    Mocho Cota

Watched it again more closely this time and I think I underrated it. It's a little bit tricky actually. I underrated it because I was so into it. I was really into Casas' selling and Cota's dickishness, and I really wanted Casas to unload on him more. I wanted him to get a chance to beat the crap out of Cota, like we saw in, let's say MS1 vs Sangre Chicana. I wanted him to hit that massive punch and just viscerally get back at him for what he did to him the whole match. And that doesn't happen. I wanted a different story than what they ultimately gave me, but the story that they did give me was good. Every little bit of offense that Casas gets in the back half of the match (really the whole match) is desperate and earned. Cota spends the whole match cutting him off, to the point that the idea of Casas really hitting a move is built up to the extent that when he does, that's it. I think if they went a little bit further towards what I thought I wanted, it wouldn't have been enough, but since they didn't go that way at all, it actually works. My head really enjoyed it but it wasn't what my heart ultimately wanted very much because the way they built the first 90% of the match.
  2. it's weird to think that because every territory had to have a #1 and #2 babyface basically. I know some were saved but there haven't really been any major surprises yet, guys who have a lot more value in 1983 then they do looking back in 2015.
  3. To me Barry is basically an upgrade on Hennig who was there at the time, but with a wider range of possibilities because of his size. Sullivan goes on and on about how Barry was the best possible babyface to build a company around in 1984. This is close enough.
  4. As a second round pick, he should get the Galaxians for free (not the wrestlers, just the gimmick.)
  5. 1983 Cornette was mainly selected for his ability to help create arena programs.
  6. I'm sure Parv can be cool, detached, and professional.
  7. Can do a special here. Andre thanksgiving for Flair booked to go sixty Broadway. He'll be presented as a big deal. Wait? Can Andre go sixty in 1983? Forget Bruiser Brody being the one to die early.
  8. Also Lawler owes Vince, Sr. a big stage loss from that 77-78 Apter mag Andre fiasco.

I'll watch it again soon. I'm shooting for a full write up on Weds. I wonder why they didn't go 2/3 falls. I saw another CMLL single fall hair match recently too. I think it was Satanico vs Damien or someone from the early 00s.
  10. Please do not attempt to influence negotiations in progress. I'll have you know that I run the Official David "The Assassin" Sierra Fan Club and Newsletter and I reserve the right to print anything that I come across. Our Motto is "He Sure Tries Hard"
  11. You guys should be discussing finishes in this too. Do you want Lawler to job clean in new york? etc.
  12. He became Magnum in May 83 right?
  13. Has anyone ever looked at Slaughter's talent relations/scout/agent work in thinking about his candidacy?
  14. And far more importantly, because he couldn't follow history and go with this:
  15. A cunning plan to trade for Masao Ito in 1984.

    WWE TV 6/8 - 6/14/15

I think placing Punk in the 80s is really tough. Maybe a cross between Chris Colt and Jake Roberts.
  17. Hopefully Buddy doesn't try to marry Barry's sister.
  18. He's trying to work you. Tell him you're sending Andre and send Pete Doherty instead.
  19. I'm not participating but I like watching how people are really thinking about their territory in their picks and not just who might be best statistically or whatever.
  20. This is where this is headed:
  21. I really love AAA entrances too.
  22. As you say, I'm the one that points out that we're doing the same shit now that we've done for years, just with more stuff to look at. Of course in 2005 we had more stuff to look at than in 1995, and in 1995 we had more stuff (if we cared to chase for it) than in 1985, and 1985 was light years ahead of 1975 in what was available to collectors / hardcore fans. It just part of a continuum. As far as Enlightenment, to consider us or the nonsense we're talking about to be the Locke or Voltaire or Kant of pro wrestling is pretty much up there in the Kerry Von Erich Delusional Zone. That's not what I'm saying John. Also, I just watched Bossman vs Kobashi, liked it a lot, but also think Tenta could have had a very similar match in 92-93. Some of the flourishes like the powerbomb and missed top rope move and the sunset flip reversal of a piledriver reversal would have had to be different (simpler, but also effective looking given how good Tenta's stuff looked. I think the crowd would have reacted just as much). They'd have to get to the initial legwork a different way too (probably with Tenta knocked out of the ring when Kobashi moved him for the first time with his offense early on. The grabbing of the legs could come from there). But the way Bossman gave and sold, the way he worked the crowd, the great cut off with the punch out of nowhere, these were all things that Quake were pretty good at (With that last one, I would have actually loved to see Kobashi vs Yoko, because again, they could have had a pretty similar match thematically).
  23. I just ran a search and it all goes back to the Bret vs Flair thread. Of course it does.
  24. So basically, he just has Ryback's gimmick.
