Grimmas
I'm taking requests for which two matches appear on Television this week.
SirEdger
I think you should put the match involving Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez and the main event.
LowBlowPodcast
I think you should put the match involving Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez and the main event. Â I think this is the best way to kind of hook us in and then the other match should be someone you want to showcase in upcoming months. gordi
The Main Event and the one with the gringos does seem like the way to go, though I would also accept either the Brazos or the Villanos match.
kevinmcfl
I agree that we as leaders of mostly USA promotions, I think we got to see Adams and Hernandez. As for the other TV match, it would be nice to get more familiar with whoever you are going to push if there is such a thing in Lucha Libre
agentofenton
As I am catching up on all the action from the new year, this has been super intriguing and a very fun read. I appreciate, like everyone has stated, the format you have going here. It is extremely creative and helps us that don't follow the Mexican culture as much as we'd like. Thank you for this. Grimmas
excerpts from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Letter's Page for January 23th, 1985 Dear Dave, This was the best week of CMLL since I started watching! Last week we had a promo from The Dynamic Duo about coming into CMLL this week and boy did it deliver. If you thought The Sheiks had heat, you have not seen anything yet. The Dynamic Ones came to the ring with American flags and just pissed off the entire arena. They were teamed up with an ugly man called Emilio Charles Jr. who seems to be pretending he is very beautiful. It's kind of funny, but he is pretty hated too. Especially hated teaming with the Americans here. They took on Valente Fernandez, the guy who lost the title the first week, and the Mendoza brothers who are the tag team champions. Thy Dynamic team won two straight falls and took every opportunity to piss off the crowd. They challenged the Mendozas for the tag team titles next week! That's going to be a hoot. Which brings me to a question, how is CMLL taping these? They seem to be the same building every time, but how many shows are they taping at once? I don't really get this structure. This match was followed by a cool video package of Perro Aguayo who was seemingly playing chess, however El Satanico's face appeared on the King chess piece and started insulting him and saying he would take him out of wrestling. Very bizarre, but very cool. We then got a video package of Los Villanos facing the team of Super Astro, Solar, and Ultraman. Two masked teams. The Villanos were rougher, but the other team was really slick. The match seemed to have a lot of cool highlights, including some incredible dives by one of the Astro, Solar, and Ultraman team members (sorry can't tell them apart, they are all in similar masks and outfits.) The main event had Los Brazos (the masked team where one of them was hugely fat from the first episode) taking on Jerry Estrada (kind of a heel version of Ricky Morton looking guy), Espanto Jr. (who was in a black outfit with a cool mask), and Kato Kung Lee (a masked ninja?). This went close to 30 minutes and was all action. To my surprise the fat Brazos (they kept saying Super Porky on commentary) was incredibly agile and his a nice array of flying. In fact everyone here was really athletic and acrobatic. Los Brazos won in the third fall when two Brazos pinned Espanto and Kung lee simultaneously. A really fun match and a great way to end the show. Stan Grimmas Thanks again Stan, I've heard about Los Brazos and am hoping you could start sending me the tapes. The Satanico and Perro feud seems to be heating up as well, I've heard houses are really good with them headlining shows on opposing teams. As for your question, CMLL runs 6-8 shows a week on a weekly schedule. Every Friday night they run their big "Super Viernes" i.e. Super Friday show at Arena Mexico and show highlights on the TV. That is what you are watching. What is interesting is that they own Arena Mexico themselves. Dave Metlzer
gordi
I wonder if Dick Togo was a fan of Super Porky, growing up.

Grimmas
Dear Dave,  sorry no time for a full in depth report this week, life is hectic. I did catch the show though.  The biggest news is that the Dynamic Duo won the tag team titles. The moment they came out with Ameircan flags I thought the fans were going to kill them. The match was short but heated, especially the last two minutes. It was the third fall all evened up, when Gino pinned Cachorro with a inside cradle holding the tights. That left Ringo Mendoza all alone with both members of the Dynamic Duo. He fought valiantly and the crowd was going nuts, but a superkick out of nowhere gave them the Tag Team Titles.  The other match was Sangre Chicana and Pirata Morgan having a great brawl. They had Satanico and Perro Aguayo as their seconds and they brawled too. A real chaotic scene.  Sorry about the brief report!  Stan Grimmas  Dear Stan,  thanks again for the report and the tapes. Yeah the show was great and I suggest everybody check it out. More heat than you get almost anywhere else in the world.  The other great thing about this show was this ridiculous backstage vignette. You had the UWA team of Negro Casas, Blue Panther, Babe Face, & Black Terry all sitting around a roasted pig at a large dinning room table. They put a CMLL flag on top of it and carved it up, explaining how there plans are to take CMLL apart and how inferior it is to Universal Wrestling. They called themselves Los Guerreros del Universo (The Universal Warriors). Awesome and ridiculous stuff!
