Loss Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 The funniest moment came early on when Cowabunga tickled Gilbert when he backed him into the corner. Not much to the match after that, but the gimmick still makes me laugh. Quote
PeteF3 Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 I'm so glad we get an actual Cowabunga match on this yearbook. It would be poorer yearbook without one. Gilbert's reaction to getting tickled is priceless. This is a pretty standard TV match with Memphis staples like hide-the-object. Cowabunga turns things around by tapping Gilbert on the shoulder as he's being pinned, causing Gilbert to think a 3-count was registered and get up. Cowabunga comes back and seems ready to score the pin when Sam Lowe interferes. Lowe takes some pretty reckless bumps from Cowabunga before Anthony & Dougie start a beatdown. That's quickly broken up by Lawler & Dundee, who send the heels running when Doug's hair is tragically lost again, making a waste of all that Miracle Elixir. Quote
shoe Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 I have no problem with Cowabunga. I mean it's comedy in Memphis. With that said their is no way would he even be near the main event players. Quote
soup23 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Cowabunga getting boos amused me and Dave Brown. I agree with Shoe that while this was amusing with the tickling it didn't exactly make Eddie look like much of a threat. Eddie saying that this is not the bedroom after he gets tickled was nice. Ending again made Eddie look weak relying on Lowe to save him. Quote
Kevin Ridge Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Not sure if they are changing the spelling of Cowabunga’s name to avoid potential lawsuits or if it was just spelled wrong again. Some bright colored wrestling tights. Dave Brown questions if Cowabunga’s mask is fire proof. I hope this is tested out. Cowabunga with a technical win. He wears Doug Gilbert’s wig in the ring. Quote
garretta Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 This was a nice little comedy match, as we see that Champion does indeed know how to move well in the suit. Tickling Gilbert in the corner was a nice psychological touch, as was tapping him on the back to make him think that he'd scored a three-count. Despite the costume, the brain of a trained wrestler definitely exists underneath that turtle shell. Doug losing his hair was definitely the highlight of the segment. I'd like to think we saw so much of Lowe in order to get him over as a legit managerial threat. If that's the case, I'm willing to have Eddie look a little silly in order to accomplish the main objective for this particular bout. Sometimes there are more important things to do in a certain segment than making the wrestlers look like badasses. Besides, Eddie can get back his heat with a good promo or two; there may never be a better chance to introduce Lowe as a manager. Quote
drew wardlaw Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Kowabunga wears Doug Gilbert's wig at the end, and the faces help him out of the ring. Totally ridiculous. I'm thankful we got a match on here, but I'm curious what happened with Jeff Gaylord, wasn't that the feud? Quote
dawho5 Posted April 2, 2017 Report Posted April 2, 2017 Eddie Gilbert should not have been involved here, but it kind of makes sense with Kowabunga's obsession with Jerry Lawler. Perfectly fine comedy match but I agree that Gilbert should not look this weak. Quote
