[1991-09-29-WCW-Main Event] Steve Austin vs Big Josh
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
I didn't like this very much. Tony solo on commentary is weird and he keeps building up to the Josh dropkick. The work here was fine but very rudimentary and the match never seemed to kick into an extra gear.- 7 replies

[1991-09-30-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Hulk Hogan in the studio
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
The Suburban Commmando gear makes it way into the Prime Time Studio. The mime scene is shown and Bobby acts frightened. Hulk seemed a little off his game here.- 5 replies

[1991-09-28-WCW-Saturday Night] Richard Morton vs Brian Pillman
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Dumb finish aside, I really dug this match. It was worked with a nice pace and Morton was showing off his heel mannerisms to perfection. PIllman continues to be amazingly sympathetic.- 6 replies

Cactus has his tone down now and is interspersing in some of the more memorable psychological sayings from his repertoire. Been a fun ride seeing him come into his own as a promo.

[1991-09-28-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Barry Windham

Weird situation for Windham right now feeling like a bridge but not really having a true stake in anything overly important.- 7 replies

[1991-09-28-WWF-Superstars] Ric Flair and Roddy Piper
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
I somehow didn't recall this but this was fantastic. 1991 WWF really has some fantastic out of the box angles. Flair decking McMahon gave this an extra sense of urgency. Really skyrocketed the Piper vs. Flair feud IMO.- 10 replies

[1991-09-28-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Jake Roberts
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Jake handling the cobra really sets off this whole scene for me. Dark, eerie stuff. -
WM 26 has one great match IMO (Taker vs. Shawn II). That is counteracted by one straight up atrocious match. The rest features a lot of decent to good stuff (Edge vs. Jericho, Batista vs. Cena, HHH vs. Sheamus) but also some lesser stuff (weakest MITB IMO, Punk vs. Rey got cut short). Still a good to very good show overall but I couldn't put a WM that had the worst WM match of all time in my top 25%.

[1991-09-26-UWFi-Moving On] Nobuhiko Takada vs Bob Backlund

Nothing as we get a minute of action with Backlund showing aggression then suffering an ill-fated injury.- 13 replies

[1991-09-26-UWFi-Moving On] Kazuo Yamazaki vs Yoji Anjo
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Inoffensive but nothing I could remember within an hour and the match didn't really have an overlying theme to make it memorable. -
This was one of my favorite matches by Onita just based on the gravity everything was played up. The staredown was epic and the first count felt as dramatic as the last and I don't mean that as a knock. This was an emotional fifteen minute ride with Onita receiving a ton of punishment and firing back like only he can. Really super stuff.

That Omni tag again looks like a good lead in into Havoc. Paul E continues to have a big presence on tv. Ron and Barry give a good little promo here. Really happy with where WCW is at for the most part.

[1991-09-22-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Barber Shop: Ric Flair & Bobby Heenan
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Flair's tour to all the interview segments continues. Beefcake is a douche for napping in the chair. Flair is still able to do an effective promo switching between Hogan and Piper. -
[1991-09-22-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Sgt Slaughter
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Big time 5 o clock shadow for the Sarge. He is wanting his country back. I don't remember this from my time as a kid so I am interested to see how it plays out. Sarge gives a good spirited promo here. -
[1991-09-21-TWA-Autumn Armageddon] Terry Funk vs Kevin Sullivan
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
This had a lot going on and was a sprint brawl for the 15 minutes it lasted. Sullivan played to his strengths of being a wandering brawler with some neat tendencies like the hammer bit. Woman taking the spinning toe hold did feel like a redemption spot. Funk was in rare form flipping the bird and cussing up a storm. Im not sure if the match was good but it was entertaining.- 6 replies

I was really impressed with this match. hughes works it so well that I really felt they could have built up to a cool triple main event at Havoc with Windham/Hughes, Cactus/Sting, and Simmons/Luger and it would have worked. The dropkick and figure four was especially impressive. Barry has really had a solid 1991 with the Pillman feud and now this. Heated match with juice coming out.

[1991-09-21-WCW-Saturday Night] Lex Luger and Tom Zenk
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Ross calls Luger shot a cheapshot but he did get pushed first. Zenk is such a terrible promo and looks so stupid in the referee uniform. At least they are getting the attitude adjustment over.- 6 replies

Dutch again is waiting on Hansen and I agree its still humorous but starting to run out of steam. Billy Joe continues to win my heart over with his singing getting malicious boos and him just slamming the guitar over the jobbers head. The Embry/Dutch interaction is great especially with Dave Brown interjecting in his facts and adding fuel to the fire. This predictably simmers over with Tojo attacking Dutch with the flag. Eddie Marlin comes out to call for order and we get some more sprawling brawls with most of the USWA roster. The attack on Marlin is really good and he looks shaken up at the end. I love Eddie Marlin and am glad that USWA is on an upswing.
