Loss
A studio match! Gilbert hides a foreign object, which serves Lawler right after all those months of doing the same to other people. The Dirty White Boys run in to help Gilbert and Gilbert goes to throw fire at Lawler and accidentally hits Burton! Suddenly, Memphis is a really hot territory, no pun intended. One great segment after another.
Loss
Lawler cuts a campaign commercial for Kathryn Swisher, a trial litigator who is practicing karate at Mid South Coliseum in the background. Priceless.
PeteF3
#1 contenders match for the Unified World title live in studio. Gilbert plays a masterful game of hide-the-rope with Jerry Calhoun, and about as soon as we get going the Dirty White Boys hit the ring for the beatdown. DWG hands something to Gilbert, and out comes a fireball that misses Lawler and hits Burton! Between eating a piledriver last week and getting burned now, Burton ought to be near dead. Gilbert declares that it was Lawler who burned Burton and dares he and Dundee to bring their fire and bats to the MSC for the Texas Death Match. Vote Kathryn Swisher for Chancellor of Chancery Court, Part 1!
soup23
I always mark for fireballs and love the way this whole scene developed. The political commercial was great and I am so glad it was included.
shoe
I'm a mark for fireballs too. Just having guys who all can talk and work really gets Memphis singing.
Kevin Ridge
They spell Eddie Gilbert’s name wrong on the screen graphic. Gilbert doesn’t waste time using a foreign object. He attacks Lawler’s throat. But once Lawler gets the advantage the Dirty White Boys hit the ring. We have fire which I was just waiting for but Lawler ducks and Tom Burton gets it in the face instead. Eddie of course blames Lawler for the whole thing. Lawler gives his support to a local politician who does martial art moves in a wrestling ring to some guy. Did she win?
garretta
Not really much of a match between Lawler and Gilbert, but it is rather ironic to see Eddie playing heel Lawler's favorite game of "Object, Object, Wherefore Art Thou, Object?" with the King himself. Obviously, a number one contender's match on TV is counterproductive, so we get a DWBs run-in. Then Eddie throws fire at Lawler, who promptly ducks so that poor Tom Burton gets it in the face instead! That Lawler. How dare he duck a fireball that was meant to cripple him for life! Eddie is particularly effective here; you can tell that he brings a little something extra to the table when he's feuding with his idol Lawler. I wonder what he meant by "stuff you all thought had gone away"? I guess we'll all find out soon enough. Michael St. John has some grit to him, talking back a bit to an angry Tony Anthony here. All in all, I prefer announcers who stand up for themselves on occasion rather than cowering simps who can barely hold the mic in the presence of the big, bad wrestlers. If wrestlers scare you, then why the hell are you in the business to begin with? Yes, it can be overdone, but wrestling could have used some more commentators who weren't afraid to call the heels out to their faces. Kim's getting a bit better on promos; let's hope Tessa follows suit soon for the sake of this feud.
drew wardlaw
Whoever the politician lady is was working those throws. I don't believe for a second she's got a black belt in whatever that was.
GSR
Jerry Lawler vs Eddie Gilbert in a number one contender’s match for the USWA Unified title. Not much of a match but I found this fun. Gilbert picks up some rope from ringside, which the crowd tell the referee about, and he then hides and conceals it whilst the ref searches him trying to find it. He chokes Lawler with the rope behind the referee’s back, but when he whips him into the turnbuckles and charges at him, ‘The King’ moves and Gilbert goes shoulder first into the ring post. He decks ‘Hot Stuff’ and starts to choke him, when out from the back comes the Dirty White Boys who jump Lawler. The Dirty White Girl hands something to Gilbert, which turns out to be fire. He goes to throw the fire at Lawler, but he ducks and it hits Tom Burton instead. Lawler makes his escape while Burton writhes in pain on the arena floor before being helped to the back by his team mates and Downtown Bruno (who had turned up from somewhere). Michael St. John says how Eddie Gilbert just burned Tom Burton but he’s in denial and says that he didn’t, it was Jerry Lawler’s fire! Jerry Lawler burned Tom Burton, he didn’t do that! He tells Lawler to bring his fire for the Texas Death match because he’s going to bring his, the Dirty White Boy is going to bring his chair and the Dirty White Girl is going to tear Tessa’ clothes off. GSR
Quick political commercial for Kathryn Swisher who ‘The King’ is backing in the upcoming election. The advert is filmed in a wrestling ring and Swisher and an unnamed male are both wearing Judo gi’s. Swisher twice ‘throws’ her opponent to the floor, although it’s blatant that her opponent throws himself!
dawho5
That is one tough lady judge! I mean, she can throw a guy who is letting her throw him for crying out loud. Brilliant stuff, but not as good as the in-studio match/post-match. Gilbert is really making his presence felt.
