Loss
Clip from MSC. Lawler goes for his chain, but Valiant had already stolen it from him without his knowledge. He decks Lawler with it, and then Valiant beats him at his own game, tossing the chain before the referee can find it. Valiant finally wins the USWA title to the delight of the crowd. PeteF3
Valiant levels Lawler with his own chain before passing it off before he can be caught. Same ref bump spot as in the Texas match, but Frank Morrell doesn't go all the way down. Nate passes something to Lawler and he attempts to throw fire at Valiant but catches Morrell instead. Valiant gets a rollup and Jerry Calhoun makes the count, and Valiant is the new Unified World Champion!
soup23
Love seeing Jerry get outsmarted with the chain and Jimmy to resourceful moving out of the way from the fireball. Jimmy wins the belt!
Cox
So Valiant wins the USWA Unified title here in Memphis on 2/26, and then Lawler defends the belt in Texas on 3/2. I know none of the Memphis title changes were recognized in Memphis, but didn't PWI report on this stuff? Not sure what the point is in running Texas like in its own separate orbit, other than trying to blatantly expose the wrestling business to anybody in Dallas with a PWI subscription. Kevin Ridge
Valiant cleverly steals Lawler’s foreign object. Referee takes a fire ball to the face from Lawler. Valiant gets the roll up and wins title when other ref comes in.
Laney
Fun finish to the match here as we see Valiant outsmart Lawler and Lawler gets what is coming to him. Fun Memphis shenanigans finish.
garretta
This is what happens to the King when both the chain and the fire let him down. Nice to see the celebration when Boogie wins the belt, as he's one of the few in Memphis who can get the crowd behind him against Lawler at this point. As for Lawler defending the belt in Dallas after he lost it, the rule usually is that the old champion still defends the title until the loss is shown on TV. If the Dallas match was 3/2 and the Memphis loss was shown for the first time the next day, the loss "hadn't happened" yet, and thus Lawler was still the recognized champion. Who was the guy in the tux who got Jimmy's first hug during the celebration? Anyone we're supposed to know?
drew wardlaw
This clip is more action packed than the previous match, and Jimmy wins the title. I can't wait to see how Lawler reacts.
GSR
The bout is joined in progress and Lawler with some great looking punches that have no effect on Valiant. Lawler reaches in his tights for the chain but Valiant is on him and gets hold of it first. He nails ‘The King’ and disposes of the chain at ringside before Frank Morrell can find it on him. Valiant with the sleeper, and reminiscent of the Dallas bout, Lawler shoves him into the referee who goes down. ‘The King’ goes to throw fire at Valiant (which Nate the Rat had just passed to him), but ‘Handsome’ Jimmy moves and the fire hits Morrell instead. Lawler goes over to Morrell, seemingly trying to apologise for what happened, Valiant rolls him up from behind, Jerry Calhoun slides in the ring to count the fall and we have a new Heavyweight champion. dawho5
I was thinking that about Valiant myself. There aren't many who can make the crowd boo Lawler in Memphis anymore. That has to be why Valiant is here. He's definitely not much in the ring, but they keep it simple enough and it works. Good to see a ref bump go against Lawler for once.
