I would recommend the 1/4/09 Tokyo Dome tag Misawa is in for old Misawa utilizing a more less is more approach. Anyway, Misawa is another #1 contender for me. It is really tough to be the guy for that long and no reinvent yourself that much over. Misawa tried to forego that moniker but the crowd demanded they go back to him from time to time. Now, Misawa was at times protective of his role for sure, but I think he gave a lot as an ace and still was able to have absolutely spectacular matches with a vast majority of opponents up until his untimely death.

Ditto the post for Elliott. Hansen is also flirting with my #1. I love the versatility Hansen shows throughout his career. You look at him with his bull rope and spitting tobacco and think of him as a simpleton, no nonsense worker. However, a lot of care and thought was clearly put into his matches at times. We don't have the benefit of many Funk NWA title defenses but that is something I would like to see and a reason I will put Hansen above Funk. Need Hansen to wrestle competitive series of matches with Inoki: Check Need Hansen to be a bullish heel challenging Bruno and having some fun brawls with Backlund: Check Need Hansen to lead a green as fuck Vader to a great, story oriented featured match in AWA: Check Need Hansen play top gaijin spoiler to the aces of the All Japan promotion (Jumbo & Misawa): Check Need Hansen to have spectacle matches that feel like they belong in a comic book: Check (Vs. Andre) Need Hansen to show vulnerability by getting his ribs worked over: Check I don't even know what I would put forth as Hansen's best match or feud, he has a lot of contenders. I could possibly see his biggest weakness is that times he had some disappointing matches (some of the Jumbo ones, 3/95 vs. Kawada) but that seems really minscule and nit - picky and applies to everyone else.

Besides two WCW matches (Morton vs. Flair which you liked on WTBBP and Zenk/Pillman vs. MX which you were less high on) the only two matches I had from March in my top 100 was Azteca vs. Dandy (interested in your thoughts as I don't know what you will think) and Estrada vs. Satanico (can see this being up your alley).

I have been accused of being tough on Mick Foley and not all of his segments have been home runs in 1998 (Love Shack) but when they have delivered, they have REALLY delivered. This was super with Mick being down on his luck and feeling like a employee that did everything he could to please his boss and that wasn't met with any gratitude. Mick plays this perfect as he is not whiny or an ass kisser. Vince is also amazing in his role and just completely off the rails after what happened at Over the Edge. One of the best Raw segments of the year and often forgotten.

This whole angle feels like a strong argument to the "crowd can't be wrong" group. Wolfpac keeps getting great pops and this monumental moments like Luger and Sting joining are met with huge reactions, but the damage is extremely detrimental and when the patron goes home after the show, they realize that a lot of this shit just doesn't add up. I was blurred in 1998 and was going crazy for Sting joining the Wolfpac but man do I hate it now and when I think back on 1998, it isn't like I bought any more PPV's as a result and when I went to the 7/6/98 Nitro, whos merch did I buy? Goldberg.

I had this on par with the first match up. They did cut a more deliberate pace here which was kind of jarring watching these matches in quick succession. I appreciated Benoit giving more offense to Booker in this one but having more dynamic comebacks which is something you would associate with the flashier offense of Booker on the surface. Good commentary work and continuity when Benoit his a German but couldn't hold onto the bridge. The drama for the crossface finish was also well done and Booker will have to amount a heroic comeback to win the overall series. (***)

Wow, this was great. Everything from the sign to the explaining at the homeless was hilarious. Jericho even does his own research by going through rule books at the LIbrary of Congress. He needs to talk to Charles, Kelly and Grimmas about this. Jericho gets pissed in the arena that JJ doesn't come out and craps on Sting and other heroes of the fans. Jericho is still producing awesome stuff.

Chavo submits to goad out Eddy. I think this kind of went over the crowd's head as Eddy says he has some great news and they don't have to wrestle anymore but Chavo is still game. Fun stuff.

Wolfpac music debuted at Thunder and TOny tells us to pipe down so we can hear it here. I like that Larry still isn't on board and talks like the announcers should have been. Luger talks for most of this and it is again another plea for Sting but it also sets up tonights main event. I agree that Savage is a non-factor now.

This is my MOTY up to this point and I have no problem with someone calling this a top 10 WWF match of the 90's. This is the culmination of all the storytelling they have done the past couple of months and everything felt like a glove. The match escalated up from a general title match into pure mayhem once it spilled outside and Patterson kept changing the stipulation. Of course the finish is memorable but everything is done so well from all the pops for Vince getting smashed with the chair, Patterson and Brisco getting chokeslammed into the tables and Austin making his own count with the crowd counting along and JR yelling "you damn right." This did result in some lazy main events for years to come, but as a stand alone match, this was booked perfectly to me. (****1/2)

The unmasking was so dumb here, like we don't know what Vader looks like. Anyway, Vader does a nice moonsault and goes up for the Tombstone well. After the match, Vader tells us he is a fat piece of shit and storms off.

I loved this. Mero gives a heartfelt speech and then lays down for Sable to pin him. Of course he reverses that and Sable is gone from the WWF to a big pop from the crowd before the ramifications sink in. (DUD)

They worked this one more like a sprint as it only went 7 minutes or so but was still good stuff for that timeframe. I don't know how much into the taping this match was as the crowd was dead for it. I also thought the ending was abrupt as Benoit wins with a German. Probably the worst match of the series. (**1/2)

Bret Hart gives his pleas to Sting and I am definitely checked out on all of this. A big brawl ensues as the show closes.

Well this was a lot of fun that makes a disc memorable even if the match was merely good. The slam spot was the only time I kind of checked out. Everything else from the dance off to Big Don getting pushed down, I marked huge for. Glad to see this feud and the FBI being a consistent force in the ECW tag ranks. (***)

Really perplexing that they felt forced to make this move. The scene was dramatic for the change. (*)

Bummer with the abrupt finish as something seemed off throughout like Childs said. Tough match to rate as a result. (*1/2)

I am glad we at least got more than half of this and it looks great. I understand some of the criticism of Otani not growing but like Kawada going back to the well against Misawa I can appreciate that same approach that has brought the individuals so much success before. Nadal doesn't drastically change his strategy just because he is up against Federer. Anyway, we need this in full but it looked spectacular again and for sure a great match with what we saw.

I liked this better than the Nitro match and thought it escalated well. Benoit pushed the pace and kept things interesting. Booker looked good in his comeback and finished it off with a big missile dropkick to even things up. On to Saturday Night. (***1/2)

Luger saying that he didn't turn his back on WCW is ridiculous. Even more so, is the announcers campaigning for Sting to join the Wolfpac. I hate this shit.

I like when Tony interviews Jericho as he has such disdain for him. Jericho continues the Conspiracy Victim gimmick and is on a march to DC to right this wrong.
-
Seriously Parv, I thought you coming around on Dory Funk JR. of all people would open you up to enjoying shoot style. I adore that match.

I want to reiterate that untaped matches will never be elgible for this. That is a rule I am firm on.

Addressing a couple things here. I feel that there isn't one set criteria for how you vote and how much you weigh in drawing ability, historical significance, etc. I can see doing a ballot based strictly on the quality of the match and expect there to be nominations available if you go that route probably generated by individuals with a like mind. However, I know my list will have a mixture of certain elements. If asked to do an All Japan ballot right now based on workrate, I could safely write down 6/3/94, 6/9/95, 12/6/96, 1/20/97 and 6/5/89 and be done with it. Using other criteria, something like 6/8/90 might sneak into my final ballot and I am a lot less assured of what the ballot will look like. I think there is room for both Hulk vs. Andre and Han vs. Tamura in an overall wrestling matches HOF as the criteria isn't as strict as the WON HOF ballot for someone to get in on work alone. I agree that the narrowing of the regions is critical to the success of the project. Don't be surprised if a few people get some PM"s over the next few days.
