Provide some evidence for your point. Just saying something is common knowledge is meaningless. Humans have believed countless things were common knowledge which turned out to be objectively false. Gimme some statistics. For example, check out the list of causes of death for developed nations versus undeveloped nations. You see a much higher incidence rate of most communicable diseases in poorer nations without Westernized medicine. "But Jingus", you'll say, "the West clearly has higher rates of heart attacks, strokes, and cancer". Which is true. That's because we live long enough to get them. Those largely cause mortality in older people, at ages which most people just never reach in impoverished third-world hellholes. They die of other diseases first, things which aren't nearly as lethal if you've got access to modern medicine. As you can see here and here, life expectancy in in third-world countries is significantly lower than in Western civilization. It may look like America is a tad low on those lists, but that's almost entirely due to just how much we eat. Fattening food is cheaper in the United States than anywhere else in the world, leading to extremely high obesity rates and the inevitable health problems that come with that. It's mostly the quantity, not quality, of stuff we shove into our mouths that makes us die faster. There are other reasons for the life expectancy. Look at people that live to extrodinary years in cultures without diseases like we get here in North American and see how they're doing it. Some medicine is definitely a help in certain situations but a lot of it can be detrimental too. And yes how much junk we eat is a big factor why disease is so prominent. But let me tell you this which maybe the most valuable info you'll ever hear in your life. QUALITY OF FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for your health, recovering from everything, mental functioning and preventing diseases. The manmade cooked bullshit that is put in "normal" food is helping to kill people off while the right organic food will recover you and prevent. I have seen a friend recover and eliminate testicular cancer by doing this. There are tons of people you can talk to about this. People who have switched over and healed their health problems. I myself have seen and observed what quality of food/water can do to one's health. Quality of nutrition is absolutely essential. And once you TRULY are eating well you will find you will not have a quantity problem. Yoiu won't be eating excess food. Part of the reason people eat too much in quantity is because they have to. Jack La Lanne had it mostly right so many years ago. If only more people listened. I myself am far from having a perfect diet but I have seen 3 problems I had already clean up from eating better. And I'm still a young guy who exercised his whole life and never ate too much food. I've had a low body fat percentage every day of my life. Yet, I was hurting myself with the foods I ate. Once again, QUALITY IS ESSENTIALLY VITAL. If you don't feed your body the right quality, it will turn against you and cause you everythign from bad teeth, loss of teeth to sexual problems to less energy to skin problems to diabities to the breaking of the bones whent they shouldn't be. Feed it mercury, aluminum, pesticides, flu shots, vaccines, additives, growth hormone US milk, alcohol, smoke, drugs and everything else and it will get ravaged with all sorts of problems all the ways to disease. 100% true. I look at my friends some younger than me who are genetically blessed in many ways but have acquired diseases and I know a very signifigant part of that is due to quality of food and bad chemicals.

Except that we're not seeing increases in most diseases. It's a New Age conspiracy theory that we're supposedly getting sicker and sicker as a population. The documented statistical fact is that modern Western medicine really works. Compare life expectancy and cause-of-death rates from different societies; in undeveloped or third-world countries, you're much more likely to die younger and much more likely to die of a disease which is completely preventable in a more advanced nation. To put it simply: natural =/= good. The anti-medicine types love to throw the word "unnatural" around like it's an insult. Well, deadly nightshade is natural. A simple vitamin pill is unnatural. Which would you rather ingest? Nowhere in particular, because as you say, it's a very loosely affiliated group with no real hierarchy nor Gospel-like list of strict rules. Individual people basically make up their own interpretation of whatever they think sXe should be. Yet they both do essentially the same thing. I don't see the point in separating opiate painkillers and local aesthetics, because they're basically used for the same purposes, to numb the body's feelings of pain. Jingus, you are misguided some here. I reccomend you do some or perhaps more research on the matter for your own well being. And yes, we are getting sicker and sicker. That's pretty common knowledge and there are certain reasons for that.
-
\ We introduce a wide variety of "unnatural" substances into our body every day, every time we do anything even as simple as taking a sip of water. Drawing an arbitrary line between Good Chemicals and Bad Chemicals has always seemed a bit silly to me. Which is a big part of the reason why we are seeing increases in diseases Often times it's money at the expense of health. There's not much money in doing what truly fixes the body. People aren't willing to either and just don't know or understand. In more circumstances, chemicals are detrimental to one's health.

But there's pain, and thean there's pain. Truest statement of all time. Trust me. But there's something that's even way worse than that. You add that with constant unending pain with NO guarantee that time will ever give relief. The mental turmoil is beyond belief. I can write these words out but untill someone has truly experienced this one can never even come close to understanding. Even myself who went through it and survived can not appreciate how tough it was at this moment because time has removed me some. There's physical pain and than there's physical pain. And than there's constant physical pain with no guanatee of relief ever again. The kind of pain where you "should mercy kill someone"

Tell-tale signs that a guy is past his prime
Resident Evil replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
This is an international board. I assume you mean North American soccer. I love playing it myself. -
A slap is when you take your complete hand and slap your opponent usually done to the face. It's a way more dangerous move than most people realise. A palm strike iIrc is when you take the hard part of your hand right above the wrist and thrust it forwards/outwards hitting your opponent. It's less dangerous to your hand than a punch is but it's still very effective. It's more dangerous than a slap. And for the record, Rick Steiner has pinned Cactus Jack with the Steinerline.
-
The shotei palm thrust is a very good finisher. I've been sold on it ever since the legendary Lyger vs Ohtani match from March of 96. And speaking of Bas Rutten, he single handidly sold me on strikes to the kidneys. Now whenever I watch a wrestling match all I can think of is how lethal blows to the stomach area are.

There are a bunch of wrestlers that are freaks of nature and will. Flair is one of them. -

There is some kind of comic somewhere where it talks about how everything is better when you're 12 years old. Can't seem to find it though. -
Yeah, no true need to drink that piss. RE -- Still hoping Punk turns the entire IWC straight edge:)
-
Less annoying, but stupider. Drinking alcohol doesn't equal getting wasted though. Two fine glass of wine while having diner, a fresh beer in a cool bar or a few glass of champain don't do any harm. People who don't eat cooked food and stick to a truly healthy diet will get wasted on "mere" sips of wine. I mean, I'm even talking about poeple who had built up a big tolerance to alcohol while on a typical North American diet.

The ending of Lyger vs Sasuke is easily one of my best all time wrestling moments ever.
-
I think by that point we had five years of "Liger" matches and finishes to study and recall. Was there another finish that was remotely like that? I'm talking along the lines of the WP-Sasuke finish in the Final. That one wasn't a regular finish of WP's matches, but it certainly was consistent with a lot of finishes we'd seen out of WP in New Japan. John For the record, in case anyone didn't know the finish of the J Cup 94 match was a tribute to the incredible and underrated DK vs Cobra championiship match when DK won the belt. Also, about Sabu. I have heard that he blew spots on purpose before. If he did, that would be a smart move for his persona though reckless in the ring.
-
Yup, wrestling has to be filmed right. To me, wrestling has got to be organic. Throw in some physical and intellectual fighting spirit where the guys are giving it their all and I am a happy wrestling fan.

Wow, I go away for awhile and the board turns into complete chaos. There are quotes on here that just blow my mind. "Now this is the great Demolition/Hart Foundation match. This a Evelventy Gajillion times better than the 90 match" I agree with Vic on somethings and I know Matt D who posts here is a contarian on this as well when compared to the general wrestling fan but the Summerslam 88 match while being strong is not 1/5th of the match from Slam 90. Slam 88 is great but it does not do one thing in it better than Slam 90. I watched them back to back (on very little sleep) for Matt D on DVDVR and just like how I had remembered Slam 90 was way better at creating emotion, the drama was better, the timing was better, the highs and lows and build were better, the brilliant thinking was way better, the innovation was on a different level, the excitement was off the charts and the ending was absolutely epic. There is absolutely no comparison between the two matches. Slam 90 destroys Slam 88 and that's saying something because I like the Slam 88 match a very good deal. Now for some other quick points that have been addressed in this thread Demolition is indeed generally underrated. I always thought there offense was good to pretty good and more than got the job done. I always thought they were smart wrestlers and personally enjoyed a lot of their matches. Their gimmick itself was great, the interviews were full of energy, their ring entrance is among the best ever and their attire worked. I never really thought they were Road Warrior imitations when I grew up watching wrestling though. Which brings me to the Road Warriors. Demoliton was cool but their aura just like everybody else's aura was not on the level of the Road Warriors. The Road Warriors were this mythical team that the magazines pumped up to no end. They were the team that was shown initially to me by VHS by an older friend telling me how incredible they were. I remember watching them on 2 0'clock in the morning destroying a couple of prelimary wrestlers I had never seen wrestlers get destroyed before. The spikes, the interviews, the presence and the offense. Man alive, the offense. I couldn't believe I was seeing these humongous guys do dropkicks, jumping fist drops, flying shoulder tackles and Doomsday devices off the top ropes. They didn't live bad assery. They were bad assery. I just watched these guys the other week over in Japan. Still incredible!! One of my problems with the WWF/WWE is the atmosphere. It was never as gritty as the NWA/WCW or other leagues. It had more lights, less intimidating atmosphere, a bigger ring with softer looking ropes which I always say is bad for wrestling and other things which makes it feel less hardcore. Intense wrestlers are often at a disadvantage because of this. It can be overcome (Benoit the murderer did it especially after he adapted to the bigger ring) but it does hurt people. It hurt Vader's presence presence and it did hurt the Road Warriors as well. Their spikes turned way less intimidating at the time, they lost Ironman, they got a doll, the ring did hurt them some, etc but they were still bad assery enough to make themselves work in the WWF. That says something about them. Even the WWF thought they were so bad ass that they squashed Demolition when they came in. That is incredible when you think about it. I highly reccomend one of the Road Warriors vs Orient Express matches which may be the best "competitive" squash I have ever seen. I voted it for on smarkschoice in the WWF poll but I can't remember the date of it. This was one of the best examples of the Road Warriors being the Road Warriors in the WWF. The Road Warriors also had some incredible matches with Orient Express at Maple Leaf Gardens but I don't know if anyone can see those anymore. I still remember the Orient Express taking spin bumps off of clotheslines on the outside of the ring. The Express were awesome. Steiners ruled and while it's great to see accolades for them here they are being underrated. Their match construction is better than what is being said here but besides that their high end matches are incredible. They also have tremendous charisma with a presence and aura similar to the Road Warriors. Throuigh sheer will, electricity, the most devestating tag team moveset of all time, an excited Jim Ross and the manipulation of the fans' emotions they dominated everyone. You couldn't even buy anyone beating them in WCW. It was mentioned earlier I think by smkelly? correct me if I'm wrong, that the Steiners dominating everywhere was a sign that they were the best. Well, smkelly was right. The reason why the Steiners were able to obliberate WCW, manipulate the fans and win the WCW plus IWGP tiltes AT THE SAME TIME was simply because they really were the best tag team all factors considered. Who else could've done that in such convincing fashion? Nobody, Absolutely nobody and this was the symbol that they were the best. They did it because they got what wrestling was and were able to run with it. Someone might call some other X or Y team better but there is no way they could've done what the Steiners did. What the Steiners did to me was one of the more amazing accomplishments I have seen in wrestling. PG 13 I haven't seen too much of because I wasn't watching the leagues they were wrestling in too much when they were in them unfortunately. I do like what I've seen of them.

[1993-08-03-NJPW-G1 Climax] Hiroshi Hase vs Shinya Hashimoto
Resident Evil replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Austin's personality was indeed changed some before the Mania match. At Survivor Series he was a wrestling machine and the ringmaster. At Mania, he was a brawler who was not versed in submissions. I thnk he even menitions or alludes to this in the prematch Mania interview. So that's another reason why he didn't use the Million Dollar Dream. I remember thinking about how odd that was at the time but told myself "It's WWF and their history rules again"- 79 replies

The Macho Man was one of my favourite wrestlers and personalities of all time. Thank you for the memories Savage. I do not know what happens after one dies but I do know one thing. The madness will live forever in you and in all of us who watched you.

DK vs Bret was one of the first ladder matches of all time and it is the most famous of the first generation of ladder matches before HBK/Razor and HBK/Bret. DK and Bret had excellent chemistry back in the day and we're doing stuff that the North American audience hadn't seen. The crowd heat at the time was electric for these guys which would make the atmosphere even better. After watching all of the DK vs Bret I could find, hearing various people talk about their matches and also hearing a couple people from ALberta mention how great the ladder match was I have no doubt about its quality. Bret and DK several times themselves have talked about the match and how much they loved it both saying it was among their best. And the finish -- It was the exact same as HBK - Razor at Mania except that DK went out to the floor instead of Michaels getting tied up in the ropes. I think the match could have been filmed but who knows if it exists anymore. I have no doubt in my mind with the crowd heat, the ahead of its time factor, a lot of people thinking it would be the first ladder match, the Stampede crowd heat which was electric at the time, Bret and DK's rugged work ethic and their creative wrestling minds that this would be on the list of "Matches to see before you Die" in the gimmick/ladder category. It's something to think and ponder about. That's why I mentioned it. A fav pastime among us wrestling geeks is dreaming about those excellent unearthed matches we may never see.

Comments that don't warrant a thread 2010-2011
Resident Evil replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
This comment is more than worth a thread here. I was thinking recently of words that Samoa Joe wrote about Hashimoto. When I 1st started in Japan my knowledge of Hashimoto was limited albeit somewhat educated. It was only when I began to wrestle across the ring from the man that I truly realized what it meant to be a star. Hashimotos ambiance did not lie in a flashy gimmickry, trend setting re-invention or the intangible coolness, of his musketeer brethren. Hashimoto had foregone the pomp and circumstance of wrestling and simply sought to be the embodiment of an ideal. The ideal that was the founding principle of the dojo that produced him which was derived from the centuries old warrior customs of his culture. Hashimoto embodied Toukon, The Fighting Spirit. Once at a preliminary training session, Hashimoto had quizzed a group of relatively clueless gaijin about the most important aspect of Professional Wrestling. Answers sprung forth pleading a case for "Technique" and "Psychology", but Hashimoto simply pointed at his eyes and said "The Fire". The fire, the burning spirit, the unyielding will, even in the face of insurmountable challenges. With a simple gesture and the most intense stare I had ever seen I understood all these things that I have just listed and nodded in compliance. Hashimoto's popularity was no accident as he represented the very essence of the much vaunted Samurais of old. He was a single ideal, by any means necessary, no questions asked, decisiveness personified. Enter the ring and destroy the opposition that is in front of you. Hakaio In his simplicity you could find his brilliance and the basis for his astounding charisma. .... So, so true, Hashimoto and I come from exactly the same school of thought. The most important thing in all of wresting is the eyes/fire. -
Shawn vs Razor were two excellent wrestling matches involving a ladder gimmick and made sense. Hardys/E&C/Dudleys were stunt shows whose only apparent goal was to fall from high places onto tables. It's masturbatory garbage wrestling. Spectacular, yes, but that was it. TLC III wasn't. There was better story/timing and drama in this than the other matches. It easily eclipsed most other ladder and TLC matches. As a sidenote, this is the match where I have heard that Benoit legit injured his neck badly on the dive to the table outside of the ring which helped lead to neck surgery. Of course, DK vs Bret would be the ladder match to put on a set like this but I can't find footage of it.
-
I don't. NJPW did right in the amount of times they had him against heavies. It was too disheartning to see him lose against the big guys the percentage of times he did. Show him losing any more and it would hurt his credibility too much with the fans.

Exactly, Andre vs Hogan is a smartly laid out match. I have easily watched this over 10 times and every time it compels me just not because of me knowing the stars in the match but in how everyhing is worked. Everything means A LOT and things are done at the right time. Andre even when he was hurt was awesome to watch. We don't agree with the Hart Foundation vs Demos(Slam 90 classic destroys the strong Slam 89 match) but I agree with everything here. Warrior vs Andre from SNME ruled too. I actually went back to rewatch it last month but got distracted by the match where Warrior slams Andre at MSG and Andre does not like it!! I enjoyed that too. I couldn't find the match where Andre pinned the Warrior though. I knew it was on youtube at one point. Speaking of strong Andre match there is one I really enjoyed against the Macho Man but I can't remember the date now. Getting off topic a little, That reminds me Macho had a really strong match against Warrior on one of the arena shows. There are at least a couple of these circulating around with one being better than the other. I remember it was better than Summerslam. Also, besides the WWF advertising for house shows people never knew how often the WWF toured and how much they wrestled. House shows never made news but the Warrior vs Andre series where Warrior was beating him in 30 seconds made news. It was the only time I ever remembered the media picking up a story about WWF house shows. People were really talking about that at the time. It felt like one of those legendary wrestling "myths".

From the very first time I ever watched it back in 89 or so to the present I have always enjoyed Hogan vs Andre from WM III over Steamboat vs the Macho Man (which I also enjoy) from WMIII. I love everything about the WMIII match. It was put together very well. Now Steamboat vs Macho from Maple Leaf Gardens I may have enjoyed more than than Hogan vs Andre but I'd have to watch them back to back. I love them both for different reasons.
