  1. I don't have an account at wc but just to clarify, did Yohe vote for Nagata because he enjoyed his work in the 2014 G-1?
  2. That is the internal debate I am open to. I see the merit that judging Backlund vs. Valentine with Angle vs. Brock is a bit unfair and may have individuals that overly prefer one era over the other one. On the other hand, I want this thing to have legs and the tough choices between matches with a limited amount of votes is a lot of fun. Do I give Garvin vs. Flair a vote over the worst Flair vs. Steamboat match? These are the debates I find intriguing when compiling a final list.
  3. I thought Busa was fine in this showing his flash and then getting the f out of the way. This set the stage for a beautifully laid out match with Tanaka taking a beating and weapons being intersperesed with southern tag dynamic. The finishing run was rewarding to get so much drama and intrigue out of such little stuff like a clothesline and a elbow from the top. I have a soft spot for Fuyuki and his execution was actually not awful here to go along with his dynamic charisma. One of the better FMW matches of the year so far for me. (****)
  4. I do have this slightly below their 1997 series, but damn it was still great. I did get the table setting aspects of this in the early going and the match picked up big time for me when Ishikawa went for the armbar. The attack by Ikeda was nothing short of vicious and I cringed multiple times watching. Him winning with a knockout blow seemed highly appropriate. I can watch these two wrestle every day and they are starting to become a late running strong contender for fued of the decade. (****1/4)
  5. Agreed that this was a pleasant surprise for me and a nice mixture of junior speed with stiff strikes. Tanaka did get a good showing in this and Mochizuki is someone I have never given much thought to but had a good showing too. A great little 15 minute match to end the disc on. (***1/4)
  6. I love King saying "HEY VINCE!" when he gets in the ring. Taker chokeslamming Vince was huge and got a big pop but it kind of showed his cards for what would happen at the PPV. The chairshot Dude takes was nasty and if it was me, I would have reversed last weeks and this weeks ending angles.
  7. I didn't think this action was great but I did see some signs of light both based on how Rock/HHH were presenting themselves and the work between the matches. Faarooq's piledriver was disgusting as Rock's head bounced right off the ramp.
  8. They really milked the stip for Over the Edge for all it was worth and Vince gives a heartfelt tribute of Pat. I loved the clips of him crying at the HOF dinner.
  9. My question is how compartmentalized everyon thinks this should be. For instance should the NWA/WCW bucket have two eras with nominated matches, pre Crockett buyout/post or even more areas than that?
  10. I have no problem with 10 years either as the cutoff and was debatinng between that and 5 years myself.
  11. I wanted to start this topic since it won’t derail the Greatest Wrestler of All Time Project thread (another worthy project that I will be participating in). Anyway, I want to create a pro wrestling match hall of fame. I think the scope of this could be dwindled where if you don’t want to vote for a certain region, you don’t have to. Here is how I envision the project being worked out but I am open to any suggestions. Timeframe: I think October – November is a good time frame to run this every year. It comes off the heels of the WON HOF vote, is a down period for modern wrestling usually, and is right before the year end lists and rewatching for MOTY ramps up. Matches Eligible for Nomination: I do see value in watching past matches. Hindsight and other factors can blur the significance of a match over time. Historically, I think it is safe to say that the “greatest” matches have stood the test of time. For that reason, I don’t think any match that occurred on or after October 1, 2009 should be eligible for nomination. Region Breakdown: This is where I think something like this is a lot of fun. I will use Scott and Justin from Place to Be as an example. I respect their WWF/WCW opinions and know they have watched a vast majority of footage form these two promotions over the years. I also know that they are not inclined to sit down and watch a lot of Joshi and CMLL from the 1980’s. For this reason, a match HOF would allow them to have a voice in selecting the matches to advance for WWF/WCW but abstaining in other areas that are not of interest. To use myself, I would abstain from the Great Britain region due to a lack of knowledge/watching. Beyond just a WWF or Japan regions, I see sub regions for even more focus. For Instance, the WWF would have WWWF, Backlund era, Rock N Wrestling, New Generation, Attitude, Ruthless Aggressions, PG Era all as defined eras of nominated matches. Backlund matwork bores you? Then don’t vote in that defined era. Similarly, Japan could be broken down into joshi, shoot style, Kings Road, etc. Nomination Process: In order for a match to be nominated, footage of said match must exist. Hypothetically, I will set up the forums once all the parameters are set into stone. Then, each poster can nominate a match. A match CANNOT be voted for the HOF unless it has been nominated. I don’t think it is too much to ask for someone to throw out 4-5 sentences of why Hulk vs. Andre should be in the Matches HOF. From there certain discussion of that match can be hashed out. I am iffy on requiring a specific number of YES votes for a match to get on the ballot. Voting Criteria: This is the area that I think is the most subjective and unlike the GOAT poll. I welcome the individual voter to decide what components make a match “great” whether it is the crowd that was drawn, crowd heat, historical significance, strictly workrate, etc. In addition, I think it is fair that every voter rewatches the amount of nominated matches again before making their final list. Without being rude, I don’t want any “I remember” being stated when votes come into question. I also would like to limit the amount of matches you can vote for in each reason causing the voter to really go out on a limb for particular matches. I look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks as this is something that I think could be really fun and sustainable throughout the years.
  12. This was pretty funny to me. i especially liked the bickering on who would take over and Road Dogg legit cracking up Gunn by calling him Rocakbilly. We get some writing over the Evansville arena from DX.
  13. Vince says the fun stops tonight and books Taker vs. Austin to a huge pop and delight from Lawler.
  14. The Oddities feels like a distinctive 1998 thing. So much for that big Golga push huh?
  15. Little wrinkles are distinguishing these apart but Im still digging them.
  16. Yeah, the legality didn't sit too well with me and I could have done without the kick to McMahon within the confines of what was going on but this was a lot of fun up to that point and McMahon sold his anger for all it was worth as the handcuffs were being put on him.
  17. Did anyone else in our little circle besides Dylan get a vote this year that previously haven't? I'm so confused by the changes that I have sort of checked out on the process already and am looking forward to podcast output / long articles on contenders at this point.
  18. I'm conflicted. I always want to have as wide a scope as possible. However, I also think for a project of this magnitude, giving at least a cursory look at workers and countries you don't normally watch should be expected. For myself, I already know WOS and 80s joshi are targets.
  19. I always thought Farmer was pretty poor and Giant doesn't care about him as he doesnt even try to make the save as Sting wins with the Death Drop. Afterwards, Wolfpac comes out and offers Sting a shirt. The show goes off the air with Sting holding the shirt and Tony losing his mind.
  20. I am really looking forward to rewatching this series as Benoit has been great in 1998 so far. This is such a smart concept and I'm baffled why it isn't utilized more. What an easy way to build up some intrigue for the network by having a best of seven culminate on Main Event. Anyway, this was a good opening match with each person setting the table but going for some big moves to gain the early advantage in the series. I especially liked Booker going for the Harlem Hangover and Benoit taking full advantage of clinching in the crossface for the win. Good start here. (***)
  21. Kanyon explains his actions and why he has thrown the Mortis gimmick behind. This was produced in a weird manner.
  22. Jericho taps out Dandy and calls out JJ. The insulting turned into butt kissing was great. Jericho is a wordsmith with his words and JJ plays his part well. Jericho returns to shitting on JJ when he is denied his request. Good stuff.
  23. I agree with Loss that this is a cool moment that as a 12 year old, I dug but looking back on it now, it doesn't make a lot of long terms sense and further dilutes the issues. Savage and Luger are presumably ok after wanting to kill each other 3 months earlier.
  24. This didnt get as much time as the previous studio matches. Diamond and Lawler have some solid sequences and Baxter and Stacy are relied on for comedy spots. TOny Falk runs in with the worst tights I have ever seen even topping those atrocious Quack tights from earlier. A big brawl closes out the show with the entire roster duking it out. (*1/2)
  25. What a crowd as they went to the break and gave King the Emmy acceptance speech treatment. Weird interview that really was used for Jerry to hit on Stacy.
