Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Candido said he has beaten every star in wrestling -- Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Jushin Liger and JR Benson! Candido is a really terrific promo. He's prepared to throw the U.S junior heavyweight title into a river, but Bobby Blaze shows up to stop him. Candido ends up pushing him into the river and heading for the hills!
Cox
I love the random references to JR Benson that stemmed from Fan Week.
El-P
Candido was so great so early in his career. Excellent worker, excellent promo. I love to watch him in pretty much any setting but it also makes me sad a bit. I dind't think Blaze would end up in the river, which looked dirty and muddy as hell. Kevin Ridge
Blaze went flying into the water and yeah it did look very dirty. He chases Candido off over the hill. Blaze must have been stalking Candido to find him in that location.
PeteF3
Candido extolls the beauty of New Jersey's beaches in comparison to the river he's at now, where he plans on throwing away the U.S. junior heavyweight title. Bobby Blaze tries to stop him, and ends up taking a bath instead of the belt. Blaze cuts a pretty good promo in response. I strongly suspect, looking at the background, that this was in fact taped before the fight in the river. Accuse me of being a tinfoil hat-wearer if you must. GSR
Chris Candido is down by the river and told everyone that when he won the US Jr. Heavyweight title he was going to throw it in the river where it belonged because he was shocked, amazed and disgusted that Smoky Mountain Wrestling refused to recognize his WWA World Championship, yet recognized that ugly piece of garbage. He’s beaten everyone in professional wrestling from Hulk Hogan to Ric Flair to Jushin Liger to JR Benson, and is now going to take this belt along with every other belt that he wins and throw them in the river. That way there will be other title to recognize in the sport of professional wrestling except his WWA World Heavyweight championship. He told that coward Bobby Blaze he could show up to watch, but he didn’t have enough guts. Just as he’s about to throw the belt into the river here comes Bobby Blaze. The two of them start fighting at the river bank and it ends up with Blaze being thrown into the river before chasing off after Candido. Blaze responds and what happened to him a few days ago was the most embarrassing and humiliating thing that has ever happened to him in his wrestling career. That US Jr. Heavyweight title was the first title that he ever won and it sickens him to see Chris Candido walking around with it and saying that it has no value whatsoever. He’s going to speak with some of the promoters in Smoky Mountain and see if they can come up with a way to embarrass Candido just like he did him. The Candido/Blaze feud has been a pleasant surprise whilst watching the weekly TV and the title change from the previous week was very good (and kinda suprised it didn;t make the Yearbook cut). The two of them busted out a bunch of 'modern' stuff that you wouldn't expect to see in SMW (crossbody off the top to the arena floor for one) and Candido just looks like the perfect opponent for Blaze. Fun segments.
garretta
I liked both promos equally. Chris is clearly the more polished talker, but Bobby's got the earnestness (is that a word?) of the true-blue babyface working for him. He's pure (at least in a wrestling sense), but there's a grit to him that separates him from the average white meat babyface, and I'm not just saying that because he called Chris a son of a bitch twice. I loved Chris's line about the beautiful things on New Jersey's beaches, like hypodermic needles and medical waste. The funny thing is, there are probably quite a few New Jersey natives who actually believe that one of their beaches is more beautiful than a river in Tennessee, even with the needles and waste. I remember this angle from Will's SMW set, and I certainly hope that the payoff makes it. You'll see what I mean if and when we get there. I'm guessing that the WWA in question that Chris is the champion of refers to Dennis Coraluzzo's Philadelphia-based indy, not the LeBell promotion from Los Angeles or the remnants of the old Kansas City territory. I'm also guessing that Chris and Tammy hadn't hooked up professionally yet, although I seem to remember that it happened not too long after this. I know that Chris hadn't been in the business long enough to wrestle Hogan or Flair at this point, let alone beat them, but can someone tell me who in thunder JR Benson is? soup23
Good promo by Candido and we get a tussle between him and Blaze with Blaze ending up in the drink. Blaze airbrushed merch is horrendous but he does cut a decent promo here talking about how much the title means to him.
