Loss
Use this thread to post recommendations for the yearbook. I don't want to put requirements on making recommendations necessarily, but I will kindly ask a favor -- if you recommend something, if you could, maybe just include a brief reason that you're recommending it. It doesn't have to be elaborate, but just something for us to see why it should go on. If you make recommendations that pique my curiosity, I will do my part to ask more follow-up questions to make sure I have a good understanding of why it was recommended. In addition, I will use this thread to list matches I come across when looking through various lists that look interesting on paper to ask if anyone has seen them. Thanks! smkelly
1-8-01 Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle WWFTitle match on Raw. 1-21-01 Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho WWFProbably the best one on one ladder match the WWF has ever done. 5-19-01 Jay Briscoe vs. Marc Briscoe CZWHow they didn't kill each other or themselves at that young of age doing that kind of match has also been beyond me. I halfway expected one of them to start crying just like a junior or senior boy might do after being dumped on top of their head. Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho vs. Steve Austin & Triple H (WWF Tag Team Titles, RAW 05/21/01)My favorite WWF tag match. The heat is ungodly, the workers bust their asses and quad in this match, and the entire atmosphere is reminiscent of an out of control ECW tag team match, which is a good thing. 5-31-01 Chris Benoit vs. Steve Austin WWFBenoit and Austin were the two top WWF workers so far of 2001. 6-24-01 Kurt Angle vs. Shane McMahon WWFPainful suplexes through glass... 9-22-01 Scoot Andrews vs. American Dragon vs. Low-Ki vs. Daniels ECWASuper long super four way. 2-24-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki ECWA 7-21-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki ECWA 10-27-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki APW (King of the Indies Finals) What was the consensus on these two workers back in 2001? I'm guessing awesome because they were working like Benoit vs. Smith from Stampede, i.e great. Never seen: 6-27-01 Nick Dinsmore vs. The Machine OVW (Career vs. Mask) 10-13-01 Steve Corino vs. Shinya Hashimoto NWA (NWA World Title) 11-30-01 Low Ki vs. Eddie Guerrero ICW
Ditch
Purotopia vote results: http://board.deathvalleydriver.com/index.php?showtopic=50508 edit: There's a lot of fun/good/interesting matches from 2001 Japan. I'm having a really hard time figuring out what else to bring up from among what I'm hosting...
soup23
2-24-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki ECWA 7-21-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki ECWA 10-27-01 Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki APW (King of the Indies Finals) What was the consensus on these two workers back in 2001? I'm guessing awesome because they were working like Benoit vs. Smith from Stampede, i.e great. They were definitely being pimped heavily by the DVDVR guys. Initially after the ECWA Super 8 match, Lo Ki was seen as being the best but by the Ricky Steamboat ref match it was clear how much that Dragon had improved. smkelly
Is that a serious question?
Loss
Is that a serious question? Yes. This isn't just a "best of" ... there's sprinkles of Wrestlecrap. I'm thinking a single XWF clip that sort of sums up the whole thing. Maybe Hogan-Hennig?
smkelly
I keep forgetting about that aspect of the Year Book thing.
smkelly
"Some Things I Haven't Seen But Cannot Doubt It Being Awesome": 2/17/01 CM Punk vs. Chris Hero IWA-MS 8/11/01 Too Cold Scorpio, Suicide Kid, Colt Cabana, & Ian Rotten vs. CM Punk, Chris Hero, Ace Steel, & Danny Dominion - 8 Man Elimination Match IWA-MS 9/1/01 CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana - 2-of-3 Falls Match w/ Suicide Kid as Special Referee IWA-MS 10/6/01 CM Punk vs. Chris Hero IWA-MS What's the over/under for death matches being on these sets? There were some excellent ones from IWA-MS.
soup23
This set is going to be very interesting because I think 2001 more than any other year has stuff that was mind blowing at the time, but does not hold up at all on repeat viewings. Mark/Jay from BOTB immediately comes to mind, that match was mind blowiing at the time and while still amazing that it is essentially two kids having that match, it does not hold up. For the yearbook project though it is not all about workrate so it deserves an inclusion, but those matches should be held to a minimum and more matches like Dixie/Homicide from JAPW that actually improve over time should be included too. Tim Evans
What XWF needs to go on? I would think Hogan vs Curt Hennig w/ Bobby Hennan as Manager might go on. Maybe Kid Kash vs AJ Styles? Did Lawler vs Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger ever air?

MikeCampbell
Also from the 5/21 RAW, Eddie Guerrero and Jeff Hardy vs. Edge and Christian. One of Eddie's last TV matches before he left in 2001.

Dylan Waco
I know the prospect of looking for Puerto Rico is unpleasant, but that Tajiri v. El Lobo match is from Dec. is really, really, really good
Loss
How's this for 2001 All Japan? Does everything here need to go on? Is anything missing? 04/14/01 - Keiji Muto vs Toshiaki Kawada 06/08/01 - Masahito Kakihara & Mitsuya Nagai vs Yuji Nagata & Shinya Makabe 06/08/01 - Keiji Muto vs Genichiro Tenryu 06/08/01 - Toshiaki Kawada vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan 07/14/01 - Keiji Muto vs Steve Williams
MikeCampbell
You can scrap that Kawada/Tenzan match, they had one in NJPW that was much better earlier in the year. Tenzan/Kojima vs. Doc/Hines from April wouldn't be a bad inclusion.

rzombie1988
WOW - Beckie the Farmer's Daughter vs The Disciplinarian I rated this *** and know you guys always like some different stuff. I'd totally recommend this as it was rather fun. Not like WOW has a chance to get on the set otherwise. WOW - Randi Rah Rah vs Lana Star Not as good, but it was a fun revenge match with Randi after Lana for putting her eye in a eye patch. WOW - Jungle Grrrl vs Jane Blond Lots of good highflying here from Jungle Grrrl. WOW Unleashed PPV - Becki the Farmer's Daughter vs Jungle Grrrl I remember enjoying this one as both are decent flyers and Jungle Grrrl did a really cool splash off super high ladder. CaptCabana
My one request is the pre-match hype video set to Limp Bizkit's "My Way" HAS to be included before the Wrestlemania X-7 match between Stone Cold and The Rock. Say what you will about the band, they were certainly a fad of the times. But this video still gives me chills....when they start throwing fists right as the drum kicks in to the chorus...so great. CaptCabana
Was the video set to Creed's "Higher" in 2001, too? I remember that being fairly awesome as well. In retrospect, WWE did a lot of great videos to shitty bands.

I still have on VHS comps that a guy on DVDVR (Wes, I believe) did of the northeast indy scene. There's like 8 of them, 8 hours each, covering up to... maybe 2003? The one I'd add for sure to that list is Low Ki v. Christopher Daniels, ECWA, 11/3/01. Terrific match. Red and Low Ki also had a good one for UCW on 8/25/01. That CZW six-man is a must, if only because it was one of the most pimped matches at the time and really made the reps of all six guys. I sort of cringe as to how well that one probably holds up.
