The perfect big man 11 minute match. DDP looks amped up coming out which is great and inspiring. I loved the way this was worked in that Goldberg had to bring out some tricks and DDP wouldn't give up and also was resourceful. Him hitting the diamond cutter definitely felt like the most trouble Goldberg has been in. I also thought Goldberg being unable to use the Jackhammer initially was a nice touch. Big time main event done well. ***1/2

Have no problems with the ladder being used as violently and inventively as possible in the ladder matches. For any stipulation, I want to see it used and have meaning. If that changes the confines of what the psychology I think a match should take, then I am the one who needs to shift around my parameters and acknowledge that the gimmick was done to an optimum level.

[1998-10-25-WCW-Halloween Havoc] Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1998
Sad to watch. This may of honestly had at times and glimpses better work than the WM 6 match but no where near the atmosphere. Also, Warrior was much more inconsistent and everything they tried to raise the stakes on the hate backfired. Horace ends up helping his Uncle win the match. Blood, fireballs, a swerve, ref bump..... yeah this was overbooked. DUD- 4 replies

I thought this was a good way to write Sting off and I have actually forgotten that he disappeared here. The action looked pretty good with Bret targeting the head after Sting hits the post on the splash. Bret gets in some bat shots and Sting does an admirable stretcher job.

Nash squashes Hall and gives him the crotch chop and leaves because he was so disgusted at him.- 4 replies

[1998-10-25-WCW-Halloween Havoc] Rick Steiner vs The Giant & Scott Steiner
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1998
Impressive missile dropkick from Giant. I really hated all of this. NOthing made sense and enough of the Buff swerves. Rick ends up winning the tag titles by himself.- 6 replies

Rex King is as Memphis B team heel as you can get. Good studio match and Hales needed a new charge to get behind. The aftermath here was glorious though with Hales dragging Stacy to the dumpster, Baxter jumping out and going nuts and Dundee getting involved. We even get a shoving match between Dundee and Lawler which was awesome. (**)

Fuck the way they clip this up as this looked damn good. Samurai seemed game and hit a beautiful dive and missile dropkick. I also loved his selling of the first palm strike as if to tell LIger that they young boy shit wasn't going to work against him. Liger comes out looking strong and gaining legend status. Tons of fun.

I really hate the clip style this carries. Otani and Kanemoto should be teamed up IMO as they disdain and attitude works better together than doing mirror spots against each other. Kashin has actually looked pretty impressive in the snippets we have seen in 98 which is quite a surprise.

Misawa and Kobashi both have underlings as partners here. I do love seeing how protective Misawa is of his partner in these types of matches. While some could consider that he is making them look weak, I see it more as a protection mode. Anyway, KObashi is looking pretty unstoppable at the moment and is even able to pull out something new in his arsenal to put Misawa away here in the Burning Hammer.

I love title match lucha when done correctly and this was great stuff. Mixing of holds seemlessly into one another and working towards an escalation finish. Olimpico is a guy that has been creeping around for a while and someone I haven't paid much attention to but he was pretty awesome here. Flashy, but effective and getting the crowd around him. This was his first main event in Arena Mexico according to what I read so this was an impressive feat. I actually really loved the foul finish and the way it was executed based on how sporty the match previous to the foul was. (****1/4)

Malenko has the Four Horseman emblem on his tights now. He cuts a pretty heated promo and then invites the rest of the gang out. They don't have a lot of consequence to say here but it is still refreshing to see Flair again and he feels really relaxed and in his element.

Kyoko is on the downside of her career. This mixed in some good stuff but also a big feeling of been there and done that. I didn't think there was near enough desperation at times throughout. Say what you will about All Japan but backdrops on the floor and other high impact moves were merely small transitions in this one. Kyoko getting an extending finishing sequence against Aja and putting her away was a surprising result. I did think the match was good for most of the time but I was hoping for a lot more. (**3/4)

We all know what the payoff is to this. Vince pisses his pants and we get a Bang 3:16. Overall, this Raw was troubling. We have seen more influence in elaborate contractions and story long narratives. This is a direct correlation to Russo gaining more power. The first weeks with the hospital attack and cement in the convertible were cute and innovative but this felt more like a crash tv angle. This was the worst Austin has looked since the 3;16 crapper stuff that was in a down period. I am fearful of where the company is headed from an entertainment standpoint. WWF in 1998 has been invigorating based not as much on in ring action (though it has shined there when needed in big moments) but on the rise of the top of the card and the interplay between Austin and McMahon. The product throughout the year hasn't been flawless whether it was Val Venis or the depush of Owen but the top line stuff kept it moving forward. Now, this Raw felt like a shift in direction and I am interested to see how much that persists in the week ahead.

They wanted to make this a show long narrative but you shouldn't feel any sympathy for Vince here and you are starting to feel that way. Vince put Austin in his in a predicament at Judgement Day but him firing Austin was justified based on those predisposed stipulations. This really gets drawn out with deliverance call backs, Vince squealing like a pig, and him having to predict a winner in the upcoming Kane vs. Taker match.

[1998-10-19-WWF-Raw] Tiger Ali Singh and The Godfather
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1998
A woman deep throats a keibelsa. Godfather lets Tiger know this could have been done for a lot less than $500. I am starting to get uneasy on the direction of the company. -
We learn that Austin has the cops back and Vince is feeling even more uneasy than before.

Mark uses his legal rights to arrest Chyna. Yippee.

This wasn't the best use of DX to display them as cutting edge. HHH getting injured seemed to take a lot of the wind out of their sails as a collective whole.

[1998-10-19-WWF-Raw] Vince McMahon, Jerry Brisco and Pat Patterson
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1998
Vince is understandably a little uneasy about the situation with Austin here with a firearm. -
This Nitro was good until this turd. The Horace stuff was brutal and it was sad that Warrior came out to almost no reaction and then gets beat up. They keep trying to talk about how crazy Hogan is but it reeks of desperation and IMO overacting on his part. Thankfully only one more week of this storyline.
