Grimmas
Big news coming out of Emresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL) during their annual Christmas break. Everything started when Salvador "Chavo" Lutteroth Jr. retired as promoter leaving his nephew Paco Alonso (grandson of Salvador Lutteroth) to take over. Alonso made great waves immediately by mending fences with Francisco Flores and Ray Mendoza who had left in 1975 to form Lucha Libre Internacional (later called UWA). EMLL and UWA will be united under one banner as Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). CMLL also pulled out of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and no longer recognizes their champions. This new era deserves a new legacy, and the NWA is now in our past. The Mexican National Champions will be the titles recognized by the CMLL going forward. This leaves a lot of excitement in the air for the next Super Viernes (Super Friday) on January 4th, 1985 at Arena Mexico with new talent and new leadership. It may take several Fridays before we know what this new CMLL is all about. Paco Alonso made it clear the schedules would remain the same and Super Viernes would remain the biggest show of the week, with the highlights airing on Television on Sunday afternoons. I can't handle 20 titles and wanted the fresh start with the new name, that came from leaving the NWA.

Grimmas
Ray Mendoza has been named head trainer of CMLL and has announced his first student in Miguel Perez Jr. from Puerto Rico. Mendoza thinks Perez has great promise and an interesting look and it helps that he is the son of the legendary Miguel Perez, who is one of the greatest draws in the history of Madison Square Gardens. Perez Jr. will start with some smaller arenas, but don't be surprised if he wrestles at Arena Mexico by summer time.
LowBlowPodcast
I am pumped to bring in Mexico to our game world. It can be such a different vibe than Japan or the US. With the honor that goes into Mexican wrestling, these shows will be can't miss.
Grimmas
The new era of Arena Mexico will begin on January 4th as Super Viernes returns! Paco Alonso, the new President of CMLL, will be there in person as the world's oldest wrestling promotion rebrands itself. Alonso will also welcome the incoming talent from UWA personal! Two huge trios matches will headline the return of Super Viernes with one featuring the top stars of CMLL and the other featuring the new stars of CMLL. In what could become a wild brawl, as the tehnicos with captain Cien Caras y Sangre Chicano y Perro Aguayo will take on the rudos of Los Infernales consisting of Captain El Satanico y MS-1 y Pirata Morgan. Chicano and MS-1 have had a legendary rivalry in the past and everybody in this contest is known for their brawling. Expect a war. In the other main event, two of the top trios and familia's in Mexico make their way to Arena Mexico as the technico Los Brazos (Captain Brazo de Oro y El Brazo y Brazo de Plata) will meet the rudo Los Villanos (Captain Villano III y Villano IV y Villano V). These two trios have been the talk of UWA and now they will be the talk of Mexico. The technico Mexican National Light Heavyweight Champion Valente Fernández will defend his title against the young upstart rudo Negro Casas. Casas has a lot of confidence and wants to take home a title as he starts the next part of his career. A few more matches will be announced in the next few weeks. Grimmas
I just realized some people may not understand lucha libre rules. For trios matches, once somebody goes to the outside a partner may enter. No need to tag. All matches are 2/3 Falls. Now, for trios match this is the important part. You only win the fall by either pinning the captain or by pinning the other two members of the team. That is why I listed the captains above. Automatic DQ for a low blow or ripping off the mask. Masks and Hair are more important than titles. Titles defended like once or twice a year and usually champions keep the belts for years. Titles not the big deal, but unmasking or shaving your opponent's head is. Heels=rudos Babyfaces=technicos Those are called such by the fans, and there are rudo fans. Essentially a rudo cheats and has a rougher style, while the technico works a technical and clean style. That's the main things that are different. gordi
Good Lord. Going with Los Brazos vs Los Villanos on your first card.. and it's not even the Main Event!!
Grimmas
A word on my reporting. So, I'm ignoring the 12 other shows CMLL does a week. Just imagine it's random trios with nothing of consequence happening. For "Super Viernes" on Friday nights you will get all the results. If that is a big event like the Anniversary Show you will get a full write up of everything. Then on Sunday with the CMLL TV, you will get ridiculous lucha skits, plus more descriptions of the matches that air. This will keep it easy for me to keep up with. LowBlowPodcast
I don't mind the format of the show. It is going to take some getting used to in terms of the language and wrestlers as I have very little knowledge of these guys. I will definitely be paying close attention and keeping tabs on some of the characters. I am sure that the television will clear things up for me.
