Boxing notes:

1) Foreman lost to Tommy Morrison in May/June 1993, and didn't fight until he beat Moorer in November 1994.

2) Foreman only won the WBA/IBF belts. The WBC broke off in 93 once Riddick Bowe madusa'ed the WBC belt instead of fighting Lennox Lewis. The WBA stripped Foreman quickly after, and the IBF stripped him since Foreman didn't want to fight Axel Schultz again.

Foreman losing his last fight to Morrison made Foreman getting a shot more peculiar to some people. Although it was probably a "Michael Moorer wants an easy defense" thing and I don't know who they had facing Moorer in 95 before he lost to Foreman (and before Tyson got out of prison to butcher the non-Holyfield/Lewis parts of the division)

Outside of Lennox Lewis for a few months in 1999/2000, the top 3 belts haven't been unified for 20+ years. But considering the HW ranks, not much of value has been lost through not having unified belts. Plus, it got John Ruiz 10 reigns with the WBA belt.

if Onita couldn't bring Larry Holmes over for a one-shot, what chance did Inoki really have?

so.. off the top of my head.. 1980s boxers that had cameos in Japan... Leon Spinks, Trevor Berbick, Matthew Saad Muhammad in UWFI... and I think that's it... unless Iran Barkley or Gerrie Coetzee had a run in W*ING that i'm forgetting. Greg Page or Mike Weaver may have dropped in there.

Also, weren't La Parka, El Dandy and Silver King around WCW after a purge of the luchadores? I think Dandy/Silver King got one of those syndicated show pushes as Los Fabulosos around the time that the company was getting sued by Oono (Ono?). Maybe they brought in other guys coincidentally to try and buttress the force of lawsuits.

I like that you guys mention the cosmetics of WWF TV in 1994. It really is such a weird time, almost 70's in its presentation. They ran such small towns too, Burlington VT, Poughkeepsie. Everything is just so...quiet for lack of a better word.

With hearing K.C. O'Connor's name brought up again, did he just drop off the wrestling fandom map after his SMW stint? Has anyone heard from him in all these years? I'm kind of curious if he went on to be a successful business man like Sign Guy Dudley or something.

Well, there's this.

Another knock out show....hearing the Art Barr / Eddy Stories from after the match were great....I wonder if really handed 100 G's beforehand if they stiff Octagon in the segunda caida and forcably pin him?

That would have sent shockwaves...although Eddie and Art wouldnt be able to go near Mexico or even the border afterward.

How would they have handled that on TV on within AAA? Would Santo have taken it off or would they try some way to change it? The show wasnt over yet, so they couldnt just cut to black...Kris / Bix, any clue what could have happened?

That would have made Montreal look like child's play with all the history and importance of Santo and the mask in Mexico...

Kris, something you've mentioned a couple of times and it's got me thinking - you said Sid did his best work in Memphis. I was always of the opinion that late 96 and into 97 with Michaels and Bret was his best. Any particular matches in Memphis top that?

Posted

Well the problem is with Sid in Memphis is that you don't have complete matches to really go by but in clip form he looked like a different worker than anywhere else.....
