Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker Lawsuit
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling
The lack of money is irrelevant. If someone hands you a stolen diamond necklace, and you don't pay them for it, you still have no legal right to possess that necklace. "I didn't steal it" and "I didn't ask for it" and "I didn't pay for it" and even "I didn't know it was stolen" absolutely do not matter, it's still stolen goods and you have zero right to even hold onto it, let alone pass it along to others. Your analogies have nothing to do w/ the first amendment. Not saying you're not making viable points, but traditionally, courts have always erred on the side of preserving the first amendment at all costs, even in scummy situations like this one. -
Why not go old-school and dress like this?

Am I Missing Something?
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to The Thread Killer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I heard the buzz about New Day as well so I've been firing up the DVR to catch their segments on Raw. I have yet to get through an entire New Day match or segment without attempting to hurl my television out the window in a fit of rage. My God are they awful. Just an embarrassment to all of wrestling. However, I give WWE a pass on New Day because I don't think their target demographic with the act is people like me (cranky, 34-year-old white dudes who miss the days of Tully vs. Magnum shoving a microphone in each other's faces saying "I Quit"). If "the kids" or the younger hipster crowd digs New Day, more power to them. -
Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker Lawsuit

But Hogan did know Bubba was filming. For some reason, the judge did not allow the jury to hear that evidence. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/2774309-Confidential-Declaration-of-Gregg-Thomas-With.html#document/p219 -
Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker Lawsuit
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling
Main lesson in all of this: Never underestimate how much people hate the media, even if they're not entirely sure what "the media" even means and can't fully articulate why they hate it so much. Your organization is in hot water for something? Blame it on unfair media coverage. You're a politician looking to generate the equivalent of cheap heat with potential voters? Call out the media for being bias. You're a coach of a professional sports team that needs extra motivation? Tell your players that the idiotic media is counting them out and watch your team get a little extra fired up. A major ruling with first amendment implications just went against a media company while there were several questionable goings on from the judge and others during the trial? Ah, fuck it. It's just a sleazebag media outlet. They got what they had coming. In world of public perception in the year 2016, just about anything else > the media. -
Just submitted both a singles and tag ballot. I'm ready for the mocking and ridiculing to begin.
-
I'm going to be submitting both a singles and tag in the next week or so. FWIW the tag ballot was a breeze to put together. It'd be nice to see mor tag ballots submitted.

Well when Ambrose is competing with Dolph Ziggler for weakest looking offense in the WWE that's kind of the only option they have. It's not like he can go out and have a match like Reigns/Lesnar last year where it looked like two dudes really beating the shit out of each other. Everything Ambrose does looks super soft. Instead of a competitive match, I would much rather see Lesnar beat the shit out of Ambrose for 20 minutes like he did with Cena at SummerSlam a few years back.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Ric Flair vs Randy Savage
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Loss's topic in April 1992
I don't think the suits were worried about Liz interfering. I think they were trying to keep her away for her own safety, both because of what Flair might do to her and the potential embarrassment that could come if the "centerfold" is shown on the big screen. -
It's on Deadspin. Seemed like Robinson didn't catch that Neville was hurt and stopped the count before hitting 3 after Jericho's quick cover. Jericho got up, shoved Robinson and started cussing him out. At first I just thought it was Jericho's way of getting DQ'd to end the match after Robinson didn't notice the injury, but you can hear Jericho yelling "He's hurt," so it was probably a shoot.

This is America, it'll take us another 50 years before everyone has access to high enough Internet speeds to access the WWE Network. I am going to find a relative's email address so I can get another free month of the network and watch Mania. I want to see if the 100,000 people watching wrestling in the Jerry Dome can be as indifferent, defeated, dejected and silent as they are when the Cowboys lose.

I watched all of the NWA in 1989 a few years back and one of my biggest takeaways was that Rick Steiner is fucking awesome. He made Mike Rotunda look good -- like, really good. He's a better mat wrestler than you think. He was super over and could keep up the loud pops he'd generate throughout an entire match. And that's before you factor in any of the work he did as part of the Steiner Brothers. I didn't think he'd make my top 100, but when I whittled everything down, there he was in the top 100. Can't guarantee he'll stay there by the time I submit, but he's there now and not moving despite some of my efforts to try and bump him down.

What did you learn about your fandom from GWE?
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Grimmas's topic in 2016
I learned that I'm still pretty much a cave man when it comes to watching wrestling. I enjoy reading the in-depth posts breaking down a match from guys like Matt and others. I also love diving into Parv's BIGLAV system. But when I watch wrestling, no matter how hard I try, my brain turns off and I just ask myself: Did I like, love, dislike or hate what I just saw? -
I thought I'd be the only one w/ Rick Steiner on my list, but turns out Parv's BIGLAV system agrees that Rick Steiner is definitely one of the 100 greatest wrestlers of all time. That's another cool part of this project: Two people who probably compiled their top 100 in completely different ways can still reach a similar conclusion on someone like Rick Steiner.

I really really do hate watching Inoki, like he fucking sucks, but can anyone really look in the mirror and say he wasn't "great"? This is a serious question at the heart of this. I would call Inoki important, not great.

I'm having the same issue w/ Dusty Rhodes that Dylan is having w/ Jumbo. As of now, I'm not ranking Dusty, but that changes every other hour or so.
-
This. People have put in a lot of time making this project happen. I'm guessing most of these people will have no problem taking some extra time with the results to break them out into separate lists. I know I'd be interested in seeing a top 100 made only using ballots from voters who regularly host podcasts on PWO-PTBN, or a top 100 made up of ballots using only the top 20 percent of posters in the GWE forum. Things like that.....

[1992-03-21-USWA-TV] Jimmy Valiant and Brian Christopher

Jimmy Valiant struts out, sexually assaults half the people in the studio, then gets beat up. Memphis rasslin'!- 12 replies

Minneapolis just got jobbed out of hosting Wrestlemania in 2017. Which means Roman will miss his opportunity to run through the crowd and eat a Jucy Lucy, truly the best burger in the nation. End of debate.

I could be totally off base, but I don't get the sense that a lot of people truly feel Funk is a No. 1 candidate. I think there are a lot of people who (rightfully) consider him a top 10 lock. But when it comes to putting Funk on top of the ballot, I don't think many people are going to pull the trigger and actually rank him No. 1. I feel like when it comes time to lock in ratings, people will look at Funk and say, "Man, I love Terry Funk. He's an all-time great. But I can't rank him No. 1 above (insert name of more "serious" worker)." Then again, when you're virtually a lock for the top 10, that automatically makes you a No. 1 candidate in a project like this.
-
Nope. No betting. Just some dumb guy putting up a small pot to encourage participation I agree on keeping ballots to ourselves until after voting. Not because of my silly pool. But I can see being influenced by other people's ballots while trying to finalize my own.
-
I'll kick things off with my sure-to-be-horribly-wrong predictions: 1. Hansen 2. Kawada 3. Flair 4. Misawa 5. Tsuruta 6. Terry Funk 7. Tenryu 8. Kenta Kobashi 9. Rey Mysterio 10. Bockwinkel DiBiase finish: 33rd. The toughest rank for me was Jumbo. A lot of people still seem to be high on him, but there's also a lot of chatter that he's going to drop significantly from his finish in the Smarks Choice poll. I also wasn't sure about Jerry Lawler. There's been a lot of love for him lately, but enough love to vault him into the top 10? I don't think so, but we'll see.......

Let's get our own version of a March Madness pool going by predicting the top 10 of the GWE poll. Remember: this thread is for predicting the top 10, not revealing our own top 10 or making cases about who we personally think should be in the top 10. What fun is a pool without a prize? I've got $10 for the person who guesses the top 10, in order. The only caveat is you have to spend it on something wrestling-related. I don't want my money supporting your porn or weed addiction, only your wrestling addiction. In addition to your top 10, include a guess on where you think Ted DiBiase will finish. We'll use whoever guesses closest to DiBiase's actual finishing slot to break any ties. If there's still a tie after using the DiBiase guess, we'll hold a steel cage match to determine the winner. Good luck!
-
Are ballots going to be viewed publicly as soon as they're submitted? If not, I was going to start a "PWO March Madness" thread for people to try and predict the top 10. But if we're going to be able to see everyone's ballots as they're submitted, that probably won't work. Not a big deal either way. Just wondering.

I currently have Liger at No. 4 and I don't see any way he falls out of my top 5. I don't know if I'd say there's been a backlash against Liger recently -- that's probably too strong of a word. But I am surprised he's not talked about more as a lock for the top 10.
