spaldoni Posted Sunday at 12:07 AM Posted Sunday at 12:07 AM I agree with Bischoff, the Bash is one of the most loaded cards ever It's been a great build. Today's show proved that. Every match means something. So much heat. Along with all the grudge matches, we get to see Taker's eerie build continue and Vader's debut. I also think Tenryu and Bulldog might be the sleeper match. Bring on the Bash!
LowBlowPodcast Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago World Championship Wrestling Weekend of July 18, 1991 Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan welcome fans to another edition of World Championship Wrestling. Ross reminds everyone that next Sunday night the Great American Bash comes to Baltimore, Maryland, with every major championship on the line. Heenan says all the talking is almost over. In one week, careers will change forever. Ross also promises fans another edition of the Great American Bash Control Center, plus Sting, Lex Luger, the Dangerous Alliance, and what Alexandra York has called "the next evolution of York International." Davey Boy Smith vs. Brian Andrews Davey Boy Smith receives a tremendous ovation as he powers through another impressive victory. Andrews shows flashes of offense early, but Davey quickly takes over with a series of clotheslines before planting him with the Running Powerslam for the three-count. Tony Schiavone enters the ring for an interview. Before Davey can answer the first question, Alexandra York's music interrupts. York slowly walks onto the stage with Genichiro Tenryu beside her. York says everyone has spent weeks wondering what York International really is. Tonight... they get their answer. She introduces the first man. "The protector of York International..." Mr. Saito walks onto the stage. Ross immediately recognizes the legendary powerhouse as one of the toughest men ever to come out of Japan. York smiles. "But champions aren't enough." "The future belongs to the next generation." Out walks Hiro Hase. The crowd buzzes. York pauses one final time. "And finally... the future of Japanese wrestling." Masahiro Chono. The arena erupts. York now stands with Tenryu, Saito, Hase and Chono. Without warning, all four men storm the ring. Davey Boy fights desperately but the numbers are overwhelming. Tenryu lands stiff strikes. Saito hammers Davey with forearms. Hase and Chono work together with precision before holding Davey in place for Tenryu's devastating powerbomb. Ross shouts that this has become a four-on-one assault. Finally Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart sprint from the back carrying chairs. York International calmly retreats. York never loses her smile. She now has her ace... her enforcer... and perhaps one of the finest tag teams in professional wrestling. Special Vignette A bright red sports car slides into view. Out steps Johnny B. Badd. He smiles into the camera. "People notice the looks... but they'll remember the fists." Ron Simmons vs. Steve Dixon Ron Simmons wrestles with intensity from the opening bell, overwhelming Dixon before planting him with the Spinebuster for another decisive victory. Eric Bischoff catches up with Teddy Long and Butch Reed afterward. Teddy says Simmons still doesn't understand. Doom was built around Butch Reed. Not Ron Simmons. Reed says next Sunday the talking finally ends. Simmons simply nods from the ring. "Good. I'm tired of talking." Jim Ross welcomes fans to this week's edition of the... Great American Bash Control Center Eric Bischoff stands before the Great American Bash logo and runs down the complete card one final time. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Mike Justice Diamond Dallas Page continues building confidence, using his athleticism and confidence to wear down Justice before finishing him with the Diamond Cutter. As DDP celebrates... the arena lights suddenly flicker. Once. Twice. Three times. When the lights return, the ring is empty except for Page. He slowly looks around. Nothing. Paul Bearer's voice echoes faintly through the arena. "Your time... is running out." DDP quickly leaves the ring while Ross says Undertaker may already be playing mind games. Lex Luger vs. Mr. Hughes Mr. Hughes gives Luger another physical contest, but the former World Champion steadily takes control before locking in the Human Torture Rack. Hughes submits almost immediately. Luger refuses to release the hold until officials pull him away. Tony Schiavone asks if Sid Vicious has pushed him too far. Luger stares directly into the camera. "Sid... I'm not putting you on a stretcher. I'm putting you down." Special Vignette Inside a training facility, Marcus Alexander Bagwell pushes himself through endless conditioning drills. The narrator says one of Georgia's brightest young athletes is preparing to make his arrival in WCW. WCW United States Tag Team Championship Arn Anderson & Larry Zbyszko (c) vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express The champions and challengers deliver an outstanding tag team contest, with Morton and Gibson repeatedly pushing Arn and Larry to the limit. Late in the match Jimmy Garvin suddenly appears at ringside. Robert Gibson gives chase. Michael Hayes blindsides Morton with a right hand behind the referee's back. Arn immediately capitalizes with the Spinebuster. Larry scores the three-count. Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko retain the United States Tag Team Championship. The Dangerous Alliance barely has time to celebrate. Ricky Steamboat and The Great Muta explode from the dressing room. Steamboat tackles Arn. Muta unloads stiff kicks on Larry. The arena erupts as officials pour from the back to separate both teams. Ross shouts that Baltimore cannot get here fast enough. Special Vignette Smoke rolls across the screen. Electric guitars begin playing. Van Hammer steps into view. "It's time... to rock... and roll." Sid Vicious vs. Kevin Brooks Sid completely destroys Brooks, ending the match with two vicious Powerbombs. The stretcher is rolled into the ring. Medical personnel begin loading Brooks onto it. Sid suddenly charges forward, driving the stretcher directly into the steel ring steps. Brooks crashes violently onto the floor. Ross can barely contain his disgust. Heenan simply says the Stretcher Tour rolls on. Six-Man Tag Team Match Scott Hall, Curt Hennig & Rick Rude vs. Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat & Flyin Brian The main event is fast-paced from the opening bell, with all six men trading momentum throughout. Steamboat and Rude reignite their rivalry. Hall and Pillman exchange breathtaking athletic counters. Hennig and Dustin battle with intensity every time they're in the ring. Late in the contest Hall catches Dustin with the Razor's Edge while Hennig cuts Pillman off from making the save. One... Two... Three. The Dangerous Alliance stand tall. After the bell Paul E Dangerously raises Curt Hennig's hand before leading Hall, Rude and Hennig toward the back. The cameras follow them. Instead of leaving the arena... they walk directly to Jesse Ventura's office. This time Paul E isn't alone. Curt Hennig follows closely behind, carrying the United States Championship over his shoulder. Paul knocks. The door opens. The three men step inside. The door quietly closes. Jim Ross wonders what business they could possibly have with the Executive Committee just days before the Great American Bash. Special Feature A dark warehouse fills the screen. Heavy breathing echoes. The silhouette of a massive masked man destroys opponent after opponent. The final image freezes on his face. BIG VAN VADER COMING TO THE GREAT AMERICAN BASH Jim Ross welcomes WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting to the interview platform. Sting says Curt Hennig has carried himself like the greatest wrestler alive. Next Sunday he'll finally have the chance to prove it. Sting says he's beaten Scott Hall. He's beaten every challenge placed before him. Now Curt Hennig stands between him and the future. "I respect Curt Hennig. But respect isn't going to save him. At the Great American Bash... I'm walking out the WCW World Heavyweight Champion." The camera cuts one final time to the closed door of Jesse Ventura's office. Ross says whatever happened inside that room could have enormous implications for the Great American Bash.
