Not the pinnacle of professional wrestling, but this was really great. If they don't fuck it up, it will be the perfect ending of a great 10 year run where Vince turned the promotion into what he always wanted it to be. It would be totally awkward if Mr McMahon, the character, died at the same time Vince McMahon does. But if they fuck it up, it will be just another moment in wrestlecrap history.

From WWE.com:

STAMFORD, Conn. – Federal authorities investigating the presumed death of Mr. McMahon visited the Chairman’s office at WWE corporate headquarters earlier this morning, and were seen loading what appeared to be hundreds of boxes into vans, WWE.com has learned.

Sources close to the investigation say officials arrived at Titan Tower at 6 a.m. The federal officers, sources said, were gathering evidence in search of any clues in the apparent fiery demise of Mr. McMahon, who may have perished Monday night at the end of Raw when the limousine he had just entered exploded. So far, authorities have not recovered Mr. McMahon’s body or any of his remains.

Insisting that they could not comment on an ongoing investigation, FBI officials would not reveal what the agents were looking for or what they removed from the Chairman’s office. But according to one anonymous source, investigators rummaged through hundreds of McMahon’s files and dusted his office for fingerprints. They also, the source said, were seen taking the WWE visionary’s computers off the premises.

The agents were said to have spent three hours combing through files and removing materials. When they were finished, the Chairman’s office – which normally was filled with cabinets and state-of-art computers – had been stripped clean. Its carpeting had been removed, and normally organized bookshelves were left in disarray.

Federal authorities, sources said, are also looking at the Chairman’s e-mail and all of his writings for any clues. They are especially looking at anything he may have written in the last two weeks, when his behavior became increasingly erratic.

Will anything taken from Mr. McMahon’s office – any e-mail on his computers – provide any clues? Stay with WWE.com for further updates on the investigation as details become available.

Log on later this week as our reporters hope to talk to the lead detective in the federal investigation. In addition, tune in to SmackDown on Friday at 8/7 CT to find out the latest developments in the probe and watch the tribute to Mr. McMahon.

Meltzer:

--In the incredibly classless aspect of our show, the WWE is doing a special McMahon DVD and signed autographed plaque by Vincent as well as a Vincent T-shirt and claiming you can get one of the last items Vince autographed before his untimely presumed death.

Dave's blood is boiling, you can tell he's about to unleash

It keeps getting better:

PWI:

- Many WWE fans continue to believe that Vince McMahon was actually killed in the limo explosion on RAW. Some fans showed up to WWE Headquarters last night and held a candle light vigil. Once again, the entire thing is a work and McMahon is fine.

This is one of those things that can only happen in wrestling: they really can't acknowledge the real death of a recent inductee into their Hall of Fame because the next few weeks at least are all going to be built around a worked death.

I don't mind the angle but that is quite tasteless. Maybe Vince was working on the History of World Class dvd and is channeling Fritz Von Erich for promotional ideas.

Man, now I have this whole scenario in my head where Vince was watching World Class tapes with his Mr. McMahon Joker grin on his face going "This Fritz guy was BRILLIANT~!"

Meltz:

--There was serious talk within WWE yesterday regarding the McMahon angle due to the timing of the death of Sherri Martel. There was a significant push to drop the angle as quickly as possible, citing taste and timing, and another school of thought (that most expect would win out) to keep going.

Dropping the angle would be ridiculous, and I hope it doesn't happen. I don't know who these people are who think WWE is required to address these situations with class, because there is no historical precedent for it at all. WWE is run by horrible, hell-bound people. We should celebrate their immorality instead of expecting them to pretend they've changed when they haven't for show.

Also, the tribute shows are not sacred and don't mean anything. It's workers working. It's a chance for wrestlers to get themselves over as genuinely good people with the fanbase by playing top this with each other to see who can do the most touching tribute and get the most adoration from it. If there's reality to it, it's incidental and rare. Acting like they've committed some sort of sacrilege by mocking it isn't cause for scorn. If anything, WWE should be commended for being more honest about their lack of class, rather than disguising it as they've been wont to do before.

Do you really think an Owen Hart tribute show that features the Undertaker staying off camera to protect his gimmick, Road Dogg making drug references in honor of a guy who never did drugs, and Steve Austin, who didn't even like the guy, closing out the show by toasting a beer to him simply because he's the company's top babyface, is something special that should somehow be protected? Is Stephanie McMahon comparing the Federal government to Al Qaeda really a standard that is too important to be mocked? Is a show really the best effort possible to honor Eddy Guerrero when they can't even deliver a clean finish in the main event because they want to protect guys they're building around?

WWE makes some utterly classless decisions. People should really stop expecting more from them, and getting angry and complaining about it is only going to cause the company to get even more tasteless. And better yet, the people who do the majority of the complaining are the people who are still watching.

Wrestling is shady. People who can't handle that should watch something else instead of expecting it to change. It's not going to change.

I hope Stephanie does a Melanie Pillman-style interview on Raw. Expecting otherwise is like watching Jerry Springer and chastising the lack of thought-provoking debate, or popping in a porno and complaining about the acting.

They're bad people. They're never going to be good people. This has nothing to do with how any individuals who watch wrestling live their lives, and it has nothing to do with Sherri Martel's death, or anyone else's death. It's a worked storyline. I don't disagree with people who say it's tasteless. I do think that fans that are getting worked up over this are really taking the whole thing far too seriously.

To be fair, it would be pretty crass even by WWE standards to have a guy who's gimmick is based on death appearing on a tribute show. That much I never found fault with. I pretty much stopped taking tribute shows seriously when HBK wanted to get his win back from Rey after the Eddie show.

Actually I'd be a bit surprised if Stephanie did such an interview. I know they are bad people with no class, but they are hypocrites too. If Stephanie was too creeped out to do an incest angle with her father, I can definitely see her refusing to cut a tearful promo over her father's fake death. Feel free to laugh at me if I'm proved wrong on Monday though. :)

Also I don't really blame the Dave Meltzer's of the world going off on a bit of a rant over the angle. Sure they shouldn't be surprised at the lengths the McMahons will stoop for ratings, but it's their job to point out their lack of taste and rightfully criticise them for it.

I'm not sure I've heard about that.

I'm sure it was alluded to in the Torch, probably by Bruce Mitchell, when Shawn pinned Rey in the Raw vs Smackdown Survivor Series match a few weeks after Eddie died.

I wonder who is against the angle? My guess would be Patt Patterson and Jim Ross are the leading opposing forces. Patterson begged Vince not do to the Slaughter/Iraq War exploitation in 91 (must not have been that convincing)

Also, from this week's Observer via Rajah:

WWE tried to get Trish Stratus to appear on last week's McMahon Appreciation show, but the word is that she turned them down, citing that she wants to move on in her life. Although, others internally were speculating that she was smart enough to know if she was going to return, this would be trivializing what could be a big deal. Had Trish appeared on the show, it would have been in Ashley's spot on the show where she showed the clip of Vince forcing Trish to bark like a dog and strip to her underwear.

The best part of the WON story was the mention that the idea came up to invite Bruno to the show, part of the reasoning being "Wilkes-Barre isn't that far from Pittsburgh".

For those without a map nearby, they're on opposite sides of the state.

Apparently the voice of reason won out since Dave didn't think Bruno was even asked.

Dusty made sure to actually say on the air that he didn't agree with Vince's view of "sports entertainment", complete with verbal quote marks that let you really feel his old-school contempt for the term. I'd say he was probably against it. (Although he did start these shoot angles in the first place with all the Horsemen backstage beatdowns, still, a fatal car bombing is a wee bit different.)

Ah, good ol' Klique. You can always count on them to cause havoc and disrupt long-made plans just for their own personal bitchiness. Hey, has Nash done that job for Chris Sabin yet? It's weird how out of all of them, HHH seems to have grown up the most, what with putting over Benoit, Batista, and Cena over and over again.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It would be nice if it DID change, but don't hold your breath.

If Stephanie doesn't compare this to when JFK died and the FBI payed Papa Shango to blow up the limo, I will be upset.

I can guess the 3 people behind the death angle were Gerwitz, Kevin Dunn and probably Vince. They are the only ones that matter in the company besides Steph and HHH.

I'm sure Dusty would have liked the angle if Vince said "make it good" before getting in the limo.

I still wonder how Gerwitz ended up with so much pull. At least Kevin Dunn has been with the company forever, Gerwitz not to long ago was the guy everyone was making fun of behind his back for being a comic book mark and now he's in the Inner Circle.

Also, Loss I c/p'd your post over on the DVDR Smackdown thread where people were bitching that they were making light of the sacred Tribute Shows with the Vince stuff. Your take was pretty much perfection so I shared it with the class.

I don't get the sense that Gewirtz has that much pull, as he seems to be someone who is happy to follow orders and doesn't rock the boat much. He facilitates Vince and Stephanie's vision rather than challenges it. I'd say Michael Hayes and perhaps even JBL are more influential because they too are part of the inner circle but are more willing to speak their mind and more likely to tell Vince things he doesn't wants to hear.
