Matt D
I've made the argument before and I really think it's true: The shift to El Matador really helped Tito's matches in 91-93. Up until then, he'd hit a real formula where whenever Tito was going to lose, he'd hit the flying forearm but the heel would roll out of the ring or get his foot on the ropes and at that point, you knew Tito couldn't possibly win. Having El Paso de la Muerte in his back pocket suddenly made everything a heck of a lot more interesting.
PeteF3
Tito is introduced in front of a bullfighting stadium and some very badly edited bullfighting footage follows. I love the extreme close-ups of Santana's face right as the bull is unleashed. Like some idiot is going to walk out there with a heavy video camera and then turn his back on a bull so he can get that shot.
Kevin Ridge
The bullfight looked awful as was so obvious that it wasn’t Santana in there.
soup23
Tito has become El Matador but the camera work is fairly suspicious when the bull is charging in the arena.
garretta
Thank God these vignettes and the Slaughter ones appear to be over; I'm not sure which were worse in terms of getting fans to believe what was going on. If I had to, I'd give the advantage to these, since the El Matador character undoubtedly prolonged Tito's WWF career instead of driving the final stake into its heart. I guess credit is due the WWF editing department for at least trying to make us believe that Tito might actually be fighting a bull. If only they hadn't gone for the view from the top of the stadium! dawho5
To be fair, if Tito had been involved in a bullfight he'd have seen his last match. I'm glad these are over as they are at the very least moderately offensive both on a racist and fans-are-stupid level. Also, how does one becoming a matador help win pro wrestling championships?
