The problem is the history of UK wrestling hasn't been recorded, there very little known about any UK based wrestler. The latest wrestling observer with the history piece on Jerry Lawler is a case in point. Could any of the UK historians write a piece on on any UK wrestler, as in-depth as the piece done on Lawler was.

I think one of the big problem’s is, who are the UK wrestling Historians, correct me if I'm wrong, but how many have actually followed the scene though the 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s. I would guess most of them are in their mid 30’s and their knowledge amounts to reading dynamite’s book, the wrestling by Simon Garfield and watching repeat’s of world of sport on the wrestling channel.

The wrestling heritage site make’s reference to Shirley Crabtree early career, where he wrestled as the blond Adonis, Mr universe, Yukon Eric, and the Battling Guardsman. He was also the independent promoters British heavyweight Champion in the early 1960’s. I cant find any more info on his early career, but it look’s like he had two runs in wrestling. It may help his case if we could find more info on his first run.

But the matches' are the same quality whether you know the wrestler's opinions or not. In the quote you gave "Rock 'n' Roll, Terry Taylor, and Ted Dibiase taught me that in Mid South, and Buddy Rose taught both Mary and me that in the AWA" So do you have a lower respect for Dibiase, Tayor, Rock 'n' Roll and Rose because they taught Shawn the wrong way, according to how you view wrestling should be.

Page 136, Heartbreak & Tragedy: The Shawn Michaels story. That mindset pretty much misses completely the idea of a role, that it'll take more to knock down Andre than Ray Rougeau, that the heel tag champs should be protected in a different way than the Conquistadors, and that them falling down matters to the match way more when the babyfaces have to earn it. That having an exciting match doesn't necessarily mean you have a GOOD match. So those are Shawn's thoughts and my problems with them. That I think Demos gave very well in that match and very smartly and that it was an exciting match with more meaning and resonance than a lot of other Rockers matches from the era is really beyond the point. Ok your highlighting your problems with Shawn, because of his opinions he's expressed in a book. A book according to most accounts he had very little to do with, so who knows how much of it are his word's or not. Even if those are his thought's and you disagree with his view's. Um what does that have to do with this thread about where he would land in your top hundred. Shawn's backstage politics and antics and view's on his own matches should have nothing to do with how we view his in ring work. Also you know he is allowed to have his own opinion's, just because you disagree it doesn't make you opinions more valid or his less valid. Don't forget there's more than one way to work a match and every worker's going to have different opinions on what's the best way to work.

As i'm part of the reason why this thread is here, i thought i bring my thoughts over from the shawn thread. Agree disagree, this is going to be my only post on thread. I'm not going to waste anymore time watching Kane matches, Life is way too short. I thought i better outline what i liked about the Kane vs. Michaels match. Now let me make it absolutely clear, that in no way do i think this is a great match. The truth is, i hate Kane as a wrestler, and his whole gimmick of an unstoppable monster. It bores me whenever i see him wrestling, or whatever it is he trying to do in the ring. So when he wrestled Michaels and had an fast paced give and take match, i found it that much more enjoyable than the normal Kane snooze fest. Also there were some cool spot's in the match, like the back flip out of the corner in to the jumping ddt. Kane killing Michaels outside with the table and Shawn running in to the big boot when he's trying to do the super kick. The big complaint seems to be Michaels chops in the match, now i never understood the issue with them. He working within the WWF/E frame, the fan's react to them and if you can get the fans to react without killing your opponent isn't that a bonus. Why chop like Genichiro Tenryu if you don't have to? The fans watching don't care and i bet Kane isn't saying, gee you didn't make my chest bleed tonight next time hit me harder Shawn. So that's the basic reason i like the match, not love it but like it.

But in terms of volume of quality he is well below a lot of people, including people with shorter careers. But that argument also go's to the guys and gals in japan, who also are put in a position to have great matches and it's not brought up as a negative against Misawa and co. Volume of quality is an interesting point, as compared to Bret Hart and Vader his volume i would suggest, blows there's away. he also kept up a higher level than most for over 26 years which must count in his favour. I thought Shawn was average to bad from the time of his comeback forward so I totally disagree with you there. I am not a huge Bret fan and actually like Vader less than some here. Both have a higher volume of good matches and are - I think - inarguably more versatile than Shawn. I don't know i've been looking back at bret's run, i'm up to 1995 and there's lot of good matches' but not that many great matches' on my list. Looking forward i'm guessing there's only about 4 more great matches to go on for his list.

Ok that's fair, as for the write up, cut the match's you don't think that belong and if i disagree i do do a write up for it's inclusion. As there's a lot of matches on that list, and that's with out the AWA stuff. Other parameter's which need to be addressed is only matches which are available to watch, and not for example Andre mythical matches, were he was german suplexed by Danny Hodge in japan in the early 70's.

Well lets get a few things straight dummy. The SHAWN MATCH IS FUCKING AWFUL. Okay see I could of found some legit shitty Kane matches and shoved them in there. The Shane Mcmahon matches were better than that shitty ass Shawn Micheals match. But lets do this. WRONG The match told a good story with good selling from both men. Oh and Vader's shit looks like it hurts. No dummy, I actually watch matches instead of waiting for Scott Keith star ratings. Kane put in a great performance playing Spike Dudley for Big Show. They actually tell a good story about Kane being overpowered and out monstered for the first time. Also they actually look like they are hurting each other. As opposed to a balding, gimpy pretty boy throwing awful looking chops for twenty minutes as Kane tries to sell it. Shit I don't like a single other Kane vs Show match. They usually have terrible chemistry working against each other. But this match is damn good. But then again I watched it. Summerslam 1999 Or maybe I actually watched the match. Which is a very good short TV match with Viscera hitting some nice power spots on Kane and then bumping big for the chokeslam. Of course I actually watched the match. Its a million times better since the offense looks good and Kane selling for Finlay does not look ridiculous. Far better since Mankind makes Kane look like an actual monster, while getting himself over. As opposed to forcing a monster to sell for shitty limp wristed chops. Which makes both matches far better than the Shawn match, which is awful. One of the worst matches either Kane or Shawn have ever had. As for the remaining five. I'm disregarding your opinion completely for just tossing away the backlash 08 match like that. It's great. That you come off like a rude jerk for no reason doesn't help. Seriously read through this note from start to bottom and really take a look at why people are saying what they're saying. It could just be that you look at wrestling differently than a lot of us do. But you're just listing off matches or dismissing them with a few words. Wasn't one of the big arguments in this note that we SHOULD push Shawn with great matches, because if we break him down with things he does well and things he does poorly, it doesn't look nearly as good on paper as if you look at his "great matches?" Um as 'Dr. Reverend Victator' didn't put any reasons why theses matches were better than the the Shawn match. I didn't feel i had to go in-depth on why i disagreed with his choices, and i choose to answer in joke form. I am not not crazy high on Sting, though I do think he was a good worker. Still if you are going to include a lot of those Shawn matches it is hard to see any legit argument for eliminating something like Sting v. Flair from the first Clash. There's no reason not to list it if you are listing all his match's, but by itself it doesn't add to his case. That's why i asked for a list of his work, so you can get an overview of his career and see if he is really better or not.

Yes the vader/Sting matches are great, and the Meng match is fun to good at best. I'm not saying Sting hasn't been in a lot of enjoyable matches. But when talking about the top 100, you need to have a lot higher output of classic matches. I just don't think in my option that Sting's best is as good as Michaels best, add to that Michaels just has a higher level of good matches than sting.

Pick any match vs. Vader. There better than Michaels. I love the Sing/Vader feud, but better than Michaels best against Foley, Taker, Benoit (wrestlemania) the Summerslam ladder match, i just don't see it. Also my point is, ok sting has had some great matches. But he need's a great wrestler to bring the best out of him, he's not a great wrestler who brings the best out of others. Also how many classic matches has sing had, you got Vader but who else. The Flair match's are average at best, um im drawing a blank here, the tag againt the Steiners?

The kane match is only really on here as an example of a good Kane match, not a great classic match. As Kane is notorious for being in bad matches for most of his career. I thought it would highlight Shawn's ability, to carry someone of limited ability to a watchable contest. I don't think there anything wrong with the Kennedy match's, but i do concede if they were took of the list, they wouldn't be missed. I didn't list all his ppv match's, only the match's that are good, or have a point to make.

I won't argue where Shawn should be on a top 100, but looking at some of the names people have rated above him. It just seems to be grab a wrestler with a good reputation and puting them on the list above him. With no thought giving over to why they better. I haven't done a full list, (If i've missed any good single matches, please add) as i left out most of his WWF tag matches and his AWA run, but i've put all his good to to great matches in his WWF/WWE run. When rating wrestlers on work rate, i guess the best way to rate them is on the matches that you watched or seen live. It would be interesting to see match listing for the following wrestlers, as i just don't see how they can rate above shawn on the matches available for them.
