JJ sure has a lot on his plate with the world title situation and the annoyance of Blanchard. It appears he has solutions for both.

Luger vs Muta for the undisputed title is going to rock!

Wow! Somebody sure wants Sting out of action and the monsters are lining up to collect but then again, Sting has Robocop watching his back

Zenk has some serious contenders with Rotunda and Stud making challenges

If Spivey's pissed, Sherri better address this quick.

Adam Bomb debuts with a bang

The Road Warriors and Rockers will settle things once and for all but both teams should be looking out for Hart's men.

Pillman's really become a thorn for the Koloffs

No doubt about it, a lot is going to go down at Capitol Combat

Love all the angles going on here in WCW but I think my favorite is between Tully and Dillon.  I can't wait to see who comes in with Tully.

I thought the write up of the Z-Man vs Martel was well done and I liked how you carried it over between two shows.  I might have announced that was going to happen to increase the audience.

I am interested to see who you are going to put over between Pillman and Nikita.  Tough choice.

Abbie and Gang are going to cause havoc

World Championship Wrestling -

We see footage of JJ Dillon arriving to the arena today and he gets out of his towncar and he has got… none other than RICKY THE DRAGON STEAMBOAT WITH HIM! Steamboat goes over and shakes the hands of the crowd. The fans are going wild for this huge development!

Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura bring us in and put over a huge night of action. They can’t believe that Ricky Steamboat is here and wonder just what his plan is…. JR thinks he’s teaming up with JJ Dillon but Jesse says that he knows JJ too well and doesn’t think he will saddle with him. We’ll see how that shakes off.

Adam Bomb comes out and almost kills Lt. James Earl.

The Samoans are out here with Gary Hart and they hit a double superkick on some poor turd and he looks to have broken his jaw.

We get a good promo from the Rockers who put over their big challenge for the World Tag Team Titles at the Capital Combat. The Road Warriors come out and we get a face off… but then we find out that next week they are going to team up in an eight-man tag against The Samoans, One Man Gang, & Abdullah!

Nikita Koloff w/ Ivan gets a handicap match win. He holds up the US title and says he’s coming for Luger!

Tatanka w/ Wahoo gets a nice win… he continues to say he wants tocome back and challenge Nikita! We hear we’ll get a tag team match with the four of them next week!

Lex Luger comes out to a great ovation - he puts over the world title situation and says that even though Muta got his hand raised… he didn’t beat him. Luger says he has got one goal on his mind and that is to end Muta once and for all. He offers him to put up the International Championship as well and we unify both titles! Paul E comes out… with Chono and Sasuke… they threaten Luger but Lex says he isn’t scared of them… here comes Davey Boy and Owen…  oh my… Paul E has to back up…

Owen & Davey Boy with a good win after that issue… lines are being drawn in the sand here in WCW!

Savio Vega gets a win with his buddies outside the ring.

JJ Dillon comes out and he welcomes out his special guest… former WCW Champion, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat! Steamboat comes out and he works the fans but it doesn’t last long because out comes Tully Blanchard! Tully gets right in Steamboat’s face…

Tully: So you’re the big surprise huh? Well I am not surprised… to be honest Steamboat I am wondering how you can even show your face around here!? I mean… you are one of the most disgraced wrestlers in the history of WCW and you come out here to some fanfare like you’ve done something… you couldn’t event lace my boots! To be 100% honest with you… this makes me a little happy because I know you’re not here to wrestle me because your career would be over in a heartbeat if you were…

Steamboat: Well Tully… I don’t agree with very much of anything that comes out of your mouth… but you are right… I am not here to wrestle you… I am here to watch some of the great WCW action with guys like Lex Luger… Sting… Flyin Brian… the Z-Man… and others…  in fact… I am the one who called JJ to see if I could come to the show… he said I will be a special guest at Capital Combat…

Tully: Well who in the hell do you got to come out here then…

JJ Dillon: Turn around and look… up!

Tully turns around and OMG… HE’S 7 FEET 7 INCHES TALL! From Argentina… EL GIGANTE! We have heard about rumors of this man… Tully sells it like crazy as he bumps into Steamboat who turns him around and chops him a couple of times before throwing him into Gigante who throws one of the worst punches of all time and barely hits Tully but he sells it! The crowd is going wild for El Gigante and Steamboat who shake hands and work the fans!

We get Jesse and JR putting this over in the biggest way… El Gigante… 7’7”! Tully is going to have his hands full. They announce that next week we’ll see Tatanka and Wahoo taking on the Koloffs… the Road Warriors & Rockers take on Gary Hart’s Army… plus the final touches on the Capital Combat card… let’s take a look…. Luger vs Muta for the now UNIFIED World Title… Nikita defends the US title against Flyin Brian with Sting in his corner and Robocop will be here… the Tag Titles on the line when the Road Warriors defend against the Rockers… the Nasty Boys take on the Skyscrapers…  Davey Boy and Owen take on Chono & Sasuke… plus the Diamond Studd Scott Hall gets his shot at the TV Title… but is it going to be the Z-Man or Mike Rotundo… let’s find out!

TV Title - Zenk vs Rotundo w/ Sullivan ends up being a very mechanical contest… two men are good workers and get the crowd going. Zenk looks like he’s coming into his own but Rotundo and Sullivan have got their Varsity Club vibes running here. These two go around 12-minutes and give it everything they’ve got out there. The finish sees Rotundo try to finish… a couple of big shots and then he goes for a big fireman’s carry but Zenk with the roll through and the crucifix for the 3-count out of nowhere! Zenk retains the title and rolls out of the ring before Sullivan caan come in and try to get him… Johnny Ace is out there as “backup.” Zenk is still the champion but now it sounds like he’s got a Diamond Studd problem to deal with in the near future!

Great fake-out by JJ using the arrival of a major star like Ricky Steamboat to cover for the arrival of El Gigante.

Gary Hart looks to have his monsters make an impact on the Tag Title match at Capital Combat.

Next week's tag match makes for a great opportunity for Tatanka to get back in the US title picture.

Luger finds some quality backup against the Dangerous Alliance.

I'm sure Ventura was excited hearing the Diamond Stud is getting a TV title shot.

Steamboat arrives in WCW!

Good grief! Next week's 8 man is going to be insane!

Love the squash match descriptions. Funny and straight to the point.

JJ and Steamboat pull a swerve on Tully as El Gigante nails him with the worst punch ever LOL

Capitol Combat is really shaping up

Zenk's roll as TV champ continues with a nice win over Rotunda. However, the Diamond Stud is waiting

May 17th

Only caught the cliff notes version of World Championship Wrestling this week.

Tatanka & Wahoo McDaniel vs Ivan & Nikita Koloff was an okay match… Nikita was a monster… Ivan and Wahoo had some fun nostalgia work… but Wahoo ate a nasty Russian Sickle!

Diamond Studd had a nice win and put over his big TV title shot this week… he says the Z-Man is is going DOWN!

Ricky Steamboat with a promo about how he plans to be at Capital Combat and looks forward to all the action. He is going to keep a close eye on Paul E!

Paul E and Muta cut a promo on Lex Luger… the titles will be unified this week but in reality it will be Muta who will be the Undisputed World Champion!

Lex Luger cuts a promo on Muta and says he has great respect for his ability in the ring but says his weakest point is Paul E and Luger doesn’t care if he’s there or not… Luger will walk away with the World Title and be the champion!

Eight Man Tag - The Rockers & The Road Warriors vs Abdullah, One Man Gang, & The Samoans w/ Gary Hart was a good one… good to see the babyfaces on the same side of things… especially knowing they will be in the ring against one another in just a matter of days. The finish sees the chaos ensue with all the men… but then a double superkick on Samu is all she wrote…

WCW finishes with a promo from Sting… he puts over the big PPV… he says he’ll be there for Flyin Brian… he wants him to become the US Champion and he’ll be there for Luger… he wants him to walk away with the World Title… but then we see Zeus coming out… he’s got Gary Hart with him now… wait… here comes the Samoans… One Man Gang… Abdullah… Sting is being surrounded… will Robocop be able to help Sting this week at Captial Combat?

Capital Combat – Washington DC – Armory – Monday - May 19, 1990

Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura welcome everyone to the DC Armory here for WCW’s Capital Combat! All the hype is put on Luger vs Muta for the unified world title tonight… plus Sting is here and he’s got some help in Robocop! We’ll also see the Tag Titles on the line with the Road Warriors and the Rockers… plus a big one with the tv title on the line between the Diamond Studd and The Z-Man! How could we forget… the 7’7” El Gigante will be here tonight and he is going to have a word or two to say to Tully Blanchard on behalf of JJ Dillon! Let’s take it to the ring for our opening contest!

We get things kicked off with a hot tag team match… here comes Masa Chono and Kensuke Sasuke and they’ve got the big guy, Scott Norton in their corner. They’re opponents… Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart come out to a great ovation from the crowd. These two teams show up tonight and put on one helluva 12-minute opener. Owen and Davey are coming into their own as a tag team and it is said that the winner of this one could be in line for a contest with Power and Glory soon for the US tag Team Titles. Scott “Flash” Norton is getting involved in every turn and before long one has to wonder what Owen and Davey can do to combat him… well that is until Owen nails him with a spinning heel kick and sends him flying off the apron. Sasuke and Chono look like theyre going to finish off Davey but Owen off the top rope and all hell is breaking loose. Here comes Norton again but this time he is thwarted when Ricky the Dragon Steamboat shows up out of nowhere and nails a couple of huge chops. This time Owen comes off the top rope with a standing moonsault on Kensuke and gets the 3-count! Steamboat shakes hands with the boys and it looks like lines are being drawn in the sand here in WCW and Steamboat has picked his side!

We get a good promo from Paul E Dangerously, who’s in the back with Tony Schaivone… he says that Muta has prepared for this moment his entire life and tonight in front of the world he’s going to show why he is the one true world champion in wrestling! He then turns his attention to Ricky Steamboat who stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and he’s going to pay for messing with Muta’s friends and Paul E’s associates. Watch your back Rick Steamboat… watch it!

Our next contest is scheduled for one fall with a 15-minute time limit. We see the new and improved Mike Rotundo come out with Gamesmaster Kevin Sullivan. He takes on Johnny Ace - who stuck his nose in his business the other night - and it is a pretty blah match. Rotundo has got some good shtick as the Syracuse, Varsity Club guy… but Ace is the shits and it shows. Rotundo hits a nasty Olympic style slam on Ace… dropping him on his head… getting the 3-count!

The next contest is a television championship match and is scheduled for one fall - 15-minute time limit. Jesse Ventura is putting Scott Hall through the roof here and saying it is the Diamond Studd’s time and tonight is the night! The Z-Man comes out with a great ovation from the fans… we get a pretty good contest with these two… they could be cut from the same cloth in some regards but the Diamond Studd really does shine in the ring. The finish is pretty hot when Zenk goes for a flying cross body but Studd CATCHES HIM! Studd with a backbreaker but holds him and pulls him back up… FALL AWAY SLAM! Studd says the time is over now… he picks up Zenk and DIAMOND DEATH DROP! 1…..2…3… clean right in the middle of the ring and we’ve got a NEW WCW Television Champion!

For the next 4-minutes, all we hear is Jesse Ventura put over the new television champion - to the point where he goes to the back and joins in the celebration. Tony Schiavone comes out to call the next match…

The next match is scheduled for one fall and it will be under STREET FIGHT RULES! We see the Skyscrapers come out with Sherri sans Zeus. Here comes the Nasty Boys and by golly we’re in for a fight. This one isn’t pretty - it doesn’t last long… and well… I don’t know it just isn’t good. Knobbs and Sags are getting into their own a little…. Spivey looks top notch… Nash is trying to play his role… Sherri looks good though. Lots of punches and forearms… a good spot with Knobbs bumping out onto the floor due to a huge boot from Spivey off the apron. Nash attempts to pull a powerbomb on Sags but his knee looks to give out and it doesn’t look good. Spivey ends up with a powerbomb on Knobbs… pins him… Spivey and Sherri seem to have words and they leave Nash laying in the ring… are the Skyscrapers tumbling?

For whatever that last match was… well this doesn’t make it too much butter… here comes Tully Blanchard… sans wrestling gear… and JJ Dillon brings out the big man, El Gigante! The crowd is going wild for the big man and Tully doesn’t seem happy… he says he isn’t wrestling him… he is leaving but Gigante grabs him and throws him back into the ring! Here comes the One Man Gang and Gary Hart! Hart lets him loose and Gang gets in to attack Gigante… he hammers on his back and breaks him down… but El Gigante fights back… he throws some big right hands… ugly… but big right hands! Gigante “clotheslines” Gang out of the ring. Tully then with a couple of shots… but Gigante turns around and grabs him for a claw and puts him down! The crowd… well they don’t love it… but Gigante has got a little steam which is good.

The first of our big three title matches… the tag titles are on the line in a 60-minute time limit contest and what a build. These two teams have been at one another for months.  Tonight they go into the ring to settle the score. This one goes about 23-minutes and we get all the action. The Rockers with some slick speed and tag team maneuvers… the Road Warriors with double teaming and power personified. Ross and Jesse are on their game here tonight and they put this through the roof. In the final moments… we see the Road Warriors look to finish… Animal hoists up Shawn… Hawk goes to the top rope… Jannetty runs and dropkicks Hawk off the top rope to the floor! Animal can’t believe it… but then here comes Jannetty with a superkick on Animal and Shawn rolls through with a ugly but effective 1…2….3!!! THE ROCKERS HAVE WON THE WCW TAG TITLES! They have climbed to the top of the mountain! The fans explode as Marty and Shawn hold up the titles and they are once again the top tag team in the world. Hawk and Animal look on and don’t look happy but they nod their heads… show the respect… what a moment for the Rockers.

Our next contest - 30-minutes for the United States Championship and here comes Flyin Brian and he’s got his buddy, Sting with him for backup and support. Nikita comes out with Ivan and they work the crowd. This one goes about 18-minutes and Pillman keeps us on the brink the entire time. He flies around the ring. Nikita shows off the serious power and hits a couple of moves that look like they kill Pillman. Sting then starts to kick it in gear outside the ring and the crowd is behind him. Wait a moment… Ivan Koloff is shown signaling to the back… here comes Gary Hart with the Samoans… they bring out a cage? It’s a shark cage and inside is Zeus… they open up the door and Zeus goes towards Sting… they hammer him down from behind… they lock Sting in the cage… inside… Ivan Koloff helps Nikita and it is almost a 2 on 1 against Pillman… then we hear a siren and the lights flicker… OMG!

IT’S ROBOCOP! Robocop is here! Gary Hart… now in control of Zeus? And the Samoans are backing up and Robocop rips the back side off the cage and Sting is free. Zeus comes up to Robocop and swings but Robocop blocks it and then punches him in the chest and he goes backwards! Sting welcomes them on but Zeus is being held back!  They walk him into the shadows and this isn’t pretty! Robocop “chases” them to the back.

Sting is back over and cheering on Flyin Brian who is mounting the comeback of all comebacks… he nails some big shots and then looks to finish with something big… he is on the apron… he hoists himself up on the top rope and leaps but Nikita leaps at him with a Russian Sickle that just looks DISGUSTING! Pillman is down and OUT! 1….2…..3! Nikita retains the title… Pillman is a heap in the ring… Sting stands there… looking like Rocky over Apollo… Drago, I mean Nikita stands tall and tells Sting he’s next!

This all leads us to our main event… Mike McGuirk makes the announcements of the two champions… this is a no-time limit contest - no disqualifications - no count outs - there MUST BE A WINNER! This is news to everyone as Ross and Ventura are shocked but put it over in a huge way! We then see the entrances of the two men… Muta in white… looking as mysterious and spectacular as he can. Paul E is dressed to the dimes tonight and he works the fans into a frenzy. Luger comes out in lime green tights and he looks like he was chiseled out of stone.

WCW World Championship & International Championship Unification bout… LEx Luger versus The Great Muta w/ Paul E Dangerously. Luger brought his working boots tonight… 35-minutes these two put it all together. The paint is wiped away from Muta’s face when all is said and done. He goes to work on the neck and shoulders of Luger and tries tow ear him down. Luger works the back and both men leave it all in the ring. We get a couple of spectacular spots from Muta, one being a suicide dive through the ropes to the floor that sends Lex flying into the guardrail and busts him wide open! The referee continues to check Luger and this is a nasty cut.

Paul E continues to try and get involved but then the crowd explodes when STING and RICKY STEAMBOAT come out… once again… Steamboat grabs Paul E from behind and carts him off to the back. That spells the beginning of the end…or does it… Muta gets control and nails some seriously nasty kicks. Muta then runs for a shining wizard but Luger catches him and they go over the top rope to the floor but Muta’s back nails the apron! Sting is cheering on Luger and getting the crowd going for him! Muta is nursing the back… Luger picks him up for a bodyslam and he nails him against the ringpost! Muta’s back is a wreck right now and Luger is looking to finish…

Luger tosses Muta back in the ring and Lex is going for broke with some heavy shots… but out of nowhere… Muta with a nasty kick right to Luger’s jaw and he goes down like a box of rocks! Muta may have just knocked Luger out with that shot! The referee is watching as both men get up to their feet… Muta runs and hits another shining wizard and Luger goes back into the turnbuckle and crumbles down… Muta is now looking to finish… he goes to the ropes… he is setting up for the moonsault… he goes up but Luger is getting to his feet…  Muta leaps but LUGER CATCHES HIM! Luger hoists Muta up… and he’s got him in the TORTURE RACK! Muta’s back is a wreck! The crowd is going nuts… the referee watches and then Muta shakes his head! LUGER HAS WON IT! LUGER HAS WON IT!

Ross and Ventura put over Luger… regaining or retaining the WCW World Title… Ross gets word that it will go down as retaining but now he’s the UNDISPUTED WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! Sting is down there in the ring… he hands Luger the belt and the crowd is going wild! Ross and Ventura sign us off on this historic PPV… we’ll see you next week!

Steamboat certainly lived up to his promise to keep an eye on Paul E's affairs. He's gonna have to deal with the consequences now though.

Hart was quite active in the midcard, loaning out OMG to Tully an d picking up Zeus from Sherri.

Another crowning moment for the Rockers.

Hall fulfills Ventura's prophecy and captures the TV title.

Nikit'a grip on the US title is iron tight.

A very solid event in Captial Combat. I always liked that name for a PPV.

I enjoy the angles you have going. Everything intertwines and works together perfectly. I am enjoying seeing Owen get some shine in 1990 and the pairing with Bulldog helps make it work.

I think something that I am enjoyng that you are doing is calling stuff crap when it would be. Which is pretty much anything that El Gigante would be doing. I am digging that just for the simple fact that the stuff we write won't always be hits and calling a spade a spade is pretty cool to see. Cause even being a talent writer trying to get El Gigante over would be a task that is super hard to believe.

I didn't expect to see Robocop but you did it perfectly and I enjoy the figure you made of him. Maybe I should book Robocop to help Bob Armstrong with Ron Fuller but then again with my budget I can't afford that booking so it would be a direct to VHS rip off of Robocop. lol

Awesome show like always LowBlow!

Owen and Bulldog vs. Chono and Sasuke is one hell of a match to kick things off. Steamboat evens things up and makes Paul E's list.

I'm still behind Varsity Club Rotunda

Well, Diamond Stud definitely lived up to Ventura's hype as he decisively wins the TV title

Too bad the street fight didn't live up to expectations. I wonder what's next for Sherri and Spivey.

I liked how you called the El Gigante segment. It played out about as good as could be. Props to Tully. I'm sure this wasn't easy for him to do LOL

The Rockers finally get the best of the Road Warriors in a classic. This was one of my favorite programs and delivered an epic blow off.

WOW! Nikita, Pillman, Sting, Paul E, Samoans, Zeus, Gary Hart and Robocop! WCW 1990 at its best! I can't wait for the Nikita/Sting encounter!

After quite a night, Luger and Muta cap things off with an awesome match. Luger's finally the undisputed champion. Great job in setting up a Steamboat/Paul E feud. I'm curious to see who challenges Luger next.

You did a great job with Capital Combat and it was very much WCW at this time period.  This has nothing to do with you as you did a great job but when RoboCop plays a major role in a wrestling promotion it was time for me to tune out.  Both WCW and WWF went so far towards Sports Entertainment that I completely lost interest in real life around 1990.   I enjoyed the late 70's- 1984 when, even though I knew it wasn't real, I still that the heels and babyfaces hated each other.  To me, Vince and WCW tried to make it like a kid's birthday while the territories tried to make it seem like a backyard brawl at a neighborhood bbq.

Back to Capital Combat...

Score one for the little guys as the Rockers beat the Road Warriors.  They better watch out in the parking lot!

Like Steamboat in the mix here.  He could really do it all in the ring.

We're getting a proper Varsity Club reunion.

The Samoans get their shot.

Hype for the Great American Bash can officially begin. Though I think you meant Saturday the 14th.

Smart move putting Gigante in a six man.

Sting will be in the champs corner at the Clash.

Pillman's return could be something else for Nikita to keep an eye on.

WCW had better get ready to walk down Bad Street.

JJ and Tully are bringing out the brawlers and monsters for battle

Clash is really shaping up. Luger and Nikita have been on a collision course. Power and Glory vs. Owen and Bulldog could steal the show.

I can't wait until Sting gets in the ring again.

Looking forward to seeing how you book 90's Freebirds.

World Championship Wrestling starts off with a bang this week as the crowd hears some familiar music… time to take a walk down Bad Street USA! Out of the back walks… Diamond Dallas Page and he leads the Freebirds down to the ring! Jim Ross is standing by for this big promo… the Birds let everyone know they’ve been on a world tour and they have seen all the sights and sounds of every country known to man and they proclaim themselves the greatest rock n roll band of all time! DDP says they have signed an exclusive deal with WCW while they take a break from touring and they’re going to go back to their roots and it starts with beating down anyone in their path. DDP says they have got Platinum records on their walls and soon they’ll have gold around their waist… HAVE MERCY!

The Nasty Boys have a good tag team match and we hear them say the Freebirds are going to be clipped if they come to Nastyville!

Ricky Steamboat says he is doing to take Paul E Dangerously’s crew out one by one and he is going to have fun doing it.

Crush gets a good win… he continues to shine.

The One Man Gang comes out with Gary Hart and gets a win… Abdullah and the Samoans join them after… we hear Gary Hart put over the big tag team title match at the Clash this week… plus Tully comes out and talks about the six-man. He says that El Gigante isn’t even going to make it to the show if he has his way. Tonight the Samoans are going to work over JYD and Big Josh for good measure!

Z-Man gets a good win… he is then joined by Flyin Brian who comes back out and says he is feeling 100%! He says he is going to be there to back up The Z-Man against the Diamond Studd and he can’t wait to see Lex Luger finish off Nikita Koloff!

In a weird situation - Harley Race is shown in a suit… and he’s got a briefcase with him. He just keeps looking around… there’s a couple shots of him throughout the night.

Tatanka and Wahoo get a good tag team win… Wahoo looks rough Tatanka looks good

Paul E comes out with his crew… Muta, Chono, Sasuke, and Norton. They put over the Clash… Ricky Steamboat is going to be in trouble if Paul E has his way!

Davey and Owen get a win and they put over their tag title match… they say Power and Glory are going to be Herc and Jerk when they get finished with them!

Nikita Koloff w/ Ivan cut a promo on Lex Luger and put over the World title shot… Nikita says that he has been waiting too long for this title shot! He is going to destroy the Total Package and show why he is the true Russian Nightmare!

Diamond Studd with a good win… TV title looks great around his waist.

The Rockers cut a nice promo on the Samoans but then the Road Warriors come back out… they aren’t quite heels but they don’t see to be taking any shit from anyone. They let the Rockers know that their 15-minutes is done and the titles will go back where they belong soon. The Rockers say that’s all they need to do is put the contract on the table.

The Varsity Club is back and in full force… Sullivan is leading these men into battle and we see a nasty finisher… Spivey sets up the due for a Powerbomb but holds him up for Rotundo to come off the top rope with a clothesline and everything falls in one nasty way…

Lex Luger cuts a good promo on Nikita Koloff… Muta… and anyone else in his path. He says his destiny is paved in gold and he has got all his focus on keeping the World Title and defeating anyone in his path.

The Samoans defeated JYD and Big Josh with the help of Tully Blanchard… this brings out Abdullah and Gang… but then El Gigante comes out and evens the odds. Tully helps his men back off… we’ll see you at the Clash!

Clash of the Champions XI “Coastal Crush” – Charleston, SC – McAlister Fieldhouse – Friday - June 13, 1990

A fun cold open with JYD and Big Josh arguing with WCW officials… Tully, Gang, and Abdullah are there pointing out how El Gigante isn’t in the arena! Lots of officials and agents getting involved…

JR and Jesse bring us in for a fun night of action from the McAlister field house. A good set up for a big show here for WCW. We know that Sting will be here tonight for the World Title match. We will see the US and the World Tag Team Titles on the line… plus Ricky Steamboat returns to WCW and he’ll be in action… right now let’s go to the ring!

The Six-Man tag doesn’t go as planned… Big Josh and JYD are informed that El Gigante never made it to the arena… so it is going to be 2 on 2 as Abdullah and Gang team up. It is a decent enough match… they keep it quick for about 8-minutes. Tully gets involved, leading to Big Josh eating a nasty Avalanche from Gang and then the 3-count. Tully is celebrating as he walks back up the aisle but then El Gigante is there in his street clothes… it looks like his shirt has been torn… he grabs Tully and headbutts him to the joy of the crowd! JYD and Josh regroup with him as we cut away.

We’re back and Tony Schiavone is with Big Josh, JYD, and El Gigante… they make out that El Gigante was tricked by some folks and put into a dressing room and then he was jumped by Tully, Abdullah, and Gang… JYD says they want a rematch but this time… a real six-man… they’ll be at the Bash baby!

Crush with his Clash of the Champions showcase gets a nice win and has the crowd behind him… hopefully a better second half of 1990 for him on the way.

US Tag Team Championship match - Power and Glory take on Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart. This one is a good 15-minute contest… and these two teams take it to the limit. Roma does most of the heavy work with Hercules getting some nice shine here and there. Owen and Davey both work the fans and blend well together. This one ends up going to a 15-minute draw when the bell rings… both teams are being pulled apart… more on these four men in the future.

The Freebirds with DDP make their in ring return here to WCW and get a nice win. Hayes and Garvin are really going with the Rock N Roll theme… not the makeup and sequins but big hair none-the-less!

Television Championship - If the previous title match was split down the middle; this one is the opposite as Scott Hall just beats the living hell out of the Z-man. We see Hall lay the boots to him and Zenk can’t seem to get going by any stretch of the imagination. In an interesting finish… Scott Hall takes him outside the ring and delivers the Diamond Death Drop on the rampway! He walks back in the ring… gets the Count Out victory and holds the title up high in the air!

WCW World Tag Team Championship - The Rockers take on the Samoans w/ Gary Hart. This one is fast… only 10-minutes and the Samoans do get the upper hand early. Gary Hart is orchestrating everything outside the ring but Shawn and Marty have to battle back with a lot of fire… the crowd is solidly behind them as well. We get a fun moment when the Road Warriors come out and ship Gary Hart down the aisle… this distractions sets up Samu for a nasty double dropkick that sends him into the ropes and he’s tied up between the top and middle by his head. Fatu tries to help him but he ends up getting rocked with a double superkick and thent he 3-count!

We get a promo from Sting and Luger… they know what is at stake tonight and Luger seems to be dismissive of needing Sting in his corner. He says he can handle the Russians all by himself because he is the Total Package!

Ricky Steamboat makes his triumphant return to WCW and in ring action with a good showing and big win over Masa Chono w/ Paul E Dangerously. Steamboat is smooth and crisp and floats around the ring for Chono who sells like a million dollars. The finish sees Steamboat come off the top rope with a huge cross body and the 3-count! He is able to celebrate for a moment before Muta comes out of nowhere and Mysts him in the face! Steamboat is covered in green and Muta is stomping him down something awful! Here comes Flyin Brian, Owen Hart, and Davey Boy to the rescue…

We get another promo from the Rockers who say they appreciate the Road Warriors help but then when the Road Warriors come out… well it doesn’t seem as though they feel appreciated! They aren’t quite heels… but they let their intentions be known that they want the titles back and they are challenging the Rockers at the Great American Bash! The fans want to see the rubber match… more on this in our weekend broadcast!

In the main event of the Clash, Lex Luger defended the WCW World Championship against Nikita Koloff. Luger was accompanied by Sting… Koloff by his Uncle Ivan Koloff. The match was a good 18-minute contest and you could tell both men were pretty out of it by the end. JR and Jesse put it through the roof. Ivan tries to get involved but Sting is able to run him off only for Nikita to come out of nowhere with a Russian Sickle on Sting on the rampway! We then get Nikita beating down Luger before the Total Package fights his way back… the finish sees Nikita go for a Russian Sickle but Luger ducks and then catches him for a nasty powerslam and 3-count! Luger retains the title and the crowd goes mild… that is until Sting comes out and he chases off Nikita with the Russian Chain!

JR and Jesse are putting this through the roof… JR says he is going in the ring to interview the champion and Sting. JR asks Luger about who the next number one contender will be? Luger says he will defend against anyone. JR then talks to Sting and the crowd pops… Sting says that he has spoken to WCW officials and will officially be back at the Great American Bash on July the 14th from Baltimore! Ross makes a comment that perhaps Sting will be the one who gets his shot at the World title?! Luger shakes his head… Sting says he would love a chance to become world champion… Luger says he doesn’t want their friendship to get in the way… no wait a moment… Harley Race… Race is in the aisleway and he’s got that briefcase… Sting wants to know what he’s doing out here… Ross says we will see Sting at the Bash… perhaps for the WCW World Title… WAIT A MINUTE… LUGER CHOPS STING’S KNEE! OMG! Luger hit Sting’s knee with the World Title! What in the hell is going on here?!?! Flyin Brian runs out here and pushes Luger who pushes him away… Luger takes the world title up the rampway… Brian is checking on Sting… what did we just see?!?!
