  1. This was one of my least favorite Flair for the Golds actually and where Flair looked really old being compared as contemporaries to these overweight, retired wrestlers barbing at each other.
  2. This was better than the skits for sure. The Flair vs. Windham pull aparts have been real good and it is a shame that the injury plagued the match so much.
  3. The heel turn from Lee was predictable but well done and feels like something that was really needed. Now, Smothers has a new opponent to face as well.
  4. Short clip on Fargo that they would roll out periodically. Effective, but nothing we havent seen before. The promo Lawler gives here is up there with Hard Times and on the short list of best promos of the 90's. Just tremendous stuff and it is amazing how he becomes sympathetic.
  5. Monsoon really looks out of place here in 1993 with that maroon blazer. Anyway, we get a recap of a wild week on the house show circuit as the tag titles keep changing hands and this is a reason to check out WWF action if it is near year. With DiBiase breaking down, this was effective.
  6. Pretty funny stuff of Gilbert parading around as the King of PHiladelphia. I expect Lawler to cut a promo on him on the next USWA episode.
  7. Fun stuff with a beatdown, a splat, and Kid still getting the upper hand while not pinning Razor again. Effective and memorable feud overall. *1/2
  8. What an awesome match with multi layers. Chain wrestling, body control, high flying, reversal of a decision, and some great commentary. This really mixes in NWA style wrestling with WWF storytelling and presentation in a way that few matches have done in their history especially around this time. Doink with all of his hijinks was awesome but he really worked over that leg and Marty was game to sell it. Fairly easily the best Raw match so far. ****
  9. I enjoyed Tenryu and Hashimoto taking more of a conservative approach in the early goings but it annoyed me here based on the billing that this would be a fight unlike seen before. Once things spilled out to the crowd and the blood started flowing, this picked up but it was the weakest of the chain matches we have seen so far this year. Still, quite the accomplishment that we have gotten 3 very good of those type of matches in a calendar year. ***1/2
  10. This didn't do a whole lot from me as the pull apart at the Clash was much more affective with in ring action. Rude shilling the CD was the highlight overall.
  11. This did feel very rushed and Parker and Flair felt like they were ready to be on to other things. Flair offering a challenge to Windham was a rare nice touch. I have defended Flair for the Gold but now that Ric is wrestling, it is time to retire this segment.
  12. I have not thought WCW has been that bad so far this year as stuff has been spread out on the suckage but with all of this coming to a head and these two things being on the same show, it is tough to defend. This is all a shame as I really did like what was done at the Clash. This was pointless and does nothing but make the city of Cleveland look like a heel.
  13. Man I am going to have to think long and hard whether Black Scorpion, Oz, or this is the worst wrestle crap I have seen. There was so much bad and corny here. That boat that Vader and Sid show up on is ridiculous as well as Sid's flips flops. Wrestle Crap in its finest.
  14. Odd stuff given everything we see from New Jack for the rest of the decade.
  15. This was so effective. Lawler saying he never called himself the Macho Man is just the type of warped logic that actually makes sense and was critical for the angle to work like it did. Genius work here by the King.
  16. This wasn't the match I really expected but it was great nonetheless and more about these two aces not wanting to make a cardinal mistake and representing their brand. The opening was tentative but gave way to some nasty strikes. The work on Tenryu's leg was super effective and carried the middle of the match where he would have to overcome the odds. That leads right to the finish were everything was maximized and Tenryu winning at the end being a definitive finish. ****1/4
  17. Very good match but it didn't totally click with me due to Fuyuki here not having the charisma and facials that he does in some of his later stuff. I enjoyed seeing him work the mat a bit but Hase did feel pretty outclassed which seemed odd. The final run was dramatic and had an up for grabs feeling to everything. Really solid undercard outing. ***1/2
  18. I do wish the Blondes would have gotten a fall and it is ludicrous that they were blamed for this. However, the match itself is really good of what we see and I see none of Flair being old. In fact, I thought all four had definite highlights. Flair doing his strut, immediate eye rake, flying forearm! and being a c razed loon was great. The Blondes were also excellent stooging and bumping their ass off. Arn sold his leg like you knew he could. I really think the Blondes pinning Arn and winning the third fall with some miscommunication among Horseman could have made this a low end MOTYC for me. The crowd was hot and very pro Horseman which made Flair's return feel like a big deal. Poor Roma was just not going to work and I think the appropriate move by this point would have been a flip between him and someone else. ***1/2
  19. This match was great. First off, I have critiqued Jesse a bit in the past few weeks but he was fantastic here. He got over the strategies of Scorpio that could be success while also poking fun at him and Norfolk. Tony engages his quips with a usual one liner but the focus remains on the match. Barry worked over Scorpio well with just a plethora of offense. This was all a set up for the big Scorpio comeback and even though I knew the result, I was still glued and excited watching the dive and roll up near fall. BW is able to compose himself, hit his great implant DDT and pick up the well earned victory. Matches like this is why NWA/WCW is one of my favorite promotions of all time. ****
  20. We get the final sell job for a match that has been hyped up quite a bit. This was a good promo by Eddie but not one that will be in his top 25 of all time or anything. Still, I am excited to finally see the match between these two.
  21. Excited to see what you think of the desert storm match when you get there
  22. I liked this more than everyone else as while Sasuke isn't at the level he was in say 1994, I have still enjoyed his 96 output. Eddy has really blossomed into someone that gives me a really good match almost every time out. I was surprised actually by the finish here given the finish of the BOSJ that we just saw but it does build up a lot of intrigue for the J-Crown overall. ***1/2
  23. Liger's strut was awesome. A really good match that was just needing a little bit of more competitiveness to enter the great range. Still, what we get here is a load of fun and some of the most memorable stuff of 1996 in ring. Togo looks really good and hits his big bumps when he needs too. Liger is a superstar giving Togo some stuff but making sure the crowd knows who the ace is. A blast to watch. ***3/4
  24. I like both of these guys a good bit going through the 90's but this felt like their touring style showcase match and was a little light on the matwork and storytelling that they both can deliver on. There were some really pretty spots especially Taka's springboard but that was the lasting impression overall. A good match but a disappointing one and not one with a lot of depth. ***
  25. Awesome bump and moment. Things are really picking up steam now and a nice touch at the end with TOny leaving the booth and Dream for once being speechless. A great angle that has built and built.
