That Shawn Michaels/Jeff Jarrett match from In Your House
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Listen to Jim Ross at Royal Rumble 98 during the casket match. He spends pretty much the entire match putting over Shawn which was strange since 1.)Shawn was a heel and 2).was going over -
The gimmick was mostly a Shotgun exclusive and I didn't get Shotgun in my market at the time so I missed most of this stuff. Wasn't he working a side program with Terry Funk (on Shotgun of course) during this period?
-
Meltzer on WOL last night: Bryan "Jordan poured milk all over his body" Meltz (total deadpan) That was milk?
-
the stories on Dunn, who's been with the company since the mid 80s, don't start coming out in the WON until Cornette joins the booking team in 96/97 Hmmm... I think there's a connection there

Oh yeah Nash said in his shoot that Backlund wanted him to do chain wrestling and sunset flips during their run together. Jerry Brisco was a big Backlund supporter and had Nash go along with the layout. Nash complained to Vince and the programs were switched to Backlund with Razor and Jarrrett with Nash yes I must see those Nash/Backund matches with Nash doing chain wrestling and sunset flips

I didn't like him in the ring as most net fans but I loved the "Raven goes home" and "Positively" Kanyon angles "Champagne" Kanyon was pretty awesome too or "Shampoo" as Juvy called him RIP

on the new DVD Shawn said he purposely tried to be over the top in the ring in the early mid 90s cause it fit the cartoonish nature of the promotion. He was trying to be visual with spastic movements and gyrations He changed it up in the comenback and in the HD era to fit the more "realistic" style

True but I was mainly talking about the "OMG!! you still watch wrestling! LOLZ!" crowd that think they're above it while they are posting on a *wrestling* board and then defend themselves with "this isn't really a wrestling board anymore, only the mouth breathers post there"
-
Obviously not this place but nothing irks me more than "I'm too cool to talk about wrestling on a wrestling board and if you do you're an idiot" Just ran across some of that and felt the need to post how much it still pisses me off

Shawn is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time My favorite period was probably his heel run in 1997 and the beginning of 1998. Just incredible heat and I love the early DX stuff. I'll add on to the lollipop story in the Shamrock feud with a favorite of mine. At the DX PPV in DEC 1997 Shawn and Hunter are quoting Chris Farley movies *during* the match. You can't get more obnoxious than that. Just two fratboys who happen to be involved in a worked wrestling match. Oddly Farley would die just days later. On the new DVD Shawn admits that he was not a fan of the "boyhood dream" storyline. He said it made him look corny and he is 100% right. I don't blame him but rather Vince's pre-conceived notions on what top babyfaces are supposed to act like as for the comeback I would have liked to see him work heel and work with different guys but he wouldn't work Tuesdays and he just seemed to work the same guys over and over. Overall I would call it a success with him being able to get over with a new fanbase rather effortlessly i also liked him on color during RAW in 1994 when Lawler was going through his legal issues and of course the Rocker/Summers and Rose feud was epic Edit: 3:40 in Shawn and Hunter start quoting Farley while Shawn is supposed to be writhing in pain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZALNvgaDxk

People on Scott Keith's blog are wishing death on John Cena
-
and it's nice to see Dave explaining *why* he didn't like Monsoon specifically instead of some vague reports of "well at the time nobody thought he was that good"
-
"You can't beat a man that way!" I have this feeling Gorilla is somewhere out there chastising wrestlers for not hooking legs in some eternal cycle I was thinking the exact same thing after reading that. Never noticed it even with time and perspective

*bump* Roadie v Jarrett was hyped in WWF magazine for Summerslam 95 so that was definitely the plan -
1:30 in Vinny would make a great ironic babyface and Bryan as the George in the George and Lennie relationship

the WWE's decision to shift to gimmick PPVs last year was actually quite smart. Other than Breaking Point it was a success (at least a moderate one). I hate to agree with Bryan Alvarez but on the free show last night he said that WWE at least tries to make some changes when things aren't working (the new PPV model, NXT)

btw before tonight I never realized Wendi was in the "She Bop" music video. I have to say she looked pretty hot in that nurse's outfit I guess Vince didn't mind his top female face in a video about female masturbation (well he did let Roddy Piper say "Female Masturbation" on TNT)
-
Oh man wait till Todd rants on the finish of tonight's RAW let me see how he can explain why a clean finish would have been better
-
I was just going to post this this has to be a lowpoint in the ten and a half years of Meltzer online
-
I have to see both of these. Didn't Diane Keaton of all people bring up wrestling on Letterman after attending a WWF House Show in MSG in 85 or 86?
-
WWE pairing Miz with Danielson has to just be WWE fucking with smarks. Meltzer is already pissed This is going to be awesome
-
The fact that Todd didn't seem to grasp that it was a parody was kind of alarming. I didn't like the segment but I wasn't offended and it was full of a bunch of midcarders who fill time. Not going to affect business in any way
