Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
DX is back out so that Shawn can finally have his confrontation with Bret. This was an obvious swerve, but if there was any chance of anyone buying it, Shawn should have done the swerve before HHH went into his heel promo on Slaughter. They bring out the Bret Hart little person and make midget jokes and this is really unfunny. Forget the cheapshot at a guy who has already left, this just isn't funny. HHH has gotten off easy for his role in Montreal. They end this by putting a WCW sticker on his butt and sending him running off. Jim Neidhart suddenly interrupts and is ready to fight when Shawn talks about how dominant the Hart Foundation was years ago and says Anvil always carried the team and wonders where his teammates are. They mention Davey Boy's minor knee surgery and Shawn says he knows all about those fake injuries. Anyway, this leads to Shawn giving Jim Neidhart an opportunity to join DX. This segment sucked and shows how no matter how hot Shawn was, he wasn't nearly as effective without an opponent people cared about. Rough time period for the WWF. All the momentum they had just suddenly came to a stand still.
ajtroma
Transitions can be rough and the WWF's transition here certainly fits that description. In the span of a month, you lost pretty much the entire top heel stable (one to death, three to WCW, and we didn't know where Owen would end up), a lot of injuries, new acts that were getting thrust into the spotlight (ready or not) and really, a heartbroken fan base (no pun intended). I think that the online fan base that was ALL ABOUT the WWF saw that Vince (the babyface independent self-made genius millionaire against that smug heel corporate animal, egomaniac, never-created-a-thing-in-his-life, Jerry Bruckheimer wannabe Bischoff) really was still a sleazy promoter. They felt betrayed and well, stupid. They got over it until the WCW buyout. Then, they felt stupid and gullible again.
ajtroma
Oh shit, one thing I forgot to mention about this little circle jerk of a segment was that Ken Shamrock (you know, the #1 contender that made the champ and everyone else in his path tap, that same #1 contender who has a title shot on pay per view in less than two weeks) isn't mentioned at all. Not once. It was far more important to have a little effigy out there.
flyonthewall2983
All I really remember about this is how stiff that low blow Chyna delivered to Neidhart looked.
Kevin Ridge
This skit did suck as wasn't funny. Michaels gets confronted by another person who really can't match him on the mic. Anvil looks like he wants to start a fight all the way up on the ramp. Shawn has fun with that knee injury bug that seems to be going around. Michaels offers Neidhart a spot in DX which he will think about. So much for him coming down and fighting Michaels and HHH.
soup23
I couldnt remember much of the context of this promo besides mini Bret coming out but man it was dreadful and honestly wasn't funny. WWF has done a good job editing this over the years to make it seem much more important/funny. Terrible way to sell a PPV and Anvil being involved in this nonsense is embarrassing. PeteF3
Triple H makes a desperate attempt to draw heat by ragging on Fort Bragg--good luck with that tack in a few years. Ooh boy, midget and short jokes. Lawler's giggling at this is just as bad as Michael Cole's guffawing now. Oh, by the way, Fayetteville is DEAD SILENT throughout all this. They're not laughing, they're not booing, they're completely and totally indifferent. I mean, they didn't have much to respond to before, but they were still louder for the tag title match. This is really just disgraceful on almost all levels--just not on a heat-drawing level. Then Neidhart shows up, and the idea of DX inviting Neidhart to join their group and Jim just accepting it makes absoutely zero sense. Exposer
This is so stupid. They call out Bret Hart & it's a midget wearing a Bret mask & doing all of his mannerisms. They reenact Montreal to a silent crowd as they laugh at their own jokes. Anvil shows up & cuts a lame promo about being upset. Shawn buries Bret, Owen, & Davey then offers the Anvil a spot in DX. The offer is off the table at the end of the show. Bad segment. WWF was truly in a lull between Survivor Series & the Austin-Tyson angle.
