I spent nine years not really paying any attention to the product unless something got pimped here. I just got back into it last summer when WWE started the Bryan build.

Loss and I bantered about this on Twitter: If ECW was such a hot product why didn't it draw fifteen years ago? How many ECW fans refuse to acknowledge that the promotion and Paul Heyman were largely propped up by Vince McMahon after trying to go national?

So I have some disposable income and I was thinking of getting either (or both) a Torch and/or Observer VIP membership. I've never read the Observer and I stopped subscribing to the Torch in 2001. I was curious if you guys had any thoughts on these and would it be worth my time and investment?

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread

For what it's worth, I was a teenager back then and I thought JR's comments were out of line. -
I loved that opening tag match and then everything else sucked. The booking felt like a Smackdown card, but I guess we'll have to get used to it as the PPV cards are now just Network specials. I asked Loss this on Twitter and I really feel this is what we'll get: A Rusev-Swagger flag match at SummerSlam. Okay, so I started watching some Zack Ryder stuff recently since I was completely tuned out of WWE during his YouTube fame. I see the guy tweeting almost every week that he's watching Raw from home, he hardly works two house shows a month and they call him up for sixty seconds of work on a PPV? WWE cuts guys who appear on TV every week but seem to enjoy keeping him on payroll but far away from an audience. I often wonder if this company really exists to make money or just amuse the handful of people who run it.

I know last year they showed the entire Rock-Cena match but don't they usually just mix up the highlights of some of the key matches into music videos like they used to do on Sunday Night Heat?

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

I just got somewhat interested in TNA again and if Russo is involved I'll be checking back out in short order. -
That's bullshit. Bryan winning was the absolute best feel-good moment of the year so far and I doubt anything could top it. Exactly.

Was Triple H part of the angle or was he jumping in there because Bray was bleeding?

I opened that up on my laptop and my two-year old came running to check out the commotion. With any luck I'll have him posting here in a few years.

This thread has made me want to buy a copy of the WWE Magazine. I know it's entirely different now but the next time I'm at the grocer I'm going to grab a copy. I might grab a PWI, too, but they're $9.99 USD these days.

I'll say "The Fink" because I grew up on his epic calls of title changes. I also loved his re-introduction of Gorilla Monsoon immediately prior to the main event of WrestleMania XII, minutes removed from the Goldust-Roddy Piper lunacy.

I don't remember exactly when but my parents smartened me up pretty early on. My uncle had recorded a ton of WWF cards beginning in 1984 and gave me the tapes and I would see Lanny Poffo, Mike Rotunda, and Jacques Rougeau and my parents pointed out that those guys were now The Genius, IRS, and The Mountie. My mom told me what a "gimmick" was and that they were all just performers. I think I enjoyed it even more as a result.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

WWE's top face is homophobic and misogynist (at times), so of course TNA is going to continue its trend of copying WWE and make sure their top face is as close as possible. I thought Triple H was a heel now? -

Maybe he meant something else but that tweet sure as hell came off as sarcastic or dismissive. He could have just retweeted it and left it at that. -
I ordered the Network just for the on-demand content. I do enjoy watching the first-run programming and live PPVs, especially since I don't have to find a decent stream every month or hunt clips down on YouTube before WWE deletes them.

He didn't. Flair said in his book that Savage was the only person to ever cut him without asking permission and he was pretty pissed about it. Sorry, I should have remembered that.
-
Since I saw it live in 2003 I've thought that Triple H taking so long to pin Booker at WrestleMania was just because he was pissed Booker landed on his head while hitting the Houston hangover.

I remember at least one of these columns, titled something like "Now It's Our Turn" and it was a mass of text refuting the steroid and sex allegations of 1992. As a nine-year old boy reading this stuff during my lunch period at elementary school my head was spinning out of control. Me, too!

I still say good guys and bad guys, with no sense of irony. It's how I grew up. I even hated it when the Apter Mags used "Scientific Wrestler " and "Rulebreaker". I also remember the Apter mags referring to faces as "fan favorites".

I've started watching TNA again and I just can't believe they think it's a good idea to make a homophobic misogynist their top face. They really just don't get it. -
My local newspaper, The Sacramento Bee, had a phone line you could call for upcoming events, sports scores, horoscopes, etc. One of the options was a pro wrestling insider line and it had twice-weekly Blackjack Brown updates. Sometimes he'd read news in kayfabe, sometimes semi-shoot.

I think his opponent's name is worthy of an *ahem*.
-
Why would someone as proficient as Flair need someone else to cut him?

I read pretty much every issue since my dad bought me the issue previewing the 1990 Survivor Series until around 2003 or 2004. I loved the crazy, corny articles and the vibrant photos. Vince Russo released the Raw Magazine with the Sunny and Sable dueling lingerie pictorials just in time for puberty. One year I sent in a card to order a subscription and checked the "bill me later" box and the magazine kept coming to my house for a few years after that.
