The Diamond Stud sure is shining.

P&G get a cheap win over the legend.

Bulldog gets a chance to flex.

So you didn't know your partner for the night, who just happens to be a future challenger to your title, was being attacked eh Luger? Hmm.

Nash is a perfect fit for the Skyscrapers.

Garvin just came back too soon.

Rockers with a relatively easy night.

Muta puts down a game Z-man.

Pillman seriously steps up but it doesn't prevent Flair from fulfilling his promise to pin the World Champion.

A Road Warriors/Samoans banger is a great way to kick off the clash

With Jesse's help getting him over on the mic, I see big things ahead for the Diamond Stud

Damn, what a segment. The Horsemen's distraction allows Nikita to do a big number on Sting. The drama continues

Power and Glory retain. I do like Wahoo mentoring Tatanka

Bulldog gets in a nice showcase. I can see him in the title picture soon

Man, genius idea booking Nash as a skyscraper. Definitely a better start than IRL

Nice booking in the Garvin/Martel match. Keeps things hot

Rockers retain against the newly named SEC. I think the name fits their look. Maybe they just need a manager.

Z man looks great but Muta is amazing

Pillman gets his big moment. Nice twist with Luger taking the pin. It looks like him and Sting are going into WrestleWar a little banged up.

WCW Power Hour - 2/8

Gordon Solie & Paul E Dangerously bring us in with a highlight reel from the Clash. We get the announcement that Sting will not be able to compete in the WCW World Championship Match at WrestleWar. We will find out what will happen with that contest tonight on WCW! We also find out… at WrestleWar… the tag team titles… champions vs champions… Road Warriors take on the Rockers! They turn the tide to the US title gauntlet… we’ll have a new champion on Sunday night… but tonight we’ve got 4 huge matches… let’s go to the ring!

US Title Tournament

Nikita Koloff vs Sting was a no contest… Sting couldn’t compete… Pillman came out in his stead but was held back! It was announced that Nikita will have a match and a contender is going to be here this evening…

US Title Tournament

Abdullah the Butcher w/ Gary Hart defeated Kona Crush in an interesting contest. Abdullah doesn’t do much in the ring and Crush is able to sell for him and work in some offense. This ends up with a count-out victory after Abby pulls out the fork and jabs him in the throat. Crush is outside the ring before Gary Hart kicks him in the skull before the 10-count and Abdullah wins!

US Title Tournament

Tommy Rich defeated The Berzerker w/ Gary Hart via DQ. This wasn’t that great… Berzerker is nothing but a brawler and Tommy Rich gets the crowd involved but it just isn’t good. I am sure someone else could have been put in this spot.

US Title Tournament

Flyin Brian defeated Michael Rotundo in a hard fought 10-minute contest. Pillman has got a lot of fire. Rotundo does his best to keep things close. Pillman reverses a German suplex into a running crossbody for the 3-count! Pillman gets the win and he moves on!

JJ Dillon comes out and announces that due to Sting’s injury, they needed a replacement for the tournament and who better than former United States Champion…  Wahoo McDaniel!

US Title Tournament

Nikita Koloff defeated Wahoo McDaniel in a one-sided beatdown. Tatanka came out to try and help matters but it was thwarted by Ivan Koloff. In the end… Wahoo gets nailed with the Russian Sickle twice… clutches his throat and goes down… Nikita with the 3-count and he’s moving forward.  We’ll find out the finals coming up tonight on WCW!

World Championship Wrestling - 2/8

Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura welcome us in and put over the Clash. They talk about all the happenings and the big injury to Sting. Tonight… JJ Dillon will announce who will face Lex Luger. We also hear about the tag title confrontation between the Rockers and the Road Warriors at WrestleWar. We have two big matches announced for tonight… Brian Pillman vs Abdullah the Butcher and Nikita Koloff vs Tommy Rich… the winners of those matches will face off tomorrow night on the Main Event for the WCW United States Championship! We find out that Ron Garvin is out indefinitely… his injury has been deemed too serious to compete! We head to the ring for our matches…

Owen Hart & Davey Boy looks pretty good as a tag team. We hear mumors of them challenging for the US tag titles soon?!

The JYD and the Berzerker go to a no-contest… which brings out the Samoans and the Nasty Boys… the brawl is thwarted for the time-being. Just as JYD is looking to leave the arena area… the One Man Gang and Kevin Sullivan pop out of the back and attack him. He can’t catch a break!

The Road Warriors win a simple tag team showcase… they let us know that it isn’t about titles at WrestleWar… it is about respect and they’re going to beat it out of the Rockers!

We get the announcement we’ve been waiting for… JJ Dillon comes out and he addresses the crowd. Lex Luger comes out… with a limp of course… and he stands with Dillon as it is announced… at WrestleWar… Lex Luger will defend the WCW World Championship against… all of a sudden we see Paul E Dangerously walk out with Muta. They get into the ring and Paul E tries ripping a hole into Luger but JJ Dillon halts him… he tries to announce the challenger again but now we see Ric Flair come out with Arn and Ole! Flair and Muta are now face to face and you can feel the tension.  Dillon separates them… and he announces that… at WrestleWar… it will be Lex Luger defending the WCW title against… Ric Flair! Flair celebrates but Muta is pissed… Muta kicks Luger in the knee…. Flair turns him around and Muta with the MYST and Flair’s face is covered! Pure chaos!

US Title Tournament

Flyin Brian defeated Abdullah the Butcher via DQ. This was a wild one and ended when Abby pulled out the fork again… but Pillman dropkicked him out of the ring to the floor. Abby pushes the referee to the ground but then Pillman out of nowhere off the apron with a crossbody! The crowd is 100% behind him… can Pillman win the gold?

Kona Crush is out here and he gets a nice ovation from the crowd. The crushing move gets the crowd pumped.

The Hillbilly Hog Farmers win a tag match… still trying to figure those guys out.

The New Skyscrapers kill a couple of guys… it isn’t pretty but Sherri looks good.

The Diamond Studd beats the hell out of someone…  he’s got star written all over him according to Jesse Ventura!

We get another promo from Luger who puts over the match with Flair. He says that this is his destiny. People have called him a paper champion but come WrestleWar… it is one on one… the world title on the line… the defining moment in both men’s careers. There can only be one World Champion and you’re looking at this!

US Title Tournament

A good matchup between Tommy Rich and Nikita Koloff finishes up our broadcast this week. These are two pros… Rich sells… sells… and sells some more for Nikita who looks primed for something big. Ivan is out there causing hell and ends up tripping Rich… only for him to turn around and here comes Nikita with the RUSSIAN SICKLE! Rich crumbles down… Nikita covers for the 1…2…3! It is Pillman vs Koloff tomorrow night… oh man!

Just when you thought it was done… Flair is out here and he is covered in the green myst on the white shirt…. It’s stained and also his face and hair… it’s an image. Flair is on a roll saying that he is going to risk his entire career on this one match. He wants the World Title more than anything in this world. He is willing to put everything on the line and Luger is going to have to walk the aisle with the best damn wrestler in the world and the one true world champion!

WCW The Main Event - 2/9

Eric Bischoff & Bob Caudle pump up the Main Event and the US title on the line tonight… it will be Flyin Brian or Nikita Koloff who walks off with the WCW United States Championship. They put over Flair vs Luger at WrestleWar. They put over the Road Warriors vs the Rockers at WrestleWar. We will find out these matches that have been announced: Tommy Rich will challenge Rick Martel for the TV title, Davey Boy and Owen challenge the Power and Glory for the US Tag titles, Jushin Liger returns to the US to take on Muta for the International Championship, plus a special contest called BATTLEGROUND? More on that contest next week!

US Title Tournament Final

Flyin Brian vs Nikita Koloff w/ Ivan Koloff went 20-minutes and these two left it all in the ring. We saw Ivan Koloff try to get involved but Pillman nailed him with a baseball slide dropkick! Nikita sold just enough to keep it interesting but Pillman really went to another level. Nikita continued to push the limit and Pillman kept fighting. We get some chaos that ensues when the referee gets knocked out….Pillman goes to the top rope and hits a crossbody but the referee is down and no count. Pillman is irate… what the hell is this… Arn Anderson? Double A comes out and he’s on the apron before Pillman comes over and they are jawjacking and then Pillman with a huge right hand and Anderson goes flying… Pillman turns around and RUSSIAN SICKLE! Referee crawls over for the 1…2….3!!! Nikita Koloff is the NEW United States Champion… this is outrageous… Caudle and Bichoff put this through the roof… we’ll see more on this next week on the Power Hour!

Nikita with the US title is news enough but as Luger reminded us, the Russian Nightmare now just needs to say the word and he gets a world title shot.

Double A shows Pillman what happens when you get involved in Horsemen business.

I would have loved to hear the crowd react when Muta got Flair with the mist. Muta may not have gotten the world title match but he's got a classic lined up with Liger.

A match with Owen and Smith could make or break P&G's US tag title reign.

Intrigued by the BATTLEGROUND.

With Luger, Sting, Flair and Muta, the world title scene has been a lot of fun and chaos. It all comes down to Luger and Flair at WrestleWar.

Nikita overcomes a game Pillman to win the US title. As AD pointed out, this adds more intrigue to the world title since Nikita is the number one contender. Also loved the continuity with the Horsemen's issues with Pillman.

Another big match up will be the Road Warriors and Rockers. Who will reign supreme?

Smith and Owen vs. Power and Glory could be a show stealer but then again we've got Muta vs. Liger. Damn, WrestleWar is stacked!

We find out that this will be a match with two teams… and it’s going to be an all out war. We will find out more tonight on WCW.

In action on the Power Hour - Power and Glory along with Rick Martel win a nice six-man, We get a double dq with the Nasty Boys and the Samoans, Scott Hall dumps some turd on his head, the Skyscrapers show off their size and strength.

WCW Top 10

  1. Ric Flair
  2. The Great Muta - International Champion
  3. Nikita Koloff - US Champion
  4. Rick Martel - Television Champion
  5. Scott Hall
  6. Flyin Brian
  7. Davey Boy Smith
  8. Arn Anderson
  9. Tommy Rich
  10. Jushin Liger

In our main event, we see the JYD get a DQ win over the Berzerker… Abdullah comes out… Big Josh comes out… The Nasty Boys come out… the Samoans come out… here comes the One Man Gang and Sullivan… wait a second… here comes Crush and Johnny Ace… looks like this is something!

World Championship Wrestling - 2/15

Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura bring us in for World Championship Wrestling and run down the WrestleWar card… but then we find out about BattleGround… it is a 6 on 6 team battle royal. The ringside area will be caged off… two men start… one from each team… 3-minutes… then every 2 minutes… we get another person but it is at random! It could be 6 on 1 before another teammate comes in! Once all six-men are in the cage for a team… the goal is to escape the BattleGround. The first team to score a pinfall wins… anything goes!

The Rockers look good in tag team action tonight. We hear from the Road Warriors who put over this feud… they plan to Rock and Sock Shawn and Marty until they can’t bop no more!

We get a special video of Sting. It shows the attack from The Horsemen and Nikita and then a subsequent surgery to repair a torn patella tendon. Dr. James Andrews isn’t sure if Sting will be able to wrestle again but he says the surgery went perfect… he knows Sting is tougher than nails… we’ll see what happens!

The JYD with a good singles win… but here comes Sullivan and Gang. We find out that JYD is going to captain one team for BattleGround against a joint team of Sullivan and Gary Hart.

Nikita Koloff ripped someone’s head off. He and Ivan put over the US title and how he now holds the shot at the world title whenever he wants and Lex Luger or Ric Flair is going to be served notice… that is until Tatanka walks out with Wahoo. We get a nice little promo with Tatanka talking about being a true Native American and one who will hold that US title with respect and he’s going to beat it out of Nikita Koloff at WrestleWar!

We see a special video package of Jushin Liger who will be at WrestleWar to challenge the Great Muta for the International Championship.

The Samoans with Gary Hart bite some guys and crush them for fun. Gary puts over the BattleGround match at WrestleWar and he says the Nasty Boys are going to feel the power of his wild Samoans!

The Diamond Studd Scott Hall with a nice win tonight… he comes over and he and Jesse put over his look and his skills… they talk about how he has his eyes set on the Total Package and he can’t wait too much longer for his shot!

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson cut a scathing promo on Lex Luger, Brian Pillman, and Sting! Flair says this is the last chance for him… Jim Herd and the rest of them won’t let him get back what he wants the easy way so he’s going to do it the hard way and that means… just like Sting… Luger is going to end up in a hospital bed… right next to him!

The Skyscrapers came out with Sherri looking O’So’Fine. They beat the hell out of the State Patrol and Big Kevin Nash with a double powerbomb on Buddy Lee Parker is all she wrote. Sherri says her men are ready for WrestleWar and anyone who thinks they can challenge them!

We get a good promo from Lex Luger… he talks about being world champion and what that means. He and Flair are going to let everything hang out next week at WrestleWar. He knows that Nikita is waiting in the wings. He knows that Muta thinks he deserves a chance. Luger then points out how he should be facing Sting at WrestleWar and he wishes him nothing but the best… he wants him to recover and come back better than ever!

SIX-MAN TAG TEAM MAIN EVENT
Brian Pillman, Davey Boy Smith, & Owen Hart defeated Rick Martel and Power & Glory in a really fun six-man. Pillman hit Roma with a flying cross body when Hercules ducked out of the way but Roma was there to catch the blow. Hot end to the show and these guys all have STING bands around their arms!

So Battleground is a modified WarGames, well I will say I like the random drawing. That could be fun. Not hard to guess who fill out the Sullivan/Hart team.

Tatanka vs Nikita wasn't a match i'd thought about but is an exciting prospect.

Flair seems rather desperate going into WrestleWar and that's not good for anybody, least of all Luger.

Sorry for falling so far behind here.  Really enjoyed reading about the Clash.  You do an awesome job of putting everyone in the correct pecking order and then having the guys you want, continue to move up the ranks.

The Sting angle with Nikita coming out of the stands and helping the Horsemen to destroy him was great but got even better as we wondered what would happen to the main event with Sting and Luger to face the Horsemen.  Flying Brian was a great replacement as it allows us to see Pillman as a main event guy but in reality, it allowed everyone else to stay super strong and Pillman to take the fall.  Pillman also is not weakened as he is now looked upon as being on the top level.  Great job!

Also, awesome job with the tournament.  I like how you look at each match objectively.  You told us that Rich and the Berzerker wasn't very good because of the limitations of the Berzerker but then you said how great Tommy Rich was in his loss to Nikita.  Again, Nikita wins the tournament but because of AA, Pillman remains on the upward trajectory.  Really good.  I need help with this aspect of the game.

I like your show's formats. The description of the squash matches always crack me up.

Love the battleground concept. This will put a lot of shine on the mid card feuds

I see Scott Hall climbing the rankings

I agree with AD, Nikita and Tatanka could be a fun US title program

Get well soon Sting!

After a lot of drama and intrigue, it all comes down to Luger and Flair at WrestleWar. Bring it on!

World Championship Wrestling - 2/22

Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura spent the entire 90-minutes pumping up WrestleWar this week. We got a big announcement that STING WILL BE AT WRESTLEWAR for his first Interview and it will be with none other that JIM ROSS!

We saw Harley Race & Bob Orton in tag team action - The Skyscrapers beat the stuffing out of some turkeys -  Brian Pillman got a big win - The Z-Man had a good showing - The Rockers defeated the Power & Glory in a non-title match when Rick Martel got involved then leading to the Road Warriors coming out.

We got some big promos from Ric Flair who challenges for the title at WrestleWar... Paul E pumps Muta through the roof and says Liger is going to be a stepping stone... Nikita Koloff says he is going to tar and feather Tatanka... then Lex Luger finishes us off letting us know how excited he is for Sting to be in the building for WrestleWar and he wants him ringside to watch him beat Ric Flair and be the undisputed WCW Champion!

See you fans for WrestleWar 1990 - the Wild Thing!

Wrestle War 90: Wild Thing – Greensboro, NC – Coliseum – February 25, 1990

BATTLEGROUND!

The Junkyard Dog, Big Josh, Crush, Johnny Ace, & The Nasty Boys vs Abdullah, The Berzerker, Kevin Sullivan, The One Man Gang, & The Samoans w/ Gary Hart

Well needless to say…. This was kind of a fart in church. The entry of the wrestlers didn’t make much sense but did add a good bonus of drama… here was the order…

  1. Big Josh
  2. Kevin Sullivan
  3. Fatu
  4. Samu
  5. Crush
  6. Johnny Ace
  7. One Man Gang
  8. Berzerker
  9. Knobbs
  10. Abdullah
  11. Saggs
  12. JYD

We saw a lot of double-teaming and triple-teaming… Crush ended up being the star of the show… he nailed One Man Gang with a bodyslam! The finish saw Crush hit the head crushing chokeslam on Sullivan for the 3-count at the end! Lots of brawling… nothing really good here… maybe needed some more star power.

UNITED STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Davey Boy Smith & Owen Hart vs Power & Glory w/ Brother Love

A real showcase here as Davey and Owen are on fire from the outset. These guys go about 12-minutes. Power and Glory get some good heat on Owen… only for Davey to come in like a house of fire and really turn up the crowd. In the end… we see Owen with a spinning heel kick on Hercules and they go flying out of the ring. The referee is locked up with Brother Love when Hercules comes from behind Davey Boy and CRACKS HIM with the CHAIN! Roma then rolls him up with a handful of tights for the 3-count! Power and Glory get the win… they hold the titles up like they did something… Brother Love is just beside himself with happiness!

The Z-Man vs Scott Hall

Tom Zenk doing Tom Zenk things… putting over Scott Hall in a big way. The Diamond Studd is poised for something and tonight he makes the next step. He sells for Zenk enough to make it interesting and then hits the Diamond Death Drop for the 3-count! Hall is really letting the fans have it!

TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Tommy Rich vs Rick Martel © w/ Brother Love

Somebody say something about getting fired up for the television title?! Well Tommy Rich comes out like a house of fire and gives Rick Martel every single ounce of whoop ass he’s got! Brother Love… once again lets his presence be known… Just as Rich hits the Thesz Press… Brother Love pulls his leg. Love is smiling and working the crowd but then out of the crowd… OMG! It is RON GARVIN! Garvin jumps over the rail and NAILS BROTHER LOVE! Garvin jumps in the ring and he tackles Martel! The referee has to ring the bell. Rich is trying to pull Garvin off of Martel…  Garvin is insane right now… Martel wins via DQ… title stays where it is!

The Hog Farmers vs The Skyscrapers w/ Sherri

As you would suspect…. Spivey and Nash beat the hell out of these guys. A double powerbomb on Henry is all she wrote. The Skyscrapers look completely dominant! Sherri is looking o so fine as well!

INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Jushin Thunder Liger vs The Great Muta © w/ Paul E Dangerously

This one needed some more build up. These two go toe to toe for 20-minutes and it may be one of the best matches in the USA in 1990… but there’s no big story. Muta hits the myst but Liger has the mask on… it's a cool visual. These two fly around for a while… slow down and try to work different body parts…  in the end we see Liger come off the top rope with a standing moonsault but Muta catches him and then turns it around for a TOMBSTONE out of nowhere! 1…2…..3!!! Muta keeps the International Championship… we hear Paul E yelling for Luger…. These two have got to be on the track towards one another… or will it be Flair… we’ll know in about 90 minutes.

In a very special segment… we see the return of Jim Ross to World Championship Wrestling! The crowd is soldily behind him. We then hear him set up… the return of STING! Sting comes out on crutches and they do a great promo in the ring. They put over the surgery and the big showdown for Luger and Flair tonight. Sting says that this will truly be the test of both men… he knows Luger is a true champion and he will show it tonight. Flair is the champion of champions but tonight he is the challenger and one has to wonder if he will get the title back and be the champion everyone knows he is! Sting says he is hoping to get back in the ring soon…. He will do whatever it takes to get back here for the fans!

Jim Ross then joins Jesse Ventura on commentary while Tony Schiavone heads to the back…

Flyin Brian vs Arn Anderson

Arn and Flyin Brian get it going right away! They hit one another right in the chops in the damn aisleway! This one is nothing but a fight and the fans are just loving every minute of it! Brian has got the Sting arm band on and the crowd is 100% behind him! Arn Anderson gives him everything he’s got and even hits a gordbuster outside the ring that looks awful. Flying Brian has to fight his way back… he works his way back into control… then Pillman off the top rope with AIR PILLMAN for the 1…2….3! Anderson can’t believe it! Flyin Brian with the biggest win of his career and my oh my Jim Ross is going nuts!

TAG CHAMPIONSHIP UNIFICATION
The Rockers (NWA) vs The Road Warriors (WCW)

This is one a lot of people have been waiting for… two of the top teams in the world of professional wrestling and they go toe to toe for 24-minutes. The longer the match goes… you see the Road Warriors tag more often and the Rockers seem to get stronger! The Warriors control the early pace but the Rockers have made a pretty big comeback and Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are putting this through the roof. We see the Road Warriors take control… they get some serious heat on Marty Jannetty… he looks like he’s about to die but then he makes the big tag to Shawn Michaels who comes in with the passion of 1,000 fires as he is rocking and rolling all over the ring. He knocks both of the Warriors out of the ring… and then out of nowhere… he dives over the top rope and attacks both men! All three men are fighting… then we see Jannetty run and he jumps through the ropes and takes everyone out! Pure chaos at ringside as we get back in the ring. We see Shawn tag Jannetty… Animal tag Hawk. Then we see a segment… let me try to explain… Animal hoists up Jannetty… Hawk readies for the Doomsday Device… Jannetty is the now the legal man… as is Hawk…  Hawk Flies off the top rope with the clothesline and destroys Jannetty… but out of nowhere… Shawn comes with a superkick on Animal that knocks him SMACK DAB OUT! Michaels covers Animal…. Hawk covers Jannetty… it looks like simultaneous 1….2…..3! Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are trying to explain what is going on… we then cut to Mike McGuirk who has the official word….

Mike: Ladies and gentlemen… after speaking with the referee…. the winners and UNIFIED TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS… HAWK AND ANIMAL… THE ROAD WARRIORS!

Not a very popular outcome with at least 60% of the crowd who were behind the Rockers but the Road Warriors hoist up the gold and they shake hands… what a war… we have unified tag team champions… for the time being… but the Rockers will be due a rematch sooner than later me thinks!

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP

Tatanka w/ Wahoo vs Nikita Koloff © w/ Ivan Koloff

The Russian Nightmare is 100% business tonight. He handles the oncoming fight from Tatanka with ease….but don’t discount Tatanka… he brings everything he’s got. Tatanka gets an explosion of offense and even has the Russian reeling… a flying Tomahawk Chop knocks Nikita out of the ring to the floor! Ivan has to get him under control before Nikita comes back in… and rips him apart. We get 3 Russian Sickles and Tatanka is down… but Nikita is going to set him up for another one before Wahoo McDaniel “jumps” into the ring to stop him! Wahoo is telling the referee to call the match… Nikita smiles and then he nails Wahoo with the Russian Sickle! He nailed him from behind and hit the back of his neck! The referee calls for the bell as Tatanka isn’t responding to the count… officials and agents run down to try and help him out… Nikita is still the US champion and perhaps the one to lay claim to the number one contender spot here in WCW

What could be considered the final showdown… these two men walk out with the most pomp and circumstance. Flair… by himself… Luger… by himself… two men and one title on the line.

WCW Championship

Lex Luger © vs Ric Flair
Lex and Flair know one another so well and they go right into the series here tonight. We start with Flair being the chickenshit heel… Luger showing off his power. This leads to Flair cheating to get the edge and then starting to work over the knee. Luger fights his way back and attempts some big power moves until Flair counters and goes to the knee one more time. Luger is really starting to sell it now. Flair is softening him up for the Figure-Four-Leg Lock but Luger isn’t giving up without a fight. The Total Package fights back again and this time he even gets the upperhand to put Flair up in the rack but his knee gives out! Luger collapsed right in the middle of the ring! Jim Ross has really gotten into his groove with this one and adds that extra layer to the match and he points out how Luger is fighting on one leg! Flair goes right to work and man he is a man with a vengeance. He breaks that knee down and then he locks in the figure-four and Luger is writhing in pain! Sting comes down… knee in a brace… he is getting the crowd going for Luger! The fans start to chant and cheer for him and Luger turns the figure-four over and takes control. Flair has to let go and now Luger seems impervious to pain! Luger throws Flair to the ropes and then picks him up for a press slam and the knee is holding! Luger then with one clothesline… another… and then a POWERSLAM! Luger makes the sign for the rack! Here comes Flair and Luger hoists him up in the RACK! Arn Anderson tries to come down to the ring and Sting NAILS him with a crutch! JR is putting over Flair’s previous broken back! JR is going up and down… up and down… up and down… FLAIR HAS TO GIVE IT UP! LUGER HAS WON IT!

The fans are going wild! Luger has won it! Sting gets in the ring and hugs him and hands him the title! Luger and Sting celebrate! Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura put this through the roof!

Battleground seems to have been cooler in concept then in execution.

Herc's chain saves the titles for P&G.

Hall is looking like 24k.

Garvin makes his return and hasn't forgotten what Martel did to him.

Skysracpers stick a couple of pigs.

What a finish to the Muta/Liger match. Muta has got to get that world title shot now.

Pillman with a star making win.

The Roadie's secure both sets of belts but the crowd's reaction is interesting.

Tatanka has his moments but Nikita is on a rampage.

Even on crutches, Sting shows up to help his friend. Luger legitimizes his reign by beating, and therefore becoming, the man.

Liked the description of Battleground. Sometimes these types of matches are better on paper, but hey, it gave these guys something to do

Owen and Bulldog give it their all but the heels heel it up to retain. I liked this match up

Hall's getting the superstar push

Rich was fired up but damn, so was Garvin. I'm loving this feud

Sherri has her Skyscrapers looking unbeatable

Muta and Liger might've stole the show. Muta retains and has eyes on the world title

Pillman upsets Arn. This win will catapult Pillman in a big way

Wow, I thought Muta and Liger stole the show but I think the Rockers and RW's upstaged them. It seems the Rockers are the fan favorites here after that decision. Bring on the rematch

Watch out WCW, Nikita's on the rampage!

Luger finally gets his solidifying world title moment. Sting proves he's a great friend as Luger finally gets the best of Flair.

World Championship Wrestling - 3/1

Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura welcome us in for a new era of World Championship Wrestling. We get a couple of big segments but nothing of huge note.

WCW Top 10

Lex Luger - WCW Champion

  1. The Great Muta - International Champion
  2. Nikita Koloff - US Champion
  3. Rick Martel - Television Champion
  4. Flyin Brian
  5. Davey Boy Smith
  6. Scott Hall
  7. Tommy Rich
  8. Owen Hart
  9. One Man Gang
  10. Tatanka

We get a special segment with JJ Dillon talking about the status of Ric Flair who has left WCW… but then we see Tully Blanchard come out of the back… he and JJ go off on one another… sounds something like…

Tully: You thought you created the Horsemen JJ… and now you think you can kill the Horsemen… well maybe the Horsemen are dead and gone but I am still here! You sent me away so you could pull the strings but brother I am right here and I know that no one is willing to stand next to you. I’ve seen you JJ… I’ve seen you with the blood on your face… the knucks in your pocket… hell half the guys in the back can’t trust you or have been double-crossed by you… and I know better than all of them! So JJ… I am telling you right now…  I am making it my mission in 1990 - I am going to ruin you… and if I ruin WCW in the meantime then by golly… the walls will come crumbling down!

Lex Luger cut a nice promo thanking Sting… we find out that he’ll be here on the show next week… the promo is cut short by Paul E who says that it is now time for Luger to accept the challenge… the Great Muta has put it all on the line and Luger has to accept but as soon as he’s about to sign… out comes Nikita Koloff and Ivan Koloff! They are jumping down the throat of the champion now and Nikita says he is challenging Luger… he’s the number one contender… Ross asks if he’s turning in the title but Ivan says no… he says that Nikita is next in line… chaos ensues… Muta mysts Nikita…. Nikita sickles Luger…. All hell breaks loose.

The Road Warriors defend the newly minted WCW Tag Team Championships against team of Abdullah and the Berzerker… it was a shit show.

Other things of note… Ron Garvin cut Rick Martel in half and has challenged him to a street fight! Flyin Brian says that he has his sights set on the title and avenging Sting! Owen and Davey talk about how the Power and Glory were nothing but Lucky and they’ve got the Hart to come back and get those titles!

WCW Power Hour - 3/8

Tony Schiavone & Paul E Dangerously

Power Hour is primed and ready to go this morning and Paul E and Tony are a great pairing. WCW seems to be all about some fresh young talent right now and we get a view of some of them right now…

The Samoans, Tatanka, Owen Hart, Savio Vega, Jushin Liger are all in action.

We get the WCW Top 10…

Lex Luger - WCW Champion

  1. Great Muta - International Champion
  2. Nikita Koloff - US Champion
  3. Rick Martel - TV Champion
  4. Flyin Brian
  5. Davey Boy Smith
  6. Scott Hall
  7. One Man Gang
  8. Owen Hart
  9. Tommy Rich
  10. Junkyard Dog

In our main event… Davey Boy Smith defeated Hercules in a hard fought battle of the strong guys. Paul Roma got involved and so did Owen Hart… but then when Rick Martel came out, Ron Garvin thwarted him and all hell broke loose.

Garvin cut a masterful promo when he call Martel a paper champion with a glass jaw… and his hands of stone are going to break that glass jaw and turn that paper title back into gold when it comes around his waist!

World Championship Wrestling - 3/8

Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura

A big time Saturday Night show here… we find out that Sting will be here tonight… plus we’ll see Muta in action… Nikita in action… and a main event with Rick Martel defending the Television Championship against Owen Hart!

Harley Race & Bob Orton beat up some local young dudes.

The Great Muta is on fire tonight and he looks like a million dollars.

The Skyscrapers rule the world… the highlight is seeing the helicopter throw from Nash… such a great visual.

Tatanka fights back… he looks great.

Big promo from JJ Dillon who says that he has no quorum with Tully Blanchard… but it doesn’t take long for Tully to come out and he talks about challenging JJ Dillon to a fight… JJ says that Tully knows damn well he can’t get in that ring ever again… Tully says he better put up… shut up… or get out because he’s running him out of WCW one way or another!

Abdullah the Butcher cuts up some poor dudes skull.

Nikita Koloff hits a Russian Sickle on some poor schmuck and he doesn’t get up!

The Z-Man flies off the top rope with a dropkick that electrifies the crowd.

The Nasty Boys… well they are nasty and pretty dangerous in the ring.

Another big promo… Sting comes out on crutches with Lex Luger. They put over the big World Title situation… Luger says that he knows Sting will always be in his corner… Sting says he is training hard and he is doing everything he can to come back… he hopes to be back for the Great American Bash in July… this brings out Nikita who is looking like he’s going to attack Sting… but then Muta comes out… Paul E runs his mouth…  Muta mysts Sting… Luger violently pushes Sting out of the way and takes a Russian Sickle… Muta and Nikita then stare each other down… Sting needs help to the back!

Scott Hall with a nasty Diamond Death Drop on a young Marc Merrow… sells like a champ… Hall comes over and he and Jesse work the crowd.

Main Event time… Owen and Martel go 15-minutes and Martel pulls out a handful of tights roll up. Technical masterpiece… Martel makes Owen look amazing tonight… Brother Love and his boys are out there but Ron Garvin and Davey Boy even the odds… we find out they will be in a six-man next week! See you then!

One thing I like about this format is how you can organically give an angle multiple segments to build. Case in point, how much you did to build up the six man next week between Garvin, Hart & Smith vs Love's trio.

JJ may have to bring in someone to deal with Tully.

Nikita & Muta jockeying for the World title shot is great TV.

I love all the storylines going on in WCW. Tully and JJ. The world title picture with Luger, Nikita, Muta and even on crutches, Sting. Then there's the awesome mid card feuds going on like Martel and Garvin.

I can't wait to see how all this unfolds.

You're also doing a great job building stars like Hall, Pillman, Owen, Tatanka and Nash.

Not to mention the vets like Race, Orton, JYD and Rich still in the mix.

Something for everyone in WCW

World Championship Wrestling - 3/15

Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura welcome us in to World Championship Wrestling this week and we’ve got a huge night… six-man tag team action is coming our way with Ron Garvin, Owen Hart, & Davey Boy Smith taking on Rick Martel along with Power/Glory. Plus, we’ll hear from Lex Luger on the challenges from Nikita and Muta… and Tully Blanchard says he’s here to confront James J Dillon… what a night… fans let’s head to the ring!

The Road Warriors piss pound two jabronis and drop one of them on their heads.

Scott Hall hits the Diamond Death Drop on some dude who then has to get carted out.

Flyin Brian looks like a rocketman as he flies from all over the ring to take out his foe.

We get our first major issue as Tully Blanchard comes out and he is running down JJ Dillon something awful… we find out that JJ is in the back and he is with Ron Garvin… he is informing Garvin that he can’t wrestle tonight because of the injury and he won’t sign off on the match! Owen and Davey Boy say they’ll find someone to sub in… looks like it will be the Z-Man. This turns when Tully then confront JJ backstage and we get a heated argument about how JJ never cared for the Horsemen… never cared for Tully… he only cares about his lil brat kids at home and that pulls JJ right into Tully’s face and now we’ve got security breaking them up… Tully walks off with a smirk….

Big Josh and Tommy Rich defeat the State Patrol in a well match…

Mike Rotundo comes out - Rocking his Syracuse singlet again... this guy can't catch a break.

Abdullah the Butcher has got Gary Hart in his corner as he forks the hell out of some kid… didn’t expect juice on TBS tonight!

Lex Luger then comes out and he says he challenges Nikita and Muta… Luger isn’t afraid of either man and he says he’ll take them both on at the same time… but Paul E and Uncle Ivan say they want to make him really feel some pain… so maybe Sting will be his partner… that lights up the crowd but everyone knows Sting can’t wrestle right now… Muta and Nikita then draw near only for Flyin Brian to say he’s going to partner up with Luger… he and Luger shake hands… we find out that this big tag team match is going to take place next week right here on WCW… plus Sting will be here! WOWZA!

Kona Crush comes out and defeats Bill Irwin… Crush is an interesting project here in WCW right now… he’s got the look… he has got some skills… how will he fare?

Main Event - Six-Man Tag… Rick Martel and Power/Glory w/ Brother Love vs Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, & Z-Man (subbing for Garvin) ends up being quite the mash-up. Davey Boy and Owen are in prime spots to be big stars in the future… Tom Zenk plays his role well… he knows he isn’t at the top but he likes to get close and does a good job. Martel looks awesome here… physically and technically… Roma and Hercules do good… the finish is HOT… Martel counters a Z-Man top rope drop kick into a Boston Crab for the submission but while he holds on… Ron Garvin pushes his way through security and comes out to attack him and Martel and Garvin are going at it! These guys are rolling all over the ring… security comes out and some other wrestlers…  Martel swipes at him some more… Garvin says he wants him anytime anywhere!

WCW Power Hour - 3/22

Tony Schiavone & Paul E Dangerously

The Sting parade starts on Power Hour this week and he comes out to a huge ovation… he looks to be walking with a noticeable limp and the crutches still… but he’s got 100% of the fans behind him…  he starts putting over Lex as champion and then talks about Flyin Brian being his buddy and stepping in for him… but then we see Kevin Sullivan come out and he’s got the One Man Gang with him… they are crowding Sting up and saying that this is their chance to make their MAAAARK on WCW when they take him out for good… but here comes the JYD for the save… Sting says this is a guy who will stand in for him and when he comes back the One Man Gang will be right at the top of the list of people for him to take out!

World Championship Wrestling - 3/22

Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura open us up and by golly here comes Sting! He’s out here early and he tells everyone that he’s pumped for the Main Event… he’s here to see all the stars tonight and he’s got eyes in the back of his head for anyone lurking around the corner!

Power & Glory w/ Brother Love put forth a good effort tonight… we have Rick Martel out here with him and all the gold drip is looking good for Brother Love’s crew. They run down Ron Garvin in a big way… leading to Garvin coming out… he says that he’s going to be in the Omni on April the 14th...… and April 14th he’ll be cleared to wrestle… and he doesn’t want to wrestle… he wants a fight… with Rick Martel! A lights out… Georgia Brawl… first man who can’t reach the 10-count loses… no titles… no rules… just a fight! Martel and his crew are laughing… they accept… and as soon as they do… Garvin smiles and walks off!

We get a couple of good showcase matches from the Diamond Studd… the Skyscrapers… and then Big Josh who all look good tonight.

Sting makes an appearance and the crowd is going wild! He talks about his rehab and how he hopes to be back in the ring before too long… he is here tonight to watch his buddies Lex Luger and Flyin Brian beat the hell out of Muta and Koloff and he’s going to be right there to watch it all go down!

A couple more squashes… Mike Rotundo is out in the Syracuse Orange… we see The Road Warriors kill two guys… Kona Crush is out and he looks to be in great shape…

We get a special video… nothing of much substance… but just an atomic bomb exploding.

The last segment before our main event shows Gary Hart with his crew… Abdullah the Butcher and the Samoans… he says they have their eyes on Sting and if it just so happens that taking him out for good puts them on top of WCW… well then… so be it!

MAIN EVENT
Lex Luger & Flyin Brian vs The Great Muta & Nikita Koloff is a really great television match… all four men get involved… Luger is protected… Pillman does all the work and sells his ass off… Muta looks to be on the next tier while Nikita plays the monster better than many others! In the end… we see a miscommunication with Luger and Pillman… this leads to Luger goes down on the floor while Pillman is double teamed… Sting comes out to try and help Luger but inside the ring… Pillman gets nailed with a Russian Sickle… to the back of the neck and he goes down for the 3-count!

Just as Muta and Nikita look to finish off Pillman… Sting looks like he’s going to get in the ring as Ivan and Paul E are going wild outside the ring… then Luger makes the big comeback and breaks up the action. They check on Pillman who then gets up and he’s got an attitude with Luger!?! Sting is playing peacekeeper… what is going on here?

Sting's on the comeback trail but it looks like Gary Hart and his goons want to spoil it.

Luger has his plate full with both Muta and Koloff. Good thing he has a friend in Pillman.

Garvin and Martel is one of my favorite feuds in the game right now. Can't wait for the lights out match

It looks like Rotunda needs some guidance.

Pillman gets in Luger's face as Sting plays peacemaker. Things are getting more interesting.
