SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV

Saturday 3rd September 1983

Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTVY Television Studio in Dothan, AL

Hosted by Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart

Before we go to the opening credits we are shown clips of this “Bullet” Bob Armstrong regaining his Southeastern Heavyweight Title from “Dirty” Dutch Mantell this Monday in Birmingham. The opening credits roll and we go to Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart who are at the announcer’s desk with new Southeastern Heavyweight Champion “Bullet” Bob Armstrong and his son Scott Armstrong. Bob addresses Dutch Mantell attacking his son Scott last week, but praises his boy for coming back this week. He goes on to say he took a beating but the spirit he showed tells him that Scott is ready to go full time as a wrestler and he will debut in a tag match with him tonight. Bob goes on to talk about how happy he is to have his title back and that if he can get through Dutch’s rematch for the title this Monday night he will have another crack at the NWA World Heavyweight Title the following week as World Champion Harley Race is back in the area and after last time when he came so close, he knows he will be able to win the World Title.

The Armstrong’s leave as Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart run through the massive card happening in Birmingham in two weeks, where not only will Harley Race be defending his title against either Bob Armstrong or Dutch Mantell, but also visiting are a very special tag team, and here’s a video of them. We roll to a video of none other than Stan Lane and Steve Keirn, The Fabulous Ones. ZZ Tops “Sharped Dress Man” music plays over a video of The Fabulous Ones mostly strutting about with their tops off and wrestling against The Assassins and The Wild Bills. The studio audience go wild for The Fabulous Ones. With this we have Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard come to the desk and say that they are the hottest new tag team in Southeastern Championship Wrestling and they are officially challenging The Fabulous Ones to a match.

=== Advert ===

This week’s first match we have Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard, who just challenged The Fabulous Ones, up against Javier Cruz and Vinnie Valentino, The Latin Lovers. In an action packed fast paced match, Eaton and Pritchard come out on top at 8 minutes following a Back Breaker Second Rope Elbow Drop combo from the impressive team of Eaton and Pritchard. Although looking very impressive, it’ll be interesting to see this brash team go up against The Fabulous Ones in 2 weeks.

=== Advert ===

We return to the announcer’s desk where Charlie Platt informs us that the Championship Committee has come to the conclusion to rebrand the United States Junior Title to the Southeastern Television Title and effective immediately Bill Ash will be known as the Southeastern Television Champion and we will have a 4 man tournament to crown a new number one contender TV Champion. At this moment Paul Jones and Television Champion “Professor” Bill Ash come to the announcer’s desk. Bill Ash hands his old United States Junior title belt and says his new title belt will be awarded to him once he beats the number one contender in 2 weeks.

=== Run down of this weeks action in Dothan, Penscola, Birmingham and Mobile ===

As we return, the opening match in the number 1 contender for the Television title tournament sees The Moondog defeating Josh Stroud in 6 minutes with a Big Splash followed by the pin. After the match Bill Ash gets into the ring and celebrates with stable mate The Moondog along with Paul Jones. It’s announced during the match that all TV title matches have a ten minute time limit and the title can only change hands within 10 minutes. The other 2 wrestlers to compete in the tournament are returning Charlie Cook and Ted Allen.

=== Advert ===

Southeastern Tag Team Champions Tim Horner and Ricky Gibson with manager Jim Cornette come out to talk with Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart, Gibson who has his ribs tapped up following a Double Splash from the Assassins on the concrete floor this past week. Gibson won’t be in action this week due to this. At this point Paul Jones and his Assassins make their way to the interview arena and begin to mock the champions. Jim Cornette injects himself and tell the Assassins that his team even with one man at 50% could still defeat them. Jones tell Cornette not to write cheques his men can’t back up, Cornette again jumps in and tells The Assassins to meet them in a title match this Monday in Birmingham. At this point both Gibson and Horner look miffed, Cornette convinces them they can do it, and they agree to the delight of the fans.

=== Run down of this weeks action in Dothan, Penscola, Birmingham and Mobile ===

Returning to the area 6”3 and former NFL Football Player Charlie Cook up against Ted Allen in the number 1 contender for the Television title tournament. In Cook’s return to the area he was successful in victory when he defeated Allen with a Running Football Tackle after 7 minutes. While Cook is celebrating Bill Ash and The Moondog charge the ring and attacks Cook, clearly trying to put Cook out of action and Paul Jones Army can keep the TV title within the stable.

=== Advert ===

We’re back with Southeastern Heavyweight Champion “Bullet” Bob Armstrong and his son Scott Armstrong defeating The Masked Medics in 6 minutes when Scott hit a Running Bulldog on Medic number 1 much to the delight of the studio audience.

=== Run down of this weeks action in Dothan, Penscola, Birmingham and Mobile ===

We join Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart who show footage of the war that happened on Monday night in Birmingham between the Fuller family and the Rich family. Today’s main event sees Larry Hamilton and Johnny Rich facing off with Jimmy Golden and Robert Fuller. The match doesn’t take long before it spills out to the floor and Ron Fuller runs out from the back to make it a 3 on 2 fight, this of course brings out “Wildfire” Tommy Rich to even the odds. The Rich’s with Hamilton manage to fight off the Fuller’s and Golden who retreat to the back. The Rich’s and Larry Hamilton join Platt and Stewart where Tommy challenges Ron, Robert and Jimmy to a Bunkhouse brawl this week in Birmingham.

I'm gonna miss having the Gerald Brisco approvedCharlie Cook on my roster but at least he's found a home where he'll be loved.

I love the idea of Eaton & Pritchard against The Fabs especially when you think about how both guys ended up being partners of Stan Lane in real life.

SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV

Saturday 10th September 1983

Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTVY Television Studio in Dothan, AL

Hosted by Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart

We open with video clips of the shocking return of The Flame to Southeastern Championship Wrestling when he cost “Bullet” Bob Armstrong his Southeastern Heavyweight Title. The credits roll and we go to Rick Stewart and Charlie Platt who have “Dirty” Dutch Mantell and The Flame with them. Before Charlie Platt gets to welcome the fans to this week’s television program Dutch Mantell steps in and takes up the camera. He tells Platt how happy he is to welcome back The Flame and would like to thanks him for his efforts in restoring order here in Southeastern Championship Wrestling. And also The Flame doesn’t need to look over his shoulder as “Bullet” Bob is barred from TV this week. But as a reward for his help he has got something very special in store for him, but he will have to wait until later in the show for it. Charlie Platt interrupts Dutch and tell him that The Flame may not see “Bullet” Bob today but he will be seeing him this Monday as Bob Armstrong has ask for a 1-on-1 match with The Flame and the Southeastern Governing Body has agreed and the match is signed, Dutch tell The Flame not to concern himself but look forward to his gift.

=== Advert ===

We return to Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart who run down todays card, we will be hearing from The Fabulous Ones before their contest with Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard, “Rookie” Scott Armstrong will be in action, we will have the final of the Number 1 Contenders Tournament for the TV title and NWA World Champion Harley Race will be in action before his World Title defence on Monday when he goes up against Johnny Rich.

First match of the show sees “Rookie” Scott Armstrong up against Tony Falk. In an even contest Scott manages to get the victory around the 4 minute mark when the rookie hits a Superkick followed by the 3 count. After the match Scott comes to talk with Charlie and Rick around his father’s disappointment at losing the Southeastern Heavyweight Title, he tells Platt and Stewart that although his dad is barred from TV, he would like to get a message to Dutch Mantell and The Flame via phone and would it be okay to call him. Charlie Platt says that’s fine and pulls out a phone from under the announcers table and Scott calls his dad, Scott starts talking to his dad and relays his thoughts about The Flame and Dutch Mantell. Suddenly from the back “Dirty” Dutch Mantell runs out and jumps Scott from behind. Dutch picks up the phone and says hello to “Bullet” Bob and tells him he’s going to look after his boy while he isnt here and he can hear for himself just in case he’s in doubt. Dutch drags Scott into the ring and calls out The Flame and tells him that this is his present for helping him out. The Flame comes out and starts to attack Scott, saying he hates the Armstrong’s and continues to beat him down. “Dirty” Dutch goes back to the phone, goes to speak in it but its gone dead, he laughs and walks off, with The Flame as 5 referees have escorted him from the ring to stop the attack.

=== Advert ===

We return with the medical team still looking over Scott Armstrong in the ring, Charlie Platt says it’s best to go a video interview of Stan Lane and Steve Keirn, The Fabulous Ones while Scott is helped. They tell the fans they are very much looking forward to Monday night and facing off with a very good tag team in Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard. But come Monday it won’t count for much as they will be taking home the winner’s cheque. We return to Charlie Platt who inform the fans in Birmingham that Mondays show will be now in fact be held in the much bigger Jefferson Civic Centre due to the initial ticket allocation being sold out, all tickets will be honoured.

Next up we see Tom Pritchard taking on Mike Jackson and defeating him in 4 minutes following a Top Rope Elbow Drop, and the pin. Tom Pritchard was join by his partner Bobby Eaton, who join the announcing team to talk trash about The Fabulous Ones.

=== Run down of this weeks action in Dothan, Penscola, Birmingham and Mobile ===

We return from the break with the Number One Contender Match for the TV Title currently held by “Professor” Bill Ash. The final will see stable mate of the champion The Moondog with Paul Jones up against Charlie Cook, like all TV Title matches this match will have a 10 minute time limit. Due to the time limit this match has a sense of urgency to it. Charlie Cook manages to get the win following a Football Tackle at 7 minutes that caught The Moondog off guard and Cook got the pinful. Following the match Bill Ash and Paul Jones storm the ring only for Cook to get out of harm’s way quickly.

=== Advert ===

The Nightmares (Danny Davis & Ken Wayne) defeat the team of Gene Ligon and Josh Stroud when The Nightmares used their impressive Tombstone Piledriver and Middle Rope Leg Drop combo before the pinful and the victory at 6 minutes. The Nightmares look a real handful and the Tag Team Champions should watch out.

=== Run down of this weeks action in Dothan, Penscola, Birmingham and Mobile ===

Today’s main event sees NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race take on Johnny Rich. The match starts with a lot of back and forth chain wrestling only for Race to take an early advantage, Johnny Rich puts up a valiant fight but Harley Race is just too strong and gets the win after 9 minutes following a Knee Drop. Following the bell The Studd Stable, Jimmy Golden, Ron and Robert Fuller, storm the ring and start to attack Johnny Rich, only for “Wildfire“ Tommy Rich and Larry Hamilton to closely follow to even the odds. The locker rooms empties to split the 6 men up as we go to break.

=== Advert ===

We return with the ringside area finally being cleared of the 6 men brawling leaving NWA World Champion Harley Race in the ring after his victory, then out comes from behind the melee Southeastern Heavyweight Champion and NWA World Champion Number 1 Contender “Dirty” Dutch Mantell and The Flame. Both men get in the ring either side of Race and attack the World Champion. Clearly Mantell wants to weaken Race before his World Title match. Charlie Platt informs us that while this is happening in the ring, there is a commotion in the parking lot. A camera finally gets outside and it’s the Studd Stable and The Rich’s with Larry Hamilton brawling in the parking lot. When a cars speeds around the corner, pulls up and out comes………… ”BULLET” BOB ARMSTRONG. Armstrong makes his way to the studio door and Charlie Platt tells the camera to follow him as he’s not meant to be here. Armstrong makes his way towards the ring where Mantell and The Flame are still brawling with Harley Race, who trying to put up a fight. Flame and Mantell haven’t caught Armstrong in there in eye line yet, Armstrong picks up the pace and charges the ring and is a house of fire attacking both Mantell and Flame. We now have the unlikely alliance of Harley Race and Bob Armstrong fighting on the same side. Charlie Platt informs us that we are running out of time with a 2 on 2 brawl happening in the ring.

=== Show Ends ===

Quick Results

1. Scott Armstrong defeats Tony Falk in 4 minutes following a Superkick.

2. Tom Pritchard defeats Mike Jackson in 4 minutes.

Charlie Cook, The Nightmares, Bob Armstrong, Dutch Mantell,The Flame, The Fabs so many of my favorites here on this episode. I really liked this week's show with the Scott Armstrong stuff and then Bob Armstrong showing up at the end of the show to save Harley Race. I'm hoping for a Bullet/Race vs. Mantell/Flame match to come out of that.

Good idea to use Race in a more positive light since as World Champion he can fulfill whatever role is necessary for each promotion. Strange bedfellows with Armstrong as an ally.

Waiting for Rookie Armstrong to snap and use a sledgehammer on Mantell and the Flame.

Monday's show sounds absolutely stacked.
