The Destroyer is easily one of the best wrestlers I've ever seen - versatile, very clever on the mat, tremendously vocal wrestler, great as a heel, great as a face, does great comedy ... enough footage from Japan exists where I can comfortably rank him really really high. If more prime Destroyer footage shows up he could be top 10 on a GWE list. He'll always be really high on my personal favourites list. He's a very emotive worker. Superb technician. Personally I think it's undeniable that Destroyer has both the peak and the longevity to be a top candidate. It becomes a bit of an issue of extrapolation and how comfortable you are using some judgment in making a final call on how high you can rank him. Destroyer is someone I think of as a top 5 contender but when it comes time to make a list I sort of expect him more in that 7-15 range. But I think about him on that level. I have a vivid memory of being pulled in within minutes of hitting play on my first tape of his matches and that feeling that I was watching a uniquely brilliant performer never left me. Just the other day I thought "I wonder whats the best Destroyer vs Abdullah match" and I found and watched 3 of them and I liked all 3 and thought one of them was terrific. I also watched that tag match from Buffalo from the 50s against the Gallagher brothers for the first time and dug him there. I've never been disappointed by Destroyer. club Posted August 11, 2022 Report Share Posted August 11, 2022 Been on a Destroyer kick the past few weeks, and - from what I’ve seen - the guy is a top 20 contender. He’s great technically, charismatic, and quite the lovable rouge. He's versatile as well. He works his shithouse antics in brilliantly in his 63 match with Rikidozan and Baba in 69. He works a very compelling straight competitive style with Mil Mascaras in 73 and 74 and Hiro Matsuda in 75. He plays off his heel antics schtick to great effect against The Spirit in 75.
