  1. I'm higher on this than anyone else as I thought it was pretty great and Tenryu's kicks to Hara's shoulder were straight up nasty. I also enjoyed Hara not backing down and throwing Tenryu around ringside in response. The aftermath with Haku/Yatsu was dumb but this was my favorite Tenryu SWS singles match so far this year.
  2. Tony seems as shocked as anyone that Rick thinks he can beat Lex. Rick's voice drives me up the fn wall in this promo and Luger talking down to him doesn't work at all. Sad as Luger was looking good coming off the Simmons program.
  3. I really enjoyed this interview to set up a face vs. face match vs. Jarrett that I would love to see around this time. The parallel of art leading him to wrestling is even better. Inspiring stuff at this point in the year after the lackluster BJT feud.
  4. Really fun studio action as they cut a good pace and threw haymakers at each other. Finish also worked well with Tony Falk distracting Tom but Embry putting him away with a good DDT.
  5. Fairly random segment for the yearbook but I enjoyed the Beverely's hugging each other after their attack.
  6. Completely done with this. I will give Sarge his country back if he will shut the fuck up.
  7. I am not a crowd guy but at points in the opening minute, I had to check to make sure the volume was turned up. It was that quiet. That is kind of a shame because the work was good to me and this match was solid all around. I enjoyed bob's back kicks and him waking up the crowd with his suplex throws.
  8. Anjo vs. Tamura was good. Everything else made my mind wander and with the tag structure it was just a sequence of restarts and subdued action.
  9. Norton being added was a plus for me to see someone different from Scott. I think it also reigned in Rick's goofy tendencies with the barking and crawling under Scott's legs and made him more of a prick heel yelling at Hase on the apron. The comeback and timing of Muto along with the finish really built up well and had the crowd in the frenzy. One of my favorite Rick Steiner performances of all time.
  10. You said a lot more over which feels like a wider gap than #1 to #2. Steamboat feels too straight laced babyface to ever really be the guy. Backlund is the only guy at top that I can think of that was as generic as a face and showed as little edge as Steamboat did and he still has the Texas Death match stuff with Patera to fall back on. I think Steamboat even more than Dustin is hindered by his look and the landscape of what the top guys of the 90's would look like. Dustin is taller than Austin was.
  11. Did this thread take a time warp to 2011 "sting should be in the WON HOF" Parv. I think as we work towards the 1991-1994 shows, that Dustin is not far off from Sting at points getting great reactions from the crowd.
  12. Ethnic Georgian's is a gimmick that may have some legs to it. This was fun to finish up to today given what happened on Monday night.
  13. This felt big but they really milked the opening to the extreme in them doing minimal stuff. The body also felt flat with Hashimoto working over Choshu for a while before he starts clotheslining him continuously and then picks up the win. Disappointed.
  14. I cringed every time I heard Tendoo. This is your #1 wrestling personality of all time Parv? Bobby has his rice and sweater on and actually looks like he knows what he is doing with the chopsticks. He of course gets the rice dumped on his head to a big pop from the audience and SWS gets namedropped on WWF television.
  15. 6-man titles on the line. I love Dustin's music so much. Fun match with Big Josh seeming more motivated than usual and Rich clowning around. Something about Morton cheating brings a smile to my face as well. Finish with the reversal of fortune for the heels was a lot of fun.
  16. I agree that the Hoga/Flair/Taker/Piper overlap was too much and made this whole period seem more scattered than it needed to be. Hogan says he needs God to help beat Taker at Survivor Series. Standard promo from the Hulkster here.
  17. Man this is a real surprising contender for worst angle of the year. I love sarge but this shit is just annoying and drags on and on.
  18. I had forgotten that Warrior did these before Macho. Pretty over excited yelling stuff.
  19. The storyline developing in this match was really cool of Wilkins needing to get close to Flynn to take him down and work him over on the mat, but with him closing the distance he was exposed to Flynn's kicks. They did well in showing how Wilkins could dominate in the moments he got close. The escapes felt logical when not using the ropes as Flynn relied on his height/reach advantage to get back to a standing base. I also really liked Wilkins heel hook attempt after the first slam of the match and the desperation Flynn had. The finish was pretty anticlimactic as Wilkins didn't sell the TKo too well but this is a sneaky top 100 MOTYC for me.
  20. Shamrock is not the ideal first opponent for Shawn after SSeries but the face side is pretty weak overall right. Shawn gives a complete lip service promo putting himself over and erasing a lot of doubt of how sympathetic he was to what happened to Bret.
  21. I thought Shawn had the DX music here. We do get the backstage walk through and there is a certain tension in the air. This really feels like the merging of the New Generation and the attitude era with the set and old WWF logo compared to the attitude getting displayed. Shawn gets splashed with a drink on his way to the ring and just soaks it all in. Bret's face has such of look of let me get this over with. He has to walk a mile to get to gorilla and feels like he is already disconnected from the rest of the company. BreTT Hart #1 Canadian sign made me smile. The work here plays up the intensity and animosity between the two. The finish is what it is and has been analyzed to death and I still am firmly in the camp that Bret didn't know shit based on rewatching this again. The match is very interesting to discuss due to it being overlooked to the watershed moment.
  22. Owen works diligently to DQ'd. They really worked the match around Austin and he still wasn't ready to come back health wise. Surprised they ended up doing it at this show in hostile territory. Furnas and Lafon get some stunners in the post match.
  23. Really excited to see this spliced in. We get clips of Sunny talking with Bret's wife Julie. The head bangers throwing around his children. This is really surreal to see given the plight of 1997 and the rear viewed mirror aspect I have now 17 years later. Watching live, you had such an adrenaline rush as to what the hell was going on, now you can analyze the psychological aspects more and see the toll this took on most parties involved. Ill give Vince this, he has a good poker face during his clip and seems smooth during his discussion with Bret.
  24. Really unheralded tag series that is fantastic to watch in succession. The leg work on Sasuke was so much better after seeing the previous match and I love how good of a partner Delphin is trying to prevent things from happening to him. The end run is full of action and the crowd has a buzz to it with them continuously trying to isolate Sasuke's leg and him fighting through.
  25. All three guys get a chance to say their peace in the same promo style with a dark background. This was effective and I have liked the Douglas stuff we have seen in 1997.
