Kanemaru is not a guy that is very popular in the "IWC", to say the least.

Wasn't Shamrock close to Bret? I think Shamrock trained with Bret in early 97.

Thanks, fixed. Mutoh vs. Tenryu (6/8/01) is wrong as well.

Financially I guess it wasn't: It drew the second lowest buyrate of the year (Slamboree was a bit lower) and one of the lowest in WCW history. I remember the whole thing just beeing so uneven: on the one hand you had the really different feel of the show (production wise etc.), on the other hand there were these endless Miss nWo segments, a pretty bad show wrestling wise and a bad crowd. The WCW guys getting screwed was almost comical, but I guess that was the whole premise of the show. It might have been better if they did a nWo Clash of the Champions followed by a normal WCW PPV instead of the other way around like they did.

The pieces seem coming together for Barely Legal. Maybe they are even peaking too early, but let's wait.- 7 replies

[1997-01-25-USWA-TV] Flash Flanagan update / PG-13 promo
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
PG 13 are so awesome. If they came along ten years earlier, they would have gone much further in the business. Is the guy interviewing Flash Sr. later OVW announcer Dean Hill? -
I assume that they cleared the bathroom before the match as I would guess that they planned to fight there beforehand (which might not be the case for the Bash one).

[1997-01-21-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXIV] Ultimo Dragon vs Dean Malenko
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
I think that was the biggest problem with Dragon's WCW run. He is just too used to work as a face (and Malenko as a heel) that the psychology often was backwards.- 13 replies

[1997-01-20-AJW-Zenjo Perfection] Kyoko Inoue vs Takako Inoue

Was Takako knocked out here (or forgot to kick-out) or did the ref just forget what the finish was?- 14 replies

I'll give this one a try. The link for Akiyama vs. Kobashi (12/13/00) in the Excel file is wrong as is Kobashi vs. Takayama (5/26/00) and Akiyama vs. Kobashi (8/6/00).

Back in 97 I thought they screwed up the elimination order a bit and "Diesel" was supposed to be eliminated before Austin, but watching this back it is obvious that he is there for Bret to be distracted. I guess the rationale for having a final four instead of a final five is that Jacobs was eliminated by Bret and not by Austin.

[1997-01-18-WWF-Shotgun Saturday Night] Steve Austin and Terry Funk
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
In this case "never" lasted longer than the average Terry Funk retirement. Had they any immediate plans for Funk back then? I would suppose not with Funk being ECW bound at that point, but still. I remember reading in Foley's first book that he suggested a hardcore series against Funk, but I think that was 98, not 97.- 13 replies

Wasn't Vince angry with Funk with some of the stuff he said here? I thought I remember reading something like that.- 13 replies

[1997-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World in Tokyo Dome] Super Liger vs Koji Kanemoto
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
Could you post the song list somewhere in the 96 forum? Then I can check if I am just really horrible in recognizing songs or if 96 US radio is that much different to 96 Austrian radio.- 15 replies

That song got me a good laugh. Let's see if this is the only song in this set I will recognize (96 began with Macarena and after that I knew almost no songs at all).- 15 replies

[1997-01-13-WWF-Raw] Sid promo / Interview: Shawn Michaels
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
Shawn's a bad face promo, as a heel we was usually pretty effective (might be reflective of his real-life personality ).I have to agree with the assessment that Sid's promos are carrying the fued at this point. Shawn did not seem interrested at this feud anyway, maybe he was already looking past that at a Bret Hart fued.- 13 replies

I am a bit surprised that Marlena taking off her top is not on the set as I think that is the most memorable thing on the first Shotgun episode.- 10 replies
