Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN,

 

Steven Regal vs. Dennis Condrey

 

 

British Steel and the Midnight Express are headed for an epic showdown at San Diego Battleground. The loser of the fall of that match will be forced to leave Pacific Coast Wrestling, which means that one of those two teams will be no more , not just in PCW but anywhere. This had to be at the top of both competitors minds as Steven Regal and Dennis Condrey squared off in a singles match. Young Regal brought his considerable technical skills to the fray, catching Condrey in several rollups and submission holds. But Condrey was able to bring his own deep well of cunning experience, always finding a way out of any trap, by hook or by crook. This proved to be the deciding factor as Condrey was able to block an attempted Regal-Plex and hook Regal in an inside cradle for the one two three. Not a good omen for San Diego Battleground and British Steel may well be worried for their high stakes match.

 

Eddie Gilbert vs. Randy Rose

 

Gilbert has been doing battle with the Crazy Gang, most notably with "Cowboy" Bob Orton. Tonight, he would face one half of the Vice Squad in "Ravishing" Randy Rose.  While Rose was quite a handful for "Hot Stuff" to deal with, the former Pacific Heavyweight Champ was ultimately able to take the win when he caught Rose coming off the ropes and hit the Hot Shot. But as he was going for the pinfall, Bob Orton came out and started jawing with Gilbert's manager Missy Hyatt. Hyatt wasn't going to take any of his guff and actually slapped his face when he went to far. An enraged Bob Orton grabbed her by the wrist , and Missy had a few moments of pure terror before her man Eddie came storming out of the ring to her rescue, chasing Orton back to the locker room. Sooner or later, these two will have to have their ultimate showdown.

 

Badd Company & Vic Steamboat vs. The Bomb Squad (Chris Candido & Al Snow) & Jack Victory

 

 

 

Unsurprisingly, Missy Hyatt did not join her younger charges for this match, and the effect of that showed. Badd Company seemed unfocused and off kilter in this match, only tagging with each other and failing to bring Steamboat into the match. The members of the Hollywood Knights hungrily took advantage of that during the match, and Tanaka failed to notice Snow doing a sneak tag in to Victory. Victory blindsided Tanaka with a clothesline to the back of the head , then hammered on him with lefts and rights before executing the Victory Plex for the pinfall. A disappointing result for Badd Company and Steamboat, and Tanaka and Diamond seemed particularly dejected. Steamboat tried to give them a pep talk and be supportive , but Tanaka and Diamond didn't want to hear any of it.

 

Larry Cameron vs. Ed Gantner

 

 

Two other teams locked in an epic feud are the Wild Bulls and Iron & Steel, having been locked in a war with each other for much of the year. This singles match between two members of each team was a hard hitting power battle, with the two muscular grapplers throwing everything they had at each other. Gantner was incredibly close to taking the win when he went for the Bull Hammer (running forearm smash to the face), but Cameron blocked it with a boot to the chest, then followed up with the Harlem Hammer (running double axehandle to the back of the head and neck). A hard fought win, but one gets the feeling that the final battle between these two teams is coming up fast.

 

Battle Royal for a Pacific Heavyweight Title shot at San Diego Battleground : One Man Gang, Stan Hansen, Ron Simmons, Barry Windham, Tony St. Clair, Ed Wiskowski , Shane Douglas, Steve Blackman, Brian Knobbs , Rick Steiner, Brian Adams, Chris Adams, Vic Steamboat, Joel Deaton, Mr. Hito, Nick Busick, The Great Muta, Brickhouse Brown, Brian Pillman, Hector Guerrero

 

The main event had incredibly high stakes, with the winner getting a shot at the Pacific Heavyweight Title at San Diego Battleground, currently held by "Playboy" Buddy Rose. Brian Adams and Chris Adams immediately went after each other, which ended up costing them as Nick Busick and Ed Wiskowski took advantage and used their focus on each other to toss them from the ring. Several wrestlers tried to gang up on the One Man Gang, trying to get him out early, but the big 747 would not go out so easy, fighting off his attackers and throwing out Steamboat and Brickhouse. Tony St. Clair had a good night, eliminating Ed Wiskowski, Rick Steiner and Brian Knobbs, but Muta caught him with a blast of the green mist to the face before spin kicking him out of the ring. An impressive elimination but he took to much time gloating over it, leading to Douglas and Blackman hitting a double dropkick to send him flying out of the ring. The two members of Black Gold worked well together, also eliminating Joel Deaton and Mr. Hito, but Stan Hansen put an end to their run with a double lariat. It eventually came down to a final four of One Man Gang, Stan Hansen , Ron Simmons and Barry Windham. Two of the biggest men in the Crazy Gang versus two of the biggest men in the Brigade. After several minutes of vicious brawling, Hansen had Simmons set up for elimination when he went for a big shoulder tackle. But Simmons was able to grab him when he was hit, and both men went tumbling out of the ring together. It was now down to Gang and Windham. Windham did his best, but the huge Gang had such an overwhelming size advantage that it was hard to make a dent in him. Gang battered the Sweetwater native and got ready for the killing blow when he whipped Windham hard into the corner and came in for an Avalanche. But Barry dodged out of the way at the last second, and Gang crashed chest first into the corner. Barry took advantage of the momentum and hurled Gang out of the ring. Barry Windham was the winner! The tall Texan was triumphant and would go on to challenge for the Pacific Heavyweight Title at San Diego Battleground. The other members of the Brigade rushed out to the ring and congratulated him as the fans cheered him on.

Badd Co. really had a hard time without Missy.

I had no idea who would win the battle royal. A lot of personal vendettas clashing. Windham overcomes the odds and sends OMG over the top to earn a shot at the title. Rose vs. Windham...OH YEA! 

Another 2 night extravaganza coming up. Damn, look at those matches signed. This is going to be AWESOME!

The Japanese veteran really took it to Owen, but the young Snowbird prevailed with a reverse flying body press

 

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Joel Deaton

 

The Beast From The East pinned the tough Texan with a slingshot splash

 

The Thundercats (Too Cold Scorpio & Norman Smiley) vs. The Bomb Squad (Chris Candido & Al Snow)

 

Once again, the Thundercats tried to match their opponents in dirty tactics, but the Bomb Squad won when Snow pinned Scorpio with a Snow-Plex (wheelbarrow suplex)

 

Black Tiger & Black Gold (Steve Blackman & Shane Douglas) vs. Fit Finlay & The Dog Pound (Brian Knobbs & Rick Steiner)

 

An intense six man match that ended with Black Tiger hitting a tombstone piledriver on Steiner for the victory

 

Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Badd Company

 

Once again, Badd Company came out without Missy Hyatt and had trouble gaining any traction against the champs, who successfully defended their titles with a Double Goozle on Diamond

 

Barry Windham vs. Ed Wiskowski

 

Clearly the Polish Prince was under orders from his boss Buddy Rose to make sure Windham was in no shape for his title shot at San Diego Battleground, as Easy Ed seemed far more interested in trying to injure Barry than pin him. But Windham toughed it out and showed he could dish it as well as take it, finally putting Wiskowski down with a running Bulldog Headlock.

 

Pacific Heavyweight Title Cage Match : Buddy Rose © vs. Tony St. Clair

 

The Playboy had nowhere to run to in this match, and couldn't call on the help of the Playboy Club to bail him out. St. Clair bounced him around the cage, and it looked like the title would finally be his. St. Clair wound up for the spinning forearm smash, but Rose ducked, evidently hoping that St. Clair would end up hitting the referee like before. However, it was all a feint from St. Clair, who waited until Rose looked up and then clobbered him with the spinning forearm. Unfortunately, Rose went flying into the ref, so that when he went for the pin, there was no one to make the count. When he went over to help up the ref, a recovered Rose ambushed him with a low blow from behind. Rose followed up with the Inside Out Backbreaker and the ref made the three count, failing to notice that Rose had his feet propped up on the ropes. Will anyone be able to pry the title loose from the Playboy?

Ok I know she had a tense encounter with Orton but Hyatt isn't doing Badd Company any favors no-showing their matches.

Windham guts it out against Easy Ed while Rose puts his issue with St Clair to rest in the cage. Can't wait for their clash in San Diego.

Robbie Brookside vs. Hector Guerrero

 

A very fast paced match where Brookside gave Hector a real run for his money until he was ultimately pinned with the Guerrero Clutch

 

Vic Steamboat vs. Randy Rose

 

Steamboat was able to prevail over the veteran rose with a flying cross body press

 

Jeff Jarrett & Dan Severn vs. Chavo & Mando Guerrero

 

A thrilling tag match where Jarrett and Severn held their own against the Guerrero Brothers until Chavo was able to catch Jeff in a German Suplex for the win

 

Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Keiichi Yamada & Hiroshi Hase vs. Tracy Smothers, Jack Victory, Chris Candido & Al Snow

 

Tonight, Owen Hart led his fellow Snowbirds into war with the Hollywood Knights. And what a war it was, with the ref struggling to maintain control and both teams looking at different points like they would take the match. It looked like things would go to the Knights when Smothers had Victory hold Owen in place for a savate kick. But Owen was able to dodge out of the way and Smothers kicked Victory instead. While Smothers tried to apologize to Victory, Yamada took advantage of the distraction by rolling up Smothers while Owen and Pillman held off Victory, giving the win to the Snowbirds. Smothers and Victory were clearly arguing all the way back to the locker room, while Candido and Snow could be seen whispering to each other behind their backs.

 

Barry Windham, Mike Rotunda & Tom Magee vs. The Hart Foundation & TNT

 

At San Diego Battleground, Tom Magee will team with Scott Hall to face the Hart Foundation for the Golden State Tag Titles, but tonight he would be working with his Brigade colleagues Windham and Rotunda to face the Harts along with TNT. The result was an epic match, including a duel of kicks between Magee and TNT, as well as Magee hitting a spectacular Thrust Kick on Neidhart that sent the Anvil flying out of the ring. The MVP for Gary Hart's men was once again Bret Hart, who had showdowns in the ring with both Windham and Rotunda that had the fans reeling. The match ended in a 20 minute time limit draw leaving the crowd craving more of this matchup.

 

Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bubba Rogers © vs. Brian Adams

 

While Big Bubba has been pretty much steamrolling over all challengers since winning the TV title, the big Hawaiian proved to be quite a considerable challenge for him. He came the closest of all challengers so far to knocking the Louisville Slugger off his feet as he rocked him with big punches and clothesline. Unfortunately, while the ref was ordering Jim Cornette not to interfere, Chris Adams sneaked into the ring and knocked down Brian Adams with a superkick to the back of the head. Big Bubba followed up with a big splash to put an end to the American Ninja's challenge. While Cornette and Bubba left the ring, cackling all the way, Chris Adams and TNT proceeded to continue the attack on Brian Adams until Vic Steamboat rushed out and ran them off. Steamboat then helped Brian up and back to the locker room.

Yamada gets a win over longtime rival Smothers & maybe puts a dent in the Hollywood Knight's armor.

I loved that battle royal! What a final four! I'm really looking forward to seeing if Barry Windham can pull off a victory at Battleground. The Snowbirds are such a cool team, and eight-man matches are a real treat!

Trouble brewing between Smothers and Hollywood Jack. I have a feeling the Bomb Squad might be branching out soon. 

That 6 man tag team draw had the fans on the edge of their seats. 

Bubba and Brian go hard for the TV title and then Chris Adams plays spoiler. Adams vs. Adams coming up.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, on ESPN / TSN, October 29^th

 

Tony St. Clair vs. Mr. Hito

 

 

 

Tony St. Clair is gunning for the Great Muta after the face painted one eliminated him in the big battle royal, costing him a shot at the Pacific Heavyweight Title. He will get that match at San Diego Battleground, but first he will have to get through Muta's stable mate, Mr. Hito. Hito was certainly not going to be taken lightly , lacing into St. Clair with brutal kicks and stretching him with intense submission holds. St. Clair was able to outlast this onslaught, fighting his way out of the holds and firing back with his own shots. St. Clair blocked an attempted takedown and executed the Floating Butterfly Suplex for the win. A big victory, but he has an even sterner test ahead of him in the Great Muta.

 

Hiroshi Hase vs. TNT

 

 

 

Ever since arriving in PCW, the Caribbean Nightmare known as TNT has torn through the opposition like a buzzsaw. In this match, young Hase gave a good accounting of himself but in the end it just wasn't enough. TNT hit the Caribbean Kick and that was that. TNT is on a rampage and it doesn't look like anyone can stop him.

 

Owen Hart vs. Al Snow

 

 

 

In what many were calling the sleeper match of the night, two of the young up and comers in PCS put on an incredible display of wrestling skill. These two had the fans reeling and rocking with a fast paced match that kept them on the edge of their seats. As near fall followed near fall, the fans were spellbound, until finally Owen hit a belly to belly suplex and kept Snow down for the one two three. The fans gave them a standing ovation as the two shook hands following the match.

 

Jeff Jarrett & Dan Severn vs. Chavo & Mando Guerrero

 

    

 

These are two teams who both have matches coming up at San Diego Battleground, and were both looking to go in with the momentum on their side. The Guerreros had the experience advantage for this match, but Severn and Jarrett were not about to be intimidated, and fought back against the brothers with everything they had. It looked like it would be all over for the Odd Couple when Mando had Jarrett set up for a German Suplex. But Jarrett countered by flipping over Mando's back and trapping him with a schoolboy rollup that just barely held his shoulders to the mat for a one two three. The Guerreros were furious at the decision, but there was no denying the impressive victory by Jarrett and Severn.

 

Barry Windham vs. Rick Steiner

 

 

 

Windham is coming in on a real high, with his victory at the big battle royal ensuring him a shot against Buddy Rose for the Pacific Heavyweight Title at San Diego Battleground. Tonight, the Playboy sent out one of the members of the Playboy Club, one half of the Dog Pound Rick Steiner, to do as much damage as possible. Steiner is a powerful man and managed some impressive slams and suplexes on the big man from Sweetwater. Windham was able to come back and show why he was the number one contender, knocking down Steiner with clotheslines and a spectacular vertical suplex out of the corner. He finally caught Steiner in an Oklahoma Roll that secured him the pinfall. If Buddy Rose wasn't afraid for the safety of his title, he certainly should be now.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN , October 30^th

 

Ron Simmons vs. Bob Orton

 

A hard hitting match where ultimately Simmons was able to knock Orton off his feet and get the win with the Running Spear

 

Jeff Jarrett vs. Hector Guerrero

 

Young Jeff went all out against Hector in an incredible fast paced match but the experience of Guerrero spelled the difference when he was able to trap Jarrett in the Guerrero Clutch to score the pinfall

 

Scott Hall & Tom Magee vs. Mando & Chavo Guerrero

 

Hector's brothers gave a very tough challenge to Hall and Magee, but Gator and Megaman would not be denied, focused as they are on their upcoming challenge to the Hart Foundation's Golden State Tag Team Titles. Hall pinned Mando after the Gator Breaker (fallaway slam)

 

The Thundercats (Too Cold Scorpio & Norman Smiley) vs. The Wild Bulls (Ed & Rick Gantner)

 

The Wild Bulls were clearly looking to send a message as they administered a brutal beat down to the Thundercats. The Bullpen were ecstatic as they his power move after power move on Scorpio and Smiley, finally putting them out of their misery when Rick executed the Hangman's Drop (two handed chokeslam) on Smiley. But that was not enough, as they continued attacking until they were ordered back to the locker room by security. Both Scorpio and Smiley had to be taken out on stretchers, and Iron & Steel had best be concerned about their upcoming San Diego Battleground match with the Gantner Brothers.

 

Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bubba Rogers © vs. Larry Cameron

 

Speaking of Iron & Steel, Larry Cameron challenged Big Bubba Rogers for the TV title. While Rogers has been dominant in his reign, the former BC Lion gave him quite a run for his money, knocking him about with big clothelines and tackles without quite getting him off his feet. It seemed like he might just pull it off when he had Rogers lined up for the Harlem Hammer (running double axehandle to the back of the head and neck). But with startling quickness, Big Bubba whirled around and caught him in a Bubba Slam to put an end to his challenge. A narrow escape, but still another convincing victory for the Louisville Slugger.

 

Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda vs. Buddy Rose & Ed Wiskowski

 

The Playboy seemed desperate to avoid matching up with Windham in this match, doing everything to keep his main henchman Easy Ed trying to do as much damage as possible to the men of the Brigade. But Barry made every shot he could get in on Rose count, and he and Rotunda were able to put down the Polish Prince with a double bulldog headlock while Rose was helpless to do anything but watch.

Dan Severn vs. Mr. Hito

 

Severn had a martial arts duel with Mr. Hito that held the fans spellbound until he was finally able to take the Japanese veteran down with a crushing throw before forcing him to submit to the Body Scissors Sleeper

 

Shane Douglas vs. The Masked Avenger

 

No matter what he did, young Douglas was unable to put a dent in the huge Avenger and went down to an over the knee backbreaker. What can Bam Bam Bigelow do to have a chance against the masked man?

 

Brian Adams & Vic Steamboat vs. Chris Adams & TNT

 

Brian Adams and his new friend Steamboat made for a surprisingly effective team, and while Chris Adams and TNT certainly gave them a hell of a fight, Brian Adams was able to pull off a shocking upset when he was able to hit a spinning backbreaker on Chris Adams for the win

 

Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Hart Foundation © vs. Badd Company

 

Missy Hyatt has been absent from her men's corner for the last several matches, and that has led to a slump on the part of Badd Company. This bad streak continued as the Harts took them out with the Hart Attack

 

Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : Chris Candido © vs. Black Tiger

 

Ever since winning the belt, Candido has kept a vice like grip on the title, but seemed legitimately scared of Black Tiger. He did everything he could to delay locking up with the Tiger, and even when he did, he took every opportunity to bail out of the ring to get away from him. When he was able to get his hands on him, Black Tiger was able to wrap the champ up in a series of increasingly painful stretches and submissions holds, and while Candido kept barely being able to escape with is considerable athleticism and skill, the champ was distinctly backpedaling throughout the match. It was his stalling tactics that led to the match going to a 20 minute time limit draw, but one thinks he will not be able to out run the Black Tiger for much longer.

 

Owen Hart & Brian Pillman vs. Tracy Smothers & Jack Victory

 

With Smothers on his way to defending his California Title against Owen at San Diego Battleground,  it was vital that he stay on the same page as his partner "Hollywood" Jack Victory in this match with the Snowbirds. Unfortunately for him, that was not the case, as he and Victory just could not get lined up, leading to a series of miscommunications cumulating in Owen ducking under a clothesline from Victory that wound up levelling Smothers. Pillman then hit a slingshot splash on Smothers while Owen tied up Victory, resulting in an embarrassing defeat for the Hollywood Knights. Smothers and Victory argued and shoved each other after the match until Chris Candido and Al Snow interceded and got things calmed down. Once again, Candido and Snow could be seen furtively discussing something behind the backs of Smothers and Victory as they all left the ring together.

I have to avoid gushing about the tag team scene here! It's was great to see wins for Ron Simmons and Dan Severn! There was a cool story to the match between Chris Candido and the Black Tiger - hopefully Chris Candido can't be forced into a confrontation with no easy way out!

Ron Simmons vs. Jimmy Del Ray

 

 

Ron Simmons is headed for the biggest match of his young career as he is on his way to a showdown with Stan Hansen at San Diego Battleground. Normally in these cases, one would figure Del Ray would be looking to do some damage to Simmons to soften him up for his Crazy Gang ally. But Del Ray never stood a chance in this match. Simmons bowled Del Ray over with a big running tackle the moment the opening bell rang, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Simmons tossed Del Ray around like a rag doll before finally putting him out of his misery with a running spear. A dominant victory, but Stan Hansen will be a much sterner challenge to overcome.

 

Stan Hansen vs. Matt Dyson

 

 

 

Speaking of Stan Hansen, he gave an incredibly convincing display of power as he straight up annihilated the rookie Dyson. After a few minutes of destroying the young man, he levelled him with his infamous lariat. But even that wasn't enough for Hansen, who locked Dyson in the Brazos Valley Backbreaker and held him in it even after Dyson screamed out his surrender. The match at San Diego Battleground is sure to be an epic battle of two titans.

 

Keiichi Yamada vs. Hector Guerrero

 

 

 

While the first two matches were heavily one sided, this was far more competitive. The cocky Guerrero brother and the former Light Heavyweight champ went long in a very intense battle that kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Just when it looked like one man would be on the verge of the win, the other would just barely escape. Yamada finally looked like he would put Guerrero away with a brainbuster, but Hector escaped it by flipping over him, catching him in a schoolboy rollup and keeping his shoulders down for the one two three. A great match from two of the most exciting contenders in Pacific Coast Wrestling.

 

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Joel Deaton

 

 

 

Count the Beast From The East as another staring down the barrel of the biggest match of his life, in his case a Loser Leaves Town match against the terrifying Masked Avenger. Facing the tough Texan Deaton would prove quite the test of his mettle before that match, as the Outlaw laid into him with big shots and clotheslines. The New Jersey fireball withstood this attack and came back with his own high impact offense, finally getting the pinfall with a slingshot splash. Would he be able to manage the same against the Masked Avenger?

 

Black Gold ( Steve Blackman & Shane Douglas) vs. Ed Wiskowski & Fit Finlay

 

 

A few weeks ago, Shane Douglas gave Buddy Rose a real run for his money in a Pacific Heavyweight Title match. This week, Douglas would join his Black Gold partner Steve Blackman in a match against two of the Playboy's Playboy Club cohorts , Ed Wiskowski and Fit Finlay. It looked like Wiskowski and Finlay were out to punish Black Gold for nearly showing up their boss, as they added an extra dose of viciousness in every blow they landed. But Douglas and Blackman were up for the challenge, weathering every shot they took and coming back with their own speed and double team moves. That said , the intimidating Polish Prince and the double tough Belfast Bruiser were not a duo to be taken lightly, and Black Gold had to be constantly moving to stay on an even footing with them. Their patience paid off when Blackman ducked under a clothesline from Finlay and came roaring back with a running bicycle kick. Easy Ed tried to break up the pin, but was intercepted by a flying cross body press, and Blackman scored the one two three. The fans exploded in approval at this impressive victory, and while Finlay was livid at this result, Wiskowski whispered something in his ear, and the two were actually smirking as they left the ring. What sinister skullduggery do this malevolent pair have in mind?
