I would like to have Owen vs. Vader on the set because Owen working as a hot face underdog versus a big heavyweight is pretty unique (at least for his WWF run). And it's not as if it is a very long match (15 minutes tops, I would guess).

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Is DVDVR now gone for good? I think that is the first time that even the main page is not working anymore. -
If you want to have a NJ junior hv. match I would use a match including Ohtani as he is one of the Japanese wrestlers that is the easiest to get. Something like Ohtani vs. Liger (3/96) or maybe one of the Tajiri matches would be perfect. Bryan Danielson bending Jack Evans in ways the human body was not ment to be bent should also fit the bill quite nicely (Surival of the Fittest 2004, I think).

Over here in Austria I am not sure that for a 30+ year old watching wrestling is socially more acceptable than being into scat porn.

The same. Same here. When friends or co-workers or so in conversations make some vague wrestling references I even pretend that I don't know what the hell they are talking about.

At least for some people in the action movie genre their success highly depended on the appearance (or their reputation) that they are for real. This definitely includes people like Bruce Lee, Mr. T or Chuck Norris. I mean even people like Bruce Willis or Sylvester Stallone at their high point were so consistently doing the same roles over and over that by doing that they were giving the appearance that they are John McClane or Rocky Balboa / John Rambo.

[1996-12-11-FMW-Year End Sensation] Megumi Kudo vs Shinobu Kandori

This and the last FMW match display one of the two things I hate most about Japanese announcing: announcing completely lifeless as if they are talking about a Golf tournament or so (the other thing being teenage bimbos giggling into the microphone).- 10 replies

[1996-12-10-ECW-TV] Interview: Raven / Raven vs Sandman highlights
Robert S replied to Loss's topic in December 1996
"Come Out And Play" was a strange choice for Raven's entrance music. They should have given him something much darker. Something like the Nine Inch Nails original of Hurt would fit much better to the Raven character.- 5 replies

Is it just me or do all these 10 men matches end with Dick Togo getting the fall after his top rope senton?

There were some points in this match that were really hard to watch, and the "cunnilingus piledriver" is not at the top of the list. I don't like the "face kisses heel valet" spot to begin with, but Dreamer groping Francine's lady parts and later thrusting his pelvis in her face are a whole different ballgame.

Yakushiji looked like a proto-Toryumon wrestler here, a bit like Dragon Kid or Yoshino. With the death wish he displayed with the crazy dive it's no wonder we was not around after 2000. Everytime I watch one of this Kaientai vs. M-Pro Sekigun I hardly remember anything that Funaki does. Is he that bland or is this Lucharesu style just not his forte?

Any plans for the final show(s)?

Well, it's 1944, so what do you expect?

Because everyone can relate to being an executive and having their office destroyed. Just when I think WWE can't get more out of touch ... It's like Austin vs. McMahon with McMahon being the face.

The money for Linda's senate runs came out of the personal pockets of the McMahons not from the WWE's cash reserve, right?

There are other non-Brits on the list. From the names I recognize Axel Dieter is German, Franz Van Buyten is Belgian and René Lasartesse is Swiss.

I am too lazy to read through the whole discussion but from what I have read my feeling is that you are mixing up Paul Heyman the booker and Paul Heyman the promoter. I was always under the impression that Paul Heyman the ECW booker was a success while Paul Heyman the ECW promoter was a failure. As a booker he created (for what he had to work with) unproportional high interest and buzz in the wrestlers and the product was a whole while as a promoter he did not manage to make being the number 3 promotion in the US profitable.

Regarding the DeBeers discussion at the end: wasn't there some South African actor doing the manager role for the Truth Commission before Callis?

Pretty informative show. Now I know who's mum Flair was banging, who's mum used to be stripper and I got to see Col. Sanders / Spencer Tracy and Freddie Mercury. My ranking of the matches would be: Wahoo McDaniel vs. Curt Hennig (Indian Strap Match) (11/28/87) Nick Bockwinkel vs. Larry Zbyszko (7/11/87) Bill Dundee & Jerry Lawler vs. Original Midnight Express (10/30/87) Wahoo McDaniel vs. Curt Hennig (9/12/87) Wahoo McDaniel vs. Boris Zuhkov (Russian Chain Match) (8/29/87) Curt Hennig vs. Mitch Snow (10/30/87) Midnight Rockers vs. Kevin Kelly & Nick Kiniski (12/27/87) Curt Hennig vs. DJ Petersen (8/29/87)

In-house training alone is not enough. If you take a talented guy and train him for five years in Florida he probably would not be good enough as someone who just spent the first and last year in Florida and the remaining time travels all around the world wrestling with different people doing different styles. To rephrase it: I don't think Bryan Danielson would be anything close what he is today if he spent 2001-2009 in OVW, Deep South and FCW.

Maybe depushed isn't the right word. Less in focus might be more accurate. In 96 he was in the long feud with Taker, which was one of the top programs of the year, plus had the IYH main event with Michaels. In the first half of 97 he only had the Taker IYH main event, which was more about Taker and Bearer. Apart from that he was pretty invisible until the 3 faces of Foley thing and the Triple H feud. Or at least that is how I remember it.

Foley was in such a great physical shape at that point of his career. Strange how de-pushed he got in 97.

Usually these things are too late for me (living in Europe). Today when I came home from work I wanted to download #10 and was surprised to see that there was a show live at that time. Anyway I really like to listen to these shows because they motivate we to continue watching now instead of putting it on the shelve.
