drab, they looked liked faded yellow old tights. I also remember him doing the "Razor, I Want You" stuff and thinking, "Holy shit, this fucking rules."

  6. I actually have a subscription and I never vote. I think I'm gonna get off my duff and vote this year.
  7. The true surprise of this DVD set is the matches DVD. The Documentary is great, but since I'm a total Heenan fanboy, there wasn't much new to learn. But the matches DVD has some true gems, and really shows how great a wrestler he was. Lord Al Hayes vs. Heenan, Greg Gagne vs. Heenan, Hogan vs. Bockwinkel and Heenan, Heenan vs. Sal Bellomo...ALL really fucking great.
  8. I'll always remember going to the final wrestling show at the old Philly Civic Center. During the 80's, my pals and I were there for almost every Crockett show. They announced that WCW was going to run one last show there on May 18, 1996. It was about a few months before the NWO started. At the time, I hadn't been to a live show in many years, and my wife at the time said that I should go, and she'd come with me even though she basically just tolerated wrestling. We went, and the place looked so small to me, and it was only half full. Funny that a year later WCW would be selling out the Spectrum. We saw a show that had Benoit/ Eddie as the opener that made both me and my wife go "Holy shit.", an awful Wallstreet/ Duggan match, Nasty Boys vs. Public Enemy, Flair vs Savage with Bruno Sammartino as ref, Sting vs the Giant in the main event, Harlem Heat vs some team I don't recall, and some other matches. It was a blast, and I still smile when I remember that the place still smelled like stale beer, popcorn, and weed, just like it did when I was 16.
  9. Because Lieutenant Frank Monahan is a bumbler, but now that Quincy is apparently on the case they'll finally nail that Sullivan creep.
  10. I got it as an early Christmas present today, and it's a fun well produced dvd. They make it clear that it's not some "definative list", it's just a fun list of 49 guys and one woman. I like that Santino stayed in character, while Miz could be "the world's biggest wrestling fan" who'd be fun to watch wrestling with and Striker comes off as "the world's biggest wrestling fan" who'd be annoying to watch wrestling with.
  11. Morrison vs. Sheamus tonight ruled.
  12. Nice, thx. I never really got a good enough look at anyone but Hayes (and of course BamBam, but he's easy to spot). Did they bring those guys in for the movie? It's so weird to think of the Freebirds doing NYC in the 80's, but it sure seemed like a real show that the movie scenes were just filmed around. Really, it was just a couple of shots of Lambert in the crowd, I guess. It was from a Pro Wrestling USA card at the Meadowlands. For the movie they pretended it was MSG.Thanks to Kris, I think it was this show: PWUSA @ East Rutherford, NJ – Meadowlands – April 19, 1985 (10,000) Bobby Duncum d. Larry Sharpe Buck Zumhofe d. Steve Regal The Wild Samoans d. Steve O & Tom Zenk Hacksaw Duggan d. Kendo Nagasaki Jim Brunzell, Greg Gagne, & Tonga Kid fought The Fabulous Freebirds to a draw Ugandan Death: Kamala d. Sgt. Slaughter Bob Backlund d. Larry Zbyszko AWA World Heavyweight Title: Rick Martel © d. King Tonga AWA World Tag Titles: The Road Warriors © d. Curt & Larry Hennig
  13. BTW, that match in Highlander was the Freebirds vs. Tonga Kid, Greg Gagne, and Jim Brunzell.
  14. Which I found refreshing and honest, and didn't effect my enjoyment of the fight one bit. Dave, however is very upset that "kayfabe" was broken Oh, Dave. No one cares. No one thinks "Well there's Koschek with his eye so swollen he looks like a Doctor Who alien after a masterful athletic performance and ass-kicking from St. Pierre, but I'm upset that the hype was fake."
  15. edit:
  16. Make of this what you will, but the ongoing UFC Report was titled "UFC 124 live coverage from Montreal: Is Koscchek As Hated Tonight In Montreal As Shawn Micheals Was In 1997" to "UFC 124 live coverage from Montreal: One guy beat the other guy up and now we move on" after the show ended. Now, it's probably just a joke...but that really comes off as " UFC 124 live coverage from Montreal: Real Sports Happened"
  17. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy hearing people gush over great stuff they've never seen before(Although they shit all over Jimmy Valiant and to me that's a sign of wrestling dopiness). And yeah, that Starrcade VHS set was the tits. But now that it was brought up, how incredible was that Lords Of The Ring PWI tape? That was the first time I ever saw World Class, and it was just the coolest thing. AND it has the greatest Adrian Street promo of all time.

  19. I'm annoyed with people saying "Wrestling sucks cause everyone gets pushed equally with parity booking" and then saying "So and so continues to get buried" when a guy DOESN'T get wins. Pick a cliche for Christ's sake.
  20. Wasnt calling him one I just said he was acting like one. That's just precious. Anyway, after listening to the latest Bryan and Vinnie show, is it weird that they'd never seen the Piper/ Valentine dog collar match until the other day, or am I just old? I can't imagine being a wrestling fan, let alone "journalist", without having seen that. Granted, maybe it's an age thing but it just seems odd.
  21. When I first moved out here to Colorado 4 years ago, I remember talking to a guy I work with about wrestling. I was wondering why, basically, it wasn't as hot here as it was back in Jersey. He had nothing but childhood memories of the AWA and according to him people lost interest in wrestling because the AWA was always advertising people to be on shows who weren't there come showtime. I remember him mentioning Brody.
  22. That's not just funny, that's insane.
  23. Yup, and it's from The Philly Spectrum. And it's really good. I bought that tape when I was 14, it was the first WWF Videotape release along with Best of the WWF Vol. 1 and...I THINK... "Wrestling's Bloops, Bleeps, and Bodyslams" or something like that. It actually came with a small pamphlet explaining how to do lots of moves complete with diagrams. No shit. It was awesome.
  24. Hey, at least he thinks you're pretty.
  25. I remember that even when Kerry was only called "Texas Tornado" he still had "Kerry" written in glitter on his entrance robe. The whole early 90's WWF "Guys with no real names" thing annoyed me to no end back then.
