Loss
The Rock is out with the IC title on his shoulder, which he stole from Austin the week before. Rock's mic starts cutting out and the lights flicker. Suddenly, the words ROCKY SUCKS appear on the Titantron and the crowd is lead in a chant. Suddenly, there's a laser pointer on Rock's face and the crowd is chanting ROCKY SUCKS pretty loudly. Rock sends The Nation to take care of the technical problem and it's interesting how Faarooq is now taking a backseat. We then see Austin in the truck fidgeting with everything. He then gives the famous warning about 316 appearing on Rock's beeper and Austin attacking when he least expects it. Suddenly, Rock sees the numbers on his phone and Austin attacks him from behind. Austin then chases the Nation off with a chair and finally this crowd has something to interest them in this show.
Kevin Ridge
Fans love to chant small phrases. Rock giving orders in the Nation now and also isn't wearing the colors like the rest of the group. The pager stuff was a bit hokey when Rock was looking up a the Titanron and clearly could see Austin sneaking in behind him on the screen. Not the fault of the wrestlers though as they don't have control of production like stuff like that. Though Austin was giving it a go earlier when he was in the truck. soup23
Favorite thing happening in WWF right now. Rock feels like the guy of the Nation and they way they built up the difficulties to peak with Austin being revealed was well done. We get the beeper stunt and Rock gets beat up fannie pack and all. Austin and Rock look like stars here.
Robert S
By this point it's obvious that the Rock is the main guy of the Nation, surpassing Faarooq. He is even dressing differently from the other guys.
PeteF3
"Rocky Maivia and the Nation of Domination," as Cole's intro goes. No hiding who the big push is going to now. Despite the mic issues, Rock's familiar voice is starting to come together. We finally get the first hot segment of the episode, with Austin playing mind games with Rocky via the production truck and the semi-legendary shot of Rocky freaking out at his pager. Exposer
The Rock comes out & cuts a promo calling Austin a jackass. He had stolen Austin's IC belt during a melee the work before. This must of have been one of the first angles where a heel steals the belt. A loud "Rocky Sucks!" chant starts after the phrase pops up on the tron over & over again. The lights begin to dim as well & their seems to be production problems. Austin is hilarious in the production truck saying a kindergartener could do better than the production guy. He says whenever 3:16 shows up on Rock's beeper he knows he's in trouble. The tron cuts out & Rock is confused & angry. In a classic moment, his beeper goes off & realizes Austin's behind him. I've always loved his face there. Austin attacks & The Nation swarm. Austin retreats & brings a chair into the ring running them off. Hot segment. The crowd loved this & it's obvious the only thing really worth seeing in the WWF during this period is Austin.
...TG
Is this the first yearbook appearance of that late-90s staple of live pro wrestling, the red dot of the laser pointer on a wrestler cutting a promo?
