[1998-01-19-WWF-Raw] Interview: DX

Undertaker's music fires up and someone resembling Taker repels down from the ceiling. They have already said that Taker was not in the casket even though the PPV went off the air with it engulfed in flames. In the ring, "TAKER" asks the lights to be raised and in perfect unison, DX's music fires up to reveal Shawn. Who knows how bad Shawn was hurting here, but he is faking it well. Chyna and HHH come out with the grill and its time for the DX grill segment. HHH's suck the cook apron does make me chuckle. Chyna is bringing the biggest weinie to the BBQ. They make some fire jokes about last night. HHH cuts a pretty terrible promo on Owen calling him a boy which doesn't make a lot of sense. Shawn decides to stuff the salami down his pants. HHH says Space Mountain is old and broken. JR being a smart ass at HHH offering his services to all women is funny. Shawn in his delusion gimmick self says he beat Taker all on his own last night. HBK turns his attention to Austin and they start the road to Mania. Not a bad promo showing that Austin still has to beat HBK to be classified as the man.

Shawn pretending to be Undertaker and doing his whole entrance before just switching to the DX music is hilarious. HHH and Chyna soon follow with a grill, marshmallows and hot dogs, which gives them plenty of chances to make penis jokes. HHH is terrible. HHH makes fun of his supposed childhood idol Ric Flair. After we get past all the pointless stuff, Shawn mentions Austin for the first time and the crowd pops big. I like Shawn mentioning all the people he's beaten and pointing out that he has beaten a lot of guys in WCW too.

Plenty of penis jokes as well. This is one of the better DX segments.

Shawn stuffing the salami in his pants and pantomiming on it was something. Also the shot in the crowd of the redneck family going nuts at HHH's sexual innuendo (the dad has a "I want Chyna" sign, or something of that ilk. He reminded me of Kenny's Dad from Southpark) was pretty funny.

 

When Shawn shifts to Stone Cold the crowd really goes nuts. Does he run down that he's a two-time Rumble winner also? I couldn't recall but liked his "been there, done that" promo.

The fire jokes are better than the penis jokes--and Triple H, dammit, is starting to find himself on the mic. At least when he's talking about Owen. JR's reaction to his line about his rocket-penis was laugh-out-loud hilarious and funnier than almost any DX skit by itself. Michaels' delusional promo works since he's so over-the-top in talking about how he won singlehandedly. Then we shift gears: for the first time in months, Michaels and Austin are about to cross paths. Shawn talks a good game here but he's finally about to meet his match, thank goodness.

The epitome of why DX, in hindsight, is just fucking pathetic. I need to take a screen grab of Triple H in his "suck the cook" apron, paper chefs hat, glasses, and lions mane hair, preferably while he's playing with a hot dog or something and tweet it to him with a smart ass caption.

 

RATING: To think these men get to have sex with Stephanie McMahon and Nitro Girl Whisper just blows my mind.

[Exposer]

That was an awesome entrance. It made the reveal that it was Shawn even better. Hunter & Chyna come out after that & they bring a barbeque with them. Hunter & Shawn make dick jokes for a few minutes & include Owen in one of them. Hunter says he'll defend his European Title against Owen next week. Shawn talks himself up again & cuts a promo on Austin. He finishes by saying he doesn't lay down for anybody. They throw marshmellows into the crowd to close. Good segment that got annoying with the dick jokes, but I liked Shawn addressing Austin.
