Like the Islanders and Cornette better be on his game or the Express could be in trouble. Windham has some guts for being so young as he helped Powers and Savoldi get a nice win. I could just see the crying that Tatum would have been doing. Hollywood is a GREAT midcarder who could do a bit of everything from being pretty good in the ring to being awesome. with his antics and microphone skills To me, Eaton is an all-time great but what made the MNE one of the best ever was Cornette and you have him down perfectly! Nice segment from the department store... I wonder who could the man with the sideburns be? lol The Movement is doing great but they better hope the Road Warriors didn't see how the match ended! Also, not so sure if Tiger would get out of the arena calling the fans White Devils... especially down in Texas in 1984.... the Men in the White Sheets would be waiting! AWESOME MAIN EVENT. I'm Jim Ross, joined as always by "Cowboy" Bill Watts! Tonight we bring you the Great Texas Round Up! Bill Watts: We've been talking about it for weeks Jim, and it's finally upon us. Twenty men are going to compete to become the first AWA Southwestern Champion. Jim Ross: We know that this match will go no less than thirty eight minutes, and we expect it to go longer, so we are going to get right to it. But Bill, please quickly go over the format for those who don't know. Bill Watts: Two men will begin the match, every two minutes there after another man will join the match until all twenty have entered. Like a battle royal, men can be eliminated at any time by being thrown over the top rope and to the floor. The last man standing will be declared the Southwestern Champion. Jim Ross: There you have it folks! Now, let's see who has drawn numbers one and two. The Great Texas Round Up -AWA Southwestern Title- Entrant #1: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin Entrant #2: Jay Youngblood Bill Watts: When it comes to luck of the draw, these two men got the raw end of the deal. They will have to last nearly forty minutes to have a shot at winning. Jim Ross: Jimmy Garvin has been so close to the Central States Title on more than one occasion, you know he'd love to win this. Entrant #3: "Gorgeous" Gary Young Jim Ross: This is bad news for Jay Youngblood! Bill Watts: While technically it is every man for himself, you know that tag teams and friends will work together....for a while. Entrant #4: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Jim Ross: Garvin and Young have been beating on Jay Youngblood and trying to throw him out of that ring for two minutes, but help is on the way! Entrant #5: Bobby Duncum Jim Ross: One half of The Highwaymen, big Bobby Duncum heads to the ring. Bill Watts: It will be interesting to see who he goes after. Entrant #6: Brian Adias Jim Ross: Brian Adias is another man who is itching to hold some gold. He was contending for the Televison Title before he got involved with The Movement. Elimination #1: Jimmy Garvin and Gary Young were working over Ricky Steamboat in the corner. When Brian Adias climbed into the ring, Gary Young left Steamboat to Garvin and looked to get the jump on him. Young charged across the ring and was hoping to catch Adias with a huge clothesline, but Brian ducked down at the last second, and back dropped "Gorgeous" Gary over the top rope and to the floor! "Gorgeous" Gary Young is Eliminated Jim Ross: We have our first elimination! Bill Watts: Young tried to get one over on Adias, but ended up out of the ring and the match. Jim Ross: Folks, we'll be right back! -Commercial Break- Entrant #7: Mark Youngblood Jim Ross: Welcome back Ladies and Gentleman, Mark Youngblood entered the match while we were away, and no one was eliminated. Bill Watts: We should actually be expecting our next competitor in about thirty seconds.... Entrant #8: Baron Von Raschke Jim Ross: The fans here in Dallas sure don't like this guy Bill. Bill Watts: You declare yourself the master of the Iron Claw around these parts, your lucky you don't get killed! Entrant #9: Phil Hickerson Bill Watts: The other half of The Highwaymen, Phil Hickerson. He'll be tough to get up and over that top rope. Jim Ross: So we have both Highwaymen, both Youngbloods, Garvin, Steamboat, Adias, and Von Raschke battling it out in the ring! -Commercial Break- Entrant #10: Kendall Windham Jim Ross: Young Kendall Windham hit the ring during the break and he is punching away at Jimmy Garvin!! Bill Watts: There might just be a little bad blood there Jim! Jim Ross: Here comes Number Eleven.... Entrant #11: Bruiser Brody Jim Ross: I think business is about to pick up! Bill Watts: Brody just charge down the aisle and hit that ring like a freight train! Elimination #2: Kendall Windham had been blasting away at Jimmy Garvin with lefts and rights and had Garvin slumped against the bottom turnbuckle seeing stars. Windham stood up and was caught with a huge furry boot to the side of the face that sent him sailing over the top rope and to the floor. Kendall Windham is Eliminated Bill Watts: Look's like Kendall won't be getting a belt to match his brothers! Elimination #3: Brody's momentum didn't slow after kicking Windham out of the ring as he saw his next target and after stopping to loose a "Huss" at the crowd, he waited for Baron Von Raschke to turn around, and then Brody charged at him and caught him with a huge clothesline that sent the Baron directly over the top rope and to the floor. Baron Von Raschke is Eliminated Jim Ross: The Baron never even saw him coming! Elimination #4 & #5: Bobby Duncum had Mark Youngblood on his shoulder and was trying to shove him out of the ring. Mark was holding onto the ropes with both hands doing his best to fight the elimination. Neither of them saw Bruiser Brody come from behind and scoop Duncum up, depositing both of them over the top rope and to the floor. Mark Youngblood is Eliminated Bobby Duncum is Eliminated Jim Ross: Good Lord, Brody is like a hurricane in the ring! Bill Watts: He's eliminated four men in less than a minute! Entrant #12: Iceman King Parson Jim Ross: Parsons is headed to the ring, and you best believe he'll be going after Adias. Bill Watts: I'd be willing to bet....wait a minute...why is Big John Studd behind him? He's not entered in this thing? Elimination #6: Parson slid into the ring and went straight after Brian Adias. But just behind him came Big John Studd with a steel chair. He stepped into the ring and headed straight toward Brody who was tied up with Phil Hickerson. WHAM! Studd cracked Brody across the back with the chair. WHAM! A second shot, this time in the head. WHAM! A third shot sent Brody sagging in the ropes, blood already streaming down his face. Studd looked at Hickerson, then pointed at Brody and yelled "THROW HIM OUT!" Hickerson came over and bundled the stunned Brody out of the ring. Bruiser Brody is Eliminated Jim Ross: John Studd just assaulted Bruiser Brody with a chair! Is this legal Bill? Bill Watts: Technically there are no rules in a match like this. Studd wasn't entered, so he couldn't eliminate Brody, but since Hickerson was the one who threw him out, even though Studd did the damage, unfortunately it counts. Brody is out. Jim Ross: Pardon me Bill, but that stinks. Bill Watts: I don't disagree Jim. Jim Ross: Security is escorting Studd out of the building, officials and paramedics are checking on Brody. Let's go ahead and take a break. -Commercial Break- Entrant #13: "Hollywood" John Tatum Jim Ross: Jimmy Garvin has been in this match for nearly twenty five minutes, I am sure he is glad to see John Tatum. Bill Watts: Look Jim....Adias and Iceman..... Elimination #7 & #8: Iceman King Parsons and Brian Adias had been fighting since pretty much the moment that Parsons had hit the ring. There had been no wrestling involved, just punches, chops, kicks, just straight up two men who don't like one another going at it. Now they were locked in a death grip trying to throw one another. Both of them were hung up on the rope, arms intertwined like they were trying to hiptoss each other out, just struggling for dominance. Jimmy Garvin saw it as an opportunity, grabbed a leg of each man and used the leverage of the ropes to dump both of them to the floor. Iceman King Parsons is Eliminated Brian Adias is Eliminated Bill Watts: Adias and Parsons are both gone! They've hit the floor and are still fighting!! Jim Ross: We've got five men in the ring, with seven men left to come. Entrant #14: The Grappler Jim Ross: Here comes The Grappler. Bill Watts: This environment is perfect for him, he has no friends. Elimination #9: Ricky Steamboat has hold of one leg of big Phil Hickerson and is trying to hoist him out of the ring. The Grappler comes over and grabs the other leg and the two of them hoist Hickerson up and over the top rope to the floor. Phil Hickerson is Eliminated Bill Watts: Just like that Grappler helps Ricky Steamboat take out Phil Hickerson. Jim Ross: and now Grappler is attacking Steamboat!! Elimination #10: Jay Youngbloods and Jimmy Garvin started the match and have been in the ring for nearly a half hour. Both of them are tired, but right now Youngblood is in trouble as Garvin and Tatum are just beating on him in the corner. He is trying to fight back with chops, but the two of them are just too much to overcome thirty minutes into this thing. Together they scoop him up and dump him to the floor. Jay Youngblood is Eliminated Jim Ross: Jay Youngblood who entered this thing second is taken out by Garvin and Tatum. Bill Watts: Heck of a showing by Youngblood, and we are down to four men in the ring, but a fifth is about to come out. Entrant #15: Jim Powers Bill Watts: One half of the hot new tag team with Joe Savoldi, here comes Jimmy Powers! Jim Ross: Folks, we gotta take another quick break! -Commercial Break- Entrant #16: Sam Houston Jim Ross: Sam Houston hits the ring and he is all over John Tatum!! Elimination #11: The two men who have been in the ring the longest, Ricky Steamboat and Jimmy Garvin are tied up, and Steamboat has Garvin about 60% of the way out of the ring. Garvin is kicking and clawing and doing whatever he can to not get eliminated, but Steamboat is using every bit of energy he has left to get Garvin out of the ring. When the Lariat from The Grappler crashes into the back of Steamboat's head, it sends him quickly over the top rope and hard to the floor. Garvin somehow manages to lands on the apron, where he immediately wraps all of his limbs around the bottom rope. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is Eliminated Jim Ross: After one heck of an effort, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is taken out by The Grappler. Bill Watts: I can't believe Jimmy Garvin managed to hang on. Elimination #12: The Grappler wasn't finished yet. Jim Powers was watching Sam Houston blast away at John Tatum, waiting for a chance to get involved. He never noticed the masked man coming up behind him. Grappler simply grabbed a handful of hair, and a handful of tights and hurled Powers out of the ring. Jim Powers is Eliminated Jim Ross: Jim Powers is gone. Bill Watts: Inexperience just cost him that one. He was so focused on where he was going, he didn't see what was coming Jim. Jim Ross: Speaking of coming, our next entrant is on his way! Entrant #17: Kerry Von Erich Jim Ross: My God, it's deafening here in the Sportatorium! Kerry Von Erich is entering the Great Texas Round Up!! Bill Watts: You have to think he is going straight after The Grappler!! Elimination #13: Kerry tried to go straight after The Grappler, but he was jumped by John Tatum and Jimmy Garvin nearly the moment he hit the ring. It didn't take long for the fired up Von Erich to start slinging punches at both men. They were both reeling after several huge punches, and then Kerry dropped Tatum with a huge Discus Punch! He then turned around and clotheslined a teetering Jimmy Garvin over the top rope to the floor!! "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin is Eliminated Jim Ross: Kerry Von Erich has eliminated Jimmy Garvin who was in the match for close to thirty five minutes! Bill Watts: Quite a performance for Garvin tonight, but he should have stayed out of Kerry's way!! Elimination #14: "Hollywood" John Tatum got up from the big Discus Punch holding his jaw and woozy. He turned around and BOOM, Kerry was waiting and another big Discus Punch sent him sailing backwards over the ropes and he crashed to the floor!! "Hollywood" John Tatum is Eliminated Jim Ross: Kerry gets rid of Tatum too! Now no one stands between him and The Grappler!! Bill Watts: FISTS ARE FLYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING!! Entrant #18: Stan Stasiak Bill Watts: Stan Stasiak gets a great draw, and he is a very dangerous man to be entering this late. Jim Ross: Folks, we have to take our last break, don't go away!!! -Commercial Break- Elimination #15: Sam Houston was doing his best to help Kerry fight The Grappler and Stasiak, but Stasiak apparently had enough of the interference and nailed Houston with a huge knee to the midsection, gave him a headbutt between the eyes, then hurled him over the top rope and out of the match. Sam Houston is Eliminated Jim Ross: Sam Houston is out, and Kerry Von Erich is alone against Grappler and Stasiak. Bill Watts: Only for about twenty more seconds, or until they decide to turn on one another. Whichever comes first. Entrant #19: Joe Savoldi Jim Ross: Joe Savoldi pulls number nineteen, and he is sprinting down to the ring! Bill Watts: It looks like Stasiak is waiting to meet him though! Elimination #16: As soon as Savoldi slides into the ring, he is met with a series of stomps from Stan Stasiak. Stasiak then reaches down and yanks the kid to his feet by the hair. Stasiak deftly pulls his arm behind his head and plows him with the Heart Punch! Savoldi goes limp, and Stasiak deposits him over the top rope like a bag of garbage. Joe Savoldi is Eliminated Bill Watts: Heart Punch and Savoldi is done in moments... Jim Ross: THE GRAPPLER!! Elimination #17: Across the ring The Grappler was continuing to work on Kerry Von Erich. Along with Stasiak, he had pretty well stomped Kerry into the mat much to the chagrin of the fans in the Sportatorium. While Stasiak had left to deal with Savoldi, Grappler was still hammering forearms and stomps into Von Erich, inflicting some extra damage ahead of the Superdome match they have coming up on Sunday. Simultaneously with Savoldi being eliminated, Kerry summoned most of the remaining strength in his body, grabbed hold of the legs of The Grappler and came off the canvas like a rocket. He lifted The Grappler into the air, up over his head and dumped him in a back body drop over the top rope to the floor!! The Grappler is Eliminated Jim Ross: KERRY HAS ELIMINATED THE GRAPPLER!!! Bill Watts: Stasiak is coming after Kerry now! Elimination #18: Stasiak charges across the ring after Von Erich and the two of them begin exchanging punches. Kerry quickly gains the upper hand and has Stasiak reeling. Kerry whips Stasiak into the ropes and fires off a dropkick that sends Stasiak sailing out of the ring and to the floor! Stan Stasiak is Eliminated Bill Watts: Stasiak is out of there, Kerry stands alone, and we have one person left to enter. Jim Ross: The Grappler! The Grappler is loading his boot on the floor.... The Grappler slides back into the ring, and Kerry turns around just in time to be met with a huge Lariat. The Grappler then follows it up with a huge kick to the side of the head of Kerry Von Erich with the boot that everyone just saw him load up on the floor. Von Erich goes down in a heap, out cold on the canvas, and The Grappler exits the ring and heads for the back. Jim Ross: This is ridiculous Bill! The Grappler had already been eliminated! Now Kerry is out cold. Entrant #20: Mystery Entrant Jim Ross: What the heck... As Kerry Von Erich lays motionless in the ring, an instrumental version of Elvis Pressley's Jailhouse Rock begins to play in the Sportatorium. First we see Sunshine come walking, well... dancing toward the ring. She is wearing a black shirt, white shoes, and a poodle skirt! Behind her is the man we've seen in the vignettes the past several weeks. He has jet black hair done up in a pompadour and is sporting large black sideburns. He is wearing light blue wrestling tights, that actually flare just below the knee to make them look like bell bottoms, with the word's "Greatest of All Time" emblazoned across the rear in white lettering. He is also wearing a darker blue leather jacket that has tassels hanging from the arms and lots of gold highlighted designs covering the arms and back. Strapped across his back and gripped in his right hand is an acoustic guitar! White boots and large gold sunglasses round out the outfit. The two of them make it down to ringside, where they make a lap of the ring, stopping on each side so that he can do a little hip swiveling dance for the crowd as Sunshine claps and smiles. Sunshine then takes the guitar from him, and helps him remove his jacket and sunglasses. The man then extends his cheek to her, and she plants a big kiss on it. With a big smile on his face, he heads for the ring. Elimination #19: Kerry Von Erich during all of this has managed to crawl to the ropes, and was using them to pull himself up. He had his left hand on the top rope and his right hand on the middle rope and was pushing himself to his feet, when the mystery man grabbed him by the trunks and the hair, and flung him over the top rope to the floor! Kerry Von Erich is Eliminated Jim Ross: This can't be... You've gotta be kidding me! This guy is just gonna waltz in here.... The Greatest Guitar Player! and The Greatest Wrestler! Honky Tonk Man: That's Right! The Greatest Wrassler! and I just proved it! You saw it Mitch! I came in here and I beat nineteen other men, and I became the Southwestern Champion, and I did it without even breaking a sweat! I'm just that good! The rain of trash increases as the Sportatorium crowd is getting angrier the more this guy talks. Honky Tonk Man: Now, I don't know what kind of joint your running here, but it seems to me that these degenerate Texans don't appreciate the greatness of the Honky Tonk Man! So Sunshine baby, let's me and you go hop in my Pink Cadillac, and head on back to the greatest city on God's Green Earth.... Memphis, Tennessee! That did it! The boo's increased to deafening levels, and now fulls cups were hitting the ring. Security had to stop more than one person from advancing on the ring, and several officers came to ringside to escort the new champion and his valet to the back. It was very World Class with a VonErich on the verge of victory until the cheating started and then a shocker to end it all. Great use of HTM! I loved the finish and can't wait to follow along with the adventures of Honky Tonk Man here in World Class....and I love the pairing with Sunshine! Steamboat and Garvin have great showings. The Studd/Brody segment adds fire to their already hot feud. I know the fans went nuts when Kerry eliminated Grappler. Stasiak had a strong showing and is looking good in his twilight. Grappler puts Kerry down with the loaded boot and then it happens. This might of been my favorite debut by a wrestler in this game. LOL the Honkytonk Man comes in and wins the round up and title! I loved it! You did a great job hyping him up with the vignettes and now he's way over. Sunshine and HTM draw insane heat. Two announce desks have been set up, Marc Lowrance has been given ring announcing duties for the night, and The Battle for New Orleans is about to begin!! 1) -20 Man $20,000 Winner Take All Over the Top Rope Battle Royal- (Michael Hayes, Buddy Roberts, One Man Gang, Lars Anderson, Great Kabuki, Kendo Nagasaki, Wendell Cooley, Scott Casey, "Nightmare" Danny Davis, "Nightmare" Ken Wayne, Brian Adias, Bruiser Brody, Ricky Steamboat, Jay Youngblood, Mark Youngblood, "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin, Iceman King Parsons, Stan Stasiak, Bobby Duncum, Phil Hickerson) Elimination #1: There was one obvious choice when this began. At nearly seven feet tall and close to 500 pounds, the One Man Gang loomed larger than nearly everyone in the ring. Bruiser Brody was the first to charge at him and catch him with a big boot to the face that sent him back against the ropes. From there nearly half the men in the ring swarmed him, lifted him, and dumped him out of the ring. One Man Gang is Eliminated Elimination #2: Ken Wayne and Danny Davis, The Nightmares were playing it smart and sticking together. They had been sticking to a corner of the ring and pretty much beating up anyone who got to close. Mark Youngblood had been locked up with Jimmy Garvin and they backed into that corner. Davis and Wayne each grabbed hold of Youngblood, and began to assault him. Garvin was quick to disappear from that corner, as The Nightmares made quick work of Youngblood and tossed him to the floor. Mark Youngblood is Eliminated Elimination #3: Scott Casey had been getting double teamed by Kabuki and Kendo Nagasaki, but the timely intervention of the strange duo of Lars Anderson and Brian Adias had broken that up. Casey was a bit staggered as he moved away from that grouping, and he unfortunately came into contact with Iceman King Parsons who simply knee'd him hard in the groin, then scooped him up and out of the ring. Scott Casey is Eliminated Elimination #4: Two men in the twilight of their careers, back for one last shot at glory had found one another and were battling it out for supremacy. Lars Anderson and Stan Stasiak were throwing haymakers at one another just waiting to see who would fall down first. Luckily for Lars Anderson, he lost the battle and dropped to the canvas just as Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts of The Fabulous Freebirds charged across the ring with a double clothesline. Thus it missed him, and sent Stasiak over the top rope and to the floor! Stan Stasiak is Eliminated Elimination #5 & #6: Brian Adias and Iceman King Parson found one another and that was it for then focusing on anyone else. First the punches flew, then they got locked in a death grip of trying to force one another over the top rope. That was all Duncum and Hickerson, The Highwaymen needed to walk up behind them and shove both men over the ropes and to the floor. Brian Adias is Eliminated Iceman King Parsons is Eliminated Elimination #7: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin had been pretty successfully avoiding people until he got cornered by The Nightmares. Now Davis and Wayne were doing quite the number on him, and things were looking bleak for him. Then a large furry boot caught Davis in the face and sent him sailing over the top rope! "Nightmare" Danny Davis is Eliminated Elimination #8: Bruiser Brody wasn't finished as he clubbed Ken Wayne hard across the back, then reached down and lifted him into a bodyslam. Brody walked him in a complete circle, then dumped him over the top rope onto his partner who just got to his feet! "Nightmare" Ken Wayne is Eliminated Elimination #9: Jimmy Garvin saw an opportunity and grabbed the leg of Bruiser Brody, he tried to hoist the big man up but wasn't having much luck. Fortunately for Garvin, Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts were paying attention and joined the festivities. The three of them got Brody most of the way out of the ring, then of all people, a final push from Wendell Cooley got the job done. Bruiser Brody is Eliminated Elimination #10: Hickerson and Duncum had been brawling with Nagasaki and Kabuki in the other corner while that was going on, but Kabuki had ended up getting tied up with Ricky Steamboat, leaving Nagasaki on his own. Try as he might, he couldn't overcome the combined power of The Highwaymen, and they ended up dumping him to the floor. Kendo Nagasaki is Eliminated Elimination #11: Garvin, Hayes, and Roberts proceeded to thank Wendell Cooley for his help by stomping the crap out of him. Lars Anderson came over and looked all set to join them, but instead blasted Buddy Roberts with a huge clothesline that sent him out of the ring! Buddy Roberts is Eliminated Elimination #12: Duncum and Hickerson had gone to work on Kabuki after getting rid of Nagasaki, but failed to notice Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood regrouping behind them. Steamboat and Youngblood nodded at one another and nailed Hickerson from behind with a huge Double Dropkick that sent him sailing over the top and out of the ring. Phil Hickerson is Eliminated Elimination #13: Bobby Duncum turned around to confront Steamboat and Youngblood,but Kabuki who was on his knees stiff armed him in the groin. Duncum staggered a few steps away allowing Kabuki to get up, and fire a huge thrust kick at Duncum that sent him out of the ring. Bobby Duncum is Eliminated Elimination #14: Garvin and Hayes went after Lars Anderson as soon as he eliminated Roberts and were peppering him with punches, but Anderson was holding his own agaisnt both men. Wendell Cooley got to his feet and grabbed Hayes from behind by the hair. He pulled Hayes away from the brawl and was attempting to maneuver him toward the ropes, but Hayes raked the eyes, grabbed a handful of hair, and chucked Cooley out of the ring. Wendell Cooley is Eliminated Elimination #15: A couple minutes passed without an elimination, all six men remaining had been pairing off. Jay Youngblood and Ricky Steamboat had just nailed Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin with double chops. Lars Anderson had apparently seen enough of the two working together, and grabbed Youngblood in a waistlock and muscled him over the ropes and to the floor. Jay Youngblood is Eliminated Elimination #16: Hayes and Garvin were leaning against the ropes, when The Great Kabuki turned toward them and charged at them. Hayes and Garvin side stepped and each grabbed a leg, bundling the face painted Japanese warrior out of the ring. The Great Kabuki is Eliminated Elimination #17: Ricky Steamboat blistered Lars Anderson with a chop. Lars Anderson blasted Ricky Steamboat with a right hand. Chop. Right Hand. Chop. Right Hand. Chop. Ricky Steamboat ducked the right hand and the momentum spun Lars Anderson around. Steamboat hooked Anderson and nailed him with an atomic drop. Anderson staggered forward toward the ropes and Steamboat nailed him with a dropkick to the back that sent him out of the ring. Lars Anderson is Eliminated Elimination #18 & #19: As Steamboat was getting to his feet, Garvin and Hayes grabbed him from behind and rushed him to the ropes trying to eliminate him. They managed to throw him over, but failed to notice that he held on! Steamboat was in the process of skinning the cat when Michael Hayes noticed that he wasn't eliminated. Hayes went back over to finish the job, but was shocked when Steamboat wrapped his legs around the head of Hayes. Steamboat had pulled Hayes most of the way out of the ring by the time Garvin noticed what was happening. Jimmy took in the scene for a moment, shrugged his shoulders, then charged in with a knee to the back of Steamboat. "The Dragon" lost his grip, causing both he and Hayes to tumble to the floor. Michael Hayes is Eliminated Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is Eliminated Winner: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin 2) Super Black Ninja w/Mr. Fuji vs Steve Olsonoski - U.S. Super Junior Championship Highlights: A very fast paced match with Steve O holding his own with the Ninja more so than he did in their first bout…..after about 12 minutes of action Olsonoski had things going his way, he went to the top rope for a dropkick but Ninja side stepped him and avoided contact….he then went to the top rope and hit his patented moonsault for the 1-2-3! Winner: Super Black Ninja 3) The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton/Dennis Condrey) w/Jim Cornette vs The Islanders (Samu/Tonga Kid) - AWA World Class Tag Team Titles Before the bell could be rung, Eaton and Condrey charged across the ring and attacked. Condrey caught Tonga Kid in the back with a knee that sent him sailing out of the ring between the top and middle ropes. While Eaton nailed Samu with an elbow to the back of the head. Condrey turned around and joined Bobby and the two of them stomped Samu repeatedly. The Midnight Express pulled Samu across the ring to their corner as Referee Jerry Usher angrily admonished them. Eaton hopped onto the apron, while Condrey continued the assault. The Midnights made frequent tags, confined Samu to their corner, and relentlessly worked over his lower back as Cornette paraded around ringside like he'd just won a gold medal! Every time Samu stated to mount any sort of comeback, Bobby and Dennis would cut it off with a double team move, and every time Tonga Kid's temper got the best of him, The Midnight Express used the referee pushing him out of the ring as an opportunity to do more cheating! Finally, when Samu was shot into the ropes and The Express bent down for what appeared to be a double backdrop, Samu put on the brakes, grabbed the heads of Eaton and Condrey and gave them a double noggin knocker!! As they both stumbled around momentarily stunned, Samu leapt toward his corner and tagged in Tonga Kid! Tonga came in and delivered a huge chop to Eaton! Huge chop to Condrey! Headbutt to Eaton! Headbutt to Condrey! Thrust Kick to Eaton! Thrust Kick to Condrey! Both members of The Midnight Express rolled out of the ring and were trying to regroup on the floor, but the next thing they knew, Tonga Kid was on the floor with them, and he gave them a double noggin knocker!! Tonga tossed Beautiful Bobby back into the ring, and as he was going to follow him back in, WHAM!! Jim Cornette cracked Tonga Kid in the back with the tennis racket! As the bell was ringing, Tonga Kid turned around and stared down Cornette who's eyes grew wide as dinner plates, and when Tonga Kid stuck out his tongue, Cornette turned white as a ghost. Tonga Kid let loose with a thrust to the throat that sent Cornette flying backwards into Dennis Condrey and both of them crashed to the concrete. Tonga rolled back into the ring where Samu was throwing Bobby Eaton out of the ring, and The Islanders stood tall. Winners, by Disqualification: The Islanders 4) The Rat Patrol (Scott Armstrong/Steve Armstrong/Johnny Rich) vs The Soul Patrol (Brickhouse Brown/Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) - Losing Team Can No Longer Use "Patrol" Highlights: The Soul Patrol are in full on heel mode here taking every shortcut in the book in this six man tag. However, after several minutes of action the Rat Patrol have things going their way and look to be on their way to victory…..Brickhouse Brown comes around and pulls Johnny Rich off the apron and starts brawling around ringside as Austin pulls Scott Armstrong off the apron to do the same….which leaves Steve Armstrong up on the top rope about to come off with a sunset flip on Koko Ware….as Armstrong nails the sunset flip….the referee is outside trying to regain control of the other four fighting at ringside…..as Armstrong has Ware pinned…..from out of nowhere ICEMAN KING PARSONS slides into the ring and kicks Steve in the back of the head…..and quickly slides out of the ring as Ware puts an arm across Steve Armstrong…..Brown tells the ref to "get yo ass in there and count" as he slides under the bottom rope and makes the three count!! Winners: The Soul Patrol (Brickhouse Brown/Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) After the match, Brickhouse Brown takes the microphone…. Brown: "Listen up…..now that we've taken your stupid name away from you three…..I want to officially get rid of this stupid name that Les Thatcher gave us when we came to Continental….do you really think we want to call ourselves 'the SOUL Patrol'? Just more stereotypical wrestling promoter "B.S."…..so from this day forward, you will refer to us as 'the Bruthahood'!" (Ware grabs the mic) Ware: "And let me add to that…..we want to wish our bruthas, Shaska Whatley and Tiger Conway the best of luck tonight against those Road Warriors…..fight the power and bring home the gold!! The Movement continues!!" (Brown/Ware/Austin give the familiar fist salute of the Movement) 5) The Road Warriors (Animal/Hawk) vs The Movement (Shaska Whatley/Tiger Conway Jr) - AWA World Tag Team Titles To the shock of pretty much everyone, Tiger Conway Jr started the match by immediately slapping Hawk in the face. Hawk reached up and touched his cheek, then smirked at Conway and nodded his head, almost like he respected the guts. Then Conway slapped him again. This time Hawk laughed, and then grabbed Conway by the throat with both hands and hoisted him in the air. He held him aloft for a good fifteen seconds before throwing him hard to the canvas on his back. Conway quickly crawled over and tagged in Whatley. Shaska came in and circled Hawk, finally locking up with him after walking around him several times. Whatley held his own for a moment, but the strength of Hawk was too much and he shoved Whatley down hard. Shaska stood up and went chest to chest with Hawk finally giving him a hard shove. Hawk laughed again, and Shaska shouted out "I Want Him" while pointing at Animal. Hawk shrugged his shoulders and tagged in Animal. Animal came in and locked up with Shaska, who held his own for a moment and was shoved down hard! Whatley pounded on the mat in frustration, and then tagged in Tiger Conway Jr. Conway came into the ring, and when Animal went for the tie up, Conway shot around him and grabbed a waistlock from behind. He tried several times to take him down, but when that failed, he opted to take an arm. That didn't work either as Animal whipped him into the ropes and put him down hard with a shoulder tackle. Conway got back up and started trash talking. The look of amusement on the face of Animal said it all, and he held his hand out toward the rope. Conway charged into the ropes again, and again Animal put him down with a huge shoulder tackle. This time it was Conway who was pounding the mat in frustration, but instead of getting to go tag, he found himself being yanked to his feet by his afro. Animal had apparently had enough fun and games! Animal lifted Conway high over his head in a press slam. Conway started squirming and kicking, and managed to slip out the back and land on his feet. Animal turned around and went to blast Conway with a big punch, but Tiger ducked and Animal caught Referee Rick Hazzard directly in the face! Hazzard crumbled to the mat in a heap, and seeing what happened Conway immediately kicked Animal as hard as he could in the balls. Hawk hit the ring to attack Conway, and Whatley was in right after him. Chaos erupted as Iceman King Parsons, Brickhouse Brown, Koko Ware, and Norvell Austin all hit the ring with steel chairs. Brown, Koko, and Austin ganged up on Hawk, pulled him out to the floor and beat him unmercifully with the chairs. In the ring Parsons clubbed Animal over the head with a chair then he, Whatley, and Conway set Animal up and gave him a huge double assist Spike Piledriver onto the chair. The four intruders took their weapons and disappeared. Hawk lay bleeding on the area floor. Tiger Conway covered the still not moving Animal, and Shaska Whatley shook Rick Hazzard into consciousness before standing like nothing ever happened on the apron. Groggily Hazzard crawled toward where Conway was covering Animal and counted One...Two....Three..... WINNERS, AND NEW AWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: SHASKA WHATLEY & TIGER CONWAY JR: THE MOVEMENT!!! INTERMISSION 6) Kerry Von Erich/Mr. Olympia vs The Grapplers (The Grappler/Grappler 2) The moment the bell rang, all four men were in the middle of the ring exchanging punches! Kerry and Olympia quickly got the upper hand and sent both Grapplers scrambling for the floor, and the Superdome crowd was loving it! Once Referee Ron West got things under control, the opening minutes saw all four men tagging in and out and having a fairly standard tag team match. That lasted until The Grapplers attempted to double team Von Erich, and then Olympia hit the ring and again we had all four men brawling like crazy! Once Ron West got Olympia out of the ring, Grappler 2 hopped back into the ring and locked up with Kerry to get things back underway, and quickly found himself on the receiving end of another round of punches, and when Kerry threatened The Iron Claw, he quickly tagged out to The Grappler! The Grappler came in and didn't fare much better, also eating a big barrage of punches, then deftly ducking out of the way when Kerry went for the Discus Punch. Grappler locked up with Kerry again, and this time managed to whip him into the ropes, Grappler 2 stuck out a knee and caught Kerry in the back, allowing Grappler to nail him with a clothesline. After this, The Grapplers isolated Von Erich in their corner and went to work. The masked men made quick tags, when they bother to tag at all, as they sometimes just switched in out. Either way they worked Von Erich over with headlocks and facelocks. Hammered him with forearms to the back, and elbows to the head. Repeatedly slammed him to the mat, or took him over with different variations of the suplex. They tried several times to pin Von Erich, but each time he kicked out. Finally, it looked like Kerry caught a break when he was whipped into the ropes and The Grappler bent down for a back body drop. Kerry had the energy to leap over him, and catch him in a sunset flip. The stunned Grappler got counted for a Two, and then rolled out of it. Kerry crawled toward Olympia, but Grappler 2 was in the ring in a flash and kicked Kerry in the head. Olympia jumped into the ring, but Referee Ron West pushed him back out, allowing both Grapplers to drag Kerry back to their corner and make the illegal switch. Grappler 2 had Kerry in a front facelock, but Von Erich found a reserve of strength and fired an elbow into his stomach, once, twice, three times. Grappler 2 let go, Discus Punch!! Grappler 2 went down! Kerry went down! After a few seconds both men began crawling toward their respective corners. Grappler 2 arrived first and made the tag. The Grappler quickly went after Kerry, but with a burst of energy, Kerry jumped forward, AND TAGGED IN MR. OLYMPIA!!! Mr. Olympia hit the ring like a man possessed and began firing away on The Grappler with lefts and right, and then whipped him into the ropes and nailed him with a huge clothesline! Grappler 2 charged back in and got a big hiptoss for his trouble. Then when he was quickly back to his feet, Olympia nailed him with a big atomic drop and followed that up with a dropkick to the back of the head of Grappler 2 that sent him out of the ring and to the floor. Olympia turned around and found The Grappler now charging at him with a Lariat, but Olympia was able to duck it and Grappler ran directly into Von Erich on the apron who nailed him with a huge right hand! Grappler turned around and staggered into Olympia who swiftly kicked him in the gut, and dropped him into the mat with the DDT. Ron West counted the One, Two, Three Winners: Mr. Olympia/Kerry Von Erich 7) The Stud Stable (Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden/Buddy Landell/Al Madril/Hercules Hernandez) w/"Tn. Stud" Ron Fuller vs "Dr. D" David Schultz/Brad Armstrong/Adrian Street/King Kong Bundy/Mystery Partner- 10 Man Elimination Match Highlights: Once the Stud Stable had entered the ring……their opponents Mystery Partner was the last one to be introduced and the crowd went wild when George Thorogood's familiar 'Bad to the Bone' played and the masked BULLET made his way to the ring! Elimination #1: "The Great" Al Madril pinned "Exotic" Adrian Street after hitting him with a chain Elimination #2: King Kong Bundy pinned Jimmy Golden after a 'big splash' Elimination #3: Hercules Hernandez pinned Brad Armstrong with his feet on the ropes Elimination #4: King Kong Bundy was disqualified when the referee reversed a decision after Bundy pinned Madril but Madril slipped a chain in the back of Bundy's singlet as Bundy was getting up after the pin and Landel convinced the referee that Bundy hit Madril with the chain to get the pin. Elimination #5: The Bullet eliminated Robert Fuller by putting him out with a sleeper Elimination #6: "Dr. D" David Schultz pinned Al Madril after a piledriver Elimination #7: "Dr. D" walked out and eliminated himself after Ron Fuller came over and gave him a briefcase containing his $25,000….Schultz checked the money and then accepted Fuller's offer of a handshake….before dropping Fuller with a big right hand to the face and walking out with the cash….leaving the Bullet all alone….and Ron Fuller laid out on the floor before being carried out by Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden Elimination #8: The Bullet pinned Hercules Hernandez with a school boy roll up…..the crowd went wild when Bullet pinned Hercules…but Hernandez quickly jumped up and chop blocked the Bullet taking out his knee and then worked his leg over until Les Thatcher came down and threatened to fine and suspend him if he didn't vacate the ring…but the damage was done. Elimination #9: After fighting valiantly for another several minutes after the attack from Hercules, the Bullet was finally eliminated when Landel locked him in a figure four leglock but the Bullet refused to submit but finally Brad Armstrong came back down to ringside and threw in the towel to stop the match before the Bullet suffered long term injury. Winners: The Stud Stable by way of Buddy Landel 8) Barry Windham vs Big John Studd - AWA World Class Television Title/Central States Title Unification Match While Windham is one of the few men that Studd doesn't absolutely dwarf in size, he certainly has him in weight and power and that was the story of the early portion of this match. From the moment they locked up Studd used his weight advantage to back Windham into a corner, and then proceeded to just hammer on him with fists and forearms. Studd then scooped him up and took him down with a big bodyslam. After that Studd pulled Windham up and clamped on a side headlock. The match continued like this for several minutes with Studd using his size and power to wear down Windham. Finally Barry got his first offense of the match when Studd whipped him into the ropes and went for a clothesline. Windham was able to duck it, and caught Studd with a big dropkick. While it didn't take Big John off his feet, it had him reeling, and Windham came in firing with several huge right hands. Barry made the mistake of trying to whip John Studd into the ropes, and Studd threw a short clothesline that put Windham on the mat. Studd reached down and pulled Windham up by the hair, and picked him up for another big bodyslam. Windham managed to wiggle onto the shoulder of Studd and dropped down behind him, and dropkicked Big John hard in the back. Windham quickly ascended the turnbuckle, and when Studd turned around, Barry jumped off with a flying cross body block! Unfortunately for Windham, Studd caught him! Big John went to spin around with Windham and slam him, but in doing so, one of Windham's feet inadvertently caught Referee Alfred Neely in the head and sent him to the canvas. Windham soon followed, slammed hard by Studd. Studd followed it up by placing one foot on the chest of Windham and stepping up and over him. Studd reached down and pulled Windham to his feet, and hooked him for a Double Underhook Suplex. He executed it beautifully and sent Windham sailing across the ring. As Studd got back to his feet, he failed to see the man enter the ring behind him holding a steel folding chair. When that man yelled out "HEY YOU BIG SON OF A BITCH!" Studd became alerted to his presence and turned around. That is when "Dr. D" David Schultz smashed that chair directly into the forehead of Big John Studd. Studd teetered for a moment, then like a giant oak tree that got sawed down, fell straight back to the mat with a resounding thud. Schultz head up the noticeably dented chair, inspected it, smiled, then exited the ring. Barry Windham was slow getting to his feet, and when he did, he had no idea why John Studd was laid out in the middle of the ring. He just knew that twenty thousand people were screaming "PIN HIM" so he stumbled over and covered Studd. At the same time, Alfred Neely was shaking off the effects of being kicked in the head. He looked and saw Windham covering Studd and counted the One, Two, Three. WINNER, and STILL CENTRAL STATES CHAMPION, AND THE NEW AND FINAL WORLD CLASS TELEVISION CHAMPION: BARRY WINDHAM!!! 9) Nick Bockwinkel vs Kevin Von Erich - AWA World Class Heavyweight Title Nick Bockwinkel was pacing in his corner and looked less confident than usual, potentially due to having just seen his cohort Big John Studd taken out of the arena by medical personnel. Kevin Von Erich was fired up, having to be sent back to his corner by Fred Sinclair several times before the bell rang. When Sinclair called for the bell, Kevin skipped the collar and elbow and shot straight for the legs of Bockwinkel. He took him down and immediately began raining punches down on the champion. Von Erich then went for The Iron Claw early, but Bockwinkel was able to buck his hips and get out from under Von Erich. Nick quickly went to the floor to regroup. Kevin wasn't having it and followed him out to the floor, where he grabbed a handful of Bockwinkel's hair and smashed him face first into the apron. He then rolled Bockwinkel back into the ring and followed him back in. Nick was quickly to his feet and backing toward a corner, but Von Erich was on him and continued assailing him with punches. Soon Kevin climbed onto the turnbuckles and began punching away as the crowd counted along. That came to an end when Bockwinkel grabbed both of Kevins legs and walked him out of the corner for a reverse atomic drop. Nick then immediately grabbed a side headlock and took Kevin over. The match slowed significantly down after this, as Bockwinkel began to work his pace. Grinding Kevin with headlocks, hammerlocks, and every other kind of painful maneuver he could think to lock in. Bockwinkel also went for several cradles and other pinning variations, but Von Erich managed to kick out of them all. Then Nick added a little cheating to the mix, an abdominal stretch with some help from the ropes here, using the tag rope to choke Von Erich there! Bockwinkel had Von Erich in the abdominal stretch for a second go round, and the crowd was rallying behind Kevin. Finally, Von Erich mustered the energy and tossed Bockwinkel over with a big hip toss! Kevin was hurting, but with the fans behind him, he began to fire up, and when Bockwinkel got to his feet, Kevin let loose a huge dropkick that sent Nick into the turnbuckle. Kevin was up quickly and whipped Bockwinkel across the ring. Nick hit the opposite buckle hard, and when he stumbled out, Kevin came in and caught him with a flying scissors! Kevin quickly ascended the turnbuckles, and when Bockwinkel got to his feet, Kevin came off with his Turning Crossbody Block! He caught Bockwinkel square in the chest, but Referee Fred Sinclair was too close to Bockwinkel and one of Kevin's feet caught him in the face! Kevin landed on top of Bockwinkel in a pinning position, but Sinclair fell to the mat near the ropes, and then rolled to the floor holding his head. Kevin laid on top of Bockwinkel for a moment, then slapped the mat three times himself. Kevin got up and pulled Bockwinkel to his feet. Von Erich went to whip Nick into the ropes, but Bockwinkel reversed it. Kevin hit the ropes, but managed to hook his arms and stop his momentum. Bockwinkel charged him, but Kevin ducked down and back dropped him to the floor! Kevin jumped out of the ring and grabbed Bockwinkel by the hair, Bockwinkel immediately raked the eyes of Kevin and smashed his face on the apron. Bockwinkel rolled Von Erich back in the ring. Bockwinkel took a moment to recover, and then slid back into the ring. Bockwinkel grabbed the leg of Von Erich like he was going for the Figure Four, but as he bent over, Kevin's hand shot up and locked Bockwinkel in The Iron Claw!! Bockwinkel tried to pull the wrist of Kevin away, but Kevin was already sitting up and squeezing for all he was worth, and soon Bockwinkel was down to a knee. As Kevin got up to a knee, Bockwinkel was down on both knees. Referee David Manning came running to the ring as Kevin got to his feet and drove Nick Bockwinkel onto his back, Kevin straddled the Champion and continued to apply The Iron Claw for all it was worth. Bockwinkel struggled a bit longer, but eventually the movement ceased. Manning counted One, Two, Three!!! WINNER, AND NEW WORLD CLASS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: KEVIN VON ERICH!! As Kevin was celebrating his victory, referee Alfred Neely slowly made his way back into the ring shaking his head. He grabbed the title out of the hands of Von Erich and was immediately in a conference with Manning, Von Erich, and Ring Announcer Marc Lowrance, all while Bockwinkel was still laid out on the canvas. After a few seconds Kevin Von Erich angrily threw his hands in the air and walked away from the group, and kicked the bottom rope. Marc Lowrance then made the announcement that Kevin Von Erich had been Disqualified for throwing Nick Bockwinkel over the top rope, and thusly Nick Bockwinkel was still the World Class Heavyweight Champion. Winner, and Still World Class Heavyweight Champion, by Disqualification: Nick Bockwinkel 10) Ted Dibiase vs Terry Gordy - AWA World Heavyweight Title - 60 Minute Time Limit Highlights: Before the match started, Ted Dibiase took the mic and told Gordy if he knew what was good for him he would forfeit this match because his neck is not up to what he's going to put him through….Gordy's reply was simply a middle finger which seemed to really rattle Dibiase and he really came after Gordy in the early part of this match……the match was pretty even back and forth until about 20 minutes in when Gordy went for a backdrop and Dibiase countered with a swinging neckbreaker…..from this point on Dibiase zeroed in on the neck of Gordy looking to exploit the previous injury……for the rest of the match Dibiase hit Gordy with every variation of a neckbreaker and neck submission in the book….but couldn't put Gordy away…..Gordy made a big comeback around the 53 minute mark and had Dibiase reeling…Gordy hit the ropes and went for a "Thesz Press" and Dibiase caught him around the waist and dropped him with a "hot shot" across the top rope right on his neck…Dibiase covered and scored the 1-2-3!! Great day for the fan favorites with Windham and Kevin VE walking away with titles. These joint cards are perfect for our game a lot of fun to read. I had a feeling the other day that Garvin was going to win the Round Up but he came through here. Garvin is awesome as he can do it all. Fun watching the former great team of Steamboat and Youngblood teaming up. Garvin does some great heeling and wins the battle royal. Super Black Ninja continues to dominate and gets some great exposure with a win over Steve O. Islanders and Midnights have a wild match. Islanders have to settle for a DQ win but the look on Cornette's face after Tonga no sold that racket shot was priceless. No more Rat Patrol and no more Soul Patrol as the Bruthahood is born. It took a lot of men and a lot of chairs to do it but The Movement defeat the Road Warriors to become NEW AWA TAG TEAM CHAMPS! I love the Road Warriors but man I cant wait for a Movement title reign. I have to book them in TNT real soon! Kerry and Olympia finally get payback on the Grapplers. Great finish! The Elimination tag lived up to expectations. Lot's of intrigue and drama. Bullet comes in as the Mystery partner. Shultz takes the money and runs. And of course Buddy Landel is the last man standing. Classic Continental style match. Stud and Windham put on a hard hitting contest. WOW! Shultz blasts Stud and Windham unifies the titles! Shultz is one of my favorites in the league. Windham is a major player in WCCW. Absolute classic between Bock and Kevin! I thought Kevin won it! But NO! The classic Dusty finish LOL. I have to admit, I wasn't ready for Bock's reign to end so this works out and it keeps Kevin strong. Dibiase and Gordy finish the show. Gordy hung in there but the neck was the issue and Dibiase capitalized to retain the AWA title! Dibiase is ruling the AWA. Awesome job! I hope WCCW and Continental do this again. I hope to see a more devious side to Sunshine as time progresses because that way, you can make HTM a more serious threat than ever in World Class! I have to say the match of the loop for me was Midnight Express vs. Steamboat and Youngblood! What a classic! So glad you're teaming Youngblood and Steamboat. They really were a great team. Stasiak still has a lot of fire as he goes toe to toe with Dr. D. The Movement keeps their momentum going with a big win over the Windhams and Houston. Solid main event with two feuds going. I know I keep saying it, but I love Garvin... he was pure magic in getting the fans into it.... sometimes they were with him but I like it better when they were against him. I like the Highway Men and HTM in the middle of the card as they are good at putting on a show until the big guns come out Was surprised to see Stasiak get the DDQ against Schultz. Schultz has been on a roll of late and I could see him going over right away in World Class I like the Movement as transitional champs but think you might have the next champs right there on your roster as I love the Midnight Express as they could get heat all over the country and slide right into that Semi-Main event in every territory as could Steamboat and Youngblood.... whoever comes out on top of this program is the team to beat. Jim Ross: Good Evening Ladies and Gentleman, and Welcome to AWA World Class Wrestling. I am your host for this evening Jim Ross, and I am coming to you tonight from the World Class Studio, where I am going to bring you some of the action from that we witnessed this past Sunday night in Louisiana at the Superdome. It was an event called The Battle for New Orleans, and what a night it was! So sit back, and over the course of the evening we will bring you highlights of some of the great matches that went down that night. -20 Man $20,000 Winner Take All Over the Top Rope Battle Royal- -Highlight- Elimination #5 & #6: Brian Adias and Iceman King Parson found one another and that was it for then focusing on anyone else. First the punches flew, then they got locked in a death grip of trying to force one another over the top rope. That was all Duncum and Hickerson, The Highwaymen needed to walk up behind them and shove both men over the ropes and to the floor. Brian Adias is Eliminated Iceman King Parsons is Eliminated -Highlight- Elimination #18 & #19: As Steamboat was getting to his feet, Garvin and Hayes grabbed him from behind and rushed him to the ropes trying to eliminate him. They managed to throw him over, but failed to notice that he held on! Steamboat was in the process of skinning the cat when Michael Hayes noticed that he wasn't eliminated. Hayes went back over to finish the job, but was shocked when Steamboat wrapped his legs around the head of Hayes. Steamboat had pulled Hayes most of the way out of the ring by the time Garvin noticed what was happening. Jimmy took in the scene for a moment, shrugged his shoulders, then charged in with a knee to the back of Steamboat. "The Dragon" lost his grip, causing both he and Hayes to tumble to the floor. Michael Hayes is Eliminated Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is Eliminated Winner: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin Jim Ross: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin came up short after going nearly forty minutes in the Great Texas Round Up last week, but two nights later won Twenty Thousand dollars in another battle royal, so his weekend wasn't all bad! Before we take our first break, let's take a look at how Jim Cornette saved the tag team titles for The Midnight Express. 1 Fall, 60 Minute Time Limit -The Islanders (Samu/Tonga Kid) vs The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton/Dennis Condrey) w/Jim Cornette- AWA World Class Tag Team Titles Finally, when Samu was shot into the ropes and The Express bent down for what appeared to be a double backdrop, Samu put on the brakes, grabbed the heads of Eaton and Condrey and gave them a double noggin knocker!! As they both stumbled around momentarily stunned, Samu leapt toward his corner and tagged in Tonga Kid! Tonga came in and delivered a huge chop to Eaton! Huge chop to Condrey! Headbutt to Eaton! Headbutt to Condrey! Thrust Kick to Eaton! Thrust Kick to Condrey! Both members of The Midnight Express rolled out of the ring and were trying to regroup on the floor, but the next thing they knew, Tonga Kid was on the floor with them, and he gave them a double noggin knocker!! Tonga tossed Beautiful Bobby back into the ring, and as he was going to follow him back in, WHAM!! Jim Cornette cracked Tonga Kid in the back with the tennis racket! As the bell was ringing, Tonga Kid turned around and stared down Cornette who's eyes grew wide as dinner plates, and when Tonga Kid stuck out his tongue, Cornette turned white as a ghost. Tonga Kid let loose with a thrust to the throat that sent Cornette flying backwards into Dennis Condrey and both of them crashed to the concrete. Tonga rolled back into the ring where Samu was throwing Bobby Eaton out of the ring, and The Islanders stood tall. Kevin was up quickly and whipped Bockwinkel across the ring. Nick hit the opposite buckle hard, and when he stumbled out, Kevin came in and caught him with a flying scissors! Kevin quickly ascended the turnbuckles, and when Bockwinkel got to his feet, Kevin came off with his Turning Crossbody Block! He caught Bockwinkel square in the chest, but Referee Fred Sinclair was too close to Bockwinkel and one of Kevin's feet caught him in the face! Kevin landed on top of Bockwinkel in a pinning position, but Sinclair fell to the mat near the ropes, and then rolled to the floor holding his head. Kevin laid on top of Bockwinkel for a moment, then slapped the mat three times himself. Kevin got up and pulled Bockwinkel to his feet. Von Erich went to whip Nick into the ropes, but Bockwinkel reversed it. Kevin hit the ropes, but managed to hook his arms and stop his momentum. Bockwinkel charged him, but Kevin ducked down and back dropped him to the floor! Kevin jumped out of the ring and grabbed Bockwinkel by the hair, Bockwinkel immediately raked the eyes of Kevin and smashed his face on the apron. Bockwinkel rolled Von Erich back in the ring. Bockwinkel took a moment to recover, and then slid back into the ring. Bockwinkel grabbed the leg of Von Erich like he was going for the Figure Four, but as he bent over, Kevin's hand shot up and locked Bockwinkel in The Iron Claw!! Bockwinkel tried to pull the wrist of Kevin away, but Kevin was already sitting up and squeezing for all he was worth, and soon Bockwinkel was down to a knee. As Kevin got up to a knee, Bockwinkel was down on both knees. Referee David Manning came running to the ring as Kevin got to his feet and drove Nick Bockwinkel onto his back, Kevin straddled the Champion and continued to apply The Iron Claw for all it was worth. Bockwinkel struggled a bit longer, but eventually the movement ceased. Manning counted One, Two, Three!!! WINNER, AND NEW WORLD CLASS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: KEVIN VON ERICH!! As Kevin was celebrating his victory, referee Alfred Neely slowly made his way back into the ring shaking his head. He grabbed the title out of the hands of Von Erich and was immediately in a conference with Manning, Von Erich, and Ring Announcer Marc Lowrance, all while Bockwinkel was still laid out on the canvas. After a few seconds Kevin Von Erich angrily threw his hands in the air and walked away from the group, and kicked the bottom rope. Marc Lowrance then made the announcement that Kevin Von Erich had been Disqualified for throwing Nick Bockwinkel over the top rope, and thusly Nick Bockwinkel was still the World Class Heavyweight Champion. Winner, and Still World Class Heavyweight Champion, by Disqualification: Nick Bockwinkel -Commercial Break- Jim Ross: Welcome back folks. As you saw, Kevin Von Erich won the World Class Heavyweight Title, but because in the heat of the moment he broke a rule that some consider outdated in the first place, Nick Bockwinkel is still the World Class Champion. Here's my take on the World Class portion of the Superdome show.... Jimmy Garvin wins the battle royal!! I like it! The Movement finally overcomes the stranglehold that the Road Warriors had on the AWA World Tag Team titles....I look forward to their reign as champions! Kerry/Mr. Olympia get the win over the Grapplers after a heated few weeks on both shows.... I liked the Dusty finish for Kevin vs. Bockwinkel! The fans got the feel good moment thinking Von Erich was the new champion but you still get the heat from Bockwinkel retaining....I agree that there's still a lot of mileage left in the Bockwinkel title reign. Fun loop of house shows......I would have bought a ticket strictly for the Midnight Express vs. Steamboat/Youngblood....however there was plenty of other great matches on the cards.....Huge win for the Movement as well!! Television cameras are rolling, Jim Ross and Bill Watts are on commentary, Marc Lowrance is ready, let's head to the ring! 1) "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin/"Hollywood" John Tatum/"Gorgeous" Gary Young w/Precious vs Barry Windham/Kendall Windham/Sam Houston These six men have been fighting with each other in different combinations for a while, and tonight it came together as a wild six man brawl started the match off. Once the referee got it under control it maintained some semblance of a wrestling contest for a while, but it was obvious that tempers were ready to flare at any moment. When they did, all six men ended up fighting again, and in the chaos Jimmy Garvin was handed something from Precious. He used it to knock Kendall Windham out cold, and once the other four men were cleared out of the ring, Garvin covered Kendall for the One, Two, Three. Winners: Jimmy Garvin/John Tatum/Gary Young 2) "Dr. D" David Schultz vs Stan Stasiak Schultz hit the ring like a mad man and attacked Stasiak before the bell ever had a chance to ring. He was still carrying the dented chair that he had used on Big John Studd, and he smashed it repeatedly into the back of Stasiak who was trying desperately to get out of the ring. Finally he did, and he headed straight up the aisle nursing his wounds. Schultz stood in the ring holding the even more dented chair looking like a mad man. Winner: No Contest 3) Kevin Von Erich vs Baron Von Raschke This was a back and forth contest from the opening bell, and it was obvious that both men had one goal in mind, The Iron Claw. Each man was executing moves that centered on one of two things, working over the head, or injuring the hand. At one point a good fifteen minutes into the match, Von Raschke managed to apply his version of The Claw on Kevin, but Von Erich was able to rotate his body in such a way that he could escape. A few minutes later, Kevin caught Von Raschke in The Iron Claw in a standing position. Von Raschke struggled his way to the ropes and pretty much threw himself out of the ring to escape the hold. Once he got to his feet, he walked out for the Count Out. Winner, by Count Out: Kevin Von Erich 4) The Highwaymen (Phil Hickerson/Bobby Duncum) vs The Glamour Boys (Steve Doll/Steve Simpson) - Street Fight The Glamour Boys came for blood as they attacked The Highwaymen before the bell, and this one went all over the ringside area. Chairs, the guard rail, and even the time keepers table were involved. At one point Steve Simpson dove off the top rope onto the floor with a crossbody block onto both Highwaymen! The Glamour Boys came close to winning when they connected with Glitz and Glamour, the top tope dropkick/top tope splash combo they use, but it was broken up at the last possible second. The end finally came when The Highwaymen nailed Doll with a nasty spike piledriver and pinned him. Winners: The Highwaymen INTERMISSION 5) Bruiser Brody vs Big John Studd From the moment the bell rang these two monsters just hammered one another with fists and forearms. Brody finally tired of it and rocked Studd with a big kick, but John was game and kicked Brody in the gut and dropped him with a massive slam. These two continued back and forth just beating on each other, until David Schultz hit the ring with his steel chair, and clocked Big John Studd in the head again. Studd hit the mat like a ton of bricks, and Schultz had a big grin on his face. Brody however didn't as he realized that Schultz just got him disqualified, so Brody kicked the chair hard into the face of Schultz and sent him crashing to the canvas. An angry Brody then stormed to the back. Winner, by Disqualification: Big John Studd 6) Brian Adias/Jay Youngblood/Mark Youngblood vs Iceman King Parson/Shaska Whatley/Tiger Conway Jr This one stayed surprisingly for the most part a straight up wrestling match for the longest time. Both teams made frequent tags, and neither seemed to have a clear cut advantage until finally Conway resorted to cheating and caught Mark Youngblood with a low blow. After that The Movement worked Youngblood over viciously in their corner and kept the advantage for some time. Finally Mark made the hot tag to his brother and the tide turned. The end came when Adias and Parson were fighting on the floor, and Jay had just tumbled out of the ring with Conway. Whatley was the legal man, and hadn't seen Jay make the blind tag to his brother. Mark had quickly scaled the turnbuckles and executed a picture perfect Flying Crossbody Block onto Whatley for the One, Two, Three! Winners: Brian Adias & The Youngbloods 7) Kerry Von Erich vs The Grappler This one was a war from the opening bell! Kerry was busted open in less than two minutes after the action spilled to the floor, and The Grappler ran him into the post. Grappler stayed on the offensive for a while, just bombarding Kerry with high impact offense and trying multiple times to get a pin fall. Grappler tossed Kerry to the floor again, and this time Von Erich had enough and he sent Grappler crashing into this post! Von Erich pounced on top of him and clawed and ripped at the mask until he tore a hole in it. Kerry then punched away until blood was streaming down the partially exposed face of The Grappler. Von Erich tossed Grappler back into the ring, and the two bloody warriors went toe to toe in the center of the ring exchanging punches and chops. When both were staggered and teetering, Von Erich spun into a Discus Punch and sent The Grappler crashing to the canvas. Kerry shook his head to clear the cob webs, and held his hand up for the Iron Claw. He dropped down and sunk it deep onto the head of The Grappler who struggled briefly, but then seemed to fade away. Referee David Manning counted One, Two, Three. Winner: Kerry Von Erich 8) Nick Bockwinkel vs Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat - AWA World Class Heavyweight Title These two came out and put on an absolute masterpiece of professional wrestling. For every hold a counter hold, for every strike a counter strike. Steamboat used all of his martial arts repertoire to try and confound the technical wrestler, but Bockwinkel was able to overcome. Bockwinkel used every hold, every counter to try and get one over on Steamboat, but The Dragon proved to be a student of the game. On and on they went, back and forth, back and forth. One Counts, Two Counts, counts so close that the fans came out of their seats thinking that a new champion had just been crowned. Bockwinkel caught Steamboat with the Piledriver, but Ricky got his feet on the ropes. Steamboat executed a picture perfect Flying Crossbody, but Bockwinkel lifted the shoulder at the last possible second. Bockwinkel went for the Figure Four, but Steamboat cradled him! Garvin and company are on a roll and thanks to Precious they get the opening win. Poor Stasiak took a beating from Shultz and a chair! I was intrigued by the battle of the claw match. Kevin clamps it on but Baron escapes and walks out. This one isn't over. Highwaymen get the big street fight win. This has been a great feud and did a good job of getting both teams over. Shultz is one bad dude and has got to be nuts as he now has issues with both Studd and Brody! Adias and Youngbloods get a huge win over the Movement. The Youngbloods just might have earned themselves an AWA World tag title match. Kerry finally puts down the Grappler! Bock vs. Steamboat! What a classic battle between two all time greats.
