  1. 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs. The Quebecers (Raw, 1994.1.10) 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs. The Quebecers (MSG, 1994.1.17) So it turns out that Jannetty & The Kid make a great tag team and great foils for The Quebecers. This is the two title changes with the first one being a surprise upset on Raw and the second one with The Quebecers winning the belts back. The Raw match is amazing (*** 3/4) with a long shine sequence at the start, because Kid & Jannetty were underestimated. They even get a pin, but a second ref sees The Quebecer with his leg on the ropes. The Quebecers finally cheap and just destroy the Kid, until a hot tag which leads right to the win. The Macho Man loses his shit and leaves the announcer's table to celebrate. One week later they square off at MSG. It follows the same format with a long shine sequence and an extended FIP, but this time on Jannetty. Martry is really good in this role, but doesn't have quite the sympathy that The Kid has. He does take a hell of a 360 flip on a clothesline though. The extended FIP really made the crowd go insane for the hot tag. Kid does all his awesome kicks, only to get tripped by Johnny Polo on the top rope, stopping his momentum. Leading to The Quebecers using their finish for the win. I liked the Raw tag better, because the story made a little more sense that Kid & Jannetty caught Quebecers off guard. I'd say *** 1/2 for the rematch. A really good pair of matches though and I really wish that they kept The Kid with Jannetty for a little longer. They looked great as a tandem at the Survivor Series too.
  2. A few years ago Tampa Bay & Calgary were in the finals for the Stanley Cup (2004) and I was at the bar watching the game. In the pre game hype and they showed videos of Hogan and Bret Hart to hype up the hockey game. This was in Canada, so that explains some of it, but that was kind of crazy.
  3. Not yet, but I hope to get to it eventually. I am loving watching these matches back.
  4. Barry Horowitz & Reno Riggins are picked by The Quebecers for a title shot, however Riggins has the flu and The Kid fills in for him. The Quebecers remain very confident. Barry & The Kid show great fire at the beginning throwing dropkicks and firing up. The Quebecers have a conference to regroup and this starts a big FIP session on The Kid with their cool double teams. The Kid sells a great beating. So many cool double teams. Jacques finally misses a dive and The Kid gets in a kick. The Kid is really one of the best wrestlers at working in hope spots. Pierre interferes to keep the advantage and it looks like Jacques is out cold. The stretcher comes out to take Jacques away, so it's now a handicap match. A weird format here as the underdog tag team now have the advantage, so it may be even? A tag was made during the commercial break. As we come back Pierre is destroying Horowitz. Still confident he picks up Horiwitz at the two count. Pierre continues and throws Horiwitz into the corner to get The Kid in. The beat down continues on The Kid. Another great hope segment as The Kid hits a few spinning kicks, before missing one and his momentum carries him over the top rope to the floor. Johnny Polo throws The Kid into the ring for the pin. Another really fun match with Barry doing nothing and it being completely built on The Quebecers double teams and The Kid's selling and hope spots. I really enjoyed this one.
  5. Somebody posted Bastion Booger's theme on a loop for 10 hours on youtube. The world is a magically place.
  6. I had never seen this before, but damn was it awesome! It starts with the Kid doing a real fun shine sequence, including his dropkick after being thrown in the air. The real fun is Blake's killing of the Kid using a suplex into the turnbuckle, a gorilla press to the floor and an Oklahoma Stampede. He does a wicked strut too. The Kid is one of the best at doing hope spots. He is so sympathetic when working as the underdog babyface. It's a real treat to watch. The Kid starts his comeback when Blake misses a dive to the floor. The Kid does his own dive to the floor, a somersault from the top turnbuckle which just looks devastating. The Kid then wins with a flying legdrop. As good as a sub 8 minute TV match with no storyline as you'll see.
  7. I watched the bolded, plus select, matches from 2000 and here is my top 5: 1. Kawada & Fuchi vs Nagata & Iizuka, New Japan December 14th 2. Sasaki vs Kawada, New Japan October 9th 3. Kobashi vs Takayama, All Japan May 26th 4. Kawada vs Tenryu, All Japan October 28th 5. Ishikawa vs Murakami, Battlarts November 26th That tag match is amazing and is an all-time classic. I hadn't seen it since it happened, so it was a real treat to rediscover.
  8. That PPV match had me very emotionally into the Rhodes family winning. I was at the theater with a friend and I was almost yelling at the screen when the Shield was cheating. Same with the tag match from Raw. So yeah, I can still be emotionally connected even at 32 years old, it just depends on the wrestler and their current storyline.
  9. How did Bockwinkel vs. Larry fall to 32? I had it number 2 and it blew my mind.

Here is a question: which tag match was the better, the one from Battleground or from Raw? They were both really awesome for different reasons. I find it really hard to pick between the two.

  13. Here we are with my first card. WWF Monday Night Raw (1996/10/21 from Ft. Wayne, IN; War Memorial Coliseum) The show starts with the highlights of last night and a video hyping up Bret Hart's return and Mr. Perfect vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Hunter Hearst Helmsley is seen leaving Mr. Perfect's locker room and Perfect is seen lying on the ground holding is knee in agony. Jesse James & Bob Holly vs. The Smokin' Gunns. * During the match Bart Gunn accidently closthelined Billy Gunn, later on Billy walked out of the match, ending the Smokin' Gunns and leading to Holly & James picking up the victory. This is Jesse James & Bob Holly's debut as a tag team. Backstage Mankind & Paul Bearer & The Executioner are bragging about burying The Undertaker alive and claim you will never see him again. They hyped the Wild Card match at Survivor Series. Jim Ross conducted an in-ring interview with Gorilla Monsoon, Marc Mero, Sable, Mr. Perfect and Hunter Hearst Helmslehy in which Monsoon announced that Perfect was not cleared to wrestle tonight against Helmsley, but Perfect said Mero had volunteered to take his place in the match. Helmsley objected, saying he wasn't obligated to wrestle Mero and that he would only do so if the IC Title was on the line. Perfect then agreed on behalf of Mero that the title would be on the line and Monsoon allowed the match to take place. Sid vs. Davey Boy Smith w/Clarence Mason * Sid wins via DQ when Owen Hart interfered, after the match, Shawn Michaels made the save. Sunny is seen in the locker room watching the match. Jim Ross conducted an in-ring interview with Bret Hart in which he stated the only thing the WWF was misssing was him. 14. I wanted to throw my hat into fantasy booking, for some reason. Slabinski611 threw this out as an option in a thread and he allowed me to go with it. What if Randy Savage returned to the WWF at Survivor Series 1996? I know this was a rumour out there at the time, however I have no idea if it had any validity. However, I am going to run with it. I am not going to start at Survivor Series though, but start the night after Buried Alive. I am going to loosely follow events, but modify as I go. For reference here is the events of Buried Alive: In Your House "Buried Alive" - Indianapolis, IN - Market Square Arena - October 20, 1996 (9,649; 8,238 paid) Free for All - featured a backstage segment in which Ahmed Johnson was seen standing over an injured Farooq with a 2x4 in hand and several referees demanding Ahmed put down the weapon; the following weekend, WWF President Gorilla Monsoon announced he had suspended Ahmed Johnson pending an investigation into what exactly happened backstage: Barry Windham pinned Justin Bradshaw (w/ Uncle Zebakiah) Pay-per-view bouts - featured Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler, & Jim Ross on commentary; included Dok Hendrix conducting a backstage interview with the Smoking Gunns regarding their upcoming WWF Tag Team Title shot, during which Billy claimed Sunny would be back with him once they win the belts back; featured an in-ring promo by Ross, following the tag team title match, in which he claimed McMahon was trying to make him look bad and said he would have Bret Hart on Raw the next night; Ross then addressed McMahon and said if he wasn't going to give him a working mic then he would leave, with Ross then throwing the mic at McMahon and leaving ringside; included footage from the Free for All pre-show of backstage interviews with Farooq and Ahmed Johnson and of the lockerroom incident in which Ahmed was found standing over an injured Farooq with a 2x4; featured an ad for the WWF Hall of Fame, Nov. 16 at the Mariott Marquee in Times Square, and the Survivor Series the next day; included Jim Ross interrupting Dok Hendrix' backstage interview regarding his upcoming match with WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series: Steve Austin pinned Hunter Hearst Helmsley (sub. for Savio Vega) with the Stunner at 15:30; prior to the bout, Kevin Kelly conducted a backstage interview with Austin regarding Helmsley replacing Vega and Bret Hart returning the following night on Raw; mid-way through the match, Mr. Perfect appeared ringside to take Helmsley's valet backstage; after passing Austin on the floor, Austin confronted Perfect and later threw water in his face before backing off and Perfect leaving ringside with the valet; during the match, Jim Ross' audio went in and out, which he blamed on Vince McMahon WWF Tag Team Champions Davey Boy Smith & Owen Hart (w/ Clarance Mason) defeated the Smoking Gunns at 9:17 when Owen pinned Billy with a spin wheel kick after Smith stopped the challengers' attempt at the Sidewinder; during the bout, Sunny was shown watching the match backstage and, afterwards, applauding Smith & Hart's win WWF IC Champion Marc Mero (w/ Sable) pinned Goldust (w/ Marlena) (sub. for Farooq) with a Samoan Drop and Shooting Star Press at 11:37 after Mr. Perfect, who did guest commentary for the match, punched the challenger on the floor as the referee ordered Hunter Hearst Helmsley backstage when Helmsley appeared to confront Perfect at ringside; prior to the bout, the commentary team conducted an interview with Mero, backstage, about his facing Goldust instead of Farooq Psycho Sid pinned Vader (w/ Jim Cornette) with the chokeslam at 8:00 after ducking a clothesline; due to pre-match stipulations, Sid earned a world title shot against WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels the following month at Survivor Series; after the match, Michaels, who did guest commentary for the contest, and Sid had words and shook hands The Undertaker defeated Mankind (w/ Paul Bearer) in a Buried Alive match at 18:25; after the match, the Executioner attacked the Undertaker from behind with a shovel - with Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Justin Bradshaw, Goldust, Crush, Mankind, and the Executioner (Terry Gordy) then burying the Undertaker; as the show was about to go off the air, a lightning bolt shot down from the ceiling before the Undertaker's hand was seen coming out of the dirt (Terry Gordy's surprise return after a 12-year absence) (Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker) Dark matches after the show: Henry & Phinneas Godwinn defeated Marty Jannetty & Leif Cassidy WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels pinned Goldust (w/ Marlena) with the superkick after kissing the challenger on the lips
  15. The Mankind sit down interviews were done, because it worked so well with Goldust.
  16. A thousand times yes, please!
  17. I started doing this in September and completely forgot about this thread. I figured I had all my star ratings from the AWA set, I might as well make a list. It's pretty short, because I didn't add anything I haven't watched in a long time. However, it's a fun project to keep a spreadsheet of what you watched that is good.
  18. I've watched about 4 matches now and just realized that I stopped watching puro in 1999, so this is all new, outside of a few rare matches.
  19. Why not do it then? Hell, do it every year or 2. There will always be new footage popping up in circles such as this one, nevermind that tastes and opinions can change and evolve. No one should be wedded to prior rankings / votes. There are a bunch of guys regularly touted on PWO who I frankly have seen close to zero of. Perhaps that DQ's me from participating in the eyes of some, perhaps it doesn't. Ditto Matt D and the AJ crew. This is such a natural trigger for thinking and discussion that I don't see why it shouldn't be a regularly scheduled tradition. You know what would be good? Let's say we do this and we have a deadline of say 2015? Then we try to sight and sound it and do it every 10 years (I can't believe I've been around the dvdr community for 14 years already, so a list in two years and every ten years is not that insane).
  20. When Dave told me about this episode a week ago, I was excited. It didn't dissapoint, a great episode. Loved the lists and discussions. I like the idea of doing another pool, although I would need a LOT of time to rewatch. I can do a top ten right now, good idea Parv. Of course, this would change a lot with watching some of the sets I missed and other footage. 1. Stan Hansen 2. Terry Funk 3. Rey Mysterio, Jr. 4. Jerry Lawler 5. Genichiro Tenryu 6. Negro Casas 7. Bret Hart 8. Ric Flair 9. Steven Regal 10. Randy Savage With these four fighting to get on the list. Eddie Guerrero Nick Bockwinkel Toshiaki Kawada Tatsumi Fujinami
  21. I'm not so big into puro, especially post 97, however I downloaded the spreadsheet and I am going to start watching some things. To start I am going to watch every Tenryu match. Then I am going to watch every Koji Kanemoto match and keep going like that with my favourites. Hopefully I get through enough to toss out a ballot.
  22. I love Savage-Hart from SNME in 87.
  23. I haven't seen much of Buddy outside of his Backlund and AWA matches, so I won't vote. However, I do want to comment on Bockwinkel, because I think old man babyface Bockwinkel is one of my new favourite wrestlers. I had his match with Larry Z number 2 and his match with Stan Hansen at number 6 on the AWA set. As great as he was as a heel, him as a clever former heel babyface was just so great.
  24. I was talking to Dave Musgrave before the show started and I mentioned how I was more excited for Goldust-Cody vs. Shield than any match in a long time and boy did it deliver. From Goldust's paint being beyound awesome to the locker room emptying to celebrate the whole thing was just perfect. Goldust proved he is still one of the best in the world, which was great to see. I echo the statements that he may be one of the greatest tag wrestlers ever. His punches and powerslam are some of the best ever as well. Worth the price of the whole show. Main event was going real well until the "finish".

    House shows

WWF @ Brockville, Ontario - Memorial Centre - May 26, 1993 Tatanka defeated Razor Ramon Doink the Clown defeated Crush Owen Hart defeated Terry Taylor The Undertaker defeated Giant Gonzalez WWF Tag Team Champions Ted Dibiase & IRS defeated Rick & Scott Steiner This was my first live experience and I was 12 years old, so of course this was awesome. I do Remember Money Inc. vs. Steiner Brothers being pretty good though. Outside of that Taker's entrance was really good. I've seen a Smackdown, a few house shows, SummerSlam 2004 and a bunch of house shows, but I think my favourite was a few weeks ago when I saw Goldust vs. Randy Orton live on Raw. That match had such a feeling and was so great to watch.
