Great Supercard this month.  I am excited to see what Reggie B. and Rhonda Singh can do as the tag champs.  Also, a tough night for Wendy Richter just adds the angle of her rise to the top of WWW.  Sorry for being missing for a while.

Can't say Richter isn't tough. She gives Moretti one heck of a fight but the previous injuries catch up. Moretti retains!

Wendi Richter versus Debbie Combs for the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship

This week, we open with a recap of the supercard, transitioning seamlessly into a preview of tonight’s card. Wendi Richter has her work cut out for her, with three matches – three title defences.

The commentators explain that her first match should be relatively easy, as she takes on Candice Pardue, but it’s obvious very early on that she’s still suffering from the effects of her performances on Saturday. As a result, the television title match is highly competitive. Candice Pardue works on her opponent’s leg throughout, hoping to ensure that Wendi Richter is unable to get her up for a powerbomb.

In the end, however, an enraged champ is able to fight through the pain and deliver her signature manoeuvre.

We then get a promotional music video before heading down to the interviews. Candice Pardue complains that Wendi Richter is simply too tough but hopes she did enough damage to hurt her chances later on tonight. Wendi Richter goes on an unhinged rant, promising to win all of her matches and prove herself as the single most dominant competitor on the roster.

A commercial break then takes us through to a six-woman tag team match, with Wendi Richter and the Nasty Girls looking to defend their titles from the Giant Slayers: Desiree Petersen, Winona Little Heart and Susan Starr.

With Selina Majors at ringside to cheer them on, the Giant Slayers take an extremely aggressive approach, capitalising on the fact that Wendi Richter is bruised and exhausted and uninterested in competing. The Nasty Girls are by no means pushovers, but they struggle with essentially being one woman down.

Wendi Richter, to her team’s detriment, manages to go the entire match avoiding being tagged in, regularly stepping away when either of her partners came to her corner. Predictably, this cost them the titles.

A brief recap of the dissolution of the Monsters and the growing feud between Medusa Miceli and Luna Vachon then plays us into the interviews. With Wendi Richter nowhere to be seen, the Nasty Girls are able to lay the blame squarely at her feet, even floating the idea of challenging for the titles with a different partner. The Giant Slayers gush over their victory, downplaying Wendi Richter’s behaviour and promising to hold onto the belts for a long time to come.

The second commercial break then gets us through to the main event. Debbie Combs is forced to wait an excruciatingly long time as Wendi Richter takes as long as she can to get into the ring. Whilst it’s impossible for the champ to fully disguise her trepidation, she tries to make up for it with violence. It’s not just that she abuses the referee’s five count, it’s that she clearly doesn’t care whether or not she is disqualified.

Debbie Combs catches onto this rather quickly and is forced to plan around it, preventing her opponent from leaving the ring and extricating herself from illegal holds. This dynamic creates an even sided and fairly nasty contest. However, there’s nothing Wendi Richter can do to stop the challenger from attacking her weaker leg whenever she gets the chance.

This plays into the finish when the champ’s knee buckles during a powerbomb attempt and the challenger ends up falling on her and crushing her chest.

As tough as Richter is, the Supercard and tonight's matches caught up. Combs plays a smart game and wins the dual titles! Maybe Richter needs to take a breather and regroup. I will say, it's great seeing Combs with some gold again.

Medusa Miceli versus Penny Mitchell

This week, we open with a shot of Wendi Richter after her loss in last week’s main event. The footage transitions to the opening match, as an already enraged Wendi Richter looks to defend her television title from Desiree Petersen.

As the contest progresses, Wendi Richter demonstrates that she has both the technical advantage and the power advantage, but her foul mood causes her to regularly get carried away and make mistakes. The champ is also frequently antagonised by the rest of the Giant Slayers at ringside.

The finish is stunning, then, as Wendi Richter is distracted by a torrent of abuse from Selina Majors and gets rolled up.

Desiree Petersen defeats Wendi Richter in 12:34 by pinfall with a schoolboy roll-up to win the WWW Television Championship

Desiree Petersen then rushes to the back with her stablemates as Wendi Richter, who got her shoulder up a split second after the three-count, fumes in the middle of the ring.

A music video promoting Lisa Moretti then plays before we get to what should be the interviews.

Instead, we follow Wendi Richter through the corridors backstage as she hunts for the Giant Slayers. When she finds them sitting and waiting for their interview time, she launches herself at Selina Majors and wails on her with such ferocity that she seems possessed. She is eventually pulled away by the other Giant Slayers and give beatdown of her own before we cut to commercials.

We return in time for some tag team action as Goldie Ray makes her in-ring debut, teaming up with her partner Trudy Adams to take on Leilani Kai and Judy Martin. With their minions around the ring, the heels do not take this challenge seriously and pay for it in the opening rounds of the match.

Trudy Adams and Goldie Ray know that their best chance to pull off a victory is to go hard and to go fast and snatch a pinfall before their opponents even know what hit them. This shockingly almost works when Trudy Adams manages to get a two-count on Judy Martin. However, once a focused and determined Leilani Kai enters the ring, their fortunes change.

What ensues is a fun back-and-forth with the Glamour Girls generally in control and eventually coming out on top.

A hype package for the main event then plays before we head to the interviews. The faces try to console themselves and suggest that the match may have played out differently if the troublemakers Despina Montagas and Liz Chase hadn’t been at ringside. The Glamour Girls cackle over their victory, ironically making their opponents seem like a tougher challenge than they were and say they’re more than capable of taking back the tag team titles.

Our second commercial break then brings us to the main event.

Medusa Miceli and Penny Mitchell are raring to go by the time the bell rings and they immediately rip into each other. Penny Mitchell is fighting for a chance to break into the title picture and Medusa Miceli is desperately trying to make sure she can stay in the title picture. The fight is nasty, with both women primarily using strikes, and with loads of ringside brawling.

Candi Devine is an important part of Penny Mitchell’s arsenal, as Medusa Miceli clearly holds the technical advantage. The finish is a chaotic affair as Luna Vachon rushes down to the ring to mess things up. Intuiting what she intends to do, Candi Devine steps up to the ring apron to distract the referee.

Apparently prepared for her appearance, however, Medusa Miceli manages to throw Penny Mitchell into Luna Vachon – their skulls crack against each other and the interloper takes a nasty fall from the apron. Medusa Miceli is then free to take Candi Devine down with a clothesline and end the match.

WOW! Shocking upset as Peterson takes the TV title from Richter! Richter has been one of the best written characters in the game. I'm really enjoying her current storyline.

We kick off this week’s show with a video package detailing all of Wendi Richter’s recent losses and ending with a bit of hype for her shot at retaking a couple of her titles in tonight’s main event. After that, we move on to the traditional television title opener, with Desiree Petersen facing Leilani Kai.

With both stables at ringside, we get a lot of brawling and crowd interaction to go along with a nice back-and-forth traditional match. It seems as though it could truly go either way and both women get a near-fall in the last five minutes. The finish comes when Leilani Kai misses a big boot. Desiree Petersen rebounds from an Irish whip but manages to duck under her opponent’s finisher and come back with a hard strike across the back of her head.

A sponsored video them plays – with footage of various babyfaces at outdoor business venues – before we head to the interviews. The Glamour Girls, predictably, assert foul play and Leilani Kai consoles herself with the belief that she and Judy Martin are on track to win the tag team titles. Desiree Petersen celebrates with her fellow Giant Slayers but says she needs to make sure she’s ready to face Wendi Richter when the inevitable rematch with the former champ comes around.

A commercial break then takes us through to a grudge match between Medusa Miceli and Luna Vachon.

There is a considerable amount of palpable rage between the two and they begin thrashing each other before the bell rings. Medusa Miceli has the technical advantage, but Luna Vachon is much nastier, clawing and biting like a wild animal whenever she gets the chance. The match is not pretty, and the finish is telegraphed far in advance.

Unable to put her enemy on the backfoot, Luna Vachon decides to sacrifice a point in the win column for a slice of revenge. Medusa Miceli is thrown into the ringside barrier and then gets a steel chair wrapped across her back for good measure.

The bell rings but Luna Vachon continues her savage attack, with stomps and repeated whacks with the chair. With the few staff at ringside unable to successfully intervene, Velvet McIntyre emerges from the back with a chair of her own to scare the attacker off. We cut to our second commercial break just as a groggy Medusa Miceli is helped to her feet.

When we return, the main event gets underway immediately, and the story of the match quickly develops. Wendi Richter might otherwise have held an advantage, but she is in her own head. Debbie Combs, along with audience, picks up on this and taunts her every step of the way.

This is never clearer than when the challenger manages to pull off her signature powerbomb on the outside technique but is subsequently distracted by jeering from the crowd. This almost ends the match as Wendi Richter nearly manages to be counted out. Debbie Combs then makes her pay dearly for her inattention with a violent clothesline.

This time around, the finish is far more decisive.

She hides it well but the Wendi Richter we end on a shot of is on the verge of tears.

Peterson proves her title win was no fluke with a win over Kai. Smart of her to keep an eye out of Richter.

Luna take the L in exchange for causing maximum damage. I suspect she considered that a fair trade.

Richter's recent downturn is really getting to her. She's gonna have to get a little drastic to turn things around.

Peterson proves she's a worthy champion by beating the very credible Kai.

Luna puts some sizzling heat on her feud with Medusa. That beatdown was brutal. I'm loving this feud! 

WOW! Richter is really losing it. Combs takes advantage of, well, everything and puts Richter down. Either Richter is going to have a full on mental breakdown or somehow manage to regroup. This is one of the best storylines going.

Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LXIX – 23^rd of March 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada

Wendi Richter versus Babyface Nellie

We start off hot this week, with Rhonda Singh thundering into Desiree Petersen in the traditional television title opener. The champ has perhaps been made overconfident by her recent successes and her challenger knocks her right back down to Earth. The Giant Slayers serve as moral support at ringside and each do their fair share of brawling with Reggie Bennett, but things are far less balanced inside the ring.

Desiree Petersen is beaten from pillar to post, prolonging the manage only through her wiles and her pure will. Rhonda Singh makes sure to bring her to the point of exhaustion before going into her finishing sequence.

After that we get a promotional video for Lisa Moretti to transition us to the interviews. Desiree Petersen laments the loss of her title and asks for a rematch – pledging to train hard in the meantime. Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett crow about the victory but mostly use their interview to run down their competition in the tag team division and promise a successful title defence at the supercard.

A commercial break then brings us to some tag team action.

The narrative for this match is obvious almost as soon as it begins. Leilani Kai and Judy Martin are merciless heels but generally the worse team overall. Misty Blue Simmes and Heidi Lee Morgan, on the other hand, make an excellent team – but Heidi Lee Morgan is still the weak link and still hurting from her treatment by the former Monsters.

The Glamour Girls take every liberty they can and try to isolate Heidi Lee Morgan. This only serves to light a fire in the belly of Misty Blue Simmes, however, who uses her time as the illegal partner to harry Despina Montagas and Liz Chase. By the time she’s done with them, their ability to affect the finish is severely diminished.

Everything comes down to whether Heidi Lee Morgan can drag herself away from the action to get a tag off. It takes a lot out of her, but she eventually manages with a savage kick to the face of Leilani Kai when the heel bents to pick her up.

A hype package for the main event then plays before we arrive at the interviews. The Glamour Girls are screaming and ranting and raving and Leilani Kai makes a dramatic show of holding her nose as though it were pleading as they demand a rematch. Misty Blue Simmes and Heidi Lee Morgan say they’ve got what it takes to snatch their titles back at the supercard.

A second commercial break then brings us to the main event.

The match is nasty from the very beginning, with Wendi Richter immediately resorting to scratching, hair-pulling, shin-scraping and tangling her opponent up in the ropes. Babyface Nellie takes quite a beating throughout, but her opponent’s inattention and general sloppiness prove easy to capitalise on. The result is a back-and-forth, with phases of awkward grappling and savage striking.

Wendi Richter becomes increasingly rattled, set off by a hostile ground, her own near-constant mistakes and Babyface Nellie – who never misses an opportunity to get in her head. The finish comes when Wendi Richter decides to go high-risk and eats a boot for her trouble. A Russian leg sweep then puts the former world champion on the ground, in prime position.

The gorgeous ladies of... wait sorry... these women are wonderful! It is fun to see how things are working out for Richter. She is the face of the promotion in some ways and her credibility isn't tarnished but rather built her into a bigger star in some ways. Good to see that Misty Blue can come and work between takes on her side gig.

Hot tag match as Misty Blue takes charge to help get her team the win. I will say this, these matches are going to make Morgan tougher. 

Babyface Nellie gets the biggest win of her career by taking down Richter! Like Lowblow mentioned, these losses don't tarnish Richter, they make this story better. 

Things are falling into place nicely for the next supercard

Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. LXX – “March Spectacular” – 29^th of March 1987 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada

Lisa Moretti versus Babyface Nellie for the NWA World Women’s Championship

This week, we open unconventionally with Pat Patterson at the commentary desk to run down the company’s big shakeup. Wonder Women Wrestling is switching to a TV-only format, monthly supercards are being wrapped up, the weekly television programme is moving to two hours and each year will see three “mega-events”; in April, August and December.

We then move onto the television title match, a rematch between Rhonda Singh and Desiree Petersen. Both women clearly hate each other and go hard on each other as soon as the bell rings. Rhonda Singh has an advantage but she’s racing against time, trying to make sure she remains in a fit enough state to defend her tag team titles later on tonight.

Desiree Petersen also knows that Rhonda Singh needs to be in a good condition after the match and makes exhausting her a secondary objective. The result is a really nasty match that leaves both women bruised and achy. In the end, however, Rhonda Singh is able to bring her weight to bear and defend her championship.

 A hype package for the main event then takes us through to the interviews. The Giant Slayers console their leader on her loss, and she says that she thinks Winona Little Heart deserves to have a shot at the TV champ. Rhonda Singh is joined by Reggie Bennett and the two women focus on their upcoming match, declaring that they’ll send Heidi Lee Morgan to the hospital if she uses dirty tactics to steal their titles.

A commercial break then takes us through to the tag team title match.

If Rhonda Singh is still hurting, she does a good job of hiding it and starts the match off. Misty Blue Simmes takes the fight to her, and the two women have what would be a great singles match, hammering the hell out of each other. We get a lot of crowd interaction here, with all four women brawling at ringside at various times and Rhonda Singh even pulling off a brutal diving splash from the crowd barrier onto Heidi Lee Morgan.

We head to a commercial break with Misty Blue Simmes in a perilous state but return to see her taking it to a Rhonda Singh who appears bruised and exhausted. A tag to Reggie Bennett shifts the momentum around, however, and when a hurting Heidi Lee Morgan feels compelled to tag herself in, things look even worse for the challengers.

With Heidi Lee Morgan brutalised and Misty Blue Simmes screaming in indignation at ringside, the finish comes out of nowhere. Being brought up for an atomic drop, Heidi Lee Morgan manages to kick out, knocking Rhonda Singh down to the arena floor and swinging herself up and over Reggie Bennett. Reggie Bennett comes down hard and only manages to get one of her shoulders up after the three-count.

When we come back from a promotional video for the upcoming “mega-event” in April, Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett are thoroughly enraged, beating on their opponents and manhandling the hapless staffers trying to stop them. Predictably, the pair reserve their nastiest punishment for Heidi Lee Morgan who is crushed with splashes from both of them about half a dozen times. Eventually, the Giant Slayers rush to the aid of their fellow faces and the attackers run off.

A commercial break then brings us to a match between Debbie Combs and Mad Maxine for the former’s dual championship. The challenger has a size advantage but little else and the match ultimately serves as a spotlight for the champion’s move set. Enjoying the room to breathe, she plays to the crowd with a few high-risk manoeuvres before settling into a familiar pattern for the finish.

A sponsor-filled ad for the new merchandise catalogue then takes us through to the interviews. Mad Maxine begins to speak but is cut off by Luna Vachon, who comes up from behind her and grabs her in a chokehold and thrashes her around as she launches into a deranged rant about Medusa Miceli and threatens to prevent her from accomplishing anything in the company ever again.

Debbie Combs uses her interview time to talk about the big schedule shakeup and announces her plan to steal the show at the first mega-event in April.

A commercial break then takes us to the main event. Lisa Moretti gets a grand entrance, with a lightshow and a bit of pyro, before the bell rings. With Babyface Nellie living up to her name and Lisa Moretti generally walking a lighter path, we get a clean and technical bout in the early goings, with plenty of holds and reversals. Though things seem relatively balanced between the two, Babyface Nellie always comes away a little worse for wear after each major clash.

The two are still in a relatively equal position after the commercial break but both are sweaty and breathless. A powerslam threatens to end things relatively early but Babyface Nellie manages to roll out of the ring and Lisa Moretti uses it as opportunity to catch her breath instead of going after her. The challenger is then able to compose herself enough to knock the champ down with a clothesline upon her return, but Lisa Moretti dodges a running knee drop.

The finish is simple. Babyface Nellie runs at the champ with a crossbody but gets it reversed into another powerslam by a reenergised Lisa Moretti.

The commentators push the fact that the company has now permanently moved to two hours, and we end on a shot of an exhilarated Lisa Moretti.

Hard hitting TV title match to kick things off. Singh retains against former champ Peterson. Will Singh have enough left for the tag title match?

Well, Singh does have enough left but the champs still get upset by Morgan and Misty Blue. We have new tag champs! 

The celebration is short lived as Singh and Bennett give the new champs a brutal beating.

Combs fights off Maxine to retain the Dual titles. 

Damn, Luna really gets her point across threatening Madusa.

Moretti and Nellie give the fans over 30 minutes of exciting action. Moretti retains in a classic.

We open this week’s programme with a snazzy new graphic, displaying the words “Season One” before transitioning to a leader board, showing every woman on the roster and a series of zeroes by her name.

Our traditional television title opener sees Winona Little Heart challenge Rhonda Singh. In a reversal of last week’s circumstances, Rhonda Singh is now the one looking to disable her opponent and make it hard for her to win her second match of the night. Winona Little Heart anticipates this, however, and uses a highly evasive style as a result, preferring to exhaust her opponent rather than focus on dealing damage.

Once we enter the finishing stretch, and an increasingly frustrated Rhonda Singh is sweaty and breathless, Winona Little Heart decides to step things up a notch and hit her with a missile dropkick. The champ miraculously stays on her feet but when she goes to pick the challenger up, Selina Majors instinctively launches a hand through the ropes and grabs a hold of her ankle. The subsequent distraction puts Rhonda Singh in a vulnerable position and Winona Little Heart capitalises immediately.

The resulting chaos eats through the interview time as the Giant Slayers take on Rhonda Singh and Reggie Bennett in a violent brawl and gets out of hand quick and requires a horde of staff members to bring to an end.

A commercial break then takes us through to our first ever “Season Match”, with Goldie Ray taking on Ashly Kennedy. Both women have their tag partners in their corner.

Whilst neither woman holds a distinct technical advantage, indeed they both regularly make mistakes, Ashly Kennedy goes to the well immediately with dirty tactics and extreme aggression. Goldie Ray holds her own and is buoyed by the moral support in her corner but struggles to open the match up.

A sponsor-filled video package then transitions us the interviews. The camera makes sure to catch the brand name of the water bottle whenever Goldie Ray takes a sip, as she laments her loss but promises to redouble her training efforts and wishes Trudy Adams luck her own match later on. Ashly Kennedy gloats about her victory and praises the company for designing the new season system, which she says will give her a chance to prove she belongs at the top.

A second commercial break then takes us through to a special match, with Medusa Miceli and Luna Vachon fighting to determine who will pick the stipulation for their match at next week’s “mega-event”.

The match gets nasty as soon as it begins, and the commentators mention that the referee has been instructed to be lenient in anticipation of this. There is plenty of ringside brawling and even a few occasions of weapon usage, but Medusa Miceli is eventually able to bring things back into the ring and force Luna Vachon to compete in a half-way technical match.

The finish sees Medusa Miceli take her frustrations out on Luna Vachon, taking her up for three of her signature moves before trying to pin her.

A hype package – mostly focusing on Wendi Richter’s fall from grace – for the main event then plays us into the interviews. Luna Vachon is mostly unhinged and incoherent but manages to eventually communicate the fact that she’s capable or beating Medusa Miceli no matter what stipulation she picks. Medusa Miceli is joined by Velvet McIntyre, and they give a show of talking over her options before she proclaims that she’ll be end her feud with Luna Vachon in a submission match.

A third commercial break then takes us to our second season match. Trudy Adams is taking on Candice Pardue. Whilst the match starts out friendly, Candice Pardue becomes slightly frustrated by her inability to put the rookie down and consequently becomes just a little bit nastier to give herself the edge.

It pays off and Trudy Adams leaves the match with a busted lip.

A music video promoting the roster and various items of merchandise related to the top stars then plays before we get to the interviews. Trudy Adams is nursing her mouth and lets Goldie Ray do most of the talking – she runs down Candice Pardue and claims that she and her partner will eventually find their footing. Candice Pardue for her part is slightly meek and apologetic but insists that she stayed within the rules and won her match fair and square, which is all that really matters.

A fourth commercial break then brings us to our penultimate match, another season match, this one pitting Brittany Brown against Princess Delta Dawn. With their partners in their corner, Ashly Kennedy and Malia Hosaka respectively, this is a pure heel programme – the audience hate all of them and the match quickly becomes a question of who can come up with the best way to cheat.

The finish is a crisscross that ends with Brittany Brown getting crushed by Princess Delta Dawn when Malia Hosaka trips her up.

One final hype package for the main event then plays before we transition to the interviews. Brittany Brown is consoled by her partner, and they demand a rematch, eventually storming off. Where they stormed off to is revealed when they crash Princess Delta Dawn’s interview, and a war of words ensues. Staff are able to intervene before things get violent, but Malia Hosaka does manage to spit in the face of Brittany Brown before we cut to commercials.

Next up is the main event. Winona Little Heart makes a show being ready, despite her clash at the start of the show, and the heels are noticeably unnerved by this, especially the Nasty Girls who appear generally unhappy with their prospects and their teammate. Wendi Richter glances briefly at the camera, with a beaten expression.

The match does develop into a fun and fast-paced back and forth, however, with plenty of tags in and out and double team manoeuvres. The match looks like it could go either way and the finish seems to come out of nowhere.

With the champions celebrating in the background, we end on scenes of Wendi Richter confronting her partners and accusing them of various inadequacies before getting badly beaten down by the thoroughly unimpressed pairing.

These "Season Matches" sound interesting. i'll be curious to see them explained in full later. Congrats to Kennedy for being the first winner.

Medusa earns the right to call her shot & calls for a submission match! Luna''s gonna have to get crafty to win this one.

Pardue shows a hint of a mean streak to win her season match.

The Princess proves the superior cheater. 

Little Heart scores the pin in the main event to remain a double champ. But the real story may be Richter getting jumped by the Nasty Girls. Could Richter be about to turn over a new leaf?

Womens Trio Championship... I cant' say that I have seen too many women's six-person tag matches... you've got some good names to present it though.

 

I continue to be on the Medusa train... that didn't sound good... but she's my favorite right now of who you've got. Luna is right there with her ability to destroy anyone in her path.
