  1. Really good match and made me hopeful for the Busa in 1999. Kuroda didn't fully focus on the leg for all that long which was good as Busa was able to do his flashy stuff in the finishing sequence without any annoyance from me. I also thought his arm work was surprisingly good. This match had some things that usually annoy me (long running clothesline and chairs being piled) that actually felt pretty organic and natural here. The FMW I watched before the set was pretty fantastic and this was just a taste of what is to come. (***1/2)
  2. Decent match but I am still waiting on these two to really click. I did like the commentary bits and Rock Bottom through the table of this one. The finish is deservedly memorable as the roof completely blows when Austin's music hits. What a great moment where Austin remains the Guy but Mick is the champ bringing everything full circle. Such contrast to Nitro. (**3/4)
  3. Shawn gets attacked. I have always loved the visual of the snow falling on his bloody body on top of the car.
  4. So much better than the WCW stuff at changing the plan. Mick stretching Shane's and getting Vince to plead gave him so vulnerability that was nice to see. HHH taking the win was also a nice step in the direction of his character.
  5. Really great seeing Mr. McMahon work with Vince here as Vince does a great job in burying him on the surface but actually getting the fans to rally against him. I love seeing Mick in this role and how his plight has evolved over the past year.

  7. If Goldberg winning the belt on 7/6 was the height of that fandom, this was my first battle with the low points as the company I loved shattered and confused me just a few rows from where I had gotten hoarse chanting Goldberg's name. This was incredibly stupid and costly. I would stick it out with WCW until BATB 00 but this was the day my fandom was damaged and you can only look in the steep decline between this and their return to the Dome on 7/5 to see I wasn't the only one. Definitely will be the worst match of the year. (DUD)
  8. Finally, Liz's story is in shambles and Goldberg wants to go to the DOME.
  9. Hogan saying this is his retirement match did get people to care somewhat about the match but he hadn't been gone long enough for us to really desire to see Hogan back.
  10. IBAKA GYM I would think Liz could keep a story this simple straight and have a strict game plan ahead of time. The white cop gets more frisky with his accusations hurled at Liz.
  11. Crowd live was not happy at this change as it felt like a deliberate bait and switch effort on the part of WCW and Nash vs. Hogan was not something of great interest.
  12. I like this vignette and it is a shame about Eddy's accident. Zoo Enthusiast this is for you.
  13. Goldberg was not cut out for this and even though he was really young in the business at this time, this is where he should have put his foot down. Goldberg gets really good reactions after this night, but I don't think he was ever Da Man again.
  14. I liked this segment from Flair and it killed live as we get him sending Bischoff to the announce booth and set up an intriguing PPV match in a upper mid card role. The stuff with Anderson was weird though. Bischoff in the announce booth is one of the highlights of the night and as much shit as Tony gets for his call about Foley (some deservedly so, he does great here instructing Bischoff how to do this).
  15. This seems like one of the more nondescript 1/4 shows especially with this headlining. I remember reading the PWI and being shocked that Norton was in this spot. Anyway, Muto makes short work of him in the finishing stretch here with a moonsault and figure four.
  16. I thought this was a good and a glance at that HOF canidate caliber tag team, TenKozy. Koshinaka has looked fine in his later year stuff but this was all about the moments when Tenryu was in there and he still showed he could really go and work a crowd. Tenzan and Kojima both had nice runs on offense and their flurry at the end was particularly inspired and what was needed for a title change and momentum shift to the young guys. Good stuff. (***1/4)
  17. Agree in the this sucked camp for the finish. There were stretches of good punches and a frantic pace but overall the match didn't really come together like the Ogawa stuff in 98 did at times. The finish seemed pretty dumb and really reflected the doldrums of New Japan for me which honestly didn't pick up again until just a few years ago. Poor Hashimoto deserved better. (**1/2)
  18. Clips looked fine. I have been surprised by how much I have enjoyed Takaiwa as I always thought he was by far the glaring weak link when watching junior stuff many years ago. Ditto Ka Shin who still isn't great but he hasn't been horrible in the stuff weve seen. Match looked pretty fun but ultimately not that meaty. Dr. Wagner had a good run in New Japan.
  19. They are presenting Bill to be the heel here but he looks more like Eddie Marlin. This segment was kind of cute but even Bill's delusional mind couldn't think he was close to the wrestler of the decade.
  20. Alright, time to party like its 1999. We start the year off in PPW with a lot of what was going on in 1998. Long-ish studio matches that are fine but not really groundbreaking. The Christopher vs. Lawler feud hasn't excited me in the least. The thing I liked most about this match was Stacey interaction either getting the refs attention or being spit at. Stasiak gives a fireball that would make Hulk at Havoc 98 blush. We have our barometer of what a decent if inconsequential match in 1999 looks like. (**)
  21. This. After hearing Dave talk about these uncovered gems that were not really rare at all, I am less interested in seeing the dead end that seems to be his VHS being converted or sorted through.
  22. This was a me, you and Johnny P match Will. I look forward to watching it again but echo tim. thoughts on first watch too.
  23. I was really engaged by Flair in the early going. Cheating when he had to. Laser like focus on the arm and enough variations to keep it interesting for me throughout. Bret was fine but his main job was to play hurt and occasionally get some hope spots. All of the table setting seemed to be done by Flair and I was completely engaged. Bret his a good flurry of punches but Flair is able to take him down with an atomic drop. Bret counteracting Flair’s offense with the figure four was an interesting strategy which was crowd pleasing so it worked to me. I liked Flair showing off the variations of escaping the figure four as he didn’t just result in reaching the ropes. Bret counteracting Flair’s offense with the figure four was an interesting strategy which was crowd pleasing so it worked to me. I liked Flair showing off the variations of escaping the figure four as he didn’t just result in reaching the ropes. Flair gets more desperate sending Bret to the outside, but Bret remains relentless with his strategy. You can see Flair start to lose it more and more and he ends up losing his focus and dropping the first fall on a roll up. Tremendous stuff. With Bret now on top, his strategy shifts into more wear down holds and stuff to run out the clock while hoping to obtain a fall as a bonus. Flair senses this and quits dicking around by going for the leg. I love the feeling that we are halfway through and the time has flew by for me. Flair attacks the leg with his good precision. It is neat to see Bobby doing interference allowing Flair to get in some added offense with a chair. Hebner sends Bobby to the back in a good crowd pleasing spot halfway through. Flair clinches in the figure four and with a little help of the ropes, we get a submission victory for him. Huzzah. If something works, go back to the well so Flair does the same thing again to go up 2-1. This was incredible and I thought put the figure four over as huge. Bret needs to regroup as his leg is severely damaged. He goes to the outside and gathers his bearings but Flair meets him as he comes in to inflict more punishment. Great spot as Bret desperately reaches for the ropes to avoid the figure four but Flair synchs it in. He then however gets caught finally using his trusty tactic and is forced to break. Forty five minutes in, Bret shows some signs of life and gets a great flurry of punches but has to stop based on the leg pain. Now we get Flair’s signature spots with the flop, flip and dive off the top. The backslide Charles mentioned was tremendous and once again Flair gets desperate with his thumb to the eye. Flair going for the sleeper now is a good callback to what Bret did earlier when he had the advantage. Flair takes the ram into the corner like a champ. Flair being a gambler, tries a top rope dive one more time and gets caught. Bret mounts his comeback and goes through his series of moves to set up the Sharpshooter. Flair submits to some great heat and we are all tied up with around five minutes to go. Hennan sneaks in and hands Flair some knuckles before getting booted again by Hebner. I loved the build up to the foreign object shot and Bret takes a great bump off of it. Flair covers him and Bret narrowly kicks out to another fantastic near fall. Flair gets on the figure four again but this time Bret is able to reach the ropes. Flair sends Bret to the outside and you can feel his uncontrolled rage. Moon shot rollup gets a nearfall for Bret. Flair stomping around looking like a castle mad man about to lose his castle is outstanding. He drags Bret into the middle of the ring and goes for the figure four, but Bret is resourceful and able to roll him up right in the nick of time. This was one of the better hour long matches I have ever seen and built up some outstanding narratives throughout the sixty minutes. I thought the arm work was fine as a lead in and did lead to the strategy shifts that would happen later on in the match. I watched this match alongside a ton of great 80’s lucha and it stood out the most with me. (****1/2)
  24. Our first great match of 1993! I loved the way this was work with both Barry and Ricky being nasty going after the arm. The way Barry sells the damage is excellent as he keeps ringing his arm out. The bump Windham took flying out to the railing was about as natural as that could possibly look. The finish was cheap on the surface but resulted in a great brawl to set up a lot of stuff for the future. (****)
  25. Up close is becoming one of my favorite WCW segments. Vader gives a good background on how he has been a winner all his life both on the gridiron and now in the ring.
