  1. Was Tiger Mask ever really a draw? Was it really Inoki (Fujinami?) that drew the cards he was on? Wasn't he more of a featured attraction that the main draw?
  2. That's a stretch.
  3. I don't see a chance in hell that he beats Taker, BUT if it does happen, I just think it's would have to be something UT thought was a good idea.
  4. That's a really good point. I can't see Undertaker doing anything that he's not totally down with doing.
  5. We have a concilman in Louisville named Rick Blackwell. That name is cool enough, but Brick Rockwell would be even sweeter.
  6. As it is with pretty much any job that requires meetings. Meetings are the worst. Yes, that Rod Strong is much better on the mic than say, oh...anyone in WWE.

    1997 Recommendations

You gotta include Undertaker vs. Hakushi from M-Pro's 10/10 show just for the pure wierdness of the Undertaker on a Michinoku Pro show in 1997.
  8. This needs to lead to Bob Barker coming out and kicking Carey's ass and taking his HOF ring.
  9. I have this sinking feeling that this is all going to be turned into some shitty angle.
  10. Ex-act-ly! I just saw The Matrix on tv last week. When that movie came out, I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It was the first movie I bought when I got a dvd player. My roommates and I watched the shit out of it in college. Watching it last week, I thought it sucked. The acting was shitty, the storyline cheesy, but the special effects were still impressive...for the time. The TM/DK matches are kind of the wrestling equivalent of The Matrix. There's not much substance to either, but the special effects/spots were revolutionary for the time.
  11. I'd say this has a lot to do with it. I don't know about tv exposure, but I'd be willing to bet that a bunch more TM matches were floating around with tape traders than Hamada matches. Speaking for myself (and maybe others here), I was introduced to Japanese wrestling through guys I had seen in the states. A bunch of people started checking out puro because of some heavily-pimped Steiners matches in the early 90's. I may be talking out of my ass, but I'm sure the TM/Dynamite matches got some extra play from featuring a dude that people were already familiar with from WWF.
  12. Am I the only one seeing the irony ? So do you think that ECW match were Benoit had the tantrum in was scripted or called in the ring? What match was That?
  13. Do you guys go to the mall at Christmas time and tell all the kids in line to see Santa that he's not real? This was more fun when it was a unicorn.
  14. There's a couple that wear neon-yellow and pink windbreakers and are in the front row a lot at WWE events. I know nothing about them, but they fascinate me.
  15. For a few years in the late 80's, Duggan was by-far one of the most over guys on the roster. As a 10 and 11 year-old kid, I went to a few shows around 87-88. My friends and I (and my dad and my uncle, who were not fans, just accompanying us) were super-psyched to see Hacksaw. They actually did a pretty good job showing how over he was in the video package for the HOF. Yeah, he wasn't really a draw into himself and all that, but Duggan was one of the biggest stars during one of Vince's hottest periods.

    Gay jokes

It should be noted, too, that Cena was reverting back to "rap-battle" Cena last night. I have yet to hear a rap battle (not that I've heard a ton) that did not contain a number of homophobic slams. I realize that Cena has not shied away from gay jokes since ditching the rap character, but this is still something.
  17. I've worked in television news for 10 years now. I have never, ever heard anyone refer to themselves as a "broadcast journalist". I'd say that 99% of the times I've heard that term, it's been on WWF/E programming.

    Gay jokes

It's funny that "PG" WWE may be more harmful to children (in my opinion) than Attitude era stuff. I mean, Attitude era had stuff like lesbian angles, light cursing, and "shocking" situations (Undertaker "crucifying" Austin, Foley's bumps/chairshots, etc). Most of that stuff was so far out there, that I doubt it really had any kind of lingering effect on kids. In the last few years, WWE has had their top face consistently insinuate that his rivals may be gay, and that there IS something wrong with that. Also, the whole normal-looking girls are fat thing has gotten out of control. Yes, I get that Vicki is a super-over heel. That doesn't make it ok when I'd be willing to wager that most girls watching wrestling are closer to her build than say, Michelle McCool. It just strikes me as odd that we've had all this talk about WWE "toning down" their product for kids when it's arguably doing more harm now.
  19. Mike Tyson was a Junior Olympic gold medalist. Does that count?
  20. Pointy toe and a boot-looking heel. May not be, but they looked like it to me. Also, it kinda fits the whole motif. I've got a feeling that this is just maybe someone new debuting.
  21. I didn't get the impression that it was Taker. I think Jacob from Lost is going to be debuting. I didn't really feel like it was Sting either. Whoever it is was wearing cowboy boots in the promo.
  22. Didn't Nash get the "monster push" in a Rumble one year? You know, the dude who goes on a big eliminating spree. If they kinda play that up, they can at least make people give a shit when he gets dumped. Also, he should come out as Diesel with the music and all.
  23. God, I really want to see both of those. I picked up a set of all the SNME's a couple of years ago. I've watched most of it, and Hogan's matches with Volkoff and Race have been two of my favorite things so far. Race bumps like a nut for him, and the Volkoff match is a pretty awesome brawl with good work from both guys. The early SNME's are worth seeing just for the pure camp of a lot of the stuff.
  24. Yeah, I thought Syxx was a good addition, as was DiBiase. I started to sour on the NWO when they added random WCW guys. I liked the idea of a stable made entirely of ex-WWF guys. It's kind of like when Austin and Angle joined the WCW Invasion. It just gets away from the point of the whole thing.
